It makes more sense if you want to avoid any sort of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. If you don't mind a temporal pocket or a couple of paradoxes, it really isn't so bad.

"My humblest apologies, I didn't even think to introduce myself. My name is Jeaux Elmfyre, but please feel free to call me Jeaux. You mentioned that you were pretty sure one of the voices you heard was your mother. If I were you, I would try to focus on that voice as I believe it is the most likely to lead you in the right direction. Though it would still be wise to exercise caution. If these are voices from those who have passed on from existence then you are dealing with strong magic, and in those circumstances, one should always tread lightly. Magic can be a tool for both great deeds and terrible ones and it can often be difficult to discern which you are dealing with."

Ok, put together a simple story framework last night, now to start detailing the fights.

Jeaux was unsure how to respond. Hearing the voices of the dead typically wasn't a good thing, but as distraught as Nessa seemed to be, saying that would do little to improve the situation. "I wish I could say. As to whether or not you're crazy, I would not be so quick to jump to that conclusion. I've read many reports of people's souls surviving beyond death, either as ghosts or tethered to their former body. The idea that your mother could be speaking to you beyond the grave is not an impossibility in a world with magics such as these. What do these voices have to say? They may hold some of the answers that you seek."

As Nessa did not seem quite ready to talk at the moment, Jeaux took a quick stroll over to the quest board to see if there had been any recent updates. He saw 2 new notices requesting the aid of Heroica. Jeaux took the quill, that usually set near the board and signed his name on both, before returning to see if Nessa might have summoned the courage to express why she still felt such discomfort. Jeaux signs up for quests 61 and 62

The only shields I own are Fright Knight shields. I've been thinking of aligning the character with Shadeaux just so if I decide to roll a warden, I'll have a faction appropriate shield.

"Naw I'm about as flammable as a wet piece of ice. I treated this dummy with an asbestos based stain years ago. Darn thing kept going up in flames every time I tried to do the ring of fire routine. Then the automation would screw up and he'd start setting the guests on fire, it was hell on my insurance and didn't help score many referrals either. I figured making him a bit more flame retardant was probably a good investment." "Wow, them's the breaks I guess. This is a bit outside my area of expertise so I'm gonna tag out and let Mr. Mopey pants handle this one." Jeaux's appearance began to shift back to the off-white it had been before. He looked at the female elf and could see the pain in her eyes. He had once heard someone remark that it was better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all, but at the moment, that hardly seemed the case. Jeaux may not remember his past, or the people he had once been close to, but at least he did not have to feel the pain of their loss that so many others experienced. "Losing your family must have been hard on you, and losing that last link to your mother doubly so, but you've found the gem and the one who stole it. Shouldn't that bring you some level of comfort?"

Jeaux's face was eclipsed by a dark shadow. The shadow spread over his entire form until every visible part of his wooden frame was no longer the eggshell white it had once been, but as dark as night. The automaton spoke again, with a slightly different tone to his voice, "Forget it deary, that pancake is one muffin short of a baker's dozen. Can you believe he still thinks he's made of squishy bits and smelly stuff. I've seen people try to tell him otherwise time and time again, but when you're as much in denial as him, you're basically stuck up river without a paddle. As to your question, this body is a toy, a trick used by me back in the day during my act. You see, I was the great Nilrem the magnificent" As the automaton said this, he made a grand over-exaggerated gesture with his arms. "and this puppet was part of my stage act. It was pretty cool, I'd saw him in half and then recarve his torso from some new wood, really quite impressive. I was all the rage at kid's birthdays. Bought him from a junk merchant for 2 gold and a chicken head, never thought I'd find myself stuck inside him, or the better part of myself in any case, but that's life ain't it. One minute you're a great stage magician and the next you're a doll. Now what's up with ya?"

So much for no excuses . Consider this a valuable lesson, never trust the QM/Moderator to not make a mistake as they are after all human, and therefore fallible. Checking the battle results can often be beneficial.

