  1. Durinsbane has been around for a while, he's not making this stuff up. If he was, he would have told us the Mirkwood set had better Elves :P
  2. Yeah. Then I'm assuming the 'warrior with a big a red beard' is one of the Orcs, then?
  3. Disappointed that the Elves in Mirkwood Elf Army are not the armored design. That's pretty lame, considering that it was easy to armybuild hooded Elves from the polybag last time. If it's identical Elves to that, that will be extremely underwhelming of Lego, given that the polybag elf was just a basic rehash of the elf from Barrel Escape, except with a green hood that clashes with the color of the shirt. Good to hear we're getting new Orcs though - that's something. So it looks like this wave will actually be more of an Orc armybuilder than an Elf armybuilder. Acceptable, I suppose, given the poor treatment Lego has given Orcs thus far. I hope fervently that we'll see a set that can effectively armybuild any of the following in Dec. 2014: Lakemen, armored Elves, and/or Iron Hills Dwarves. Armored Gundabad Orcs sound pretty sweet, though. Durinsbane, what about the Nazgul in the set? Is he hooded and cloaked, or is he a Twilight Nazgul? A Twilight Nazgul would be incredible.
  4. Nope. 1 definite armybuilder set (Mirkwood Elves) and 1 possible (Dol Guldur Ambush) - though if the latter is just more of Lego's interminably dull Orc clones, then it will be too lame to be a proper battle pack. The other two are definitely not - Laketown Chase would be if it had 3 or 4 guards, but it has a paltry 1. Dol Guldur Battle - a $70 set is just too expensive to be an army builder, and it has multiple main characters, including *another* Gandalf the Grey, who now has been in every single Tolkien wave thus far. Give Gandalf the Grey a rest, Lego!
  5. Your latter prediction is likely pretty accurate. The Dol Guldur Ambush, however, will not be from AUJ, as there are no Orcs in Dol Guldur in AUJ, and we know the set has 2 Orcs. Radagast was also possibly confirmed as being in the Dol Guldur Battle large-set.
  6. Which elves they are isn't relevant - it's the fact that we're getting an armybuilder in the Hobbit line. It's not really much to go on, but for a film that's centered on what will be the biggest battle in the PJ films since Pelennor, I'd be seriously surprised if there's no armybuilder in the December 2014 wave. Really hope we get some pictures soon. Even though I'm going to buy all the sets in all likelihood, but it's much better to know well ahead of time to plan out purchases.
  7. I'm glad about it. The first wave was 100% dwarf-focused, and these movies are bigger than that. Also, we've gone two Tolkien waves without anything resembling an armybuilder - Mirkwood Elf Army (and possibly Dol Guldur ambush, depending on what exactly is in it) are a breath of fresh air. Also, we'll get more dwarfs in the TABA sets because they all will get fancy Lonely Mountain armor for the final battle - not to mention a possible Iron Hills-based army pack if Mirkwood Elf Army is any indication.
