An interesting subject it is... So, here's what I put in some of the cabins I made... De Rode Draak Here we can see the captain's quarters (on the left), the first officer's quarters (top) and the second officer's quarters (bottom). Each of them has a bed, the captain also has his own desk. The map on the wall is also present, as well as some decorative elements (note the crystal near the captain's bed). La Victoria Captain's quarters, not much here, just the bed, the desk, and a medieval helmet as a decorative element. The first and second officers' quarters - two beds, a desk and a globe.

Actually, it can be good news or bad news for those of us who want the classic Pirate line raised from the dead. Duplo Pirates failed - so TLC may either think that pirates in general aren't worth any further investment (bad news) or they may think that maybe it's time to try and make some System pirates (in which seeing websites like this one and knowing how popular the old Pirate line still is should help them)... I think both solutions are possible and we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out... (additionally, isn't it kids and their parents, not AFOLS, who buy most sets? - the fact that works against option 2).
-
Seven actually... That's why I widened the hull with triple row of inverted slopes on each side - otherwise it would be too narrow...
-
Well, loosing an eye sometimes happens to non-pirate sailors as well *sweet* Now that I look at this ship after some time has passed (I haven't dismantled it yet :) ) I think the bow sails are a bit too small and out of proportion compared to the rest of the ship - it looks like they can't serve their purpose well being this size. I think I'll try and make bigger ones...
-
Well, actually it doesn't have enough crew. While taking pictures of the interior, I took most of the minifigs from the upper deck and put them on the lower deck :-) I'd say it needs at least 10 more crewmembers. I was considering making printed sails, however I'm short of ink these days and I spent too much money on ink lately anyway. So I decided to make them just plain white. I've seen it on several other ships, including my very own De Rode Draak. I think it is - even the infamous HMS Bounty's mission was to transport a load of breadfruit plantings, so what's one plant in the mess hall compared to that? ;-)

In fact, now that you've mentioned it, I think the images (maybe not this particular one) are slightly too big, but I guess I'll just leave them that way. :-) Well, it was supposed to be female, something like the one of the BSB. But I didn't want to use the female face as I don't have enough of them and I want to spare them for building "real" women... But you're right, it can be considered a man as well, but I kind of like its ambiguity. So I'll just leave it to the imagination of viewers. Yes, that was my thought exactly.

Finally... The folder is now public so feel free to examine it and share your thoughts...

Busy with lots of various things... In fact this ship here was 90% complete a few months ago... But then suddenly I felt exhausted with building it, and I decided to have a break. I felt that if I had rushed things this ship wouldn't have turned out quite the way I wanted. Yes, I know I could have waited for the folder to be public and then start this topic. But I wasn't very patient... Oh, and thanks to yoda601 for helping me find the correct Spanish name for the ship.

55d Hello everyone. Long time no see! It's been some time since I last posted here. But now I'm back and I wish to show you a new MOC - a Spanish frigate. Since historically it was the Spaniards who had the biggest and most powerful ships, it was only logical for me to give the biggest ship I ever built to them... So here she is - La Victoria... If you wish, you can take this quick tour of the vessel, where I show you the things I consider worth noticing. So, let's begin with the figurehead. And before you start complaining about those KK2 swords (they're Viking, actually ;-) ), let me explain. IMO figureheads often represent mythological or fantastic creatures, and these swords have this unrealistic, fantastic look which fits here (actually I think it's the only case where they fit...). This ship has its own brig, located on the upper deck. Right now you can see a British captain who was unlucky to become a POW in there. The ship has a spacious cargo bay with 2 hatches leading to it. It's used for carrying all sorts of goods belonging to the Armada. The sailors can use the hatch on the upper deck and the stairs below it to reach the lower deck. This is the place where the ordinary seamen sleep and dine. Of course the officers have their own mess hall. The meals are prepared in the galley by the one-eyed chef and are delivered to the officers by the steward. The officers' quarters are on the upper floor of the sterncastle - the captain has his own quarters, while the first and second officers live together. These are only the small details I wanted to draw your attention to. You can see the rest in the brickshelf folder. Please don't forget about page 2. Hope you enjoy it!

Someone should make a Pirate chess set, only a lot bigger, with ships instead of minifigs... That would look interesting :-)

About Pirates Of The Caribbean - so far I've only seen the first part, it's not a bad movie but not a great one either... It didn't inspire me to make any MOCs so far :-) But I'm planning to watch the second part soon.
-
Aye it's a great movie. I own it and watch it every now and then. I've read somewhere that this movie is the most accurate depiction of the real mutiny, however I don't know if that's true.

Painting is OK, but it requires additional skills that not every MOCer posseses. I don't think I'd try that - the results might be rahter pathetic... But for those who have the right skills it's a great way to customize their vessels to a completely new degree.

I think you made the right decision. I agree with those who said that IF has a better appearance and is much more realistic. However, the CC is bigger and has a bigger MOCing potential. And the wide hull is simply better. So as a MOCer I would choose the CC. Nay, they both have 2 cannons :-) Right now I have 2 IFs and 2 CCs and if I were to get another one, I'd choose CC. Mainly because of the hull.

