It's Monday so it's time for Episode 4 - Come Along -
[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
I uploaded Episode 3 - The Uncharted Island yesterday. I shall update the first post accordingly. Those of you who want a typical pirate story will absolutely hate this episode! :-) This episode still belongs to the "introduction" part so there may not be that much action in it either - please be patient! ;-) -
[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
I've never heard about such rule, and I've read quite a few comic books in the past... ;-) Anyway, it's Monday so it's time for the second episode, "Get To Know Me": http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=298128 I've also updated the first post. Hope you enjoy it... -
[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
Thanks. I'm afraid those first episodes tend to have less action and more talking, that's because all the main characters had to be introduced. So of course you're right. The story begins rather "slowly", however there will be more action in the future. Eventually I want this comic to be viewed as a whole, as the episodes have strong connections to each other. But unfortunately for some of you, ;-) the "introduction" part isn't over yet, but please have patience. :-) -

I'm certain there's gonna be a lot more than 2 or 3. :) But I'm really not sure how many... I'll PM you about it soon. -

I don't have the slightest idea, seriously... :-$ -
What's your favourite LEGO Pirate animal?
Dreamweb replied to Col. Whipstick's topic in LEGO Pirates
I think you mean the sawfish. Anyway, I voted for sharks as well. They were my childhood favourites, I love the fact that you can open their mouth and place various body parts inside. :-) -
[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes

Thanks! Thanks, I'll think about that. You'll be happy to know that the second part has less pages. :) Thanks to everyone for their comments. The next episode will appear on Monday, just like the first one. I'll put a link in a new post as soon as it's public. I'll also update the first post which is going to have links to all episodes, just for clarity. -
In this thread I will post links to subsequent episodes of my comic series. Before reading the story itself I suggest you read the introduction. Official LEGO Stories as Printed on Pirates Boxes
Dreamweb replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Pirates
And here's the picture of the story from Imperial Flagship's box: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Dreamweb...hip_-_story.jpg -
As I've already mentioned, the title picture is an exception. The whole story will not have backgorunds like that. I want it to look simple - no special effects or computer-generated bakgrounds. This may look less attractive, but hey, that's just my artistic conception... :-)

Will the Imperial Flagship's status change to "confirmed" when I post a picture of the story? :-) -
Official LEGO Stories as Printed on Pirates Boxes

Check out this thread, I posted the story from Imperial Flagship there. There are a few other stories there as well. -
That's exactly what I'm going to do. This link doesn't seem to work for me. The story will be published on Brickshelf, each "page" will only have one picture. And please remember that the first pictures were taken as early as 2006. Since then I've learned to better operate my digital camera, so the quality of pictures will improve as next episodes appear. So please don't be angry at some blurry pictures in the inital episodes - I was still learning back then! :-)

Hello there. I'd like to introduce you to a comic series I've been working on for some time. I came up with the idea as early as spring 2006. At that time I only wrote some script fragments, took a few pictures but didn't feel up to continuing the whole thing. I returned to it in spring 2007, when I took some more pictures and wrote some more dialogues. Since then I returned to the project every now and then, and now I feel it's time to show you the first results. I don't really need to tell you what the story is about and who the characters are, as it is all revealed as the story goes on. Let's just say for now that it's about en Englishman named Micheal Calloway who, after many years of preparation and saving money, has purchased a ship and can finally make his lifetime's dream come true. And that dream is simple - to explore the ocean, discover new lands, genarally - to see what lies beyond the horizon. Another character is his long time friend, Leonard Garnet, who accompanies him on this bold mission. The ship they're travelling on is a creation of mine which I posted here some time ago - The Valour. That's Mr. Calloway (right) and Mr. Garnet (left). The story is not put in any specific historical time frame. It begins "some time in the 18th century, somewhere in the Caribbean", but no one knows where it will go after that. The story has no historical accuracy - I mean it does not have any connections to historical facts of that time. Of course it is "period specific" - the main characters travel on a ship with sails, not on a submarine, and it happens on Earth with all its lands and nations - but apart from that it's all pure fiction. It will also not always be a typical "pirates and sailors" kind of story. In fact, it will sometimes spoof such stories. However, it will of course use mainly pirate Lego MOC's and even one set. :-) There's one more thing - I don't use any Photoshop effects, computer-generated backgrounds and so on. Just a camera, Lego and MS Paint. I wanted the whole thing to have a "cheap TV series" feel. And perhaps even a "theatrical play" feel. The background is simple - dark blue for water, light blue for sky... It will not look like the title screen showed above - for, you know, it's a title screen so I wanted it to look a bit more fancy. :-) You can also expect a lot of reused images from previous episodes and so on... *sweet* I wanted to concentrate on the story itself rather than on the "special effects". Also, keep in mind that I'm not a skilled photographer. As I've already mentioned, it IS a series. I'll upload the first episode on Monday, about 9 - 10 pm Greenwich Mean Time. It will be uploaded to my Brickshelf folder so of course it won't be public instantly. When it is moderated, I'll create a new thread called "Kings And Queens Of The Sea - Episodes" or something like that, where I'll put a link to that episode. The next episode will be uploaded same time next week, and then the week after that and so on... :) Each time I will put a new link in the "Episodes" thread. There might be - and will be - some gaps longer than a week - unfortunately no one is omnipotent :-) Now that I've explained everything, I really do hope at least some of you will enjoy this comic! I've had a great time working on it so I hope it will be a nice entartainment for some of you! Stay tuned!

