  1. Does that mean all three of us have to claim to eachother before Day One on IRC?
  2. I love that we're going into such in depth analysis here. Post game dissection, fun! OK, I have a few things to respond to, but I'm at work, on IE7 (or whatever) which doesn't allow multiquote. So, I'll post more later about the great talk we're having here. I think this is why I wrote Bob doesn't know how to play for the Town. The weird way he "defended" himself in IMHOTEP by trying to make it look like Cornelius had made up the PM and here where he votes for the person who he was previously defending, or at least getting more discussion going on. I don't think he's Scum, but I'll vote for him. It's just an odd move and can really lead the Town to doubt your motives and maybe even just assume you're Scum in the end. But, you obviously did the right thing afterwards by approaching people in private and were able to do what you needed to, to avoid the lynch. So, perhaps I'm being too harsh in my post-game feedback, but I would encourage you to step it up, regardless. I bet you could be a pretty good strategist at this point. We know you have the drive as we saw at the end of Yakuza. I forgot to mention that I was impressed with how you helped lead the Town with Shadows in the first couple of days. Placing the first vote on Day One and getting the lynch going based on his accusations was a good way to form a strong Town alliance and move forward working together. You put yourself out in front when it came to following through with accusations and that helped support Shadows and encouraged the Town to have more than just one person to trust and potentially have conversations with behind the scenes. Too bad it didn't exactly happen that way after Shadows was killed. I think that's one thing the Town players in this game might not be used to. Three real-time days is a ton of time and when I'm working on a game, I get a lot done in that time. I dig and dig behind the scenes, but that's just my style. I think that may have been what was lacking for the Town after Shadows died was an appropriately competitive psycho with the time on their hands to get things going. It is really hard with this concept, I know. I was out of my mind trying to figure out exactly how to do it with IMHOTEP, needing to protect certain people and not reveal anything at all to the Scum (or inadvertently everything as it turned out ) but we found a way to make it work and it was by being really active. And that didn't make for lack of day time activity either. No play-writers in this game. But, I did like that the day threads are very readable for other people, not littered with too much nonsense, and the Town was almost there. I don't think it was time. In my experience, you just need to push a little harder. Perhaps I should do the x-shots differently next time. Find a way to limit them, but not make the Town feel they need to hoard them. Odd nights vs. even nights or something?
  3. Didn't you read The Forest after you were voted out and resurrected and voted out again? I thought it would be harder for the Scum considering you all know each other so well. It was cool watching you all play together, though. I'd like to mix noobs into the next one I host. More complicated? Is that even possible??
  4. Oh, why not?? I think you would like it. However, I have no idea what this new way Night Actions are presented. Who said that? And nobody has answered what reference I supposedly made to Jedi Temple (which I'm not reading )
  5. Oh, I forgot to mention, this game was loosely based on Assassin in the Palace. The point of Assassin in the Palace is their is a King and one assassin. The rest of the players are all guards and they all know who the King is. Cool concept. Very cool, but I made it more Mafia-ey. I wanted to have the usual roles and some more royal family, so it became more of a rip-off of IMHOTEP. But I can see how you would think the Scum not knowing who they are would be a good balance. I did that with Baritones 2, none of the Scum knew who the other Scum were and it was ... just weird. I'm not sure that'd be possible for the assassins to not have known each other, but it would've been interesting. The concept would've worked. Maybe if there were more people, I could put 2 or 3 killers in it? Anyway, I have a concept for a sequel and I love my idea. But we'll see if it ever comes to fruition. I'll take all advice into consideration and try to make a more gentle balance. Hmmmmm.... I love that. He was so cautious but he played everything right. He sought you out because he would as a Townie and made a claim before someone came looking for him. Reminded me of Foog in IMHOTEP. I know both. Rick has been killed Night One in three games now. And now that he successfully won as a Serial Killer in Baritones 3, people really focus on him on Night One. Did you read IMHOTEP? I think you'd really love it. You were sorely missed in that game. Best EB Mafia game EVER! Oh come on, we're all friends. Feedback!! So did I. Old times... I would've loved to see CMP as a ghost vigilante! Oh, my heart aches for it. But, alas, it didn't happen. I watched your choice for Night Kill every night and was so proud of you guys for making good choices and being successful in all of them, but I wanted to see some explosions and ghosts.
  6. Did you see my note, though, about the Town turning on you? Everyone's joking, everyone's joking, Pie jokes, all jokes stop!! Now let's accuse Pie. Lynch him! Lynch him! I liked your joke and I thought it was somewhat insulting to think that you would be that obvious as Scum as to ponder out loud if you could find the real women to kill the queen and the bodyguard. Well, it got activity going either way. Yes, your lynch would have been beneficial and you could've used your kill whenever you wanted so you could observe and decide who was Scummy. Glad you had fun and learned either way.