  8. A Mt Doom set could be fudged to be a Prologue themed set. 'slopes of Orodruin' type of deal. Have the gamestop Elrond (perhaps updated with Elrond's proper hair), Isildur, Elendil, Sauron, Orcs, and 2 of each of Numenoreans and Noldor. But I agree overall that a Mt Doom set is largely a waste. It's not a particularly special volcano. Sammath Naur would look goofy if not done right, either. A Prologue set would be best done as a battle pack in the 12.99 style without any main characters, or in a larger format with Sauron, Elendil, Gil-galad and Isildur. Since we're in fantasy land... My absolute dream wave: $12.99 The Last Alliance of Elves and Men: 2x Noldor Warriors: tower shields (unique mold), gold elf spears, new helmets, purple capes. 1x Numenorean Archer with winged helm, black longbow, black quiver, black cape. 1x Numenorean Warrior with gladius, shield, winged helm. Small rock formation with Numenorean standard. $19.99 The White Tree: The White Tree. Pippin (Citadel guard). Guard of the Citadel x2 with spear, cape, and unique helm. Gondorian Warrior x2 with gladius, shield, pointy winged helm. $29.99 The Witch-King's Hour: Armored Eowyn, Armored Witch-King w/ flail & sword (armored and unique helm can be removed/swapped out to mod in a normal Nazgul), Merry (Rohan), Theoden. Fellbeast. $59.99 The Mirror of Galadriel: Galadriel, Celeborn, Frodo (suspenders), Haldir (Lorien garb), Lorien Elves x2. Galadriel's Mirror, stairs & mini-mallorn trees, throne platform area. $79.99 Ithilien Ambush: Mumakil. A couple trees/shrubbery. Faramir (ranger). Madril. Damrod. Ithilien Rangers x2. Haradrim Mumakil Driver (as seen in ROTK) x1. Haradrim x2. Easterlings x2 (because why not). $199.99 Barad-Dur: Superbly molded Sauron. Elendil. Isildur. Updated Prologue Elrond (correct cape, hair). Gil-galad. Giant, colossal, fortress-of-darkness Barad-dur. Massive, movable, light-up Eye of Sauron on top.
  9. My cohort and I raided the Natick MA Lego Store on Monday and searched every single package. We found only *three* Tiki warriors. Total haul came to: Tiki - 2 (gave 1 to our employee buddy at the store since he's a cool cucumber) Blues Brother - 1 for my musical brother Barmaid - 2 good medieval outfit Barbarian - 7 buying them for the cheap gladius x2 Welder - 3 because Bioshock 1 MOC also he's awesome Constable - 4 because I failed to get enough British Queensguard when they were out Gingerboy - 1 cuz he's weird Yeti - 3 cuz they're ...cool :P Female Scientist - 1 because **** Lego Friends #feminism #anitasarkeesian Evil Robot - 1 because the armor Scarekrow - 1 cuz he looks very boss Overall, excellent series. One of the best. Definitely wins the prize out of all 11 series for: Most Original Minifig: Gingerboy (dat head) Most Original Armybuilder: Tiki Man (epic mask of epic) Best Blue Collar Character: Welder (dat blowtorch, dat helmet) Swaggest Musician: Blues Brother (even more so than the violin case gangster) Most Adorable Monster: The Yeti (an excellent character design. It appeals to both genders as well, which is always a good thing) Best Medieval Parts Pack: Barbarian (fur short pants/boots combo, light-armored torso with excellent arm detailing, scarred fighter face, generic tousled peasant hair in black, and the coup de grace, not one but *two* silver gladii) Best Agricultural Minifigure (ever?): The Scarecrow. So many little details. Superbly done.
  10. Just use ebay. Lots of auctions have sets sold without minifigs.
  11. Exactly. They'd never leave the summer slot free of Tolkien sets when anticipation is high for the final Hobbit film. 4th wave is definitely a risky proposition, but I think there's a pretty solid chance of one "final wave" that might have both Hobbit and LOTR. Even if it's just a Grey Havens ship that'd be nice.
  12. Yeah, I honestly can live without a Minas Tirith. I just want to armybuild Gondorians.
  13. I think we've had quite enough of boats taking up large slots in the line (cough corsair cough). But I'd still buy a well-done Grey Havens ship.
  14. 79011 Dol Guldur Ambush £19.99 Likely will have Radagast, since he's at Dol Guldur with Gandalf when he says 'what if it's a trap' in the trailer. 79012 Mirkwood Elf Army £29.99 Yessssssss. I smell a battlepack. Annoyingly $30 again, but from the Hobbit line, I'll take what I can get. 79013 Lake Town Chase £49.99 already discussed. 79014 Dol Guldur Battle £69.99 Hopefully it won't suck like the Wall and Door of Moria. I don't expect too much, but I bet this is where we will see a Hobbit Elrond and a Galadriel. Goody goody.