As I announced, here's a group pictire of my French, British, Dutch and Spanish armies (from left to right, check the previous posts to see which is which). No battle scenes this time, maybe later :) More pictures: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=287819

Talking about caring for your pirate Lego: see also: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Dreamweb...rious/bath2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Dreamweb...rious/bath3.jpg

Sometimes I use a toothbrush + some liquid soap + warm (but not too warm!) water. Too bad this doesn't help bricks which are simply worn. I don't dismantle MOCs while washing them as it would be hard to put them together again - I never make any sketches or instructions. Although usually in the process of washing with a stream of water from the shower some bricks get separated anyway - there were times I was forced to look at my Brickshelf galleries just to make sure where to attach them. :-) And I do it way too rarely, because I'm too lazy :-)

I agree he looks much better if you change his hat to normal pirate bandana (making him a normal pirate/sailor, not a captain). I'd also change the hook for normal hand as it doesn't fit here very well IMO. This torso also looks good with a female head!
-
I'm not sure about the peg-legged versions from Islander sets as I don't have any of them, but I'm pretty sure that all the normal-legged versions had brown beards. I think the guys at Bricklink made a mistake.
-
Peeron uses the right head, the second picture I posted IS from Peeron. It's Bricklink that shows the wrong face (the picture Lord Of Pies posted is from Bricklink).
-
Actually I think this picture is wrong. Ironhook's beard was brown, not red like Redbeard's. :-D That was one more unique feature of his. At least that's what Peeron says and that's what I remember from purchasing my 2 Renegade Runners. So the correct head should be:

My sig-fig is in fact on my avatar. I've recently decided to return to my old sig-fig, after some time of using a different minifig on the avatar. As I'm a pirate fan, this is of course a pirate-related character, namely the first officer in my British navy. It was very important to me not to make him a captain - I never liked being the most important person in something in real life, hence the choice of the second-in-command for my sig-fig :-) There he is: As you can see he's using a town torso, which makes him distinct from typical blue-coated soldiers, yet IMO fits pretty well.

From which sub-theme do these sets come from?
Dreamweb replied to PiratesLegoFan's topic in LEGO Pirates
If you consider that not every pirate-looking sailor has to be a pirate (like the guy with the bandana from the Imperial Flagship whom I don't consider a pirate), then you may just assume that this set contains an Imperial officer and a sailor who's helping him dig up the treasure. But then one would have to consider that all sets which include pirate-looking minifigs but no pirate flags can actually include normal sailors, and that would completely mess things up :-) -
Actually it should be: Note the difference in piece count: 590, 870 and 865 respectively (or 896 for the Legends re-relaease). Also, the first one has the ugliest sails - they look like they were made using a crayon or something! The first two are using the same "Pirates Series" logo, although it seems it's a different brand (or perhaps the same brand which evolved and changed its name - in that case I'd say the first one is older, and the second one was renamed to be more commercially attractive after the success of Pirates Of The Caribbean. The second one is also much more similar to the original. The first one is the smallest - it uses only 2 midsections, not 3! The hull actually looks like the narrow version (like in the Imperial Flagship), although it may just be an illusion. The masts are also much lower - note the smaller brown rigging pieces.