  7. Night One Town Scum Notes: Bob doesn't seem to know how to play for the team. (I don't remember why I wrote this) If Charles would’ve been lynched, it would’ve been much better for the Town. Charles is the vigilante, but only in death. Who’s hosting this game? Why is Bob the one who everyone turned off the joking and turned on? Past games? Cliques? Strategies? First voted off the island on All-Star Survivor? What’s up? Day One, Scum PM. Rick suggests that Draggy, Zepher and JimButcher are the royal family. And he’s right. Holy shit, is Zepher sending anagrams that he’s the king? A gun in a pocket (Answer: No, but it is an anagram for "Apace unto King." and some other things. ) Night Two Town Scum Notes: Oh boy, I’m going to give Shadows a bunch of fake deaths in the mid-day break. This is exciting. It’s fun to see Rick in his first Scum role. Shadows can be so infuriating. I hope to see Rick keep his cool and plant some doubt with the rest of the Royal Court. I wonder if it will be a quick conviction. I hope not. The Scum is playing it smart, being cautious with their role claims. It’s interesting to see MetroiD trusting Cecilie while Cornelius ponders claiming protector to Shadows. If Cecilie talks to MetroiD just a little more, she’ll find out he’s the protector. It’s a shame the Scum was blocked on their first night. They had targeted the King. Shadows can be infuriating. What a prick. Cecilie suggest killing Bob. That would be really bad for the Scum team. They’re talking about killing Draggy or MetroiD, leaning towards Draggy. That would be the Queen. I wonder if getting Draggy right would lead them back to Zepher. Draggy is not likely to be protected. We’ll see for sure. If they’re smart, Cornelius will block Shadows and Pandora will block MetroiD. The Town only has a two-shot blocker and I’m not sure he’s confident enough to use his action quite yet. The conversion sets the Scum team ahead but has left them a day behind as well. Rick figures out that the persistent roles are not the Royal Family as they coincide with the jobs of the alter egos. That’s where the Scum have the balance of not having their role cop. Will they figure out the Jester is the bomb/PGO, though? Or that the King is the Inventor? Probably not. And this really only gets Shadows and MetroiD off their lists as they are the only two with persistent Night Actions. What a fun game! I think it does have a nice balance. Night Three Town Scum Notes: Town leaders consistently have the problem of thinking that if someone hasn’t claimed to them, they are scared little Scummies. I made the mistake in IMHOTEP, def made it in Yakuza and Shadows makes it here. Leaving Shadows and Metroid out of the night pics could’ve been a mistake on my part. The Scum are certainly analyzing it and getting a great benefit from it. I did do it because they were blocked. I should mix it up tonight so they don’t get comfortable. They’re right in analyzing the mechanics and the egos having a meaning, but they’re reading so much into it they’re finding help where I never intended it. I worded that weird. Most of the night pictures are totally for fun...and to megabluck with the players. Hopefully, they've learned to mostly ignore me at this point. Why is everyone always so suspicious of Pandora? Once again, they’re attributing her Town actions to being Scum… Night Four Town Zepher stays in CallMePie stays in Scum Notes: I stopped taking notes. Sorry. But, I think all of my thoughts on this day have been rolled into the post-game discussion. Night Five Cecilie kills Bob CorneliusMurdock blocks Bob Pandora blocks CallMePieOrDie CallMePieOrDie protects Bob
  8. While it does seem like nobody was talking, it seems a lot like people were kind of touching base with each other. Charles tried to protect Bess and Zerard gave Charles an invention, so their instincts were right, they just didn't get far enough. I think there was time to make those connections, but the concept may have seemed a little daunting.
  9. The Scum could cause a tie vote without winning, but they would've won if they outnumbered you. The game could win in a draw, which would really suck. I suppose if there was one Scum left and one Royal Family, the night phase would end with the Scum killing whatever royal family was left. Unless the vengeful spirit killed the scum at the same time, which would give the Scum a win, essentially. Unless the remaining Royal family could block the kill, but I think the remaining Scum would have a block and a kill. I guess the question is do I allow the first to a tie to win, which I don't really like or do I make a tie a draw and we continue to the next day? You guys still could've won it. You being lynched go it to a point where there was really almost no turning back. For the Town to win at that point there would've had to have been a tie vote and then Bob would've had to been triggered at night. No, you couldn't block the PGO. But, the day you were lynched it was still 4 Town : 3 Scum, so had you been around to defend yourself you may have been able to turn it back around or at least convince Bob and Pie that it was Pandora who was lying and not make it possible for Zepher to be lynched on Day Five. I suppose there we could blame the site outage for the game extension, which allowed just enough time for the votes to be overturned before you could notice.
