    HMS Uncapturable

It is a form of ship-evolution - if it survives the fall it stays the same, if it breaks it deserves a redesign! That's what I try to tell myself every time this happens anyway! Thanks also Tomcat - glad you've liked the films! And possibly one day Brickington might end up with this one...* Mysterious eyes* We shall see!
  2. Hi folks! A very minor piece of news (which might not even be that new!) but while in the Lego Store in Liverpool today I unexpectedly discovered a redcoat torso amongst the usual chef's and policemen. Following this I discovered several shakos amongst the headwear. Sadly no eporlets in the accessories area but two out of three aint bad! I know there are probably cheaper ways of building up a redcoat army (as opposed to 3 figs for £3.50) but it just surprised me to find them in there. All I can assume is that leftover or returned redcoats from '09 have been sent out to Lego Stores for this purpose (As the POTC redcoats don't have shakos). There were a number of CMF series 2 & 3 parts lurking in there also so I'm assuming these are leftovers also! Anyway, just thought I'd point out the Redcoat find for anyone who may be visiting a Lego Store soon and fancies a nosey! Edit: Mods - sorry for the triple post of this! No idea what happened there!

    HMS Uncapturable

My my you are observant Jack! The ship featured in episode one is the same ship but in a former life - where the video I posted in this thread somewhat came true... I dropped it :( So I rebuilt her as the Uncapturable!
  4. [pid][/pid] 124B Ahoy there, I have decided to finally post some images of my 44 gun redcoat warship "HMS Uncapturable". She is designed to be slightly overpowered due to her upcoming role in Brickington Sails Forth: Episode Eight. I was going to wait until I'd finished the Brickflick to show images of her but I havent really started it yet and these images have been waiting to be uploaded for six months already! According to The Redcoat Times: The Uncapturable sets out to capture! Ladies and gentlemen of our great empire, it is with great pleasure that The Redcoat Times can reveal that our strongest warship to date has been completed. HMS Uncapturable will sail the waters safe in the knowledge that with a broadside of 22 guns there is no chance that she will fall into enemy hands. She will sail the seas, reigning death and destruction down upon the Bluecoats and our foes. Friends and families of those crewmen lucky enough to sail aboard her have no need to worry as all enemy vessels will be blown out of the water or surrender long before they may fire a shot in anger. For the glory of the Redcoat Empire! Stanley Studbrick, Reporter. Of course, this faith may be slightly misplaced. The more observant may notice a floor in the level of the lower gunports - something my little redcoats have glazed over in their own view of the ship! As I say, the ship is deliberately overpowered also for the size of it - in order for it to fit in with the story. There is no interior to the ship, due to it being more of a "film set" any interior shots will be filmed separately for convenience. The top deck can be removed however to allow easy manoeuvring of cannons! So without further ado... here she is! While we're at it, we might as well meet the crew! Below we have the officers: The marines: (Brickington seems to have made it onto this one... cant quite remember what my logic was as he'll be on a different ship during the film!) And the sailors:img] The Marines are inspected on the deck of the ship: Taking in the view from the bridge: An officer ensures that there is no slacking! "Now, show me that horizon..." So, the ship is now complete - its come a long way since two years ago when I first posted the below movie: Thanks for viewing, and as ever all feedback is much appreciated!
  5. I would estimate at 400. I might conduct a census in the near future!
  6. I'm happy with a mixture but would lean slightly more towards the older ones. When I'm making a brickflick I generally ensure that the world is identifiable as LEGO and like to drop in LEGO related dialog - so LEGOey looking animals are good! However I feel that a lot of the newer animals produced by LEGO are generally either still LEGO looking or quite cartoony - I wouldnt say there are many that are super-realistic - so I can quite happily live with the newer versions.
  7. Alas, our one bedroom flat does not accomodate for such luxuries as a fun room! She's happier since I got a laptop for brickflicking as it means I can now sit at the dining room table (Which is actually in the living room) and create and film on there as opposed to spreading out over the carpet next to the old desktop - plus I'm not getting any younger for clambering around on my hands and knees! She is quite tolerent of my hobby though and she seemed to really enjoy doing the voices for the film last night! I'll get her on this forum... one day! Thanks for the replies everyone, its interesting to hear about how long LEGO has been a part of peoples lives, and whether or not they've had a break from it or not!
