Jeaux walks over to Smokebeard's smithy where he sells his old bow for 15 gold before picking up a new one for 50 gold. As Jeaux took the new weapon he, decided it deserved a new name. He thought for a moment before carving the name Eminus into the handle with one of the arrows from his quiver. Jeaux then headed to the fashion shop where he bought a rangers quiver for 20 gold. (130 + 15 = 145 - 50 = 95 - 20 = 75) Jeaux returned to the hall with 75 gold remaining in his pockets.

Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.

I'm good being the bad guy. Like I said, from what Jeaux knew at the time, he made what he considered to be the best decision for all involved. I had a nagging feeling we may have gotten an extra potion or two somewhere so I looked back over the quest. It seems we started with 6 potions, got 4 from battles, used 11 and had 2 left over. So I wouldn't worry too much about there being a lack of loot.

For some reason the following popped into my head when I read that last line. Follow the center road Follow the center road Follow follow follow follow, follow the center road We're off to find the dumb kid, the dumb kid who is now a frog He's probably quite green and smelly, smelly like a bog. I wouldn't be very surprised to see him sitting upon a log. a log, a log, a log, a log, a log, a log that's sitting in a bog. We're off to find the dumb kid, the dumb kid who is now a frog

Jeaux strolled into the Hall and headed to the bar. Whatever their opponent had done, had left him with a rather serious headache. He ordered a glass of whiskey, hoping it might do something to help settle his head, hair of the dog and all that. The hall look far busier than when he had first arrived. In one corner he could see Brickington and Karie talking with a hero he had not encountered before.

Terrific quest Endgame. The villains were both engaging and I look forward to finding out the rest of the Stealer's plan. The Apprentice, while short lived, was a fairly solid character. It's a little impressive you were able to fit a back story and a personality into so little space, but you did a fairly good job of accomplishing both. The lack of a cleric made things a little difficult since the party had to rely on potions for all of our healing, thankfully we somehow managed to have enough potions to stay alive till the end, or at least most of us did (Sorry Em) Also terrific work on the scenes. I just started playing with LDD a couple days ago and working with a digital tool takes a special talent that you seem to have in abundance. EDIT: As to the ending, I'm not sure I got the feeling I think you were going for. I only saw 3 possible outcomes for the party at the end. We could stun the town watch and steal their memory for a day (given the knowledge we had at the time), we could fight the Stealer and lose in which case, I think the fate of the watchmen would have been much worse, or we could have fought and won, which I figured was highly unlikely. Given the option and the slim chance at victory, it seemed the best thing to do for both us and the town watch was to "betray" them. Even knowing the Stealer lied and we took more than 1 day, any better outcome would have been extremely unlikely. It seemed like you wanted us to feel bad for acting in our own self-interest, when our actions were most likely the best for all involved. Though it could just be me, as I tend to compare options by weighing the different outcomes by the probability of that outcome occurring.

Heroica RPG - Quest #56: The Stealer of Senses

Jeaux felt that the man before them was not the bluffing type and in a straight up fight, the probability was high his party would not be the victors. "I have no qualms with what you are proposing, though I cannot make any promises regarding the future. We had no intention of meddling in your plans in the first place and the town watch were merely investigating reports of strange activities. If their memories are wiped, there is nothing to prevent them from returning if those same reports are made one more, and they may really try to employ the assistance of Heroica once again. I will wipe the guards memory but I would suggest, if you wish to remain undisturbed, you try to keep a low profile from this day forward." OOC: Just to be clear, that is a vote for yes. at the mention of memories a thought crossed Jeaux's mind. "You say you have the ability to steal one's memories, might you also have the ability to restore what was once stolen?" -
I still see it as nothing to lose, and I'm a bit curious what his stats are. I'm good with whatever the rest of the party decides, a hopeless battle with almost certain death isn't very practical, but it can be fun in its own twisted way.

