  1. This thread deserves a bump after the debut of the Avengers Super Bowl commercial. You may have to log into Facebook and "like" the page to watch the extended version. Jaw, meet floor. http://www.facebook.com/avengers?sk=app_290331777693039
  2. That is an interesting theory about TDKR line. It is true that WB owns DC comics, but who knows how they will treat the movie sets versus the ones based on the comics. Regardless we have about more six months to speculate and Lego is doing a nice job of keeping any information about sets based on the movie under wraps. For those who are wailing and gnashing their teeth about how they think the superheros line will only last for one wave each, I give you the future Marvel movie line up. Iron Man 3 on May 3rd, 2013 Thor 2 on November 15th, 2013 Untitled Marvel 1 on April 4th 2014-rumored to be Cap. 2 Untitled Marvel 2 on May 16th 2014-rumored to be the Shield movie Just like with TDKR I find it hard to believe that Lego would pass on the opportunity to produce toys based on these upcoming movies whose predecessors were commercially successful films. Even if the line doesn't last until 2014, I would expect that we would at least get a few sets based on Iron Man 3, a movie which is sure to make loads of money. On a side note it seems that actor Neal McDonough (who played Dum Dum Dugan in Captain America: The First Avenger)is set to return to some of the future films. That being said, I am crossing my fingers that someday we will get a minifigure based on my favorite Marvel character's likeness.
  3. Bucky would make an interesting figure for a future set. It would be a rather obscure minifig like the Red Robin from the Batcave. No matter how much we nitpick this Superheroes line, we should thank our lucky stars that we aren't saddled with such a horrendous licensed line as this: http://www.blogomatic3000.com/2012/01/24/toyfair-2012-first-pic-of-hasbros-new-kre-o-range-battleship/#.Tx9sloE8ef4 (Shudders)That image will haunt my dreams. Two horrible lines colliding together.
  4. You could read my post above, or you could use google which will give you varying reports as to why my answer is or isn't a load of crap. Anyway, that is part of the fun with new Lego sets, we just have to wait and see! Sometimes if you know too much, it kind of spoils the excitement, like looking at your presents before Christmas.
  5. I agree with you completely. For me by far the biggest disappointment of this line was the decision to make the helicarrier a playset rather than a vehicle similar in size to the Star Destroyer in the Star Wars line. And the inclusion of Maria Hill and some agents would have been a fantastic addition to these sets rather than the multiples of Loki, Thor, and Iron Man. But take heart, there are many more Marvel movies coming out in the years to come, even one based on Shield itself. So there is always a chance that Lego will someday give the helicarrier the full set it deserves. I have to agree with you, and rumors about the Avengers movie point to that additional villain being the Red Skull. Lego did announce that they were making a Nick Fury minifigure, so there is no real reason to keep it under wraps. If they were going to include a Nick Fury figure with these sets, I believe they would have brought it to the toy fair. It's not like the inclusion of Fury would be giving away a part of the movie like the Skrulls would be. Sadly I don't think we are going to see him this round.
  6. From Wired.com 3-D Sonar System Since the Joker does not have a lair or a base, Batman must track the constantly mobile madman through the streets of Gotham. To do this he uses a cowl-mounted sonar device that triangulates the baddies' cellphone signals and then renders the sound of their communication into a 3-D visual map. Real-World Counterparts: Lidar and Sonar Usually utilizing lasers, a Lidar system measures reflected light to find the range, dimensions and other properties of far-off objects. Sonar, of course, is the technology of bouncing sound waves off faraway objects to get a realistic picture of where those objects are. Combine the two, and you've got the 3-D system Batman uses to hunt his quarry. I don't know if that really counters your points, but it is the best I can do when I should be wrapping Christmas presents! Well, shoot, bribe the right traffic officials and you can do anything. Just look at that one man plane that got close to the White House in Washington D.C. and that is a designated no-fly zone where they will shoot your megablocks down if you get too close. But compared to Burton's version with cats licking Selina Kyle and their nine lives flowing into her, Nolan's version is the model of realistic. Besides, with two(count em, two) words I shall shatter your arguments and prove once and for all that Nolan's take on Batman is superior. Just for the complete and utter absence of: BAT-NIPPLES! I rest my case. I have enjoyed this discussion gentlemen. It can be difficult sometimes to have meaningful debates with other members on this forum without someone loosing their cool. This has been a delightful conversation. Merry Christmas gents!
