Challenge II - Defending Yer Claims! [RESULTS POSTED]
MKJoshA replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Can I re-use a MOC for Cat A in Cat B showing the battle, or does there need to be 2 different MOCs? The two categories seem identical except one shows fighting and the other doesn't.- 92 replies

Two more questions: Do I have to sign up for the EGS somewhere? Or does it just happen as I fill out the webforms in triplicate? Did my introduction "build" count for the 25DBs, or do I need to flesh out the picture more? EDIT: Sorry, more questions. If I build a plantation as a Sea Rat, do I automatically become mayor of Bastion or of a new city on the Nest of Thieves? And if Mayor do I get the 5 DBs at the end of the month for being so? Also, if I build a fort, what is it protecting? Is it advantageous to help build up Bastion or to start my own place?

If I can throw my two cents in regarding BoBS, Kaliphlin Civil War, and AG since I am/was a part of all 3. The faster pace of builds does mean I lose track of what everyone is building. And sometimes people's stories, cool collabs, or amazing builds get missed because I can't keep up with it all. But I love the game mechanics! Being a part of a team is what kept me building for the Civil War, is what keeps me building for AG, and is what drove me to sign up for BoBS. I think BoBS strikes a good balance between quality and quantity. I'm sure there will be improvements as we go along, but I think we are off to a good start.

I'm so glad you approve! It was quite the challenge to take on one of your builds for this contest. But I couldn't pass up the chance to try!

This is a rebuild of Big Sal's Experiment P0B06 Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Date: 4 Janurali 3816. Experiment Code: C3B08. Lead Scientist: Big Sal. Location: Kawashita territory, Greater Direstan. Aim: Award famous Kawashita scientist. Excerpt ends. Greetings fellow scientists! Uh, who are you? I'm Big Sal! The famous mighty Kawashita scientist! Did you just say 'mighty Kawashita'? Yes! That's exactly what I said! Man, after wading through all this water, I could do with a shower! I didn't need to know that, why are you here? I'm here to inspect your project! Fill me in on your latest findings. Hmmm, I don't know about that. I'm still not exactly sure who you are? Yeah, if you're Kawashita, what's today's password? Uhhhh... Hey! Dr Wu asked you a question! Stop mumbling! Ok, you got me. I'm not really a scientist. I'm from the Nobel Prize... I mean Kawashita Statue of Excellence committee! We've been watching Dr Wu and we're very impressed! OHMYGOODNESS! WOOO! Oh, wow, I'm flattered! Yes, it's true! I'm here to conduct our final investigation, so if you could just give me all the details of your work... THIS IS AMAZING! Oh, yes, of course! So, this is our new awesomnium drill and we recently discovered the astounding fact that... Excerpt from the lab book of Big Sal: Results: The trophy was successfully delivered. Conclusions: Dr. Wu can talk forever when you let her. Excerpt ends. OoC: While not as big a base as Big Sal's original build, I tried to capture the same look and feel. I only had 3 dart cannons so I modified the drill as well. And having a smaller base (as well as no raft pieces) I had to leave out Big Sal's boat. I hope the story made up for it!

See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga: Chapter 1 -What Has Past- Chapter 2 -What Has Past- Chapter 3 The Green Dragon Inn Bustle at Treacleheim After weeks on the road, Wyndor and Valanice had finally made it to Budd-apest. The road had not been the safest as Kaliphlin was still facing repercussions from their civil war. Travelers had found it was best not to declare they were for any one side because they never knew when they might meet an overzealous Ulandian or Desert King sympathizer. Wyndor and Valanice adopted this practice as well even though it seemed to them that the Desert King had the most legitimate claim to the guild. They arrived at the gate weary but safe. “We’re here to visit the library” they declared. “And how do we know you aren’t from the High Council come to cause trouble?” asked the mummy guard. “We’re from Mitgardia” began Wyndor, “And we have no allegiance to the High Council. We’ve been facing a plague of terrors across the northern half of our guild and we’ve come to seek answers from the acclaimed library of your fair city.” “Flattery will get you nowhere” was the Masketeer’s reply. “We’re not trying to flatter!” said Valanice. “We really just want any information on the Algus!” Neither guard made any attempt to open the gate so Wyndor and Valanice turned to each other. “What do we do now?” they asked themselves. Just then the gates opened and a captain of the Red Guard stepped out. “What’s all this commotion?” he asked. “Sir,” the mummy replied, “These travelers claim to be on a peaceful mission of knowledge and wish to see the library.” “At ease,” the Red Guard captain answered, “Word has reached me of two Mitgardians looking for answers. I think we can safely allow these travelers into our city.” The captain didn’t say anything else so Wyndor and Valanice followed him in.

