Heroica RPG - Quest #56: The Stealer of Senses
joeshmoe554 replied to Endgame's topic in The Heroica Archive
Jeaux looked at the guards blocking their path. He knew they had been given orders to kill on sight, but they were obviously under some sort of spell or hypnosis impairing their judgement and reasoning. He hoped that one of the deceptive rogues in their party could craft a convincing lie, or perhaps the knight might be able to use the inherent trust others seemed to place on him to negotiate safe passage. Jeaux would prefer not to harm these men who were so obviously confused. -

Jeaux held his breath in anticipation of what Karie could see just around the bend. What evil menace would they have to face next. -

"Either way, if what I heard was correct one of the 2 men speaking walked away. I'm guessing we will most likely be facing 1 or more guards around this bend." Jeaux retrieved an arrow from his quiver and prepared himself for battle. If the party managed to maintain the element of surprise, they may be able to take out these new foes before they even knew what hit them. -
Your information is correct, the party update in the quest thread had 30 gold instead of 20.

I'm really liking the quest so far, and I'm curious what else that weapon can steal, our sense of speech (Sealed), our sense of reasoning (Confused), our sense of courage(Afraid)? Whatever the case, I have a feeling that remedy will be useful before the quest is complete. Also, I hate to take loot away from a fellow party member, but I think Karie should have 20 gold at the moment, (She spent her initial 10 on a bedroll and venom, and received 20 from the last fight.)

Heroica RPG - Quest #56: The Stealer of Senses

Jeaux's surface quickly took on the dark appearance it had before, and the automaton replied, "I Like it! It shows ingenuity, thinking outside the box! The only thing wrong with that plan is our current lack of a mage, but we can figure that part out later. As I like to say, leap before you look!" The shadow faded as Jeaux began to think, the party could continue to try obtaining the key using their current method, and seeing as that has been described as the definition of insanity it would most likely be appropriate. Though there was most likely a better way. He could try coating the inside of the cymbal apparatus with the same adhesive material that was already on the outside. He took the stalk of the Cymbalroot plant and carefully applied the some of the oozing substance to the inside and edge of the cymbals, then proceeded to try again for the key. -

"Well it would seem an arrow lacks the surface area to create a solid bond with the key. Perhaps if we try it with the bud of this unique plant?" Jeaux unties the rope from his arrow and secures it tightly to the head of the Cymbalroot. He then tosses the head at the key hoping to catch it in between the vegetable cymbals. -
Decisions Decisions.

Jeaux takes the recently fasioned rope and ties it off on one of his arrows. He then coats the arrow in the sticky sap resin from the recently deceased shrubbery. He fires this new retrieval device at the key on the far wall. Aiming the arrow for gap in the handle of the key ring. -

The rogue Karie had finally calmed down. It was obvious from her behavior that captivity was not something she handled well, and the recent spat had only aggravated the problem. Perhaps it would be best if the party rested first before attempting any escape. OOC: Can we rest here, or will the Poacher of Passion (I kind of like that name ) return too quickly? Or will we just have to find out? -
Apparently you and I have different definitions when it comes to casually tossing things. Though worked out all the same. On another subject, for RP purposes how do the residents of Olegaia measure distance? Feet, Meters, Studs, Hands, or some other form of measurement?

Jeaux test had been successful, it seemed there was no magic fields or walls holding them inside, simply the bars of their cell. He could see a key, possibly the one that might lead to their escape, dangling from the opposing wall. He judged the distance at half again more than his own height. Much too far for any of them to reach with their arms, but perhaps there might be another way to retrieve it. He addressed both rogues "Can either of you attempt to pick the lock?" While waiting for an answer Jeaux inspected the lengths of web he had found before to see if he might be able to fashion a rope with them and how long it would be. -

OOC: I thought both max health and current health increased by 1 when leveling up. Jeaux started to hand out the spoils of the party's victory. He gave 20 gold to Karie and Sir Brickington, 15 gold and a potion each to Arnulf and Em, and kept the remedy and the remaining 10 gold for himself Defeating these most recent foes had given Jeaux a feeling of triumph before he remembered where they were. The dank prison cell and apparent hopelessness of their situation quickly sapped the wind from his sails and dampened his spirits. He looked through the bars at their kidnapper, a smug smiling sitting upon his face. Jeaux would love nothing more than to wipe that smirk off the man or better yet pierce it with one of his arrows. Jeaux glanced at his quiver as the thought crossed his mind. What kind of kidnapper would let his victims keep their weapons? Especially ones that could quite easily reach a foe through these prison bars. Jeaux retreated to the opposite side of the cell and slouched against the wall. Hanging his head in a look of defeat he scanned the floor for any small pebbles or pieces of debris from their recent skirmish, then casually tossed the item at the bars across from him. -

Good catch, I had completely missed this.

