  1. Cornelius Murdock, can I ask in what shape were the boxes when you received them from Wal Mart? I am always reluctant to have the bigger sets shipped from anyone but Lego because other companies (Toys R Us, Amazon, Target) seem to have a knack for mangling the hell out of any box bigger than a battle pack.
  2. Nope, not a mistake. I found them in stock at my local Target. Called them up and gave them the online number of the set. They told me they had the Helicarrier set in-stock, just in the back, and assured me they could sell it to me. Even held one for me at the desk. Drove out there all excited and when I got there the guy was all sheepish and told me his boss saw the set out on the table and told him they weren't allowed to sell them until the 8th. I was a bit miffed and quite disappointed but it wasn't worth making a fuss over. The down side is that Target stores will be closed on the 8th, so I am hoping that they might cave and put them out on the 7th. Either that or Wal Mart might have them out on the weekend. What a bummer.
  3. Yeah, it seems like us in the mid-west get the sets later than the east and west coast folks do. So it is kind of nice get a few early. Bah, that's what I get for not looking at your country of origin. Thanks though!
  4. surrideo where did you find the x-men set? After reading some of these posts I am kicking myself for not per-ordering the sets from Wal-Mart. Fear of smashed boxes prevailed and here I wait for the brick and mortar stores to get them in.
  5. Have to agree that Lego tying their sets to cartoons is a great opportunity for us to get obscure (read:fantastic) mini-figs we wouldn't normally get. Doctor Doom would be pure win. Found the Cap. America set today at my friendly local Target (located in Dayton Ohio for those keeping track) I had the boys in red check the back to see if any of the other sets were hidden away. Sadly no, so it sounds like Monday may be the earliest that particular Target would get the other sets.
  6. Oky, find the post which features the Marvel image. Click on all the posts and scroll about a forth of the way down. Someone asked when they would be released and Lego posted back with the April 1st answer. Come on now man, I have been here long enough that you should know I don't post information without making sure it is as accurate as possible. And...it looks like Clone O'P beat me too it. That's what I get for trying to type while feeding a two year old
  7. According to a post from the Lego Company on their official facebook page the sets will be out on April 1st. I assume this is accurate information since it is from Lego itself. Link: http://www.facebook.com/officialLEGOshop?sk=wall
  8. Interesting topic seeing as I just finished my first novel tonight. (Woot!) It took me about two years to write and several versions to perfect. It has always been a dream of mine to write, so after we had our first child and I turned a certain digit with a zero after it, I decided it was high time to start. At the end of a day it can be a great destresser when dealing with a rather hefty profession. It does take a sizable chunk of time away from the Lego hobby though.
  9. Bah, fail on my part. Perhaps a mod would be kind enough to merge both topics? Anyway, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was a dang fine movie and I am excited to see what these two can do with my favorite construction toy.
  10. Well that's what I get for relying on my pedestrian knowledge of Tolken's world and not looking at the trailer spoilers. Anyway it looks like it would make for an exciting set with a little wizard vs. wizard (or not wizard since I am unsure of who Thrain is) action.
  11. I searched for a while on this forum thinking that someone must have surely posted something about this already, but came up empty. So here goes; Warner Brothers has green lit a movie based on our favorite bricks with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the pair who did Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, at the helm. Collider has an interview with the duo where they talk about (supposedly) having some characters from Harry Potter and Batman in Lego form appear in the movie. Some tidbits from the article: “We’re starting production on a Lego movie for Warner Bros. We’re working with this guy Chris McKay who directed Robot Chicken, and he’s our co-director and he’s amazing.” “We’re going out to cast very soon. It’s just playing with LEGOs all day and basically our character design is ‘What if we put this head on this body, and we could give it these legs from this horse’ ” “I will give you one piece of tidbit which is that there are some IP characters, LEGO characters, but we can’t say who they are (laughs). That’s not really a tidbit, but it’s not just all original characters, there are some from other things that you might recognize.” “I would say the vast majority of the film takes place in an immersive all-LEGO environment… It’s going to take place in a universe that’s made entirely out of LEGO to the point where if there’s water or clouds or like a big explosion, that will be made out of animated LEGOs.” Not going to lie, at first I wasn't too excited about this but after reading this article it got my hopes up. Just one question; if Lego produces sets based on the movie, will they be considered licensed sets? 12. Very sad news. Ralph was a visionary and in my eyes just as responsible for creating the universe of Star Wars as Lucas was.
  13. Very true. However Lego doesn't seem to do sets based on books but rather what is seen in the movies, for understandable reasons. Their target audience probably isn't going to pick up a 1,000 page book but rather would watch the movie and be influenced by a scene to purchase a set based on it. Regardless, I see your point since the LOTR movies have a plethora of scenes that are iconic enough for Lego to create sets based upon them. As long as we get a substantial version of Minas Tirth, I will be satisfied with the line.