  8. Hi! First off, I apologise if this has been asked before or if there is a topic somewhere that I haven't spotted! If so, feel free to close this mods! I just wondered how long people had spent in the LEGO-less (No LOTR similarity intended) world? and also what it was that drew people back to the thing that we all love? Personally I was addicted to LEGO as a kid. I played with it and built new creations up until I was 14/15ish. My parents also bought be "Lego Studios" which got me interested in brickflicking (although that was obviously very primitive and looking back they were awful the ones I made!) At around 15 however, I grew out of LEGO - or certainly forced myself to decide I was too old for it and so I ended up spending the time that I used to play with LEGO on some computer game or other (I lived in a small village so my social life wasn't great until I hit the late teens!) Back in 2009 at 22-23 me and my girlfriend were shopping and went into a toy store for a laugh. Looking at the LEGO I remenised about my old days of playing with it (although might have played down the extent a little!). When we got back to mine I showed her some which I had to hand which we had fun looking through and building with... and I showed her my brickflicks. She thought they were cool and a couple of days later we made one together which was fun. And that could have been an end to it - but then I started searching in the evening for LEGO type things and came across Classic-Pirates.com and ultimately this forum... and then I was hooked again! I found a new stopmotion program and bought a new webcam - and created my first youtube video "Lego Pirates: Rafting, Battling and Commandeering" which received very positive feedback. I then set to work on a brickflick series "Brickington Sails Forth" which again got generally good feedback... and that's been me back into LEGO and Brickflicking ever since! In short, my dark ages were from 2001ish to 2009 so around eight years - how long were yours? Or did you not have any!? P.S. I'm still with my girlfriend and now share a flat with her. The LEGO occupies a large amount of it... much to her annoyance! She's going to do some voices for my latest brickflick later tonight though, so I think I'm converting her!
  9. Well, as in my own head the Islanders aspire to be a bird, naturally they would concentrate on domesticating animals which can fly - as opposed to horses which even our primative islander friends must have noticed, do not .
  10. Thanks for the feedback Foremast Jack! Much appreciated! Hope you enjoy watching the grail - although I have no doubt you will!
  11. Well that's certainly answered my question! I must say I'm surprised Harry Potter is finishing, even without films to work from I thought it would be a popular enough theme to carry on for a good few years after the last film. I'm not convinced Star Wars will disappear so quickly after related films and programs stop being released or re-released. I'm hopeful LOTR wont stay. I'm excited at the prospect of the LOTR sets - its just a pity "classic" medieval/fantasy sets aren't likely to be on the bill for as long as LOTR is around...
  12. I'm a long way behind on this thread but here's my thoughts on the original questions! As said by others, its very open to interpretation and your own imagination really. Personally I wouldnt imagine them as the sort to keep their own livestock and instead they would be hunters - possibly cannibals - depends on whether their the sole inhabitants of the island their on. Stone or wood, in my own island creations they have had wooden huts, but they could equally be made of mud or stone. I think that domesticating horses would probably be beyond the abilities of the classic-islanders. If the islanders had been regularly visited by tradesmen from europe then they might have traded for a decent rowing boat, but otherwise a canoe seems a more likely option. My own interpretation of the islanders can be seen in the below two videos (I've changed video editing program since I made these so apologies about the quality - may be some inspiration however!): Hope that helped! 14. Thanks! Really pleased you enjoyed it so much! And yep, the inbetweeners was one of a number of programmes which I drew inspiration from, along with Blackadder and a bit of Monty Python. I'm currently in the process of planning the next episode which depending on whether my girlfriend will allow me to use a large chunk of the living room floor for a few days, may feature a large-scale naval battle. Will update this thread when filming commences! Duck
  15. I'm with most others here that an ancients theme would be fantastic and a logical place to go following LOTR or even as an aside to it. LOTR fits the medieval and fantasy bill so going immediately back to either afterwards would possibly be seen as a step-back by kids and parents. Ancients would provide a nice yet historical break. Romans would be amazing. Gladiators, Chariot Racing, The Senate along with all the many army possibilities. However there is the whole issue that it would need to be from a purely historical basis and there is no real mythological enemy to fight against - personally I see nothing wrong with a bit of good old history but I cant see TLC going for it. Greek mythology seems the most likely. Personally I cant see LOTR going away for a very long time, given that its such a popular concept and TLC can milk it for all its worth - I dont believe Star Wars or Harry Potter sets are leaving the shelves any time soon?