I really like the Huey, Dewey, and Louie characters so far JimB, and I think those names definitely seem to fit the personalities. I also want to thank you for bringing back Triple Magic. That just might be my favorite creation I've seen in Heroica so far.

An black exclamation point appeared on the smooth, featureless surface that composed Jeaux's face. "I beg your pardon! The fact that I have demonstrate tact in my interactions, something that obviously escapes yourself, does not make me wooden as you say."
-
This was not the first time Jeaux had someone say he wasn't human. People had often used terms like cold or callous to describe him and more than once treated him as if he were not even a person, but this was different. While most people meant those terms as insults, this elf almost seemed to be complimenting him. "That's an odd way to phrase your question but. I suppose I would say that I once was a ranger of the forest, and am now a hero of Heroica. Does that answer your query or is there something more specific you would like to know?" Jeaux felt like the elf was reaching for some sort of specific information, but he was unsure what it might be.
-
Jeaux looked in the direction of the voice. It was the woman who had cried out earlier. "Of course". Jeaux followed her to a table and sat down. "What's on your mind?"
-
"I think we have not seen the last of him. He is unquestionably smarter than his younger cousin, which is both a good and bad thing. I doubt there will be any more pointless violence or wanton bloodshed, though he will also be far more difficult to track down and stop. I'm also curious what his final plans are. He has a hatred of Eubric and the patience plus intelligence to do a significant amount of damage. I believe it would be prudent for us to work on our fighting ability so the next time we meet, we will not be so grievously outmatched." Jeaux took a sip from his glass, and addressed Sir Brickington again, "As for our actions in the end. Do not feel too guilty about it. The town watch was already injured after our battle, and if the Stealer had attempted to incapacitate them, it could have very well killed them. We were able to do so peacefully and get everyone out of that prison. We were also able to relay what we had learned back to Heroica in order so we might begin preparations for whatever his plans may be. If I had felt there was chance of us stopping him, I would have taken it, but the difference in our abilities was quite clear. There would have been nothing gained by falling in battle."
-
Jeaux joined Sir Brickington at the bar and ordered a whiskey neat., "So how are you feeling about our last quest? You seemed to be hesitant at end, unsure of what to do."
-
Jeaux walked over to the stunned Sir Brickington and helped him back to his feet. "A good duel sir knight, you fought honorably. Perhaps, you'd care to share a drink back at the hall."
-
"Not long now", once again Jeaux attacks Sir Brickington from the back row.
-
"A lucky strike, it will not happen again." Jeaux attacks Sir Brickington from the back row.
-
Jeaux attacks once again from the back row.
-
Jeaux brings Eminus to bear, and fires an arrow at Sir Brickington from the back row.
-
I accept your challenge.
-
"I'll gladly join you in the area, Sir Brickington."
-
Jeaux noticed one of the people in the hall was scurrying on the ground. He seemed to be experiencing a rather vivid hallucination. If the automaton had to guess, the man was most likely strung out of his mind on Hippocamp tears. When even junkies could call themselves heroes, the hall might need to start employing a better vetting process. Jeaux had a feeling the knight was keeping a few things to himself. Most of the people here had left their old lives behind and that was not an easy thing to do, unless there was no life to go back to. In Jeaux's case that was quite literally the case, but for others... it seemed the hardships they had suffered made it easier to start anew than live with the pain.

"There's not much to tell really. About a year ago an eccentric old wizard found me lying on the side of the road, barely alive. He used some sort of spell to save my life, I don't really know the details, but when I woke I found most of my memories to be out of reach. I know that I grew up in the forest, and I can remember pieces of my life, but they're fuzzy. Any time I try to focus on something it becomes harder and harder to see. When I saw how the Stealer was able to manipulate people's memories I thought I might have finally found something that could help me remember, but it seems that power is beyond even his knowledge." Jeaux looked to the floor, somewhat dismayed. It wasn't easy talking about his past, or lack there of. "But enough about me. From what you've said in conversations, it seems you've had a rather interesting past yourself, especially for someone so young."
-
Jeaux noticed Brickington looking around the hall. Jeaux called to him, "Looking for something?"