  10. I'm glad you are open to the feedback. OK, so not every game, but I've heard it from you. I was very happy with your stand at the end of IMHOTEP as well. And you did find the right people to trust in Baritones III. Sorry that I over-simplified. The only retraction I would have to my feedback was that you were given a hard time on Day One and that would be hard to come back from. Why can everyone joke but CallMePie and then why is Bob drawn and quartered for pointing out that Charles was joking. This is in my notes, which I still intend to post, but why was the fun suddenly crashed by one simple (and slightly obvious, because why would Scum so blatantly search for Royal Family, literally by checking under everyone's undies? ) joke? And then, yes, MetroiD, in all of his odd flailiness, did keep accusing you. I guess this advice would work for you or Pie, don't take first day accusations personally. Just keep playing the game. Pie seemed to be taken off his idea to play aggressively because he was almost lynched and you were put off of aligning with MetroiD because he kept trying to lynch you. What else could you do at that point? But my point is, you can keep trying to form alliances and strategize even if another player or a good number of players are giving you a hard time. Look at MetroiD. He was getting lynched and he was still trying to get all of his info out there and get something started. But, like you said, it was more the loss of Shadows than being the target of MetroiD's lynch rope and so my advice may have little bearing on your actual game. My advice is what it is so please take it with a grain of salt if it doesn't apply. I'm always more than happy to have you in my games. I'm glad to hear you say you want to step things up.
  11. This is a really good point and one I kind of knew, but the idea in my head trumped logical thought at the time. This is exactly what Pandora said she was thinking with it. Use it early to gain the advantage either way. I wish the Town would've used their x-shots in a similar way. I was surprised some people were trying to spread them out towards the end of the game instead of using them early and often to gain as much knowledge as they could. When the investigator was killed I did add a shot to the inventor role and added the invention of an orb that could be used to investigate. Zepher never used that third shot and opted to stay home on Night Four instead. That was a real surprise to me. What was the point in waiting, I wondered... I think Pandora's role balanced only itself but tipped the game in that swingy way you're referencing. It's impossible to keep the balance day to day. The balance swinging fully to one side is what a win is, after all. So, as a host, you'll see that swing and have to remind yourself what you've put in place to potentially balance that. The three officers balanced on their own. One was pro-Town, one was anti-town, one could be bumble into one way or the other. It's aggravating for the host, too. You don't want to see your players make a mistake like that, but the Scum was definitely doing their job. I really think the Town let the convictiction run away with them. They could've stopped it at a tie, or convicted someone else, to test the theories a different way. To me, it did seem rather wreckless for the Town to jump on the JimB bandwagon. I was really hoping the Scum (sorry, Scum) would lose another member that day. As a host, I really like the balance to be visible. But, I hope this shows that it was the Scum doing their job and not any sort of imbalance that caused the Town loss. An investigator and protector working together would've been a ridiculously powerful tool for the Scum to be up against. For proof of that, see Isla Paradisa. The Queen never did get to use her watcher action and the inventor never handed out a magnifying glass to watch with. A watcher really would've helped the Town in this situation. The what now? I don't remember referencing that. I referenced Empire...
  12. Well, I only say three because Town should've thought there were 2 Scum left and the level of play is higher than Mafia School, so that (potentially) one Townie should fight the Scum if they're relaying the info incorrectly. With Bedtime Story, there probably wasn't enough experience or maybe just pariticipation level for your protection measurement to pay off. Luck of the draw. I don't say it's fool proof, but you do all you can.
  13. Yes, I don't think it would've worked as well with some other because of how well you respected that boundary. Thanks for that.