  15. Ugh. It's irritating to see sets based on those unfunny phallic yellow monstrosities. But it sets a precedent for inching Lego a bit further down the slippery slope from kidfriendly dullness to all-ages glory. So I say unsarcastically, Lego, please, sell out more.
  16. A minute is way too high an estimate IMO, it takes maybe 10-15 seconds to figure out what minifig is inside a bag. As "The Hunt" only manifests as an hour or two, three times a year, it's hardly super taxing. I usually spend between $50 and $100 on a wave, so financially I don't find it as much of a burden, especially as pretty much the only other lego that's worth buying to me is LOTR, which is ~$300 a wave, every 6 months. I used to be a completionist kind of person, but a combination of expenses and realizing that it's pointless led me to be more selective. For instance, In series 10, I had no interest in the paintballer or skydiver, as modern sports figures are pretty dull. But I nabbed 6-8 of the Roman Captain and the Revolutionary Soldier because they are genuinely awesome characters, and armybuilding is what it's all about for me. Ended up with 3 or 4 Gorgons as well since one needs 3 to be mythologically accurate. I missed Series 1, and skipped most of Series 2, but cherrypicked about 16 Spartans. Same thing for later series - 8 elves, maybe 5 Musketeers (series 4 had no truly good armybuilders), maybe half a dozen each Chaos Dwarves and Murmillos, half a dozen highlanders and maybe twice that many Romans...you get the idea. But as a rule I pass on characters who have to do with sports, or who look too silly or dull to use.
  17. That's not a glitch. If you want to edit in a comment without spamming in a new post, there's no reason not to do it.
  18. Exactly. Lego are our benefactors. To border on outright libel against their employees is a sin unforgivable. After Mark has come on and confirmed that this guy is an out-and-out liar, he continues to lie?!?! Never seen anything like this on Eurobricks. Where is the banhammer? As to the topic at hand. I anticipate the cool blue of TDOS packaging, and a new Thorin for TABA sets. Gonna be good!
  19. Called it the instant I saw the first post. And I was right. Why would you throw away any rep you'll ever have on these boards for barely a page of tempered interest at best? The 'pale Azog' in Fall '13 Hobbit sets sounds rather bogus to me too, though I still believe we'll see Azog in that wave. Smacks more of someone who saw the pale-Azog photoshop and took it for serious.
  20. Gonna assume you're just misinterpreting Yazneg, but by all means, post a pic.
  21. I like that Laketown fellow a lot. For $50, it really ought to have come with 2 of them at the very least, though. This is a pretty painful stretch PTP-wise, especially since there's only two new minifig headpiece molds in the set.
  22. Agreed. Some convention rent-a-schmuck has no idea what Lego's going to release. It's too many unique molds in one figure, 100% likelihood it will be in a TDOS set, or TABA at the latest.
  23. I agree. Though the Thorin hair mold was truly designed for Fili and Kili, it works great for Thorin and would work well for Bard. Dude, this is actually a win-win. This way, we get a cool Qui-gon hairpiece in black - totally new color - and you can just slap on hair from the spare Thorin you'll have from this set. That's what I'm going to do! As a bonus, they even gave Thorin a new outfit in this set. Awesome. I'm very pleased.
  24. Why would you hope that? It'd be much better if we knew what was coming well ahead of time. All the better to plan purchases in advance, and to get an idea of what's to come in future waves.
  25. I'd be happy with - and purchase - a Barad-Dur that matched the size of Lego Orthanc. All the interior would be cool Mordor stuff - torture chamber, armory, forge, etc. - topped with a blazing Eye of Sauron. To make up for the less iconic interior, Lego could include a ton of rare and exclusive Orc characters - Shagrat, Gorbag, Mordor Uruk-hai, etc. It would be really impressive to have the two to display side by side (rather than an Ent, the accompanying creature could be a Fell-beast with a nondescript Nazgul). But as for Orthanc itself. It took me 6 hours from start to finish to construct it. An excellent, satisfying and monstrous build. Well worth the $199.
