  1. As for the Red Beard Runner, I bought it from one guy together with 6296 and paid approximately
  2. You can always buy canvas in the shop, there is a variety of colours/patterns/thicknesses, some of them might make great sails.
  3. Sails of thick paper aren't perhaps one of the strongest, but their virtue is that when you have a printer you can make sails with any pattern/colour you want. Just have to remember to remove them while washing your ships :) And when torn, you can always print and cut new ones. I will once again refer to my HMS Progress as an example. Here you can see three custom sails, two of which have Imperial Guards' insignia. I made them by scanning Imperial Flagship's sails and printing the same pattern on my own paper sails, filling the rest of their surface with original Lego sails' canvas colour background. At the back they look the same, just lacking the insignia. As you can see this is an easy way to make any sails you want. I don't recommend using just plain white paper, bacause it looks just like paper and nothing more. But printing a pattern, just a subtle one, resembling fabric, makes the sail look much more realistic.
  4. Fishing boats would be great, we haven't generally seen many civilians to be attacked by the pirates and protected by the soldiers, except for those from the Imperial Trading Post perhaps. Also a huge whale hunters' ship and a whale (a homage to Moby Dick maybe?).
  5. What disturbs me from mixing them together is the different flags they have. Yes, they are a bit similar but different. If they're one faction they should have one flag! I already mentioned the flag problem here
  6. Black Seas Barracuda's fans don't hesitate to vote! We must reach our rightful place.
  7. Like I said, I bought it for parts and minifigs. Still wondering what to do with that torn sail though...
  8. Yes the Spaniards were a great idea, much better than the Islanders. One can say we've only had a demo version of that subtheme - 2 sets plus Armada figures in few other sets like 6296, it could have evolved into something great... Still, my idea of a new line considers Spaniards as a part of it, too bad it's just a dream... :)
  9. This set contains one middle section and I was thinking of ways to male the ship longer without buying more 7075s to have more original sections, but to build an additional custom centre section and somehow integrate it into the hull.
  10. Got mine for an equivalent of about 11,3
  11. Thanks anyway. The reason I asked that question was because I was thinking of buying the 4+ ship and making a minifig scaled ship using its hull - just like in the case of the Dodelijk Klompschoen. BTW have you seen this ship? It uses the 4+ ship's hull with four centre sections! I finally chose Red Beard Runner instead, but the question remains open... :)
  12. This reminds me of my first Barracuda (of the 3 I currently have) I got absolutely free. I once talked to a friend of mine and he said he had a BSB but was no longer into Lego. I said I'd buy it from him and he said "No way, I'm giving it to you!". He assembled it and gave to me and said assembling it again after quite a long time had been a great fun. But that didn't end his dark age AFAIK :) Anyway, you can imagine how happy and grateful I was. Later I invited him and bought some beers as the sign of gratitude, which we both drank. :)
  13. Well, original 7075's cartoony sails would seriously spoil this ship's image.
  14. My first Red Beard Runner will be arriving soon, and I of course will make some major modifications to it (elongating the hull included). Not being able to afford two ships I had to choose between this one and 4+ ship (7075), both of which I don't own yet. I think I made the right decision..
  15. I just ordered one. Can't wait to have another Spanish guy and the cool rare blue-coated pirate, and another skeleton. The pieces will probably right away be used in a MOC.
  16. This silly name would rather fit the original 7075 than this fantastic MOC... :)
  17. This MOC is an example that 7075's hull is not a bad thing. The set itself has a lot of pieces I don't like, but the hull is really worth getting. I'm still wondering if I should get one (I mean the whole set unfortunately, buing only the hull parts would be a great solution but for me it's almost impossible).
  18. Now the custom figures I promised. I have much less redcoats than bluecoats in my collection so to even things up I created some custom redcoat commanders. This is an admiral who is in command of my HMS Progress and can be seen on some pictures of that ship. As you can see I used policeman's torso which doesn't look bad in my opinion. The police bagde may be considered a medal or a decorative motif of some kind. I call this one a commander, but he can be a captain or whatever you want, or an admiral if you give him the admiral's hat. He's my second in command of the HMS Progress and can be spotted aboard her as well. I used fireman's torso for him. Another captain or admiral made using Sam Sinister's torso (from Orient Expedition, as seen in Secret of the Tomb for instance). And now a bonus: Bluecoats' ship's surgeon, made using the medic's torso from Doc Ock's Fusion Lab. I know the light grey pattern was supposed to be jacket's zip, however it may also be considered a decorative ornament. As you can see I've used some parts that represent times after 1800s, however they don't have any specific modern elements and IMO fit here well.
  19. OK, I just wasn't sure no connections = no studholes at all. There could always be studholes that aren't connected (for example to fix the ship to a baseplate - like in the small boats of the classic Pirate line - or whatever). It's here and it doesn't answer my question either :)
  20. It must've been those "pumpkins".
  21. As for the soldiers, Governor Broadside can be already retired (I always imagined him to be old, older than Woodhouse) and there can be another young captain determined to get rid of the pirates once and for all. Or let's just for fun imagine that Broadside got fed up with soldiering or perhaps had enough of Woodhouse giving him orders (whom he never actually liked), deserted from the navy and now is a pirate!
  22. The first link's not working, for me at least... :( I'll post some custom minifigs of mine later when I have some time to take photos, perhaps this will inspire you as well.
  23. If you mean this, I've seen this before and this doesn't answer my question, but thanks for your help.
  24. I know, but are there any studholes on the bottom of the boat anyway?
  25. I have a question about this ship's hull - is there any way to connect the hull sections in other way than this shown in the instructions? I mean, when you want to make the hull longer using some custom centre sections. Connecting the top parts is easy - they have studs, but does the bottom of the hull pieces have any holes for studs or anything? Does anyone have a picture of the bottom side of the hull?
