Read about them a while back. they are simply torches for kids, yah know, cool stuff that they buy anyway (who as a child didn't think a torch was an awesome thing to have in a sort of super cool adventure way? Like a compass and a canteen) if it is shaped like Lego it will persuade parents that it is a cool thing. I know my brothers will want some.

Well, from a "in the public mind" point of view Indiana Jones sits on the backburner until a film pops up in the cinema. The Star Wars Lego coincided with the release of the new (at the time) Star Wars film. The excitement it drummed up and the incredible amount of star wars fanboys and nerdery it attracted meant it earned plenty of money when Lego had hit a creative slump and, lets face it, the thing is a behemoth, you can mine it for sets for decades even if you just release the same thing in new colours/parts to the obsessed fans and the latest batch of kids. The new trilogy meant it churned along for a few years, then the games gave it some more visibility and now there is Clone Wars. It has stayed in the public mind for a long time and with the new popular media created for it, more lego will be forthcoming. Prince of Persia is going to be a Disney film therefore it will have a massive publicity push close to release, meaning people will know about it and see it, from this simplistic point of view, the Lego sets could quite likely surplant the Indy sets as a new Indy film isn't forthcoming and therefore Indy won't be noticed by the fikkle public. The sets will certainly assist in the supply of extras to Indy if you want to carry it on.

Suggestions for an Inferno HQ?
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I am collecting a large amount of brown bricks and burps. Lava will be more trans orange slopes and single stud wide bricks, plus plenty of trans orange cheese slopes. This is my backburner project, so it isn't the highest priority but I am making bits here and there and collecting parts everytime I find brown bricks in my box. -

Oh ok, I just checked it against the Bricklink picture because I thought it looked odd. Maybe its a super common mistake? -

Here are my sketches, hope they are legible. -
You don't know Sienna Miller? She has been in a lot of popular films... Am currently watching on iPlayer as I missed it on Sunday.

Do you think LEGO should make SWAT sets?
Peppermint_M replied to patriot's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Simply get a bunch of black aviator helmets, trans black visors and star wars blasters. Then look out for some non-Lego police sets that have bullet proof vests. One SWAT team once regular Lego police are equipped. Well, that was my plan that will be complete by christmas (when the sets with vests turn up in a local shop). -

My Marion from Ambush in Cairo set has a chin cleft on her scared face... So it's funnily unique. -
Post about Cartoons and Anime you like
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Don't like Family Guy, South Park or The Simpsons. I did enjoy Futurama for the nerd bonus (I liked the comics too). I think I have seen far too many cartoons for my own good, but I will watch anything once. I have seen most 'toons that have been on TV (at least one episode) since around 2001... Daria is another series I loved, it was very influential on me during my formative teen years... (Yes, I often dress like a 90s counter culture cartoon character...) and probably counts as "mature". -
Post about Cartoons and Anime you like
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well, my goal of civil discussion seem to be in progress. I know anime isn't everyones cup of tea but Pokemon truly is not a representative sample (an issue I had with my peers in school), Cowboy Bebop and Lupin III are fantastic the film with Keanu Reeves shouldn't happen . I don't really count Robotech as anime, but it is just in my list of animation I like. I forgot to add Megas XLR another show that ended too soon and was epic fun. I don't watch "adult" cartoons, they are, IMO, falsely "adult" using vulgarity. I don't watch them but my 16yo brother likes them a lot... I think certain anime (Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed) fill the more grown-up cartoon slot. I am also not fond of the 'toons that seem to focus on bodily function jokes but are super popular with children today... -
Possible issues with small 9v battery box, advice wanted

I'd advise asking Lego for a replacement. When thinks get gunky like that they don't often want to work later. -
Suggestions for an Inferno HQ?
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Well, I'll scan my random sketches at some point, they are a mix of drawn lego elements and pictures of what I would like to achieve, very little colour. I will try and post them to brickshelf then link them here. A lot of your suggestions are there (in part). -
From the 163 of 180 sets I have on brickset I have 22006 pieces, that isn't counting the giant box I was given, the PaB I have purchased and anything bought on Bricklink. I have quite a bit of Lego.