Heroica RPG - Quest #56: The Stealer of Senses

"What the rogue said is true. Your cousin was unbalanced. I hold no anger towards him and I hope that in death he finally finds the peace that must have evaded him in life. If you wish to fight us then so be it, but I fail to see what it would accomplish at this point." Jeaux looked at the purple clad newcomer. The weapon he held still had a slight glow emanating from it. Likely a result of the power it had gained from consuming the senses of the late apprentice. -
If I've interpreted the rules correctly. Then in the event that we fight him and die, we will all be returned to the hall, and will have failed the quest. Since we already received the quest reward, there may be absolutely 0 negative consequences to fighting him, other than the humiliation of being KO'ed of course.
-
I kind of like the idea of walking away while the Apprentice is screaming bloody murder and bleeding to death. As for his cousin, the Stealer of Senses, I don't think we'll get an opportunity to "take care of" him since the previous battle was listed as the Final Battle. If there is another battle, then the QM would have lied to us, and what kind of QM would lie to his players.

Jeaux wasn't sure if the Apprentice was telling the truth or if his words were merely a delusion, attributed to that over-inflated ego he seemed to flaunt. It was probably better to err on the side of caution in this case. Jeaux fired an arrow at the weapon hoping to dismantle it from a distance, so it would do no more harm to this world. He then walked to the equipment in the room to inspect the vials he had seen earlier. -

Jeaux distributes the rewards from the battle with the rest of his companions. He gives each of them 30 gold plus one of the pouches containing 70 gold for a total of 100 gold per person. To Sir Brickington, he gives the Soma. The knight had done his part protecting the party from damage (even if he never managed to use sentinel ) and the Soma should help him continue to be a shield for those he wishes to protect. To Em, he gives a potion and the Nostrum. After the last few battles it seemed the range could do with a little more luck. To Karie, he gave the Mead. As unstable as the rogue seemed to be, she had allied herself with them through the end. To Arnulf, he gave a potion and a venom. And finally he kept the last venom for himself. He looked down at the Apprentice. The man was a sorry sight, while he may have been intimidating before, he was merely a raving lunatic now. Jeaux addressed the rest of the party, "What do you think we should do with him. Personally, I think the town watch would be very interested in taking him prisoner, seeing as he essentially did the same to their men. He attacked us all though and I think each should have a say in his fate." EDIT: While waiting for his party's reply Jeaux takes a closer look at the mysterious weapon their ex-captor had utilized. -

"Good to have you back to your old self." Jeaux tells Karie, "Now let's show these last three what heroes are made of. Brickington and Arnulf, you might want to take care of those injuries before continuing the fight. Everyone else watch your health, now that we don't have a spare phoenix essence, if you're down, you're down for good." Jeaux fired another arrow at the Histicuffs from the back row. OOC: Brickington, if you choose not to heal please do not attack the Apprentice this round. I'm putting you first in the battle order so you can take the free hit from the Vipunch, and if you trigger the apprentice's special damage it would kill Arnulf before he gets a chance to heal. Party Order: Brickington Arnulf Jeaux Em Karie -
You are correct! The QM didn't list the hexed status on the heroes so I missed it in the search. I take it back, it has happened quite a few times before then.
-
Like I said, second one hexed while fighting enemy NPCs. I was able to find 1 hero that had been hexed in PvP, and 1 hero hexed while that hero appeared to be an enemy NPC, but that battle looked a little complicated so I didn't get too deep into it. There may have been a couple more, but I was skipping through it pretty fast since Haldor's Paper Doll generated 20 pages of search results.
-
I don't see why we couldn't knock him out instead of killing him. Personally, I'd rather do that since he may be able to provide us with more information on his master, the Stealer of Senses. I did a search on the hexed effect and in the one and only occurrence I could find where a hero was hexed while fighting enemy NPCs, congrats on being number 2, the hero could act after the remedy was applied. Heroica RPG - Quest #56: The Stealer of Senses