OOC: And that is why we should focus on the plant. Again 3 people on the plant and 1 person on the spider. Jeaux heard the clash of the cymbals a second time, but it did not seem to bother him this time. It seemed the cymbal attack was directed at one of his companions. That shrubbery would pay for assaulting his companions. He drew his arrow and attacked the Cymbalroot from the back row. Party Order: Jeaux Brickington Arnulf Karie -

OOC: Nobody has gotten a successful attack on the weeping widow yet. One person should attack the weeping widow and everyone else focus on the Cymbalroot. Once the plant is dead all attacks will be redirected at the weeping widow, and any special damage from the weeping widow will only heal itself since both allies will already be defeated. Jeaux clasped his hands to his ears. The sonic vibrations from the foliage crafted symbols rattled his senses and made the room seem like it was spinning. Party Order: Em Arnulf Brickington Karie -

Endgame, that Cymbalroot plant is awesome. I love the special attack you gave it. And don't worry about us. Life happens, just try to stay safe and I hope the blizzard doesn't do too much damage to the area.

OOC: Arnolf: Using an item uses your turn and you should probably still specify which row your character is in when taking that action (The back row). Brickington: You can't attack something with venom, you instead apply it to your weapon adding the poisoned effect for the rest of the battle. I would save that for now seeing as we should be able to finish these opponents with relative ease. All: I'm thinking same thing as last time, except Arnulf uses a potion instead of attacking. Jeaux's arrow had found its mark in the cool jazz plant. He nocked another arrow and fired the killing shot at the plant from the back row. He shouted to his party, "Heal yourselves, then press the attack!" Party Order: Brickington Arnulf Jeaux Em Karie -

Jeaux retreats to the bars of the cell, trying to put as much distance between himself and these foes as possible, but not before nocking an arrow in his bow. He aims his shot at the Cymbalroot from the back row, and shouts out orders to the rest of the party. Party Order: Brickington Jeaux Arnulf Em Karie OOC: Brickington, I think it would be better if you attacked the highest level foe (Warring Widow) since you can take the most damage having 10 health and a shield. -

Jeaux awoke with a start, He and his party had been kidnapped by the green-clad man in the forest and were now locked in a kind of prison. Though listening to their recent captor, a cage would be a more apt description. As Jeaux got to his feet the pearl white surface of his face began to darken. A shadow was appearing, though unlike before it was not forming a discrete shape. Instead it began to cover his entire form, until his surface was the color of night. "Seriously? you call yourself the Apprentice of the Stealer of Senses. Have you ever thought of just referring to yourself by the acronym to save time? Or perhaps come up with a good name like "Padawan of Pandamonium exclamation point" or even the "Poacher of Passion exclamation point". Try to use some aliteration and definitely include the exclamation point. Those make everything better." "Oh, I suppose we weren't decieved, attacked, and kidnapped. You just invited us over for brunch and must have misplaced your copy of Edna's guide to ettiquite. In that case I'd like some tea and a couple of those little cucumber sandwitches. No Mayo though, makes my gears itch." "That's not going to work for me. I demand 3 meals a day and a 30 minute smoke break or we're going on strike, or didn't you know. I happen to be a proud member of the local Lab Rats Union #403, and good luck trying to convince some non-union laborours to do the work. They all took off when the cheese rations switched from Gouda to Blue." The dark shadow seemed to disappear as Jeaux's mock skin shifted back to the white color it had been before. He looked around somewhat groggy and confused. "Where are we?" He asked his other party members, hoping they had managed to gather some information while he was still coming to. OOC: Yet another crazy hero to join the ranks -

Jeaux was taken aback by this new development. It seemed his instincts were right after all, the man the spider had described was not a friendly soul. Though he did not seem to be your common thief either. The weapon he held was unlike anything Jeaux had seen before and appeared far too unwieldy for untrained hands. The suspicious individual also made no mention of robbing them as most criminals one encounters at night seem to do, he instead wanted to run "Tests"? "I'm guessing your name is not Allen Lias and you have no affiliation with the town watch. Did you fabricate a story and pose as an employer of Heroica just to lead us to an ambush? And what pray tell would we be test subjects for?" Jeaux then addressed the party, "Perhaps my questions would hold more weight if our resident knight were to ask them with an air of diplomacy." -

Not hearing any objections, Jeaux heads deeper into passage with the rest of the party. Em seemed to be inspecting the ground for tracks, perhaps he was worried about what the spider had said or simply being paranoid. Either way it never hurt to be a little extra careful, an unseen trap can be quite dangerous and checking your environment <OOC>Especially the ceiling</OOC> before making a rash decision can mean the difference between the spoils of victory and the shame of defeat. OOC: It seems the majority of the group is ready to move on, if you find anything emjajoas, I doubt it will be time sensitive so we should be able to figure out what it means later. -

"I wouldn't know, and to be completely honest I'm not quite sure how that is relevant at the moment." Jeaux relayed what the spider had said to the rest of the party. It seemed that they and their employer were not the only ones in the passage this evening, though why should that surprise anyone. Eubric was a large city after all and this was a public area, open to everyone. Why shouldn't there be others here simply enjoying the scenery. As the cordial spider had said, this part of Eubric typically experienced less crime than the rest of the city, so it was probably nothing. Probably... "As we have all arrived, it would only be polite to not keep our employer waiting, unless someone has a reason to stay here for a while longer."
