I can't really understand the logic you're using, here. You say it took Star Wars a few waves to start using lesser-known stuff but you want them to kill and reboot Super Heroes before we reach that point? They've essentially done that, with Batman, and all we've gotten are rehashes of the previous sets for the most part. Continuing the line has a much greater chance of giving us diversity (and on the Marvel side, better builds) than rebooting it. Evergreen means a continual stream of new sets, which means they have to diversify at some point. And technically, 2013's DC line consisted of Arkham, the Aquaman set, and the DKR set, and then three Man of Steel sets. So half of 2013 wasn't Batman. And an evergreen status could mean we get bigger waves, like Star Wars gets, which would again necessitate branching out and giving us more diversity. There's really no way I can see that evergreen status amounts to a bad thing.

Unfortunately Marvel seemingly tells them to make nothing but nonsensical Spider-vehicles. I'm kind of thinking the same (think they're 'Legend Beasts' though, but don't quote me, not huge into Chima). Actually currently using one of the Chima gorilla tribe guys as a Grodd at the moment, for a stand-in.

Yeah, It's frustrating as hell they'd choose to delay the only sets I'm interested in, and only in their biggest market.

Probably closer to March, most of the US sets across all interesting themes got pushed back in favor of pushing the movie sets.

Yeah I can agree with this. For a long time DC had the stronger animation front (IMO, anyway) with Batman:TAS, Justice League/Unlimited, Batman Beyond (maybe not the most popular but I liked it well enough just for a new take). Not to say there were no Marvel cartoons, X-men and Spider-man had a great run in the '90s but there was a bit of a drought after those. You're right though, WB/DC just aren't giving Lego much to work with. I can get behind this. All of this.

Plus a Green Arrow and in the near future, a Flash live action series. The former of which (and likely the latter once it starts) is pretty successful. Not that they'll promote it with merchandise.

Even if you're tired of Batman I don't see how "evergreen" can be a bad thing. More sets = more likely for them to run out of Batman stuff to make inside their "do-over" cycle. The reason so much of our DC stuff has been Batman stuff (and remakes of the previous line) is because it wasn't evergreen before. With 5 years between releases they can get away with rehashes a lot more. And even besides all that, how is more Lego Superheroes a bad thing by any stretch, even if it's not always to taste?

I could see it with traditional K'NEX sets. But these have paper printed with brick studs. That's just awful.

The least popular reviews on YouTube are also pretty amateurish. To me it comes down to the fact I wanna see the set, generally. BrickShow by and large has far and away the best video quality, so I actually get more out of watching them muted than actually listening to most of the others. There's not much in the way of truly excellent Lego reviewers to be found on YouTube.

So I guess the big question is, was there anything about the jet design you noticed (big molds? something else?) to warrant its $50 price tag? Or is it just plain overpriced for what it is like a lot of us are starting to assume?

To be fair, even if the news just broke about the Batman/Superman delay... that still leaves basically a year before 2015. They can probably come up with something decent in that amount of time. I mean, yeah, it'll just be more Batman, but it might still be cool. And of course Cyclops will be like Captain America. We need more bald minifigs for non-bald characters.

With the whole movie spoiler issue I'll be surprised if we hear anything super-definitive about GotG other than the shortest glimpses. Brick-built Groot i exciting, though. I love the Guardians and this year is pretty much a dream come true with them getting a movie and Lego sets.

Jean Grey might not require new molds (since they can always fall back on their favorite female hair mold). That said, who knows when we might see her, next year we'll probably get one X-men set with Wolverine, Magneto, Cyclops and Beast, then the year after we'll get one with Wolverine, Magneto, and Iceman, then we'll get one with Wolverine, Magneto and Rogue... I dunno where they're getting the quinjet comparison, but it doesn't sound like it's even going to be deserving of the $50 price tag.

From those videos it looks like the absolute worst days of Megabloks. Also, how little respect do they have for themselves that they use paper in place of bricks?
-
It feels to me like Lego really likes to go with whatever options they can that don't require headgear (and consequently, new molds). Captain America (though he'd look so much better with a headpiece like Flash's), Red Skull, Hydra soldier, Spider-Man, Venom, Deadpool, Iron Fist, Power Man... Lot of character selection that just uses 'bald' heads.

Don't remind me. It's bothersome that DC has to make do with half its sets being incompatible with the others.

Interesting they didn't mention Wolverine in the X-jet rundown. Not surprised it's going to be a smaller jet, even if ti's disappointing. Still nice to hear a bit more, but I feel like we can assume no summer/fall DC wave if they're already talking about 2015 for DC. Guess it's just the 4 Batman sets this year.

I'm glad you made it personally. I see it too but every time anyone asks about it in a thread the mods step in so it doesn't get derailed, I've never seen an actual answer!

I never really figured out the hate either. Their reviews and antics are kinda corny but I mean, at the end of the day we're all adults buying toys. I don't really care about their numbered scoring system for the sets but, at least their reviews from the past year or so are all pretty thorough and do a good job of showing the sets and figures. And unlike so many youtube reviewers their camera is almost always in focus, which is nice. I totally get the whole Brickqueen thing 'cause I've read about the scandals, but I haven't noticed the Brick Show guys actually doing anything particularly illicit or scandalous. The worst they really do is talk too long and act kinda dumb from time to time, but it doesn't really seem to warrant the rage and hatred I see. If they wanna make 20-30 minute video reviews, who are we to say they can't?

LEGO parts made of Chinese plastic?
Hrafnblod replied to Henchmen4Hire's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Forgot about the wargs. I don't have any eagles though. But I'm pretty sure the wargs are chinese plastic. From what I recall, everything individually packed (except cloth parts, of course) is from the Chinese factories. -

Don't know if they're actually in any current sets but I think the system cows/goats/pigs are among that list. Maybe the chickens? I seem to recall the barn animals mostly coming in separate bags last set I got with them. -
If they were bought by Bain, it won't. For one thing, Bain basically doesn't do anything but gut retail companies they buy. For another, it's just not realistic for a chain like Toys 'R' Us to make a recovery dramatic enough for Bain to find it acceptable, in a market increasingly dominated by online sales. And by now they've probably burnt a lot of good will with the more savvy consumers who realize there's absolutely no reason to shop there and pay the huge markup. I stopped in mine today and was kind of excited to see 9466 on the shelf still, which I never got around to picking up... only to see a $69.99 sticker on it. Even discontinued I can get it cheaper than that! And Jabba's Palace was $164.99.

I always wonder about this too, it seems really counter-intuitive for them to have in some cases whole waves of a theme taking up a page or two of space with products that aren't coming back.
-
If I do pick up the new X-men set, I'll have to make a little diorama of a fanatic Wolverine fan pestering the real Wolverine for an autograph using that idea.