  14. Hey yeah, you also told me by PM that you tried the same thing in Imperial Soldiers Mafia.
  15. I can see that. For one thing, I wanted Rick to get the experience since his time was cut short. Secondly, the Scum team was pretty strong to begin with because they are all like-minded. There wasn't much Rick added that they couldn't have come up with on their own, no offense Rick. But, I can see it being a disadvantage to the Town, so I will re-consider it in the future. The biggest problem here was not that Rick was working with them though. If he was masterminding something that was burying the Town, I think I would've asked him to step back. Rick understood the responsibility of playing along after death and did a good job finding that balance, I think. The biggest problem was the interaction between you and Shadows and then the loss of an organized leader. That's totally the post I was expecting from you! Stupid sleep! You seem to have idenitfied the problem without connecting the pieces for yourself. The Town couldn't go off of "Shadows said she was Scum, just because" since you had provided so much evidence as to why MetroiD was Scum. It was too easy for Pandora to ask for the logic of "Why am I Scum if MetroiD isn't?" There was no logical line to follow. Everyone followed your logic that MetroiD was Scum and that didn't turn out to be correct, so following the word of you again, after you were dead, just wasn't strong enough here. That whole thing shot the Town in the foot. You lynched a townie, who posthumously shattered your credibility. So, I do agree that the conversion was a bit much for balance. I still think this game was balanced, even with the conversion. It wasn't meant to be a standard conversion. The Scum couldn't choose someone to convert and they didn't know it was possible. It was meant as a deterrent for Pandora to be cautious about her role. And it's a mini-mason Action, it has to have a balance in it. If it's not used right, it hurts the Town. If it's used right, it really helps the Town. Pandora said to me by PM she didn't think it was possible to use it the way I intended it so she just used it to investigate Rick, basically, and inadvertently converted herself. So I would never include a role like that again in this small of a setup. I should've just used Lovers, like I usually do. You know you trust each other, but you die together. Let's not forget that had Pandora not converted herself, the Scum would've killed the King on the first night. So, even though the conversion did take place, I think the conflict between you and MetroiD and the subsequent loss of both of you on the same night screwed the Town. I used the basic format of Town with a investigator and protector vs. Scum with a kill and a block. That's a basic Mafia setup and those were the roles that were consistent, not x-shots. You and MetroiD could've steam(punk)-rolled (Thanks, Foog! ) the game if you'd gotten together and investigated all of your suspicions under his protection. But, we all know what happened there. Oops. Fixed. ...and the last thing he did was lead the conviction of the Townie protector. I know. I was thinking, "Look at his profile! He didn't even login! Didn't defend himself... :hmpf:" But again, the Scum did a good job of leading "Well, he didn't argue the case so I thought we had it right." And then the lemmings just followed. You had also sent them after the wrong person, don't forget (I've said it three times in one post, so how can you at this point? ) but I see how you would not be able to trust anyone at that point. If I were you, and thank God I'm not, I would've sent all my suspicions with backup to three people. If you can't trust one, you can hope you trust 1 out of three. You wouldn't have been giving any Royal Family away and they would've had solid leads from their leader's mind to work from. If one or more of them were Scum, the innocent in the group, assuming there was one, would hold the others accountable. When you don't have protection setup and you're the clear leader of the Town and the biggest threat to the Scum, you have to make sure you're covered.
  16. Go ahead and call it "skill".
  17. Yes, but every time Cornelius posted something I thought, "Damn, he's got Pie and Bob right where they want them."
  18. I felt that way too. It felt less like "All-stars" and more like "College reunion."
  19. She made that up. Nobody gave her an invention.
  20. Role PMs and Player Feedback have been added to the first post. Night Actions results and Day thread notes will follow shortly. Some time soon ...
  21. Yes, you! Your lies were hilarious and brilliant, but unfortunately confused the Town as much as the Scum, I think. I believe Fugazi thought he was the actual investigator you made up. Or there's some other explanation to the cryptic Night Action I got from Foog. Anyway, more on all of that later. I have to go to bed now.
  22. All are welcome to comment in this thread! As the sun set on the fifth day of the ordeal on the HMS Brutal, Zerard Wolfe (Zepher) is revealed as King Finnerty D. Colsh. For a split second, the remaining members of the Royal Court's hearts sink as they realize that all is lost. Cuthber Neal Memlow runs up at the last second and grabs the King's crown, as King Colsh disappears out of sight below the flying ship. "Ha ha, jerks!" Cuthber Neal Memlow / Kerkong (CorneliusMurdock) laughs as the sun disappears below the horizon, "Now I'm the King! And I knew exactly where my pants were this whole time!" "You Scumbag!" Clemence Blanchfield cries as she runs forward. "Why do you get to be King?" Clemence Blanchfield / Eregor (Cecilie) cries, "I want to be the new King!" Polly Altamont / Officer Bumble (Pandora), Bess Bulton / Silas Gil Large the Jester (Bob) and Charles Pleasance / Chief Grumble (CallMePieOrDie) watch helplessly as their former King's crown is argued over. "You!" Silas cries, "Our King knew you were the Kensmy Assassins! He was so wise. He was onto the two of you!" "The King we just helped lynch?" Officer