  1. Well, I know I've been lazy with this thread but finally it's time to show you another one of my armies. After the French, the British and the Dutch it's time for... the Spaniards! This is BTW my last military faction so far. I still have two pirate factions and some civilians which definitely need cleaning up. Anyway, there they are: What you see here is actually the crew of La Victoria. As usual, the ranks go up from back row to front row, and then from left to right in each row. More pictures in the gallery here, when public. And BTW I'm planning to modify their flagship a little, I never liked the small front sails, I was just too tired after building the whole thing to work on them. It was a mistake I'm going to undo. As I've mentioned, I prefer building several smaller armies rather than one or two huge ones. Now is the time to post a big group picture of the four armies I showed you so far - all of them standing side by side - which I will do in a few days.
  2. Well, I guess it's still better than where the Pirate line is going these days - NOWHERE! *sweet* Yep, those sets look really crappy...
  3. Right. The trick is to separate them for the first time, after that it's easy to put them together and apart again.
  4. Actually you can. The black top hull part from the Flying Time Vessel instead of the grey one should look better :)
  5. What I really like about this ship is: the rigging (Great work! I don't agree with Mr. Hairy Ruben, your rigging looks much better than the original piece used by Lego :-P ), the sails and the stern (Very realistic! I've always had problems with sterns myself!). What I don't like so much is the middle part of the hull and how the black bricks contrast with the grey hull pieces - it's too abrupt and the three layers of black bricks look too "pixelized" (I can't find a better word) in contact with the grey. Lego themselves found a nice solution to this problem by putting one layer in different colour between the two black layers - note the white layer in the Black Seas Barracuda. Perhaps you should try the same? But that's just a minor drawback, apart from that it's a great ship!
  6. Broadside is the man. He's the rarest and the coolest of them all. Redbeard was in too many sets and I'm sort of fed up with him. I think the problem with the Spanish Armada is that the captain remained anonymous until the line was discontinued, so that leaves us with practically no background information about him ;)
  7. Thanks, you were most helpful. I was thinking about Bang for pistols too, but it just sounds a bit too modern to me :) Nevermind, maybe that's just me... ;) If you're refering to the British troops, the guys in black aren't supposed to be targeted by anyone, they're the highest-ranking soldiers who usually sit in an office somewhere and send others into battle. *sweet* So the contrast doesn't really matter :-D
  8. Hello. I just want to say that I haven't forgotten about this thread, I was just busy with some non-Lego activities, and right now I'm having my flat completely repainted etc., so I don't even have access to my Lego at the moment... :P I'll post pictures of my Spanish army as soon as everything is settled. I've seen this book in a shop somewhere! It was translated to my language, but it was the same book nonetheless. I didn't want to start a new thread just yet, so I'll ask here. I'm currently working on a Lego Pirate comic book - a thing I'd mentioned here once before, but since then I actually BEGUN my work :-) I'm having some problems with onomatopoeia though. So here's a request for those who speak English as their native language: what are the best words to use for: - firing a cannon - firing a pistol or a musket (from the age of pirates, not a modern one, I'm pretty sure the sound was different) - one sabre hitting another in a duel - a mast or other wooden construction being broken I mean words such as BAM, BLAM etc. I've been searching the web but with no satisfying results :-/
  9. Yes. What kind of book is that - an ebook or a normal book? :)
  10. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the Dutch... On the left are the soldiers, once again - the lowest ranks are in the back rows, the front row features highest-ranking officers, with rank increasing from left to right. On the right you can see some additional crew - civilian sailors, the chef and the medic. More pictures HERE.
  11. Yes, they're supposed to be underwater and in their "swimming" pose. ;-)
  12. They're really "old style"... Perhaps they'd look even better with old type armless minifigs? :D Great work creating the classic feel!
  13. You might try a toothbrush, some water and soap to get rid of that dust from the wings. This really helps :P The model itself is very nice, it does indeed have some "classic Lego" feel.
  14. You should add a ladder or stairs leading to the top. I think you were inspired by this set: http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6034 I had this one once as well, great little set.
  15. That's a very impressive army. I'm sure the sight of them alone would scare the megabloks out of almost any enemy :) Welcome to Eurobricks.
  16. I think Steve is the rarest... I have two anchor-tatoo guys and no Steve 8-(
  17. Perhaps he wants someone to make a MOC so that he can buy it :)
  18. Hey, look what I just found: :) http://games.fok.nl/news.php?newsid=18770 I wonder what the text says, I don't speak Dutch... :( I'm also curious about the comments... Wonder if they like it ;)
  19. Thanks guys, you rock :)
  20. For me the only real Broadside was always the one from CC, with yellow plume :) That's probably because he was the first one (and for a long time, the only one) I got, and he looked better to me than the one with red plume, from Eldorado Fortress :-D
  21. But it means that I'll have to attack some of my other own minifigs as well :) These are not my design, I saw them a long time ago on Lugnet, and in some MOCs since then, not sure who came up with this idea first.
  22. You mean too small, don't you? And BTW, thanks for mentioning this MOC in the newsletter, I'm really honoured...
  23. Now you can easily make Dr. Lewis Zimmerman :)
  24. That was what I expected too, and that's exactly why I did the opposite... :-D Maybe the admiral didn't age as quickly as the vice-admiral? Or maybe the vice-admiral is older, just never got promoted? Who knows... :P Unpredictability on! :)
  25. Great, I've seen all episodes of Voyager and almost all episodes of all Star Trek series, brings back a lot of good memories! Actually I've been planning to make some ST minifigs myself, but I'd use stickers. Did you paint the head as well using a plain yellow one, or is it just from some minifig I'm not aware of? But Lego never had a Star Trek license, so the yellow face is correct... *sweet*
