2nd Euroricks LDD Relay Community Build The second Eurobricks LDD community build is now finished. 20 talanted members has taken turns and together created a MOC in the spirit of 10193 Medival Market Village. A big thanks to Brickdoctor for coordinating the build and to Aanchir for keeping an eye on those colors. Even if you're not an LDD user, I urge you to download the finished model and have a look at the details and the clever building techniques. Download the MOC here, and discuss here And as a special treat, all participants will get one of these rare LDD promo tiles.

LDD Prevents valid assembly
Superkalle replied to Nicolas's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Unfortunately not, since there are few bugs in LDD, you can actually assembly in certain ways that is not legal, for example like this: -
Eurobricks' 2nd LDD RCB
Superkalle replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have 20 these bricks for all the participants of the RCB2 (plus one for Aanchir). I got them specially for the purpose of giving out to us hardcorde LDD fans, and this seems like a perfect time. I need someone to volonteer to gather the physcial adresses of everyone of the 20+1 that wants one, and then mail to them. Your postage costs will be covered by EB. You need either a PayPal or and IBAN number (within EU) to receive the compensation for postage. So basically the process is like this 1) I send all 21 bricks to a volonteer 2) That persons requests a PM from RCB particpants with their adress (if they want one) 3) The voloneer sends out the bricks 4) The voloneet gets compensated from EB for postage 5) Happy times -
LDD Prevents valid assembly
Superkalle replied to Nicolas's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It is because it is an illegal building technique. Read this excellent document and you will understand why. I know a lot of people are annoyed by this "limitation" in LDD, but personally I think it's somewhat a strenght that you are forced to build according to the rules of Lego building. No cheating here Also, note that the designers at TLG are no longer allowed to use the technique to use the Technic bricks like described in the PDF above. You may find it in older sets, but not in any new ones. However, the techinque is allowed IF there is no other bricks above. TLG designed this brick to compensate for not being able to use the 1x1 Brick with technic hole, so use that instead on the right hand side of your design. Final note: You can trick LDD into accepting the technique by manually editing the LXF-file and tweaking the z-axis position of the 1x1 Technic brick. -
WIP - The shining elevator scene
Superkalle replied to The Yellow Brick's topic in Special LEGO Themes
And since all MOCs (LDD or not) should be posted in a theme forum, I'm moving it onto Special Themes. Fangy, if this is not the right place, then let's talk about where it would belong. -
Eurobricks' 2nd LDD RCB
Superkalle replied to Brickdoctor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
A tiny, small question - is there any chance that the MOC could be slightly re-arranged to make it into a square with a village main road feel? Could for example the archery be moved in between the stables and the watermill. It would make it look better when frontpaged I made a proposal below. What do you say Brickdoctor - would that be and acceptable mod to make into the final version? eb_ldd_rcb2_turn20_b.zip -
EB 2011 Windsor Event (2-5 June) - Hotel reservations
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
The situation is not looking so good for me. As you may remember the hotel does not allow children on the weekdays, so I've been trying to find another place close to Sunningdale Park for me and the family. However, this is not going so good and for me being around the rest of you guys is the whole point of the event. I'm trying to figure something out though and I'll get back here later on... -
LDD crashes when loading file
Superkalle replied to -R8-'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
legolijntje, can you re-save the file that you could open, and upload it here. Just move one brick, so there is some difference and then save-as. It will be interesting to see if the rest of us can open it then? Everyone who manages to crash LDD gets one -
LDD crashes when loading file
Superkalle replied to -R8-'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I've been thinking some more about this. I don't think the re-naming is the problem. Can you explain some more what parts you added right before the last save? Or if you did anything else (editing, moving around etc). -
LDD crashes when loading file
Superkalle replied to -R8-'s topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
My quess is that some kind of corruption has occured and that LDD, when parsing the LXF-file, does not correctly handle the error and therefore throws you out. Let's see if someone else know what the problem can be. (PS: I also see the file was created in Universe Mode. Have you unlocked the new Extended Mode?) -
Adding parts to a set
Superkalle replied to PavementPilot's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
As far as I know, there is unfortunately no way of editing those built in palettes, or adding your own. But that would be a super feature in future version of LDD. -
Thanks TheBrickster. What a great review. An absolute pleasure to read And I really like the graphics you did to frame it all in. Perfect.