Bumble asked. "Yeah, that's the one." Silas admitted sadly. "Now, it's your turn, funny man!" Eregor laughs as he lunges towards the jester with his knife. "Hold it right there!" Chief Grumble says as he steps in the way of the attack, "You can't harm him! I've got a lock." "Oh yeah?" Eregor says, "Um ... and?" "Well," Chief Grumble says, "Well, ... um ... you see if I put this lock on Silas's door, you can't get in to hurt him." "OK, great." Eregor says, "But, is he in his quarters right now?" "Enough of this," Officer Bumble says as he covers the Chief with a bwankie, "Sorry, Chief, but I won't let you use that useless lock to protect the jester!" "Hey!" Silas cries, "You're supposed to be on our side!" "Well..." Officer Bumble begins, "Let's have a little flashback, shall we?" Back on Night One: "Hey Eregor," Kerkong says, "Did you kill Zerard Wolfe?" "Um...no," Eregor answers, "I...um...ran into someone on the way..." "Wha?" Kerkong asks. "You guys aren't going to believe this," Eregor rolls his eyes. "Oh hi guys," says Officer Bumble, "Have you guys seen Ruben Castleton? I thought I saw him go this way. You see I have this cool action. I can switch my character with someone else's in order to hide the royal family from the Scum. Neat, huh? I have to be careful though, because if I try to switch with a Kensmy Assassin, I get converted. We wouldn't want that to happen. Ha! So where did Ruben go?" Silence ensues as the gears inside Officer Bumble's head turn. "Aw, nuts!" Officer Bumble cries. "Well, that's just great," Silas says, "I wasn't even paying attention on Days 1 through 4, so I had no idea that happened! But what you didn't count on, Scummy Eregor jerk-face, was that I am the Paranoid Horn Owner! Ha ha! That's right! Anybody who tries to kill me gets a face full of explosives from my funny horn!" Kerkong steps forward and wraps the jester in a chain. "Pffft!" The jester laughs, "My action isn't blockable by chain, stupid! I can still honk my horn. The second honk is the explosion! Ready?" Honk! ... Bffft! Eregor uses a fresh-baked muffin to clog the bell of the horn. "Looks like it's blockable by pastry," Eregor laughs. Kaboom! "Fireworks for our celebration!" Kerkong laughs. "I love fireworks." Officer Bumble says. "And now it's your turn, Chief Grumble," Kerkong says as he throws the Chief to his knees, "We knew you weren't the King!" "How would you have known that?" "Oh, Chief Bumble told us," Eregor laughs, "I'll tell you all about it in a little flashback." On Night Four: ...What he doesn't notice is Kerkong, sneaking up behind him and grabbing the parachute right before he jumps. Officer Dumble looks for his rip-cord but can't find it. "But I'm not Royal Family!" Officer Dumble shouts as Kerkong and Eregor watch him fall to his death, "And neither is Charles Pleasance!" "Did he really just say that?" Laughs Eregor. "I guess that's why they call him Dumble!" Kerkong joins in on the laughter. "Anyway, catch you later Grumble!" Eregor says as he slits the Chief's throat. As the moon comes out from behind a cloud, the survivors take a moment to appreciate their win. "Gee, I wonder why they call him Grumble." Officer Bumble says. "Mwaha!" The ghost of Chief Grumble laughs, "I'm back! For I am the vengeful spirit and once I'm murdered I can come back and seek vengeance on the one who killed me! Mwahayar yar yar Har Har!" "Enough of this shit!" Barag says as he turns on his special spiritual vacuum cleaner. "Hey wait!" The ghost of Chief Grumble cries, "Not yet! I haven't killed anyone... Nooooooooooo!" "Hey guys, I'm back!" Barag says as he tosses the vacuum over the side of the ship. "How is that possible?" Kerkong asks, "We saw you dropped over the side of the ship!" "Do you doubt my power?" Lord Hildebrand Weaselton bellows as he appears. "Um...no." The others answer. "Oh, well OK then." Lord Weaselton says, "I have brought Barag back from death to join in the celebration of the overthrow of that treacherous pig, King Finnerty D. Colsh." "Hooray." Everyone responds. "Let's get you out of those goofy casino costumes too!" Lord Hildebrand Weaselton proclaims as he waves his wand. Congratulations to Officer Bumble (Pandora) traitor, Kerkong (CorneliusMurdock) Kensmy Assassin, Barag (Rick) Kensmy Assassin and Eregor (Cecilie) Kensmy Assasin on winning Steampunk Mafia! Lady Eleanor Quin Fry appears and shakes her head at Lord Weaselton. "All of this bloodshed over our divorce, you misguided soul." Lady Eleanor clicks her tongue. "Oh shove it, bitch," Lord Weaselton answers, "They got what was coming to them. There's no hope for any of their people now! No hope!" "No," Lady Eleanor answers, "There is another..." "Mom? Dad?" Princess Raulyn Isabella Colsh says, "Nathaniel? Where'd everybody go? Winners - Scum / Kensmy Assassins / Traitor Clemence Blanchfield, / Eregor assumed by Cecilie Cuthber Neal Memlow, / Kerkong assumed by Cornelius Murdock Polly Altamont, / Officer Bumble assumed by Pandora Ruben Castleton, / Barag assumed by Rick, convicted on Day Two. It's been a very long day for me so role PMs, player analysis and Night Actions will be posted tomorrow. Thanks for a great game everybody! I hope you all had fun. Sorry it didn't work out Town, but I think it was just a case of never getting organized ... and that pesky traitor. Hint: when there isn't a night kill and the brown frog shows up in the morning, that's Hinck-host-speak for conversion. Why did nobody decipher the frog? Anyway, love you all. Fascinating and weird game, but a true pleasure to host all of you. I had a blast, so thank you all for participating. ____________________ "We've been rowing for days and we haven't seen land." Prince Nathaniel Kienan Colsh whines. "Silence, son!" King Finnerty D. Colsh admonishes his son, "Whining is not becoming of a valiant and brave Prince who blocked a traitor one night during the battle of the HMS Brutal." "We know," Meahon Doughal says, "It was just a couple days ago and you keep telling the story!" "No complaining!" Shouts the King, "We're