Does anyone have (or know where I can find) a decal for a referee's shirt? I'm working on my first MOC/scene, a wrestling ring (pics of it so far on my blog at that link), and I need a ref in there. Thanks!

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
LibraryBoy replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow, that looks amazing. I love the look for Asgard. And is Mark 1 Tony standing in (a very sandy) Grand Central Station? Sure looks it. I love seeing real-life places rendered in Lego! -
Great job, ianmrid! I think my favorites are Taskmaster, Warlock, and Zabu, but good work all around. I particularly liked how you represented the powers for the New Mutants and Generation X kids.

[MOC] Stark Industries Armory [Iron Man Hall of Armor]

Wow, this is amazing. Were I wearing a hat, I would tip it in salute! -
I was kind of cold on this set when it was first announced, but I picked it up today and I'm glad I did. The car is fun and sporty looking, as you say (it looks like something you could drive around in Lego City Undercover), and since it has those graspable handles, it is just begging to be used in an Action Comics #1 cover homage vignette, which is something I plan on putting together very soon. I pretty much bought this set specifically so I could make that!

Professor Flitwick from the Harry Potter line. There's a yellow glasses & bushy mustache head out there that looks a little less pronounced (and probably more accurate), but the huge mustache made me laugh, the glasses look more turn-of-the-century, and honestly, this looks much more like TR than it ever did Flitwick!

I picked up the Revolutionary Soldier / George Washington CMF the other day and it hit me that I really like the recognizably-famous historical CMFs and would like to see more, particularly from US history. Long story short, I ended up making my favorite president (well, besides Lincoln, because everyone's favorite is Lincoln), Theodore Roosevelt in his Rough Riders uniform. Pretty simple recipe - Professor Flitwick head (which always looked more like TR than Flitwick to me, anyway), the wide brimmed hat from the Adventurers line, the bandana from the Outlaw CMF (bandana should be blue to be accurate, but it'll do for now), one of the tan desert Nazi torso & legs from the Indiana Jones line, brown hands to simulate gloves, cavalry/pirate sword and a couple of guns (revolver and rifle) for the saddle holders on the horse. He came together pretty quickly, but I'm quite happy with the results. And I have an awesome idea for a San Juan Hill vignette if I can find the time and the bricks.

TV / Movie Customs (Purist or Otherwise)
LibraryBoy replied to LibraryBoy's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
My latest attempts at some of the Doctors (4, 6, 9, 10, and 11), inspired in part by some suggestions I've seen in this thread and in others: I want to track down the Frodo hair for 4 (I've never been a big fan of Tom Baker's hat for some reason), and a scarf (almost took the scarf from the Character Builders 4th Doctor fig, but that seemed like cheating somehow), but this is off to a good start. I shamelessly borrowd the Bilbo torso & hat idea from another user here, but I am super thankful for that idea! Bilbo's hair works alright for 6, at least until they make the bubble/afro hair in blonde (and brown for 4, for that matter!). It doesn't show up well in the picture, but I used a left arm that was a different shade of red from the rest of the Small Clown CMF torso since the 6th Doctor's coat sleeves (and coat everything else) are mismatched. Left arm should actually be lighter, not darker, but it'll do. I used black legs on 9 (as Eccleston's costume did involve black pants), but the black torso on black legs looks almost too dark to me! Happy the shirt under the jacket is red, though. 10 and 11 stayed mostly the same from before, I just tracked down the Sleepyhead Kid's hair (thanks for that suggestion, whomever said that!), and 11's hair is the Maverick Hair from BrickForge... maybe too dark at black instead of dark brown, but it has the proper floppiness and the part on the correct side, so I'll take it. -
As I was watching Jason and the Argonauts last night (R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen), it dawned on me that although we've had several mythological monsters (minotaur, cyclops, Medusa), we haven't seen much in the way of mythical heroes. I'd love to see a Hercules (complete with lion-skin looking cape and headgear that looks like the head of the Nemean lion) or Perseus (nice chrome-looking shield, maybe?) or someone. Even the gods themselves would be excellent additions... and think of how many customizers would be psyched to have a Hermes/Mercury helmet so they can make a Golden Age Flash!

This looks amazing! I think it's especially clever the way you have the straps pulling down on the balloon in the middle, slightly over-inflating the ends. Nice attention to detail there!