Sea Rats: Sign-up and Discussion

Born the 3rd son of well-to-do land owner in Olean, Sinbad was expected to join the clergy as all good 3rd born sons were known to do. His oldest brother was to inherit the land from their father, and the 2nd son was already a person of note in the Olean Navy. And if Sinbad were to follow tradition, he would become a well spoken clergyman. But Sinbad did not believe in the religion of his people, and he did not want to be stuck on land his whole life. His heart yearned for the sea so to the sea he went. The full story is for another time, but after more than one voyage, he ended up on the island known as the Den of Thieves. The island lived up to its name and soon Sinbad found himself penniless. More story to come soon! -
Can someone let me know what class the boat in this topic would be listed as? And if it had 4 cannons, what would it be?

Location: D10 The Hamilton Belt Tags: None Last time, in Ender's story: A Space Saga Begins Is it Mine Mine? Okami Bike Kawashita Hummer Where Was I Supposed to Be? Spaceman Spiff Black Hair, the Pirate Ender was still depressed and although he didn't want to admit it, he was also addicted to the holodeck. He punched up a new program called "Merry Men Adventures" and set off into the imaginary world. The adventure wasn't so merry as Ender found himself playing the part of one of Prince John's unlucky soldiers. "Put him over there!" shouted Little John, "We'll use him for target practice." Ender screamed and yelled, "Computer! End program!" Ender knew he really needed to get this addiction under control. Thankfully he received orders to report to the data center on board the ship he was on. "Ender" the woman began "We have another mission for you." "And by 'we' I assume you mean the Okami Force" answered Ender. "Yes" she answered. "Your orders are on the screen."

I second this question! And how do you become mayor of a city, if you are a Sea Rat? Another question I have: for the free property, are there any limits on it? Can I build a factory or plantation as my first free property, or does it have to be the cheapest, i.e. a residence or artisan?

I would recommend making your choice based on which faction you like best, not which colors you own. You are more likely to build for the team you identify with rather than the one you have the most colors for. And you really don't have to have a lot of the team color, there are lots of ways around it! You could have a ragtag crew that wears any colors, or you could have your sigfig constantly fighting against the opposite factions. Building wise it also challenges you to think outside the box and to learn how to work with a limited building pallet. Notice I didn't name any factions, that's because it doesn't matter which you pick, just have fun with it!

Thank you for the clarification! So, does that mean we all have 2 more days to get our automatic 10db freebuilds in for December? Or are December and January being seen as one month here at the beginning?
-
I believe it's an automatic 10dbs for the first two freebuilds ever, not per month. After that all freebuilds are judged and can earn a max of 7dbs.

Right, but if I build a fort I want it to help my team by placing it strategically. It sounds like I just need to wait for the maps, I think that will answer my question.

One more question on forts. All freebuilds count for DBs whether you licence them or not, right? So I could build a 32x32 fort, licence it as a small fort and then pay for the upgrade, but I could technically make more DBs if I built both the 16x16 and the 32x32, yes? Not planning on that, just trying to understand all the details. As for which team, I haven't officially joined yet and I want to keep my choice a secret! I have some MOCing to do for the next SoNE contest that I need to finish before I jump into something like this And the form I was looking at I believe was here, but it's not there anymore. I guess I just caught it before you changed it.

Thanks for all the answers! In regards to the fort, really I just want to know if I build a 32x32 fort can I licence it under 16x16 and then just pay for the upgrade to 32x32, or do I need to build two different MOCs. And for placement of said fort, I know which islands each nation "owns," but I don't know the names of any cities. At this point does it not matter? I could just submit it (after having earned the DBs of course) and pick a location latter? For me it's more about knowing what kind of story to write with it and location is a big part of that. Lastly, for licencing a ship the options have "sloop," "barge," etc. as options in the form, not Class 1 WR, Class 1 T, etc. Is that an oversight or do we need to have our ship classified as one of the listed options?

Very much so! I just have a little more I think I need clarified. To me, a Junk is the style of ship and can come in many sizes from the size of a yacht to a 10 gun ship. So could I build a smaller, Junk style ship and if so, what size limitations would I need to watch out for to keep in the Class 1 or 2 range? I.E. only 4 guns and no longer than 30 studs.