  7. All I want are three sets which probably are going to get made: Oliphant Attacks- with the largest megafigure Lego has ever made. Henneth Annûn with the Rangers of Ithilien and Captain Faramir. Oh, yeah baby! And the most obvious one is Minas Tirith. Sure to be the crown jewel of this line.
  8. Just give me a full-sized Helicarrier from the Avengers. About 1000 pieces at $120 price count. None of this $50 one room playset crap for me thanks.
  9. I will piggy back on that suggestion and offer up the idea of sets based on Full Metal Panic with mecha that would be larger than the previous Exo-Force examples. Heck, I would be happy to see a line of mecha period. But better built than the Exo-Force ones.
  10. If you watch the special edition of TDK it has an interesting extra about the technology used in both of Nolan's movies and how he worked with the Department of Defense and retired CIA to make sure they utilized weapons and tech that either existed already or could exist. And as far as plane getaways: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_surface-to-air_recovery_system But far be it for me to quibble with a fellow educator Good day, gentlemen....er, Merry Christmas!
  11. I agree completely that Nolan has been taking a grounded approach to his version of Batman choosing to have everything as realistic as one can make a movie about a billionaire who dresses up as a bat at night. Burton and his movies are typically demented and a little off-kilter. In my opinion, both styles work well for both directors. I understand that you prefer the latter and due to the power of blu ray you can enjoy Burton and Keaton's campy goodness whenever you want. As for me, I eagerly await the passing of seven months till Nolan's final chapter.
  12. I am sure if you didn't like the other Nolan versions of Batman, it is safe to say that you won't enjoy this one. But for those of us that did, the trailer hints at a fantastic ending. My only complaint is that I can't understand what the heck Bane is saying with his mask on. Although the mask does look kinda freaky, like some snout with fangs. Penguin, I would assume that you would prefer a film that featured your namesake as the villain. Well, if the rumors are true that Warner Brothers wants to use the Batman name to replace Harry Potter as a multi-film franchise (read: like seven or eight additional films, with a new director of course) there is a good chance you will get your wish
  13. While I initially was somewhat skeptical that we were all chasing rumors when this thread opened, I am delighted that this line has truly come to fruition! I love the sets, and while I don't plan on getting all of them, hopefully my shelves will be adorned with at least four of them this coming summer. I respect that everyone has their own opinion about these sets, I am a little surprised at some of the criticism the sets are receiving. They all seem very well done, even in the preliminary stage. Lego has gone out of their way to provide us with a great range of figures as well. The best thing about the sets is that Lego hasn't tried to scale them down to make them more inexpensive like they are doing with the Batman line. Each set is a good realistic size making them more exciting and without going over the top (i.e. like some members' requests for a 5000 piece Helms Deep )
  14. The new Dark Knight Returns trailer is up and it is full of delicious future Lego sets. Bane's (yes, you read that right) Tumbler with a tank turret on top! Some fantastic giant tank/semi hybrid tearing down Gotham. And the crowning jewel of it all, the Batwing. Watch and weep with delight my comrades! http://collider.com/dark-knight-rises-trailer/101772/ Did that not just make your nipples hard? I know mine still are.
  15. I find it very hard to believe that Lego won't take the opportunity to profit from what will undoubtedly be an extremely popular ending to the current Batman movie series in TDKR. Don't forget, its not just Lego who will make bank from sets based on TDKR but Warner Brothers as well. Don't think they won't be pushing the production on such merchandise. On a slightly related note, I just broke down and peeked at the images in this weeks Empire magazine which gives some nice shots of the Tumbler (which appears to belong to Bane this time around) and the fantastic Batwing from TDKR. Both would make fantastic sets and I am budgeting my money to buy both of these already.
  16. I have been waiting for this movie for years! It has been very interesting to follow bits and pieces of its development online. To piggyback on your statement, you would be hard pressed to find ANY si-fi movie or novel that didn't have hints of the John Carter of Mars pulp novels. Avatar was essentially a modern version of the series. About this time last year I had high hopes that Disney and Lego would hook up for this movie and make wonderful sets, but it looks like there is no hope for that right now. Perhaps Lego has felt burned by a lack of success of sets based on live action movies from Disney. Cough(POTC, POP)cough. For those interested here is the first full-length trailer from the movie: http://collider.com/john-carter-movie-trailer-2/129710/
  17. Interesting that they don't list Captain America's cycle. Maybe they just haven't gotten around to it or could it have been incorporated into another set like the Helicarrier Breakout?