I second everything Aanchir wrote. And not only is the color system itself confusing. When adding new sets to BL it is up to the person doing the inventory to "decide" which of all possible metalic colors the parts have. This is when the situation arises that new sets have been found to use old colors. So LDD Manager is just a reflection of a colors system (at BL) that is some sense is getting really messy. PS: Murdoch - can you post your LXF and I'll have a look at it and see if there is anything wrong in LDD Manager. That's because LDD Manager translate minifig torsos and legs to separate parts. The reason is that since you in LDD can color things the way you like (one arm red and the other blue), and if you want to order that minifig from BL, then you need to pick the indivual parts and assemble the minifig yourself. I know that in 99% of the cases, you make a minifig with "standard colors", but to be able to handle all cases, I had to do it like that. PS: Great looking building BTW

LDD Pivot Help!
Superkalle replied to Mrcool1804's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, actually it should work. But then you need to make sure you've got a good design, and that rotation fix points are secured (just like with real Lego - your truck would actually not hold up very well if you built it with physical Lego). Also, generally all bricks should overlap by at least two studs to further reduce LDD's confusion about which are rotatable axis (for example the red 1x2 modified plates only overlap with one stud on teh white 2x16 plate). In this case it actually won't matter, but it's a good general rule. Download the attached LXF, click the Technic pin (important) and try to rotate and you will see that it works. But I still have to agree with Andy that there are some special cases where LDD do have a hard time rotating properly. Also note that when you rotate the structure, the other pin will not always "go along", so it's not a perfectly smooth rotation, but it works. Also, you can try to select the pin once more (click on the inside of it), and then try to rotate, and you will get a different, weird result. Clicking the right rotation point is cruical and can be tricky sometimes. ItWorks.zip -

Alpha Rex 2.0
Superkalle replied to Winston Cooper's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I found out that it's actually the blue 3M pin that is the culprit. If you rotate lowest of the three blue pins 45 degrees, the panel should fit. Seems the collision volume on the flange on the 3M pin is modelled as a square, so when you rotate, it fits. EDIT: Actually I'm wondering if not the placement of those panels is illegal against the blue pin? Anyone has the real model built up and can see if there is any stress on the elements? Either that, or the panel is badly modelled in LDD. -

LDD 4.1 Released
Superkalle replied to Aanchir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yepp, coulnt' agree more with your model , but some other all black models would in certain angles not give any reflections at all and you couldn't see what it was. I guess the solution would be that the LDD developers render with pitch black if brick outlines is turned on, and with the more greyish black if not. For us fans, the solution is off couse to use Aanchirs color reference and use the pitch black anyway. -
LDD 4.1 Released
Superkalle replied to Aanchir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
From what I recall, the "normal black" was actually intended to be pitch black, but it was then discovered that if you don't have outlines turned on an all black model looked like a big black hole -
Thanks for the headsup Aanchir. I'll add the names to those new colors. However, I'm not sure if the other three items were for info, or you suggest I change something? My objective with the color mapping in LDD Manager is (for general info to everyone else, Aanchir allready knows this ) not actually to be 100% per se, but to transform any colors applied in LDD to existing color/brick combinations in BL and vice versa. And unfortunately, due to how LDD Manager is set up to work now, I can't map two LDD colors to one BrickLink and vice versa.

Hi. Thanks for letting me know, and I did some checking: 1) The partial r2-d2 is because the one part of the decoration is a decoration, and the other is that part of the dome is colored red (that particular brick is a bit tricky since it can be multicolored). Anyway, that problem I can't do anything about. Sorry. 2) The LXF-file didn't open in LDD because LDD Manager inserted the wrong color code for Chrome Gold. That has now been fixed in the next version. Part of the problem is also that LDD does not correctly parse unknown color codes (or rather it parses it, but doesn't give a message to the user why the parsing was aborted).

LDD 4.1 Released
Superkalle replied to Aanchir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Well, the second topic has a section about all things you should try if cannot get LDD to start. Please read the entire topic. I get the feeling you just look at the heading, and then nothing more. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry. And if you after trying everthing in that topic and it still doesn't work, then you need to be more explicit about your machine, if you've run LDD 4.0 or not, etc etc. Yeah, that does seem to do the trick for most people. And thanks for posting also that info, becuase the more we know that you can get it to work by cleaning out old stuff, the better (means that there is nothing wrong with LDD itself, but that there is an installation problem)