REVIEW: 9348 Community City Minifigures
LibraryBoy replied to SilentMode's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I saw this at either Legoland Florida or the Downtown Disney Lego Store back in March, and the only reason I remember that is because it was the first time in a long while that I remember seeing these anywhere. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
LibraryBoy replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm not surprised to see so much Series 9 backstock. After a brief appearance in stores around here (Rhode Island) when they were first released, they disappeared from shelves for months and only recently started showing up again at Five Below and Target. So as the Series 10s sell out here, I notice they're just as likely to be restocked with 9s as they are with more 10s. As a result, when the 10s started showing up a few weeks ago, I made sure to hunt down all the figures I knew I wanted in case they pulled a similar vanishing act. First priority was the librarian (it's not just a screen name, folks!), then after finding her I tracked down the baseball fielder, George Washington, Medusa, Warrior Woman, and the Roman soldier. I just need to find another Bumblebee since I gave the first one to my wife (she looked like the bee girl from Blind Melon's "No Rain" video when she was little), and maybe the paintball guy (his torso looks like it'd be good for a Ghostbuster custom, and I have a proton pack & gun on the way from BrickForge) and I think I'm good for this set for myself. My son, on the other hand, he's a different story.- 1,076 replies

More great work, autorazr. I'm particularly taken with the Hobgoblin (love the glider especially), Valkyrie, and Dr. Strange (I echo the sentiments about the use of the gold medal for the Eye of Agamotto... simple, but clever!)

Those are awesome, autorazr. The ED-209 and Lt. Dan are great, but my favorite is the Scanners guy since that made me legitimately laugh out loud. -
Managed to find this at a Lego Store in NYC this past weekend. The base section is pretty weak (though I think the sliding door is a simple-but-clever design), but the pod is a cool design and fun little build, and I think the minifigures are great. This look for Superman is starting to grow on me (and it's WAY better than what he's wearing over in the comics these days), Zod looks awesomely evil in his armor & helmet (to the point where I can't imagine displaying this iteration of the figure without it), and Lois... well, the head doesn't make her look particularly like Lois OR Amy Adams, but I can replace that (and maybe her hair) with the Lois I MOCed to go with the Superman/ Wonder Woman / LexMech set from the first wave (an extra Wonder Woman head - because Lois would look angry about be captured, not scared - and the short black bob hairpiece; I was using a Luna Lovegood torso & legs for that Lois's body, but was never satisfied, so this look will be much better).

I've always been surprised and disappointed (surprisappointed?) that we haven't gotten a Danger Room set for the X-Men. -

Easily my favorite set of the line, and probably the only one I'd get if they'd manage to include Silver in there. Great review, thanks so much!- 39 replies

Eleven Doctors-Doctor Who
LibraryBoy replied to SteampunkDoc's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I like these a lot! 6 is a tough one. I found some yellow legs from an old school space set and combined them with the clown torso, though I popped off the left arm and substituted one that's a different shade of red to (mis)match the jacket Colin Baker wore a little better. Having a hard time finding a decent head, though, and the hair is frustrating! I wish they'd release the afro/bubble hairpiece in more colors... brown for 4, and blonde for 6! Still wouldn't be perfect, but a hell of a lot closer.- 14 replies

Wow, those Toys R Us prices are crazy. I'll wait for these to hit Target or until I can get to a Lego Store!

TV / Movie Customs (Purist or Otherwise)
LibraryBoy replied to LibraryBoy's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
These are all fun. The 4th Doctor is particular great... I recognize the CMF Sherlock/Detective head, but is that a Bilbo torso? And Peter Tomarken... that's inspired. I can't not see it, now! "Big bucks, no whammies, no whammies... aaaaaaaand... STOP!!!" "Stop on a trip to PUERTO VALLARTA!" -
TV / Movie Customs (Purist or Otherwise)
LibraryBoy posted a topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I apologize if there was already a thread for this, but I didn't see one. Anyway, I posted my 10th and 11th Doctor customs over in the Purist Superhero thread, but it didn't really feel right since Doctor Who isn't really a superhero property. I'm happy with my 10, though the hair isn't really David Tennant-y enough. I need to track down the spiky hairpiece from the Sleepyhead figure from a few Collectible Minifigure series back (though aftermarket prices on just the hair put it in the $5-7 range, which I think is a lot for Lego hair!). Not really satisfied with the 11 hair, either, but Matt Smith's own hair kind of defies explanation, so I'm not sure what to do about that yet. These work as placeholders, though. Here's my 7 year old son's attempt at making two of his favorite TV personalities, Jamie and Adam from Mythbusters: Considering these were made entirely from pieces in the Create A Minifigure bins at the Lego Store, I think he did a pretty awesome job (Adam is a particularly good likeness; Jamie was harder to nail down... maybe a Professor Flitwick head?). He says the cop is the guy who's there to make sure they don't blow themselves up. -
These are awesome! You could probably make a pretty rad Theodore Roosevelt using a Professor Flitwick head.

Had to look that up, but yes, brilliant! I've only ever seen it in the light brown for Lupin and black for Robin from the first Batman line, but yeah, it's probably the better option. Of course, I kinda have the black earmarked for a Captain Marvel Jr. (non-purist) custom, but we'll see. Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. I'm okay with my choices as placeholders for now, but I will very likely take this advice to heart (and Bricklink) as soon as circumstances allow. :)
