Lego Universe - RIP?
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
That's interesting news Jebediahs. Where did you hear that TLG bought all the staff? -
You may well be right. The set was actually built by my son, and he might have gotten it wrong. He got to build it, because he was the one who got it at LegoWorld. They had this corner were you were able to build with a SW designer, and you had to sign up and you could only get in there if you were a child. Luckily I had my son with me, so it was a great opportunity to chat with the SW guys directly. Ras 74 was with us too. We talked about wanted models, Lucas screening process, design process etc. After we were done, as we were exiting the area, a TLG rep came up to us and asked if they could spare us a minute. Sure we said. They showed us in to a room, where they had three SW models lined up. Two of them I recognized as being released sets, but the third one was a mockup of a future model. They asked my son which he liked the most of the three and if I remember he picked one of the ones that are allready in production. Anyway, it was interesting to be part of the Lego "model selection process" and to get a chance to understand how they decide which models to put on the market. As thanks for the time with the designers, my son got three bags of the Vulture. And it wasn't until a few days after I got home from Legoworld that I realized the set was actually brand new, and I decided to do the review. Thanks for letting me know. I aint getting much right today Fixed now in the first post.

It seems Lego Universe (the game) is not doing to well. First they halfed the price, then halfed it again. Sad that TLG could miss this. I remember when I saw it the first time and immediately wondered - "why isn't it more like the LEGO TT games with those same easy controls". But I guess that was just me. Anyway, for us LDD geeks one very good thing came out of this - Lego Universe (the mode). 30055 Vulture Droid pictorial mini review NOTE: The model in the photos is actually incorrectly built. To understand why, read my follow up post here. The bag The parts Some good parts here. 2x2 tile in Dark Blue is nice. Plenty of 1x4 Dark Bley slopes. The instruction A simple build without any surprises Hovering Waiting to go on full throttle Flight Cruising along No color Study in black and white Close up Belly landing Ouch Verdict A nice build, decent swoshability, good parts. For a mini-set, I say 8 out of 10.

Bricks convert, how?
Superkalle replied to pauldk's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
If you mean converting the bricks as such between LDD and SR3D, this is not possible. The format that is used to visualize and manage the bricks in LDD is different to the one in SR3D (and LDraw). If you on the other hand mean converting models that are built in LDD to SR3D and vice versa, this is possible, but the conversion results are unfortunately not so good. So for all practicale purposes, there is no way to exchange either bricks or models between the two formats -
Thanks for sharing this news.

Aha....now I got it Why didn't you say, and I could have given you a sweet cudley hug. Congrats there buddy. I'll have to buy you a couple of beers in Copenhagen.

[Software] LDD Manager
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I would guess your problem is because the LDD Manager file is read-only. Maybe this can help? http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/107890-read-only-file-folder-attribute.html And please note that you need to have read/write rights to the folder where you placed LDD Manager. -

No problem at all Sergio. My remark was not made with irony. I actually mean that you did make a good, and valid observation. LDD is becoming so advanced now, that one wonders if the intended audience (younger children) really can use all the cool features. That's what I meant by one foot in each camp. LDD started out as a simple tool for kids, and is slowly evolving into a very capable tool for advanded building (something all more pro-efficient LDD fans naturally love). But naturally LDD has some way to go before it reaches the advanced levels of MLCad and 3D Builder. -

That is actually a quite valid remark Sergio. LDD is defintely now with one foot in each camp - is it for advanced users or for kids? Like Shakespeare put it: To be, or not to be, that is the question -
Help!: Rotate Fail
Superkalle replied to Matanuilover's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Legolijntje is right, you can't use a cross axle like that. Replace it with a 4L bar and it will rotate, however for more a robust design you should probably redesign that joint in the first place. -

Thomaslje, I recommend you start using proper punctuation and capitalize sentences. This is a forum for AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego), and we do expect at least that you can do that. Being bad at english is one thing, not being able to write in a mature way is another. OK? -
[Software] LDD Manager
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
New version released today. As usual it can be downloaded here. Changes from the previous version: New features • View Model Statistics for all your imported models • DbM field will show if a brick is a Pick-A-Brick/DesignByMe brick. • ElementID will now be shown if that information is available. LDD Manager will show the official TLG DesignByMe ElementID and if that is not available, it will use information from BrickLink. Updates • Updated the LDD 3.0 to 4.0 substitute bricks lookup table after new info from TLG • Added support for Mindstorms elements • Increased the number of files that can be imported simultaneously • Now shows user a hour-glass when large files are being loaded • Updated the KnownColor and ElementID reference tables from BrickLink with latest data February 2011. Bug fixes • Now only shows HasDecoration if the part has a decoration added, not if it supports decoration. • Model with apostrophe in file name can now be imported correctly • Handle file that has LXF extension but is not LXF. • Can now export BrickLink WantedList also in Access 2010 (only for 32-bit version – 64-bit still not supported) • Standard Technic pin in black is no longer shown as “Check if color exist” • Will now warn user if LDD Manager database is read-only. -

Superkalle replied to henxel's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi Welcome to the LDD forum. I see you did some updates to your post based on Zblj's advise. Good. Regarding your model, I think you did a really good job, specially if this was your first build. Yes, LDD can be tricky at times, specially to put bricks in at an odd angle etc, but personally think the easy-of-use overweighs. And besides, LDD is evolving with each version, so I can only guess we'll see more and more cool features. One issue with your model is that you've used the incorrect colors in many places. Refere to the Peeron color chart to use the right color for the right brick. I can also recommend that you use LDD Manager to verify the bricks you've used. You can read more about this and other tools in the Index topic. -

[Software] LDD Manager
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi Everett. The solution is on the way. I've just found the problem and am posting an updated version shortly. Hang on there -
Well, I hope so too. It would be cool to hear what they think, because we have here on EB, as far as I understand, the worlds largest collection of official sets created in any Lego CAD-tool. I'm guessing there are over 1000 now. I mean there are a lot of cool stuff you can do with sets modelled in 3D (find where the extra part is supposed to go that is left over after buildint the set, quickly play around with alternate color schemes etc etc....)
