On the other hand, all ships except The Black Seas Barracuda have large and visible Jolly Roger emblems. I prefer the Barracuda because it's much more complex, has all these hatches the SES is missing (well it has those two made of "wing" parts but they look very silly). And I don't like these rotating cannons - good for playing but not realistic. All these holes with arches are in fact too small for the minifigs to get to the other side (to the ratlines for instance), and the "propeller unit" used for raising anchor looks fine but it's located in the worst possible place - covered by a long plank so that the poor guy who's been ordered to raise the anchor will have much difficulty rotating the whole thing. Yes, this fellow is a rare figure (was the Renegade Runner the only set containing him?), I have two of them and gave one of the torsos to a female minifig, it looks cool.

So, assuming we have The British, the Spaniards and perhaps the French in the Pirate line, what other nationalities do you think they could introduce had the theme been reintroduced? Or what other nationalities would you create (have you created) on your own, perhaps you have any ideas how they should look like (using existing minifig parts)?

Sure, but first I'm going to finish another ship I'm working on. The Fort is the very next thing in my queue.

Yes, the Vikings look great comparing to another modern Lego sets (apart from Orient Expedition which is also a nice exception). Perhaps I'll save some money for those, it would be nice to have some new AND interesting Lego creations. Four steps to put a giraffe into a fridge?

A fort, a fortress, a harbour, it depends on how many bricks I will finally use for this and how the project will evolve. Something wrong about it?
-
Actually it was the biggest and most detailed Pirate-related creation I had built by that time (and still is), so that's why I called it that way. But the fort I'm planning to build is going to be bigger (I think) :)

Since I'm from Poland my main source is a website which is a Polish equivalent of Ebay, and where you can find all kinds of Lego. And yes, I sometimes buy complete sets and cannibalise them, and sometimes I purchase just packs of pieces I find especially interesting.

Yes, methodology number one seems very appealing to me. Mister_phes, could you give some links to where you've found these pictures (I mean those of real uniforms)? I'd like to broaden my historical knowlegde about those naval forces we are discussing, perhaps you know some good websites too? Yes, the armada should definitely be considered Spanish, so the question remains if there are three or two naval powers in the Pirate theme (or should I say one and a half, because of the very few Spanish sets released). But they really don't have to be in an alliance :) Yes, I think even adding red sleeves and red epaulettes would do the trick, leaving yellow epaulettes for the Britons. Yes, that would be nice indeed. Plus the continuation of the Spanish subtheme of course. Other ideas I've considered are: mixing bluecoats with redcoats freely as they belong to the same naval force (but what about the flags then?) or dividing them according to ranks, for instance: red coats for officers, blue coats for lower ranks.

I know this is a popular topic causing much confusion, but haven't seen a thread about it here. Do you consider both bluecoats and redcoats British, or are bluecoats French or is it something completely different? My first opinion was that they are both British, but redcoats are those who serve close to Admiral Woodhouse and hence the special colour and slightly different flags. However, recently I tend to think that bluecoats may be French, which would bring more diversity to the Pirate world. I've also seen other options, like considering both of them the same nation, but calling one of them ground troops or port crews, with the other being navy. It would be something like the diversity of uniforms on "Star Trek" - different for ships, different for bases. But this would require remodelling the original Lego sets - for instance, if you consider the reds to be ship crew, you'll have to change the crew and flag of the Caribbean Clipper, as well as replace the crew and flags of the Imperial Trading post with blue ones and so on. Tell me what you think, which option you agree with or do you have any other ideas? I apologise if this has been discussed in some other thread, but I've looked over all the titles and haven't noticed anything like it.

I don't think so, but you never know... Right now I'm rather planning to build new MOCs - another ship which I've already begun constructing and sort of a fortress or a base which is still in my imagination only. And I've got a few other finished MOC ships I'm planning to post links to.

How many bricks? Well, I've never counted but I almost emptied a large bag of bricks building it. I can only say it contains Black Seas Barracuda's hull, so it has three centre sections. It took me about a week, working for about 4 hours every day to buid this. I constructed it about 8 or 9 months ago, and I've made some modifications since then. The last of them was adding a sail, which i did only few days ago. The old version with six sails can be seen here.

Nice test. My score was 86% and a rank of captain! :)

Hi. Here's one of my own Pirate Theme creations: HMS Progress, a British vessel. Sorry about the quality of these pictures but they were shot using a mobile phone, that's the only digital camera I've got. The whole brickshelf folder is here, but those who are interested may want to take a tour first, according to links given below, where the creator describes some particular features :D : So, there she is seen from the starboard side, here's from bow and stern, and here is a view from a top-left angle. As you can see, she has seven sails and two masts. The stern section looks similar to the one of the Black Seas Barracuda and it can be opened in a similar way, giving you access to the captain's quarters from the top and the back. Here you can see the door leading to captain's quarters and the ladder leading to the bridge. There's also a hatch at the bow (forecastle), allowing soldiers to enter their living quarters. The main deck has four hatches that allow soldiers to climb down to the lower deck with six cannons, which can bee seen when you open the whole hinged middle section. When on the lower deck, soldiers can use two doors (the first, and, opposite to it, the second) to enter various compartments: kitchen or armoury or whatever you like. There are four ladders allowing soldiers to climb from the lower deck to the surface and back again. One glimpse at the bridge (the compass is there all right) and that's it. Have a nice day!

Which Official Pirate LEGO Sets Do You Have?
Dreamweb replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
So I am. Hello everybody. Yeah, but I left only one of them in its (almost) original form, it would be boring to have 3 identical ships. I hope to post some of my creations soon but the problem is I only have a digital camera in my mobile phone, so the quality of the pictures won't be striking :( -

Actually it was said in the book that he had a few gray hairs, so that's what i wanted to show. It was also said that his shirt faded a lot so I think that's the right colour :) I think I have a broken minifig hand somewhere in my collection so maybe I'll use it to show his lack of fingers :) About the shave - I agree, but I think he shaved sometimes :)