lucky to be alive." "How come we're all back to normal," Officer Dumble asks, "yet Lady Lotus Chen is still Meahon Doughal?" "Lady Chen doesn't like to row." Meahon answers. ____________________ Role PMs and Character Feedback: Passive Action: A bit contrived, but since this is one of the only way for the Town to kill Scum, the Bicycle Thief was meant to be a Bomb / Paranoid Gun Owner. Bomb on conviction (that would only take the first Scum that voted for him) and PGO upon night kill. If there would have been a tie vote on Night Five and the Scum would've targeted Bob, which they did, the numbers would've been Town: 3, Scum: 2 on Day Six. Player Feedback: Bob Bob Bob. May I hand out some tough love and say that I've heard you complain about your own performance after every game in recent memory? So... what have you done to try and improve that? I think it's one thing if you're visibly trying but quotes like this: make me think that you aren't even paying attention. Here's my honest advice for you: next time you play a game, take notes. Just pay close attention to everything that's said and write it down and keep checking and adding to your notes. Don't skim the day threads. I'd be really disappointed to hear that you skimmed these day threads which were probably the shortest of any Mafia game I've seen on EB. The game wasn't lost until everyone jumped on the Zepher bandwagon and your reason for voting for Zepher was a very disappointing "this is the way the tide is turning." The votes is a powerful tool and should not be placed just because a bandwagon has formed. And why were you asking for clarification about your role in character in thread? When I realized that you were actually confused about your "job" I wondered why you wouldn't just PM me first instead of going on about it in the game thread? You did PM me about it, but not until you had gone on about it in thread. I wish I had nicer feedback for you, but I really think it's time you stepped up your game. Passive Action: Vengeful Spirit. It practically tells you you're the vengeful spirit, so I'm surprised you didn't take more risks and try to rally the Town. I have a limited perspective for the Town's actions behind the scenes, so take that with a grain of salt. Player Feedback: As I mentioned above, I was disappointed to not see you play with a little more balls considering your role. Maybe you were behind the scenes, maybe you didn't deduce that you were the vengeful spirit. You were the town's only chance at getting a vigilante. You would've been given a one-shot kill after your death on any given night through the rest of the game after your death or lynch. Weird that it was so close between you and Bob on the first day and then never became a threat to lynch or kill either one of you. The Town seemed to have the right idea in Night Actions. Zepher made you a lock and you used it to protect Bob, but there was no other indication that you guys were working together. I'm interested to hear what happened behind the scenes. Otherwise I don't have much of an opinion of your game or how to improve. I hope what you were doing behind the scenes was amazing. What was this clue you hadn't thought of that made you unvote Pandora on Day Five. That confused me. Player Feedback: Awesome job on your first time as Scum! You sailed through to the end, even though it was somewhat transparent towards the end. I think you've been given some good advice by your Scum-mates about playing your cards a little too soon. Going after Zepher about the revealing theory and telling Pandora you understood why she didn't come forward sooner because it would "seem Scummy" rather than "potentially hurt the Town" were things I noticed, but what you did worked. You're one to be weary of in the future, especially since you're likely to take the feedback and work on it. You may become a super stealthy Scum next time. You're in a good position to be Scum, just like your whole team. You have a tendency to be a bit quieter as Town than others, play somewhat towards the middle and very cautious behind the scenes. All four of you are like that and made for a really dangerous Scum team here. Keeping up that Town game will also improve your chances at playing Scum next time. Player Feedback: Ditto everything I said for Cecilie, except you had a good portion of the vets unaware of your Scum status. I'm glad I wasn't playing against you your first time as Scum. I predict I would be Jesus all over again. I'm so used to trusting you. But, at the same time, you do play a good middle ground game and always cause a bit of wariness. But you're not likely to be first on people's investigation list and get through on the social game behind the scenes. So, when you appear seldomly in thread but say things that are logical and pertinent, it seems exactly like your Town game. You were the first Scum name I drew and I felt really excited for you in your first Mafia Scum role. Then I pulled Rick and Cecilie and felt bad for the Town. Granted, all three of you were first-time non-converted Scum, but you're smart players and always put a lot of thought in. An active Scum is a good match for an active Town...and a death warrant for a disorganized Town. Player Feedback: Poo. You barely got to play. You joined the game late. I had a noob in your spot which was originally Cecilie's. For the first time ever, I ignored the cups and made a conscious decision to put a certain player in a certain role. You were originally Eregor and Cecilie was the queen. In a game this size, I didn't want to put you and Shadows opposite each other, especially where he was the (non potato-kicking) investigator. However, it turns out I shouldn't have put Pandora and Rick on opposite sides either, but more on that in a bit. Strange that Rick had you pegged from the beginning. I think middle-ground is usually your game, but for some reason he said he thought the Royal Family were "Zepher, JimButcher and Dragonator" after Day One. I thought you played well. Perhaps this role should be