  1. I thought the hull in Harry Potter's set was grey and black, but I may've seen it incorrectly. I don't think the hull itself looks that bad, but I must admit I have only seen pictures of it, not the real thing (however I'd buy it if I had the chance to get just the hull, not the whole ugly set - I mean Redbeard's ship, well, I can buy the whole set just for some pieces but not at the original price). After all - making a hull like the one of the BSB but a bit wider wouldn't be much of a challenge for Lego designers and it would be great to have something even bigger :)
  2. As I wrote in another topic - Lego could take this 4+ Redbeard's ship's hull, paint it brown (or white, I tend to like white hulls), give it a total of 3 or 4 centre sections and make a magnificent warship with a lot of details, 3 masts, a total of about 10 sails, cargo bays and so on. This could be the best ship ever :) and would cost a fortune :( EDIT: Of course I'm talking about making a System scale ship :)
  3. Of course it would be great, however we mustn't forget that big ships will always be expensive, and that would be stopping many fans from buying them. Personally, I can really wait a few years for new pirates (I know I'm imagining things) and instead see how the Vikings line will evolve - I see great potential in it, but I'd prefer it more realistic - less monsters, more Viking villages, different factions ad so on. Then we can return to pirates...
  4. Future towns, but not from too distant future, rather something like the one in "Back to the Future Part II" - hovercars would be great!!!
  5. As I wrote, I use both new and original ships and the traditional Lego models - if they look good, why cannibalise them?
  6. And that's what I don't like about the original: How are these sailors supposed to turn the mechanism with this white bar on their way? As I wrote, the propellor is a good idea but it's badly placed.
  7. I'm curious - were the reds in command of the blue? Or on the contrary, were they just cannon fodder? As for the Spanish army - since I have only one set with Spanish minifigs (The Armada Flagship), I used them as officers (or maybe just soldiers?). I also used some other cool torsos (from Ninja and Castle sets for example, and some of origin unknown to me) for another Spanish soldiers, and I filled the army with ordinary seamen all of which have this torso: I'll post some pictures of my Spanish army when I have some more free time.
  8. I've used both solutions. Own creations are fun of course, but original models look good too (especially the BSB) and it's always nice to have them. About converting ships - I've done exactly what you said with the Black Seas Barracuda (well, made some other minor modifications as well), but I adapted it for the Spaniards (Imperial Armada).
  9. I agree with you. The soldiers, whatever they were called, have always suffered from lack of big ships in the Lego world. It was because the theme was called Pirates and the bad guys were the main characters and were supposed to be greater power. But it was innacurate and I didn't like it. I think it would've been most fun if all sides had both huge and small ships. I also think they should release a big merchant ship, not the size of the Renegade Runner, more like the Barracuda...
  10. I don't think terrorists are something Lego would REALLY release. Lego is for kids after all. About new lines - I agree with many users that an ancient Greek/Roman theme is an excellent idea, it should combine actual sceneries from ancient times with mythology - with gods, monsters and so on . As a fan of ships I especially vote for Jason and the Argonauts - an ancient big ship, the Argo, would be great! A friend of mine once had a good idea (when he was still a Lego fan - long ago). He suggested a line with spies, secret agents and stuff like that - suitcases with hidden bombs/ladders/helicopters/toothbrushes, cars that turn into planes, and other James Bond kind of toys, and of course beautiful women who seduce our main hero. And one or few main villains.
  11. I have no idea. The wings can fit well, it's just the matter of good placing, but I just don't like the look of them as hatches.
  12. Of course I don't expect it to look very natural, however a more logical design wouldn't be bad. Don't think I don't like the orginal SES - I like it very much. And everything is just a matter of personal taste - I just don't like these hatches and that's it. :)
  13. Hi. Here you can see my Lego versions of some Marvel characters: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=134643 And here are examples: Ghost Rider Morbius Nick Fury Doctor Octopus - this is how I always preferred him, wearing a suit, with sunglasses and a glass of wine, this is how he was drawn by Eric Larsen for example (I'd prefer a white suit but I don't have one) and this version looks better to me than the original Lego version from Spider-Man 2 line. More coming soon...
