The lack of a visible control for the water cannon is intentional. Modern airport fire trucks/crash tenders have remote-operated, computer-controlled water cannons - "snozzles." No need to stand up on the roof - the firefighters can control the snozzle from inside the comfort and safety of their cockpit... with those handy-dandy stickered control panels doing the work for them http://www.oshkoshai...ks/snozzle.aspx Your pictures do a great job of showing why I am in love with this model. I think it does an incredible job of capturing the prototype in proper scale, is replete with great play features and just plain looks slick. Compare it with the real-world Oshkosh crash tender in the above link... the resemblance is actually striking! It looks damn close to real. The fact that it does it, as you note, without any specialized bricks or big pieces, makes that even better. It is, IMO, one of the best of all the Great Vehicles so far released.

I like the new one's office building design, but the jail section is awful - you have to rely on magic hands to put the prisoners in their cells.

Looks like it's a train information sign.

I'm a fan of the new station, too. Modern appearance, which fits with the modern trains.

Latest updates on LEGO set sales
polarscribe replied to gylman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Fred Meyer (at least in Alaska) is running a Buy Two Get One Free sale (equal/lesser value, of course) on ALL in-stock LEGO sets. I believe the flyer said the sale runs through the 18th of January. -
Fred Meyer had a Buy Two Get One Free sale on ALL LEGO sets. Yes, all. So I went kinda nuts. 70802 Super Cycle Chase 70808 Bad Cop's Pursuit 60060 Auto Transporter (free) 60057 Camper Van 60059 Logging Truck 60042 High Speed Police Chase (free) $120 for $170 worth of sets. Getting 60042 free was nice because otherwise it's a terrible value - $20 for 110 pieces.

Get Fire Brigade while it can still be found for reasonable prices. It's been discontinued and is out of stock with LEGO, but some retailers still have it available.

I love the fact that it's Octan Ice Cream! Is the secret ingredient petroleum products, or has Octan become LEGO's in-house all-conquering consolidated corporate conglomerate? :p

I think the difference in the police uniforms can be explained, in the U.S., anyway, by considering them police officers from different agencies. Here, we have a wide array of different law enforcement agencies with overlapping authorities. So just as the different-uniform "forest police" are park rangers, the "old" police could be considered the city police, and the "new" police might be the state or county police. :)

A half-cage rear door (as in the photo example) would be something different. Just pasting the standard full-height building jail cell door on the back is laziness.
-
Those GRogall photos have made me less interested in the new Prisoner Transport. They ruined its realism by sticking a jail-cell barred door on the back, instead of solid doors like the 2011 version. I suppose that's relatively easily MODded, but why did Lego have to go fix something that wasn't broken? http://www.brickshel...43_box_back.jpg

Not a fan of the 60049 Helicopter Transporter. How many ugly, silly single-seat police helicopters does anyone need...
-
Airport crash/fire/rescue trucks in real life are MUCH bigger and wider than city firetrucks. There is nothing unrealistic about Lego accurately replicating that fact. They may be harder to "fit into a layout," but the fact is that the larger airplanes, helicopters and road vehicles that we're seeing today are much *more* detailed, true-to-life and accurately-scaled models than anything ever seen before in factory-sold Lego kits. I never liked the tiny single-seat bubble helicopters which are neither remotely realistic in a modern setting nor useful for much of anything, and the days of the single-row-of-seating airliners are thankfully long gone. What we have today are models exponentially better in every way.

I don't care for the new prisoner transport at all (60043) - it looks blockier and less realistic than the previous prisoner transport (which had doors!) But 60041 and 60042 are great "army building" sets to get fleets of police cars and motorcycles. Lego sets have always had a bias toward police "special vehicles" and too few normal squad cars, so it's nice to see the latter. The 60042 police car is basically an exact duplicate of the 2012 Forest Police Patrol Car. The airport fire truck is INCREDIBLY SEXY. Want.

The Town Hall is on Amazon.com for only ~$177. Given the higher piece count than other modulars, at the Amazon price it's a darn good deal right now. I just picked one up so I'm kind of biased, but I'd go for it if I was you ;)

Incroyable! Bravo! A real inspiration to those of us just getting our third modulars... :)

Hah! Excellent. I work for the real-world U.S. Forest Service (not in the fire division) and your designs are really creative and darn accurate! If you really wanted to be dead-on, FS fire trucks are either green with a white stripe (older paint scheme) or white with a green stripe (newer paint scheme). As seen here: I kinda doubt Lego makes bricks in the right shade of green, though :(
-
Right - the newer ones are *closer* to scale, not exactly on scale.
-
I would argue that the planes are more realistic now than they were then. They're wider and bigger, sure - but that's certainly correct vis-a-vis minifig scale. Real-world passenger and cargo jets aren't just wide enough for one person, as they were in the four-stud era.
-
In real life, cranes are generally significantly wider than average cars, trucks and other light/medium-duty vehicles. It would look weird if the crane wasn't wider than the bus.