Post about Cartoons and Anime you like
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Well, now that I am at home after work and not missing breakfast and nearly leaving late I can post a better list with a few reasons for liking the series: Astro Boy: Astro Boy is an amazing anime, I caught the 2003 series and loved it, I am very lucky that CBBC aired every episode, I now have it on DVD but in the wrong region so I don't get to watch it as often as I like. They are making a movie in 3D, I am very much looking forward to it. Batman: I like most of the series, from the very first to BatB but The Batman wasn't my cup of tea until the later seasons (Yay, Oracle!). Brave and the Bold is the wonderful silver age I like, the refined, less camp silver age that DC revived a while back my only nerd rage was how the Outsiders were portrayed (but then I may have missed them being teen emos in comic). Ghost in the Shell: I have it all, apart from the manga. I enjoy this series a lot, it's the one that stopped my mum calling anime cartoons and dismissing them as childish. It has densly plotted story arcs, cool characters and excellent animation. The philosophies and theories engage me and its one of my top 10. Justice League: Its epic, it had nearly all the heroes DC had on offer (by the end, with one character I would have loved to have seen: Animal Man) it had famouse story arcs and loads of nods to the DCU. Macross Plus: Before I bought Robotech, I bought this as it had been used it as source material. I love the mecha designs and the Top Gun-ish plot. Medabots: One of the first anime I watched, back before I knew what anime was, it was entertaining and cool (plus I secretly wanted one for real) I wish it was on TV more often. Monster Rancher: The second of the two major anime series I watched before my major nerdage, again, it was set apart from other 'toons on TV and was really good. Ruby Gloom: Its quirky, its entertaining and I do like the mildly gothic "look" of the whole thing, fun and not to taxing on the brain. Robotech: I first got into anime with The Big O, before that everything was just 'toons and I was a bit childish to be 15 and still watching them. Once I got into anime Mecha was my thing. A magazine I read had an article on Robotech to promote the re-mastered releases and I ate them up. Storm Hawks: Nerd Corps were already known to me for Dragon Booster (I liked that a bit) and I loved the way it looked, the atmos, the airships and the sky rides. The characters were funny and the plot good enough to keep me watching. The Big O: "Paradigm City, a city without memories." So went the Toonami promo after an episode of Teen Titans. I had long loved SF, dystopic after the end settings and robots. The giant robots, the noir-esque visuals and the excellent music attracted me, I loved it, The Big O was my first anime, it made me buy the manga and I hunted it down on DVD. I adore this series and always hope for some sort of ending to happen at some point down the line (we are only a few years of its 10 year anniversary!). X-Men: I like all the 'toons I have seen since the 90s (but the newest one seems to have passed me by...) I really tried to get into the comics but I prefer the animated series. Zoids: Another great series, I first came across Zoids from a 1996 Zoids 2 model kit (I have been a real construction toy nerd since I was old enough to have a preferred toy) and when the new wave and the anime hit western audiances I loved it, I have the chronologicaly (in universe) first two series. Great robots and a plot that has room for humour and drama. Well, that's about all for now. I am happily stop to watch these when they come on TV, I look out for DVDs and always recommend them to others. I like many many other series that I'll watch and even hope to buy but these are the "defining" series for me, super favourites that in some cases I wish were better known. Ho hum. -
After carefully searching through this subforum I am yet to find a single topic about which cartoons and anime you like, apart from the seperate show specific topics that seem to get locked or just slowly die. This thread is for you to post about your favourite cartoons and anime, you can just make a list or you can give them a synopsis or a review, whatever you feel like. Discussion is welcome but no flaming/mean replies if you hate the series, film or OVA or whatever. You can say negative things about a show if you have to but no simply complaining about shows you don't like because it degenerates into personal insults... I hope no one is "upset" by these guidelines but I'd like a nice place where I can discuss some 'toons I like and maybe find some who are familiar with the them, you can discuss MOCs you'd like to make from the series, characters you want to make custom figures of, anything as long as it is civil. So, after that: I like Robotech, X-Men, Ruby Gloom, Storm Hawks, Batman Brave and the Bold, Astro Boy, Macross, most anything by Studio Ghibli and lots of others I can't list. So yeah, post etc, enjoy.

No end of the world worries from me. Partly due to my religion (not the forum to post about this really) and partly because all the other theories from nutters and scientists alike either don't happen, aren't as bad as predicted or some many unfathomable centuries away that unless I become immortal and eternaly young I won't be affected by. Speculative fiction's predictions and ideas all have an end but also an "after the end", situations which I prefer to the current state of things... But then I am weird.

Ah, when advertising wasn't all about flash-bang and action. I am trying to think back to any I had in boxes/catalogues but I fear that they too were flash-bang action posters... These adverts are six years older than me I wish adverts could go back to emphasising the creativity and learning, instead of all the battle/fight/Save the Day action adverts you get today on TV. I know kids and parents who think that you build them, use them like a play set and then display them. If they get broken they are "ruined" and have to be carefully rebuilt...

Extra pieces that shouldn't be there
Peppermint_M replied to The Who's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I get a habdful of the smallest parts and the odd extra sword or visor. The most useful of these are cheese slopes and 1x1 stud pins as I use a lot of those parts. I haven't ever had something that doesn't belong and I haven't had any super mega wow amounts of extra's. I don't mind having the extra's (its an odd set that doesn't have a few small spares) as I can use them in my MOCs. I think on my next online Lego splurge (as much of Agents 2.0 as I can plus the SPIII impulses?) I will save all the extra parts to see exactly what I get... -
*Bof* The Peppermint_M one week invasion will commence on the 28th of July and proceed as planned to return date on the 6th of August. Kelowna is base of operations. In mundane speak: I am going on holiday to Kelowna for a week. For family stuff so I can't arrange any sort of meet-ups etc but I thought I'd post it here anyway. Can't wait to go!

What should there be in the next Agents theme?
Peppermint_M replied to Batbrick's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Why would the good guys need a rival faction that wasn't the bad guys? (slightly confused) I like the idea of Dr D. Zaster having a faction of his own, Slimeface being a plant in his rivals team. (Runs off to make old polluted factory, ready for the arrival of the Agents 2.0 sets). A new team of Agents (I like the idea that they are a four man squad operating in one area, so more teams can turn up) and a new enemy, maybe in a new "area". New colour scheme might be a bit confusing, but the Alpha Team colour changes and the complete uniform change for Arctic didn't hurt the theme any (I didn't like arctic, but that is bytheby) -
So will this be a case of random guessing or new letters daily? I am loving the extra snippets.

I am loving the modulex bricks. Lucky you to have such a nice vintage collection! I have to second that I had never heard of modulex before now.

Secret Agent Man!
Peppermint_M replied to Clone Commander's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Get Smart is silly and funny and almost cartoonlike (Ok, so I can imagine Fuse saying "Missed it by that much") with shoe phones and cones of silence. I have to make one for an Agents HQ. James Bond is about bedding the female sidekick and hiding guns in opera glasses. The only sequence I can think of that would fit lego is sledding downhill on a cello in its case.... -
Different Control Panels/Computer slopes More Minifig Parts More variety in Dark Blue/Dark Red/Dark Green parts,+ other rare colours. More colours for Jewels More Plant variety. More Animals Otherwise its ok.