  18. I am sure wesker is right and the The Felucian Fighter will be from the upcoming Clone Wars episode. If I remember correctly, there were some pretty big ships hovering around Felucia in one of the trailers so perhaps this is the summer flagship that we are looking for. And while Cavegod is right, this list is very preliminary, I don't see why it should prevent us from speculating. After all, this thread is for pictures and rumors.
  19. That's some good detective work The Brick Rat. Looks like my dream of having the Helicarrier in its full Lego glory has been shot to crap. Fifty bucks is only going to give us a room or two.
  20. It will be worth the wait for both, but it sounds like we will be paying out the nose to own the Avengers in Lego form. Yikes!
  21. Jedi News has an article which has what it claims is a very preliminary list of SW sets for August 2012. I have never heard of anyone having a list this far out, so take this with a massive grain of salt. Desert Skiff Cloud Car Saesee Tiin’s Jedi Starfighter Felucian Fighter The Old Republic Starfighter AT-ST Endor Jabba’s Palace Link to article: http://www.jedinews.co.uk/ Old Republic Starfighter? Is this attached to the MMO game or a hint of whispers about future Star Wars Movies to come? Who knows?
  22. If I can be so arrogant as to pat myself on the back for getting exactly three sets (somewhat) correct with Cap's bike, the QuinJet and the Helicarrier. But Loki's cosmic cube? Even I'm not good enough to predict that one. Kinda dissapointed that the Helicarrier is only $100. I was hoping that it would be comparable in size to the Republic Frigate. My guess is that the reason for the QuinJet $130 price tag is the fact that it will have a Kree or Skull ship to face off against based on the rumors flying around about the movie. And please, please don't let the Helicarrier be a modular set like Home One. Making such an epic ship into a room or two would be a massive fail.
  23. Yeah, I'm not going to lie, that trailer made my nipples hard. Pause it at 53 seconds in and get a nice view of the QuinJet. Sadly no glimpses of the Helicarrier. Looks like Marvel is keeping that one close to the chest. Can you believe that in seven months we are going to get Lego versions of the Avengers? How sweet is that! I do like how they are pushing Robert Downey as the lead. He currently has the biggest name among the other actors and his movies have done the best with the casual fan base. Really excited to see Loki in action, and (as rumor would have it) some shape-shifting green friends....
  24. I have been avoiding posting the massive spoilers (read: bootlegged video and pictures from the movie set) floating around online about the Avengers movie. However, yesterday we Avengers fans good some good news and bad news. First the good news: this week's Entertainment Weekly cover features the Avengers in all their glory. The bad news? It looks like a drunken monkey photoshopped it together. Judge for yourself. http://www.ew.com/ew/inside/ Also, included in that article Marvel gives us a list of their upcoming movie schedule after the Avengers. Some of which we know like Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. Some of which we were waiting for conformation like Ant Man and some of which were just massive speculation before like the Inhumans and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Cool stuff. http://collider.com/marvel-ant-man-guardians-of-the-galaxy-movies/118045/ At this point I am just trying to find anything that will take the bad taste out my mouth from last nights blind buy, Transformers 3. Man, was that one hot mess of a plot? I could have just skipped to the last hour of the film and saved myself 90 minutes of pure crap.
  25. Interesting article about a clone we have been discussing quite a bit around here; Rex. The interview is done with Dee Baker who voices all the clones. In the interview he drops this tidbit: My question has always been what happens to Rex and what happens to Ahsoka - those two characters in particular. There's no way that they can't deal with that in a meaningful and very important way. And that will be happening. And yeah, you start to see that - that Rex is part of the old guard, and the new guard, as Dave said, starts to muddy the waters, so to speak, in terms of the genetics and I think maybe the training. And then they start recruiting people until you end up with the stormtroopers that we see in Episode IV. Interesting that we might see non-clones in Phase II armor this season. Non-clone recruiting was something I always thought only happened after the purge. Here is a link to the article at IGN: http://tv.ign.com/articles/119/1192630p1.html