  16. Yes I can see that its quite ambitious having a crowd, yet at the same time I've witnessed a lot of Gladiatoresque videos on youtube which either have no crowd or a tiny one - so I'm hoping having a large crowd in the background will help to set this apart from the rest slightly. A mechanism would indeed be a good idea - let me know if you ever come up with one! :) Thanks for the feedback!
  17. Hi and welcome to Eurobricks then! That was fantastic! If thats you being sloppy as an animator I cant wait to see it when its up to speed! All the images were really clear also, no blurryness or light issues - something that I myself am plagued by frequently! Also never having seen twilight, thankyou for summing it up for me!
  18. What an immense MOC! Absolubtly stunning!
  19. Hello! Just a quick update to say that this series hasnt been forgotten! I've had a really hectic year having moved house and had quite a lot of other stuff going on and so its been somewhat on the back burner. I fully intend on recommencing filming once I've finished a couple of other smaller projects I've been working on in the meantime, such as my Gladiator film I recently posted the trailer of! I'd guess at a brickington film appearing again in a couple of months - to make up for the fact it will have been a year since the last one, I shall try my best to make it as epic as is physically possible!
  20. Hi folks! Just thought I'd show you something I've been worked on a little while ago and will probably be developing into a proper brickflick once I complete my current project. As the imaginative title cunningly suggests this is a gladiator movie. My original plan was that it would take place in a fantasy/more medieval setting, as when I filmed this a few months back the prospect of having Roman soldiers dotted around was non-existant! However, obviously we now do have Roman soldiers - huzzar! So below is what I filmed a while ago as an experiment to see how gladiators would look in a brickflick and thought it was about time to show people! Warning: Alongside Lego violence, the below video also contains a random swearword in the accompanying tune - you have been warned. (Watch on youtube for "widescreen") All feedback much appreciated!

  22. Thanks for the replies guys! From searching the net, the only real reference I can find for printable roads is here here - which I think was created with the intention of being used for planning road and train layouts. The images aren't of the correct size and so it would probably take a bit of trial and error to get them to print out correctly. As stated by the previous poster, customisation and moving away from the standard lego roads might make for more unique layouts - I guess its how "pure" you wish for the city to feel. An idea with relation to studs which I think would work for straight roads would be to have the road underneath two plain plates and leave a gap inbetween he plates for the road, allowing for a smooth middle and studded sides to the road. However this probably wont look half as good when it comes to corners, but its something of an idea in progress!
  23. Hello there! Now, I'm relatively unknown in this part of the forum - my usual haunt is the pirate area - yarr! However, I've recently developed an interest in the City range, and bought a good few sets (police chase, police prisoner transport, dog van and the small city car)to boost my police force at the weekend. My aim is that I'll make a brickflick (see sig for an example of my work) - possibly a slight pee-take out of GTA and Saints Row. So, moving on to the actual point of the topic. Roads. I have none, bar the baseplate from the ooooooooolllld Police HQ ( 6398 Central Precinct HQ, 1993) which isn't really sufficient for a City. I've got a few bids in on ebay for some - but building up a decent road system from scratch is going to be mightily expensive and I simply dont have the money to go too mad on baseplates. So I was wondering if anyone had ever tried or come across printable versions - similar to all the many many torso-printouts in the minifig customisation workshop, I just wondered if this was a possibility? Apologies if this is seen as a controversial idea, but just thought i'd ask! Duck
  24. After years of my girlfriend taking the mick out of me for my lego hobby, whilst in the Lego store in Liverpool, this set caught her eye and she bought it, saying it was "cute". She loves it (I think she might be hinting at something also). Personally I was delighted at the extra sets of hair that came with it, and so I'm sure those will strangely find their way onto my lego figures heads!
  25. Nice review and guide to the advantages of having such a small car! Picked this little one up today to boost the amount of cars in my city, and its a simple yet effective design! No complaints except that a numberplate sticker would have been nice!