Darkness surrounded Jeaux. It was all he could see in every direction, an inky black darkness. It felt somehow familiar to him, but he was having some trouble placing it. Perhaps the Apprentice had managed to blind him again, but this felt different somehow, more detached. Like he was no longer bound to the threads of this world. He heard someone singing a off to his right. The lyrics were hard to make out, but he did manage to pick up a few lines. "Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true. You'll see it's all a show, Keep 'em laughing as you go." He wanted to move towards the voice to see who it was, when a light appeared above him. He could feel himself being pulled towards the blinding glow, the darkness being driven away before it. The automaton quickly rose from the ground almost as suddenly as he had fallen. He saw Karie now standing at the side of the Apprentice. Her eyes reminded him of the guards they had encountered earlier in the prison, only she was far more lucid then they had been. Jeaux guessed that betrayal was less of a stretch for her personality, thus the Harvester did not need to take quite as much. This tool was truly impressive in its design and behavior, using a sort of discretion that Jeaux would have thought impossible for an artificial object. He tossed a remedy from the back row at Karie, splashing her with the contents and curing her of her temporary insanity. Or at least nullifying the effects of the Harvester, her insanity may take more than one remedy. OOC: Now Karie and Arnulf are free to attack. Someone should attack the Histicuffs to prevent it from getting a free hit. Party Order: Brickington Jeaux Em Karie Arnulf EDIT: OOC: I just remembered, Brickington's weapon is envenomed so the Apprentice should have been poisoned in round 5 and/or 6. -

Brickington asks the unconcious android for some assistance, but recieves nothing in reply, save for the clicking of gears that no longer seem to connect properly. OOC: You have a 1/6 chance of a 1 hit KO from either the Apprentice or the Histicuffs regardless of row. You could rez me this turn from the back row and once again absorb the Vipunch's free hit for no damage, then heal yourself next turn. That would allow me to attack on both turns, since I can take an action after being resuscitated, or you could heal yourself this turn, and save the phoenix essence. It is up to you. Someone should also remedy Karie before she has a chance to KO one of us another one of us. -

OOC: Brickington would have taken 2 damage from Vipunch that round since he was in the front row. The limp form of Jeaux clatters to the ground like a puppet whose strings have been cut. OOC: Well that sucks. Brickington, using a phoenix essense will take up your turn preventing you from attacking. Also somebody should probably remedy Karie before she attacks one of the party members. -

OOC: Brickington was in the back row so his attack would have dealt half damage. (4 x 2 = 8 + 3 = 11 / 2 = 6 - 1 = 5 damage) "Megabloks, that smarts!" Jeaux exclaimed as the little snake sunk its teeth in deep, a shadow had formed over his features and he seemed to be showing a more animated outlook on the battle. "I think I'm gonna make me some snake skin boots from that big guy. He had a really nice shade of green that I think would complement my eyes, and it's not like he needs it anymore." Jeaux turned to the Apprentice, who was practically shaking with anger. "Awww, did we kill the poor wittle boy's pet. You'll get over it, maybe you can get a nice puppy later if you manage to survive this. Name him Anacollie after your dear departed, soon to be a pair of boots, buddy" Jeaux fires an arrow at the Grieving Apprentice from the back row. OOC: Will post the battle order once people have decided on their actions. Em, you'll die from any attack at the moment so may want to rest for the round, or use that last potion in your inventory, or you can just go for it and hope for the best. -

OOC: I believe Sir Brickington's blindness ended this round "I agree with Karie, if Brickington thinks he can continue to take attacks from the Vipunch, then let's just ignore him. Sir Brickington, you seem to be coming very close on your attacks which is pretty good for a blind man. Try again for the apprentice now that you can see , though you may want to stick to the back row to maintain your defensive stance. Everyone else pick whatever target you feel lucky against. Keep an eye on your health, and try not to bite off more than you can chew." Jeaux fires an arrow at the Histicuffs from the back row. OOC: I'll post the battle order after everyone has chosen their actions. -

"I doubt a smoke bomb would do us much good, since our opponents are blocking the only exit. Worry not Em, as long as you are not poisoned this round the Histicuffs should only reduce you to a teeny bit of health." OOC: Since you're in the back row, the most damage he can do is 4. The apprentice hasn't used his confuse special yet so there are no AoE attacks, only the AOE poison from the anacondie which will require 2 (1/6) rolls.