What do you do with your ships after you build them?
Dreamweb replied to SkaForHire's topic in LEGO Pirates
First of course I take pictures and show them to the world. Then it depends. If time passes and I still like the MOC, I let it live. If I don't like it anymore, I destroy it. And if I don't destroy the MOC, I often make modifications. I think almost every MOC I showed to you looks a bit different now. Sometimes I take parts from a finished vessel to use them in a new one, like Mr Legeaux, but if I don't want to destroy the previous MOC, I try to replace the bricks I've taken with different ones, sometimes changing the old MOC's design a bit (and this is the main reason why I modify MOCs - because I need their parts for new MOCs). -
Excellent find! One of the best MOC ships I've seen, that's for sure. I like the ropes he used, they look realistic, and the ship looks more original thanks to them, compared to most Lego ships which use standard brick rigging. The making of that rigging must have taken him days, unless he had them already prepared by someone else or there's a fast method of making them which I'm not aware of. The size of the ship and the number of details are just amazing. And the realism! It's probably the most realistic Lego ship I've ever seen. I agree it needs A LOT more crew. I think that's why he didn't put the crew on the rest of the pictures - it would look like a famine or something killed almost everyone and just a few people have survived. And I don't want to sound boring but I'll ask that again - where are the pictures of the interior? Surely a huge ship like that must have a lot of interesting things inside! We only see part of the gun deck on one picture and that's all. I want more! :-P

I'm glad you've finally joined our forum, I enjoyed viewing your MOCs on Lugnet. Some of them in fact have their own threads here as well, started by various users who spotted them and wanted to discuss them. Perhaps now that you're here you might want to say something in those threads too? :-) About the ship - I was considering buying the Durmstrang ship or the 4+ pirate ship to make MOCs out of them for some time, however I finally decided not to as those hull pieces are ugly, and I really don't like their shape - first widening upwards, then getting narrow again. THe 4+ ship at least has a middle section so it doesn't look as square as the HP ship. However, with the ugly square hull and all its weaknesses, you managed to make a vessel which is fun to look at. The design is nice and I can only complain about how Lego made those hull pieces and not about how you used them. And I like those mortars - I was considering using trashcans as weapons myself...
-
I agree it's hard to choose your favourite MOC. Every MOCer has his own unique building style and it's sometimes even hard to compare their creations - some of them are great because they're realistic, while others because they're colourful and decorated, and so on... However, I think my favourite MOC ship so far would be Kurt Baty's RTS LEGOMALEE. I don't think there's a thread about it on our forum, however there's a Lugnet thread here. I must complain though that there are so few pictures of this MOC, and they don't show the interior, so it makes me wonder if there is any. But the overall look is just great, I like the size, the details and the realism.

Theme and set stories from boxes, catalogs, magazines...

So it's not out of place... I was never good at history, thanks for the enlightment! -

OK, so here's the story from the Imperial Flagship's box (note that the first and last paragraphs are the same as in Lagoon Lock-up so I just copied them from your earlier post): During the 18th century, a peaceful colony of settlers enjoying the island treasures they discovered, suddenly had their serenity interrupted. The invaders were those who called themselves the LEGO SYSTEM Pirates of the Sea! For years, the Pirates had been searching for the same buried treasures that the settlers were now claiming as their own. This, of course, disturbed the Pirates, as they knew the doubloons (Spanish gold coins) the settlers found had belonged to their ancestors. Many years ago, a wealthy king summoned the best shipbuilders to design and build what is known as the Imperial Flagship. He called to duty the finest Soldiers to guide his ship on a journey across miles of ocean. Their mission was to retrieve millions of dollars worth of treasure he had hidden on a deserted island. The Soldiers, thinking this an easy task, were not prepared for what was ahead of them. Spotting the royal ship leaving the deserted island, the Pirates knew instantly what the Soldiers were carrying aboard the ship. Will the Soldiers be able to protect the king's royal treasure from the Pirates? Use your imagination to continue the adventures of the LEGO SYSTEM Pirates of the Sea! And BTW aren't those dollars a bit out of place here? ;-) -
I've got a few small sets from old times... They were sold in some shops, and in some marketplaces in my country. I wouldn't buy any of them now, but I was more tolerant in the past ;-) I can post some pictures comparing the Lego pieces with the rip-offs. Some of the shades are slighlty different - the light gray for example. If you are not a Lego extremist you can mix them with Lego light gray to avoid the big gray wall effect and make your gray buildings look more realistic.

That's a very cool poster, I wish I had one. How big is it?

An Imperial Armada MOC - there should be more!

I've seen this one before. It was built by a Polish AFOL I know. He told me he browses Eurobricks sometimes, but I don't know if he's a registered user. -

I think the US sets had stories, while the European/Australian didn't. I've got two Imperial Flagships with boxes, one of which doesn't have a story and has shooting cannons (European) and one with a story and non-shooting cannons (probably US). I'll post the story from the box later when I go back home where the box is. The name Fenzance appeared in Polish catalogues as well, I already mentioned it in the What's in the name... thread. I grew up with captain Roger too, I haven't heard the name Redbeard until when I started looking for Lego Pirate stuff on the internet.