  14. I wouldn't criticise this line so much. These sets were just made for younger kids and that's all. I wouldn't buy any of them but that doesn't mean they're bad. They are just not my type :) I voted for keeping some of the parts, for example pirate ship's hull would be a great base for a big System scaled ship, the biggest there ever was. They already used it in Harry Potter's line, but it didn't have any centre sections there. One could build a great manowar using this hull's bow and stern and, say, 4 centre sections... Yeah! I wouldn't get that whole 4+ ship but if I had the opportunity to buy only its hull and maybe masts I wouldn't hesitate.
  15. I just want to remind you of this thread. Does anyone have any images of other nations you'd like to see sailing on Lego's seas? I feel a strong urge to create some custom minifigs representing other nationalities and give them one or two of my ships... :)
  16. They don't look natural and if you close them, they don't cover the whole opening - there is free space between the cover and the side of the hull. Some people may not pay attention to this but it looks like unfinished designers' work for me. (see http://www.peeron.com/scans/6286-1/15/ and then http://www.peeron.com/scans/6286-1/16/ )
  17. The Vikings are now available in shops in my country (Poland) as well. I think I'll buy one set for now just to try them out :)
  18. Yes. thanks Hobbes. I wanted to emphasize the differences between this ship and the SES. I didn't like the original hatches. BTW I've just stopped working on a new ship, this time it's my very own creation and should be ready in a few days :)
  19. That's fine with me but is the avatar worth it? :) It took me 2 minutes to take this photo just after I finished taking the pictures of the Barracuda's Eye. I even didn't like it at first :) Perhaps a thread about user's avatars in general is a better idea?
  20. While building this ship I wanted to avoid using yellow bricks. And it has no yellow bricks except for the minifigs and their accesories and the transparent yellow flames :) I think my red-white-grey-black combination makes the ship look more scary and dangerous than the original SES. The reason I didn't build the third mast is because other ships I'm working on need masts too :)
  21. Contra: The Hard Corps. Nice vehicles, monsters, robots... Great game. Also: Mortal Kombat. Warriors and sceneries... I'm not as fond of it as I was 10 years ago - in 1995 I'd buy every Lego MK set if there were any! But it's too graphic for Lego anyway. Sonic The Hegdehog. Sonic minifig might look interesting.
  22. Thanks. I'm stiil not sure if they are negotiating something or what. Just looked good to me :)
  23. Welcome back. I've been to Ukraine and tomorrow I'm giong for another trip - to Polish lakes (maybe even do some sailing on my own, but there are no pirates there as far as I know :) ) Meanwhile I want you to see something that's not actually MOC, but it's made by me nonetheless :) It's called The Barracuda's Eye and the reason I called it that way is simple - I used BSB's hull, masts, some sails and other pieces, mixed them with my other bricks from various sets and themes and then built a ship according to SES's instructions, using totally different colours and changing some features I don't like in the original SES. So it's a bit of a mixture between BSB and SES (however the design resembles the SES). Here is the Brickshelf directory. If not available yet, come back in a few hours, it's still being moderated. Meanwhile you can check out these examples (direct links to pictures): http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Dreamweb...udasEye/be1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Dreamweb...dasEye/be1b.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Dreamweb...dasEye/be3a.jpg I want to focus on the main differences between this model and the SES. Apart of course from the colour scheme, the most noticeable thing is lack of the mizzen mast. I've put Renegade Runner's sail at the stern instead, and as you can see there are seven sails anyway in contrast to SES's six. I've also removed rudder-turning mechanism (I never liked it, good for playing but leaves no room in the cabin) - see here. I replaced the wing-shaped hatches with rectangular ones (preferred by me) - see here. Also the anchor mechanism looks more like the one in the BSB - the SES's propellor unit was good but badly placed (the acces to it was difficult, it was covered by a brick) - see here. Also those passageways with arches were a bit to small (those near the rigging were also badly placed) in the original SES - here the minifigs can actually use them without much trouble, see here and here. I also changed the figurehead - mine is more deadly and scary - see it! Tell my what you think about this modified classic lego model. See ya!
  24. It's a nice thing for Lego Pirates' fans to read and a valuable source of minifig's names, however the story isn't that exciting and one readnig was enough for me (I'm talking about the first comic book, don't know anything about the others).
  25. No, it's there just for easy access to the cabin, just like in the original Black Seas Barracuda. I'll upload some more MOC's when I'm back from holiday :)