  14. Due to the upcoming Hobbit movie release (and the future LOTR Lego sets) I was motivated to reread the Hobbit recently. After watching the trailer a few (hundred) times, some things become apparent. The movie will expand on many of the things that Tolken just mentions in the book like Gandalf and his gang of wizard friends going after the Necromancer. Perhaps there is a chance we can have a set based on that since it alludes to a sword fight between Gandalf and the dark wizard in the trailer. There is also the chance that we could get Beorn (the man-bear) in megafigure form. But it sounds like the second movie will contain the most action and that is when I think we will get the best sets like the encounter with Smaug and the Battle of the Five Armies. My only worry with this line is that I am afraid that it will only last until the release of the second Hobbit movie since Lego shows an interest in tying their Licensed themes to the release of movies and not beyond, i.e. Harry Potter and POTC.
  15. That was...holy fu...best trailer ever! Completely insane. That blew my expectations for the movie out of the water. The little alien scooter things do look like the ones from Cap's set, Oky. Too bad Cap's uniform is lacking for choice of a better word. I much prefer his First Avenger look.I am pretty sure that the internal fighting is just part of the team coming together and to give the hero's another "emotional" hurdle to overcome. Because, you know, fighting Loki and a force of warrior space aliens just isn't enough for today's seasoned movie goer. But to see Stark Tower, Thor flying on the wing of a Quinjet, and the Hulk grabbing Iron Man in mid-air...man, my nipples are still tingling.
  16. Sorry, where did you find out the information that the Spiderman set would be $70? Everywhere I look points to it being the same size and price as the Funhouse/Joker's hideout.
  17. Blackpyre, thanks so much for the information. I have been writing a series of books for a few years now and the hardest thing about it is figuring out what steps to take next. Finding a literary agent seems like a bit of an intimidating process. This gives me a few more options, so thanks for the help!
  18. Fantastic, thanks so much Fives!
  19. Well done! If you wouldn't mind, I am curious about the process in which you took to get published. Are you self-published or did you connect with a literary agent?
  20. I hate to ask this but would anyone mind telling me the prices for each set in US dollars? Thanks much in advance!
  21. Some better images of the Marvel sets on FBTB's front page. I declined to look at them but the rest of you heathens can enjoy. http://www.fbtb.net/2012/02/13/more-marvel-set-images/ On a completely different vein, I am a little surprised that Eurobricks doesn't have a greater presence at the European toy fairs with the size of the following on this website.
  22. I have my wife direct me to the Lego aisle I close my eyes and grab blindly. That's how I ended up with three Friend sets last week.
  23. I am one of those weird guys who hates (HATES) to see images of Lego sets before I have them in hand. It's kind of like seeing your Christmas presents before Christmas day. In my mind it ruins the excitement. Obviously I am in the minority here. That being said, I am looking over some of your descriptions of the Avengers sets with one eye closed. And I will be danged if I have come across anyone mentioning Nick Fury being included in a set. Now, I know that Lego are not disclosing some of the minifigures which are coming in the sets for obvious spoiler reasons, but I see no reason why they couldn't include a character we all know will be in the movie. Am I missing something here? Has someone seen our one-eyed friend in a set and I have just been unobservant?
  24. I certainly don't pretend to have some sort of inside information. I just watch certain fan sites for titbits and once in a while something good pops up from a reliable source. From what I understand, and this could be a load of crap, is that Iron Man 3 and Captain America 2 would flesh out the Civil War and how that affects the two sides and Stark and Cap's relationship. Then, Avengers 2 would bring the team back together, with a newcomer or two. The first movie is supposed to set up Tony and Cap on opposite sides, or at least point out the fact that they don't like each other. If you watch the first trailer you can see them snipping at each other. Remember that Marvel has several other movies in the works like Hawkeye and the Black Widow that the could use to extend the civil war conflict. And Marvel is all about using the solo movies to set up the story for the Avengers. But I digress. No mater what happens in the future, seeing the Helicarrier and watching Hulk smash some alien ships will be enough for me.
  25. Rumors are that the Avengers movie will explain how Thor gets back to earth. I mean if Loki can jump off the bridge and make it, then a man with a hammer that makes him fly surely can. I for one am really glad that they didn't use Hawkeye's purple getup. As a huge fan of the Ultimates I was really excited to see them using some of the uniforms from that series in the movie. After watching the trailer two or three (hundred)times, it seemed that they are doing a nice mash-up of the original Avengers comic and the Ultimates with Loki and the alien invasion. During the Avengers tweet Q&A Tom Hiddleston write: By the way… IN THE END, IT WILL BE EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF.And if rumors are to be believed it sounds like Iron Man 3 will touch on the Superhuman Registration Act and the beginnings of the Civil War series where Cap and Shell Head are on opposite sides duking it out. Makes for a potentially compelling ending to the Avengers first movie.