a two-shot in the future? I based it off of basic games from mafiawiki for balance. What did you think? I'm interested to hear your opinion on balance. Passive Action: One-shot, at death, role cop ... for the Scum. When killed, one other non-royal family member is chosen at random to be revealed to the Scum. Sucky role. Player Feedback: You were killed because you were most likely to start piecing things together. As you cautiously started sending out feelers after Shadows's death, I think you revealed to Pandora that Shadows hadn't left any info with anyone and nobody had done anything to rally the troops without him. Being seen as the biggest threat is a big testament to your Mafia career. Too bad your sucky action narrowed the field for the Scum. Don't worry, they still thought Bob was the King. Anyway, thanks for the fun Night Action requests and wish you would've had more to work with. It would've been nice to see this Scum team up against a formidable foe, such as yourself, towards the end. Player Feedback: I thought you played really well. I'm not used to seeing you play so aggressive and you went after Pandora pretty hard. I'm sorry the conviction turned on you after you had logged off for the day. It really was a long time between you're being convicted and the day ending, but I did notice you hadn't logged in. In Pandora's defense, she was playing the tactic of telling her story behind the scenes and seeing if she couldn't get another player to do the dirty work for her. She contacted Foog, but his connection went out as he was trying to type his response. I don't think Pandora timed it that way on purpose, it was just an unfortunate internet connection mishap. Her tactic there was actually quite brilliant. Instead of arguing tooth and nail, she played very calm and subtle. Slow and steady won the race, but it left you without being able to defend yourself. I really would've liked to have seen what would've happened had you been able to answer to the overturn. Nice work until then. I think your aggression had thrown the Scum off your trail for being Royal Family. You were in a good position until you got lynched. Not sure why Rick had you pegged on Day One, but I thought you played very well for this concept. Player Feedback: Oh, what the hell was this? The half of the Town that Shadows didn't confuse was bamboozled by your shenanigans. Where do I start? Or do I at all? I think you know what you did wrong, although I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't. Your game was so confusing I bet you lost yourself at one point or another. I like that you play aggressively, but my advice would be to let a plan form a little better first before attacking it. Player Feedback: I fully admit to trying to meddle as a host with your role. I went for a walk after putting the confirmation thread up and a horrifying thought suddenly hit me: "She's going to use her Night Action on Rick on Night One." I just kept running through numbers and scenarios to see if it would work out and then actually tried to change the role. The role was meant to be used as a way to create a strong Town block. I thought it would be used once behavior patterns had been established, but not with Pandora. Had to use it on Rick right away. Oh well, it worked out since he was lynched the next day anyway. I tried to change the role to "If you try to switch with Scum, you die," which would've forced Pandora to use it the way it was intended, to move the Royal Family around or create a strong Town block. But, not surprisingly she used it on Rick. I should've just made her Scum from the beginning. But, I ended up leaving it the way I had originally intended it because re-writing my own game once the role PMs went out would be rather shitty thing to do. I think the most impressive thing about your game was talking the Town in to lynching two members of royalty. The slow burn of your Day Four defense was brilliant. You took your time and tried to explain things, guardedly behind the scenes under the guise of protecting the Town from the Scum getting too much info about your role. It was brilliant and the timing made it more believable. It really seemed like a Town move. And in a game where, once again, people were saying they had you pegged as Scum, even when you were still Town, making it through was a feat in and of itself. I really expected the last day to end in a tie, but you and your team expertly brought Zepher down, and removing the more active and previously proven logical players was also a smart move. Awesome job as usual. You really put a lot of thought into these games and this time you put in a ton of work too. Nice game behind the scenes as well as in thread. Player Feedback: Another good show for a first time Scum. I think it's easy for Shadows to say he knew you were Scum from the get go after he has the investigation result. I don't know what could've clued him off (he tells me he'll tell me after the game like he always does, but I doubt there'll be a good explanation. He likes to do this thing where he says he's going to teach me how to spot Scum, but not until after the game. Anyway...) your game is always maddeningly hard for me to pin down. You are one of the first people I contact when playing because I trust you so much, but that "Devil's Advocate" play always makes me wonder if you're really on my side or not. That leaves you in a really good spot to play Scum, and I thought you were doing great. You definitely named all three Royal Family after observing one day of gameplay and I think that's just amazing. Everybody, I kept Rick off the dead writeboard and allowed him to continue to talk to his Scum team during the game. I like the idea because it keeps the Scum team organized and they are continuing to lose Actions and ability to work behind the scenes with the Town players. I could see how this could be seen as a disadvantage to the Town, especially when there's only one remaining Scum and he/she is less experienced or a recent Mafia School graduate and wouldn't