Technic 1h 2013
Meatman replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I wonder what the B model for the F1 car will be? -
Technic 1h 2013
Meatman replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Finally some pictures. I like the 42006 and of course the Formula One car. The motorcycle looks a bit like the lime green dirt bike that came out a few years ago. Not caring a whole lot about the pull back race cars though. -
I'll be watching this! I love Lego coasters.

Announcement: MocPlans.com
Meatman replied to nychase's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What about if people want to give the instructions away for free and not charge? Do you still host them or charge them for using your convenience? -

Blakbird, I completely see the point of this now. I think this could really be a great thing. But if I were already selling instructions(LOL like I would ever make anything good enough) and were already paying for my own hosting site, I probably would not want to deal with a middleman to sell them for me. -

I have another question. If you purchase an instruction download, will you have to wait for the access through e-mail or will it be given immediately upon purchase? I think this is a great idea for the designers to spread the word and advertise for their MOC instructions, but it is going to be tough to beat the system that Rebrickable has going. -

If you don't mind me asking, why would someone like Paul need anyone to host anything for him or handle funds when he is already doing that for himself and Nathanael on his own website? I am assuming that you would have to be profiting from this somehow per sale otherwise you wouldn't be doing this? -

Isn't this essentially what Rebrickable is already doing? Most of the MOC builder's models are already there and categorized with links to the instructions, not to mention the slick feature of ading the sets in to find out what parts you still need. Or is this something that people can load up and manage themselves? You won't be hosting anything there correct? -
Lego technic challenge 2012
Meatman replied to Ondra's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think people are primarily upset because the subject of this contest had already been known for many months and people were hoping for something different when it was officially announced. I also think people would much rather see a new model than a reboot of one that already exists. I don't have a problem with this contest as I think it will be great for boosting Crawler sales, but I can see why others may not think it is so spectacular. -

You're right Blakbird! It even says in the video about what functions that you would like to add to your model. -

Anyone else notice those new blue technic panels on that example in the video? -
Legal vs Illegal techniques
Meatman replied to Nazgarot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When Lego designs a set, their main goal is for the set to be torn down and rebuilt in various ways without any of the parts being used in a way that would damage them. -
Legal vs Illegal techniques
Meatman replied to Nazgarot's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was skimming through the thread and missed what you had said. I noticed the post directly after yours asking about them being legal or not, so I assumed that the answer had still not yet been given. -
I really don't consider modding and creating parts that didn't exist before and having professionally chromed parts the same because the structure of the model doesn't change based on the parts being chromed. For example, Paul's Vamp GT looks amazing with the Red Chromed wheels, but the same exact model can also be built using the traditional black or the light blue gray wheels as I have seen various people do on brickshelf. Same thing with bricksonwheels trucks. He could also just as easily use the light blue gray or gray parts instead. But creating parts to make a model work structurally or mechanically to me is not so impressive and dismissive.

Legal vs Illegal techniques

Aren't there tiny clips inside of the driving ring that are constantly stressed and can't relax back to normal when the new style is used? -

LOL. It is VERY MUCH easier to connect beams where the pins are on the same beam. It can be a nightmare trying to get just 2 pins on one beam and 2 pins on another to line up. -
Technic 1h 2013
Meatman replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This doesn't quite make sense. So the same names of the sets have been listed twice for next year? -
I can see both sides on this one, but me personally, I can't accept home made parts mixed in with traditional unaltered parts. It just seems like it defeats the purpose of looking for the best possible solution. Like Dluders said, people already have a difficult time associating technic with the system blocks, and I would think that knowing that technic builders cut and modify existing parts probably wouldn't help the connection.
-
Alright, after seeing these pictures I feel like I have to redo mine in white now. How hard is it going to be to get the parts? Or did you guys buy the last of them? I like the white with the red engine covers as well. Paul, could you please post some pictures of how you modified your model to use the new gear rack?

I would like to see cuusoo rotate the models that they showcase on the front page. If you break into the top 6 in votes, you have a huge advantage over anyone else.
