2020 Mindstorms set
Lok24 replied to Coder Shah's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, that's a real good explanation. That's may idea as well. Short cables, battery must be loaded in the hub, that's for me two arguments not to buy. -
2020 Mindstorms set
Lok24 replied to Coder Shah's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The "6. moon" starts this year on July 21st, which corresponds to the information in the western world which all says "August" I dont' understand that all. Mindstroms is the theme for the robotic systems since 20 years. Now there is a new mindstorms system after RCX, NXT and EV3. Obviously without a name? And exactly the same as Spike Prime. So why are the two identical themes and more or less sets on the market, realesed within half a year? -

The "6th moon" starts on July 21st 2020, which means the set will be available in August. -

Very true. I had half a dozen of projects, five cannot be build due to short cables. Very poor. -

This was in 2019 and now it works (again). It was an example what happens if you report errors to the Customer Service. Another issue (and seems to be still wrong) is that the acceleration block works very strange (and different on technic hub and smart hub, as far as I remember) The problem always is the FW, and I fear that this won't be better with mindstorms 51515. Ever tried to report the Spike motor angle to a technic hub? -

Sure it works. It worked from the beginning, as many videos and my own experience showed. The functionallity got lost with one update of the FW in Jan 2019. Error: Attaching two sensors or a Boost Motor(=sensor as well) and a color sensor turned off the hub. That worked before the update. The answer was, that this before working function was an accident and no feature. That was corrected with the summer update. And the answer is completely wrong, because that was the promise in the LN announcement in 2018(!): What can be plugged together has to work. It doesnt, until today. There is no central and interested instance at the LEGO site to report to. -
2020 Mindstorms set

That's the point. Having different models and different programs: they can only be identified via a number. Choosing the wrong programm leads usually to a complete crash of your modell. As I usally have >10 programs on an EV3 that makes it difficult. And it's the user interface for the machine. In fact there are very few electronical products without display.... All feedback of users was collected by the LUG ambassadors and sent to to the powered Up team in January. Did you find any answers to that campagne? Is the a list of known issues on the LEGO github site? I think: no and no. I had one error last year and the answer in about 20 mails was: it is not supported to attched boost parts to a powered Up hub. It is not recommended to mix the sets. They didn't even understand the problem. It's completely useless. -

I did that half a year ago with half a dozen PoweredUp errors, programm containing only one or two commands. All documented with videos and program code. Errors can be reproduced, and most of them can be avoided taking another type of hub or another type of motor. Reaction: none, not even a confirmation. -

Part of that you have with the controller of the PoweredUp app, which you can use for the Move Hub and technic Hub as well. -

I don't agree. It is sold for a while for much money to schools, but how should children learn about robotic, if they can't be sure if its's their fault or a buggy software? Just my opinion. And it's not one software, because the Boost/Powered Up is different. -

Yes. The point is: not all models must be robots driving around. Think about a warehouse where you can use the EV3 to display the available goods and navigate through them via the 5 buttons, i.E. -

Yes, but as I wrote I referred to the Scratch-Version. Yes, within the code. But labView offers a documentation tool, where you can add pictures, videos, text, sounds, tables, building instructions and so on to document your work. And that all is part of the project. That ist very different from a note in the code. -

There are some things that are very different from EV3 - battery can only be loaded in the hub - no other batteries can be used - cables are shorter - no user interface to display text or pictures - programms on hub can only be identified via numbers (in standalone mode) Software (as far as I understood from Spike Scratch) - can sounds (except beep) played on the Hub? - CompositeBlocks cannot be shown and stored seperate from main prog - no documention within the project(like LabVIEW does) - software buggy (freezes, has to be restarted) - no "save" function or close without changes, every mistake ot test is saved immediately In my opinion a real bad alternative to the EV3. I've been around the last years on events to let children play and program with the EV3 and the Boost set and recommend it to the families. With my knowledge of today I would not do that with the 51515. -
There was no such effect with the Hubs, and the available motors were getting cheaper last months.

New Technic Motors

But as the new mindstorms is being released in August I don't see any use of connecting the two Systems together. Too many? Just one in new sets. -
New Technic Motors
Lok24 replied to doug72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Both motors are Powerd Up motors, so they work will all the powered Up Hubs (there are 4 of them). Not compatible, and as the EV3 Set will vanish this summer there won't be a cable (they are elctrically completly different) -
Yes, but for those who know about BL it's available for 35,-- €
-
technic Motors and Hub are listed in the shop now.
-
Strange behavior, I work with 3.1 without probs (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6) Yes, that's very important to me too, I turned automatic update off and test always with a special hub not used for events.
-
Corrcect, both is confirmed: Hub 88009 and technic(tm) L Motor 88013 (well known from the Sets 42100 etc.) But there seems to be room for two of the hubs and two motors...
-
Assume the motor has one longest side. If in this axis the cable on one side and the driven axis on the other : linear. Like the PF-Motors, the PU Motors, small mindstorms motors, not the train motors. With an angulared motor you have the driven axis on one of the small sides. It contains a gear to get the 90° between motor axis and driven axis. Like the motors contained in the Spike set or the Large Mindstorm motors.
-
What's a "verticle motor"? But as already mentioned the motor for the 10277 set is 88013, which is (according to Lego) the L-Motor used in the technic Sets "LEGO® POWERED UP TECHNIC™ Large Motor (88013)" Available in the stores as of 1st June 2020, besides the Hub 88012 and the XL Motor 88014 The Volvo is announced with a "horizontal axis" (see below) The 45602 is named "Technic™ Large Angular Motor", without "Spike" in it's name.

The "new" technic hub ist the same as used in 42100 or 42099 (El.Id 6142536), new is just getting them as a part in the shop, same with motors. And the "Boost hub", which is called "Move Hub", but used in the Boost theme, has only two external Ports. You could just use a second "Smart Hub" ("HUB NO. 4")

I did not mean any leaked pictures in the net, the information was posted on 1000Steine by @Dirk1313 , the last paragraph: https://www.1000steine.de/de/gemeinschaft/forum/?entry=1&id=438328#id438328 It is possible to use the remote. If you connect remote and hub you're right. My method is to connect remote and up to three locos/hubs to the app. The complete control of the locos is done via the LEGO remote, smartdevice stays in the pocket The app is used to configure the characteristics of the different motors. For example start-speed, max speed, acceleration , emergency break and so on. Two motors in one loco, one of them running the other direction, is no problem at all with that setup. This could be archived with external programs for a long time and is now possible with the LEGO remote since march.

Yes, I agree. Which hub? We'll see. This is already confirmed, there's a picture on the box ;-)