have the experience without his dead team-mates. However, it gives the Town more incentive to organize knowing the minds will continue to be behind the Scum's game. I like the idea, although I realize there may be opposition to it, especially considering there would be no way for dead Town to continue helping Town strategize. Player Feeback: I will say two things: 1. I'm very glad you came back and played this game. You were a blast and the game wouldn't have been the same without you and 2. You need a clown to masterbate. Player Feedback: Zepher, you're always ballsy, awesome and somewhat confounding. Good job in this game for the most part. I think you responded the only way you could to the last day. I don't think claiming King was thoroughly thought out. I think your game would've been better played with Pie and Bob behind the scenes. I'm interested to know why it was so easy for you to change your vote to JimButcher. I think that started a wave in the other direction that was unchangeable. I think your intention was to tie it up, but did you think to stop it when it went all the way and Jim wasn't around to defend himself? And what happened with Pie behind the scenes. You lost his trust somehow and I'm curious to hear what that was all about. Thank you so much for the compliment about my games and I'm likewise always happy to have you play in my games. Nice and weird job in this one, as usual. Town: In general, you had your work cut out for you after Pandora was converted and you lost Shadows. Perhaps too much trust was put into Shadows? Perhaps you let him do too much work for you? Losing the protector made it really hard for the investigator to stay alive. Too bad he was so loud about his role. Although he tried to make it sound like killing him wouldn't actually do the Scum any good. It did confuse the Scum for a while. However, it confused the Town too. Fugazi, I believe, thought he was the investigator that Shadows made up. Another setback was lynching MetroiD and finding him to be, confoundingly, Town. That will take the wind out of your sails. Especially losing your investigator and Town leader on the same Night. However, Fugazi's role cop Action had the Scum confounded as well. They agonized for a bit over if it was WIFOM or not. I think the biggest reason for your loss, though, was in the final days. The quick overturn of the conviction to JimButcher and the subsequent lynching of the King put the final nails in your coffin. Had the vote been tied on Day Five and the Scum targeted Bob, the ratio Town: Scum would've been 3:2 on Day Six. Hard to tell when you're in it, but you got played by a strong Scum team, and perhaps a lack of effort on the part of some of the Town players. If you'd had Pandora on your side, maybe you would've been able to pull through better. I would definitely reconsider how that role works for next time. But, don't forget the brown frog!! And I wish the Town would've used their limited shot actions more agressively. On Night Four when people stayed in, I was disappointed that you weren't using everything left at your disposal to try and win. Scum: Best and scariest Scum team ever. You got through everything and talked your way out of almost everything except the investigation result on Rick. You had the names of the Royal Family on Day One. That's pretty amazing. You only had a kill, a block and a one-shot invention and you did a lot of damage with those. Certainly made the most out of what appeared to you guys to be a weak set of Night Actions. No offense but I really would've liked to have seen you lose another member. But the slick playing, smooth behind the scenes PM game and choice of Night Kill targets kept you ahead the whole time. A bad turning point for the Town was the night they lost their protector and investigator. Scumbags. I laughed at a lot of your PMs because you were assuming I was messing with people or made some crazy game when really it was somewhat simple and you were latching onto other's lies or your own paranoia. And you tried to direct me sometimes. Ask Shadows, it doesn't work ... anymore. But you weeded through the lies and paranoia and came out with the right answer most of the time. A really well deserved congratulations to you all, especially considering it was three of your first time playing Scum. Pandora, I would expect to be killed Night One of my next game. You have a tendency to start Town and be converted in my games. Now I'm meta-hosting you. This is the second game I've hosted where the Scum fail to trip the two roles that are meant to kill them. Maybe next time the vengeful spirit will automatically kill his killer on the following night. I can't tell if it made a difference in the balance or not since the Town never got to use it... One more thing: On Night Three, Pandora and JimButcher blocked each other. That was the reason for the unsuccessful result. More Night Action results and Day thread notes coming soon.
  23. The remaining passengers of the HMS Brutal decide to lynch Zerard Wolfe (Zepher). "But I'm the King!" Zerard protests. "Only Scum would claim King to try to get the real King to come forward!" Cuthber Neal Memlow cries. "You're only asking for all of our info so you can make a clean sweep of the Royal Family!" Clemence chimes in, "You're shamefully transparent!" "You were the one who jumped so quickly to vote out our dear Prince!" Polly Altamont also chimes in, "All I did was present my evidence. Your vote turned frightfully quick! Was I taken off of your list as Royal Family when I claimed blocker? We've all been deceived!" "I've just remember something!" Charles cuts in, "It's some sort of clue I should've remembered earlier but have only remembered just now, but I won't be saying what it is!" "I'll take a ride on this bandwagon!" Bess Bulton adds cheerfully. "Fine, screw you guys." Zerard says as he stomps off onto the plank, "I'll walk my damn self onto the plank and get this megablocks over with." And as the sun sets, Zerard Wolfe stands on the silver plank...
