  1. Those two sets really are true classics and quite easy to rebuild. Your color choice needs some getting used to (I don't have a Harry Potter set) but it's recognizable :-) 7760 is my favorite small locomotive and is easy to rebuild. If only it weren't for the blue windows which are hard to get and expensive. I've built one with the 4512 color scheme: 7760 It needs a few more small modifications before I'm satisfied, though :-) At first glance there's no difference between your 7755 and the original. That's why I like the 1980s train sets (including buildngs). You bought one and could rebuild it with your own bricks...
  2. Me too, a garbage truck is what I meant here: ;-) This keeps getting better and better :-)
  3. I was wondering, too. Every Train box art of the 1990s was set inside or outside a cave. Very weird choice...
  4. Here :-)
  5. 7991 could be a new Dump Truck, the literal translation does say "sweepings truck". A sweeper really would be a disappointment. 7942 is actually the new fire pickup truck mentioned here.
  6. Woohoo! A gas station and harbor! YESYESYES! Great news, thanks! *sweet*
  7. You have to label it as such... ;-)
  8. With the airport the first of the infrastructural facilities has been decided on. Now it's time for a train station. Going way back to 1975 LEGO has provided quite a few different train stations over the years. Which one is your favorite? Vote here and share your thoughts about the set(s) :-) Here are the candidates (Click thumbs for bigger pictures) 1. 148 Central Station Way back in 1975 LEGO gave us the first train station. The design was pretty simple but offered a city feeling. Since people actually couldn't move at that time the lack of accesibility didn't matter, either. 2. 7822 Railway Station Five years later, people in the meantime had learned to move, the train station received a complete overhaul. The basic design with two platforms for one track more or less stayed the same, but acceptance among people was kind of low, not many showed up. So the number of personnel was kept low. 3. 7824 Train Station Shortly thereafter, in 1983, trains had become a lot more popular. The old station was torn down and a new one erected. The two platform design was abandoned, instead the focus was put on modern design and easy accessibility. People showed up in bigger numbers, too, so more personnel had to be hired. Economy thrived. 4. 4554 Metro Station That last train station stood its ground for almost ten years. Probably in secret lots of designers were working on a brand new station that should meet the growing demands of passenger traffic. They came up with a completely redesigned modern station. The name was changed to "Metro Station", signalling the growth of the city. It was recolored in yellow to sport a friendly look. The building now offered lots more room for waiting passengers, a restaurant and a new modernized control center. 5. 2150 Train Station Four years later, passenger traffic had grown constantly, city council decided to build a second train station. Because the design of the last station had proved reliable they decided to use it again. A known concept should provide lower cost in maintenance and the acceptance among passengers had been high, too. To seperate it from the first station it was painted red. 6. 4556 Train Station Despite a lot of investing in railway transportation that sector wasn't immune to problems. With the decreasing prices of plane tickets and car prices the railway had to fight decrea- sing numbers of passengers. Both train stations proved to be too expensive to maintain. So, in 1999, city council decided to go back to one trainstation. Due to the volume the previous two stations had to handle in the past their degree of deterioration was high and restoration would have been too expensive. So a new, cheaper station was designed to handle the lower passenger volume and train traffic. 7. 4513 Grand Central Station In 2003, with the city having grown into a metropolis, city council decided on a redesign of the station. Passenger volume hadn't increased so they tried to mix the success of the 1992 and 1996 stations with the low-cost design and maintenance of the 1999 station. Surveys showed that yellow had been a widely accepted color so they went back to it, too, and that station serves up to today. So, which one is your favorite? I will pin this poll for convenience and (try to) declare a winner around the weekend of October 7 & 8 since I'm on vacation the week before. After that I'll unpin it again and you can find it via the City Index and still discuss and vote if you haven't already. Vote on!
  9. Two weeks have passed and EB's citizens have decided. And with 18 votes over 9 votes it was a clear decision. I hereby declare EB's favorite airport: 6597 Century Skyway / 10159 LEGO City Airport I wouldn't really call it a classic set since I consider the classic lines to be 1980s lines but it has the "classic spirit". 6392, a true classic, came in second with 9 votes, 6396 and 7894 both received 3 votes each. Another defeat for the new sets. Topic unpinned. Voting's still possible but won't be taken into account anymore.
  10. Not exactly. Clinton threatened former Yugoslavia with air strikes which then were executed by NATO, led by the US. That "battle" won it. He didn't really declare war. Yes, he bombed the country but at least his "reasons" (suppression of Albania) weren't fake.
  11. Compared to now it was a golden age. You can't seriously compare domestic policy faults with a war... or two...
  12. I can't say anything about the model because I don't know anyhting about spaceship design, but I'd like to mention that to me it looks like a Romulan Firefighter Warbird X-D Lots of standard bricks, I like that *y*
  13. It sounds better when you say you have 50 % of the total forum posts... no one needs to know it's 7 out of 14...
  14. A new fire station...
  15. Nice find. There are some .pov files in the gallery, so I guess he uses LDRAW in combination with POV-ray utilities. I don't know how to use either of them. I installed them once, openend LDRAW and was like "WHOA! What the...?!" I'm just totally inept using graphic tools. I need to build for real, even if I change "directions" a hundred times during the build. It also shows me problems that might not be obvious in a virtual model at first glance. That's just more practical for me. I've read about people who only design virtual models, they don't even build for real anymore. With these additional tools to LDRAW you can create entire scenes (example). But still, as nice as these renderings look, it's nothing for me.
  16. How do you mean disturbing? It's obviously a spoof of the 1930s/1940s German Nazi Propaganda movies. And something like that is always kinda "disturbing". While I don't mind seeing it (and I think that movie is great) some always wrinkle their noses. That's all I meant ;-)
  17. B-OV-28C It's nothing overly special, but it's something rare, that's why I wanted to point it out: (click me) I like it because it's (sort of) "Minifig Scale", meaning it's not one of those big scale, UCS-like models and thus fits well into a layout. It doesn't look like the ber-MOC (even I find things I think could have been done better) but I think it offers everything you'd want from a rig: lots of "oil rig greeblies", a heli platform, cranes, platforms. I'd be happy if I could come up with something like that (and I have one planned for my layout). For an official set at a reasonable price it's too big but I would like to see TLC to come up with something like that in "their scale".
  18. Man, you're interests change fast. First you overwhelm us with MOCs by the minute almost - we can hardly catch a breath to read, enjoy and comment - and all of sudden you "quit" and move on to something else. You sure are demanding ;-) Any idea already what you're going into next so we can "prepare"? ;-)
  19. Well, Mister Toy Store... what's in it for us? :-P >:-) Congratulations :-)
  20. My thoughts exactly. The other day at TRU I saw Playmobil's airport. They use the modular approach and sell seperate smaller sets: Playmobil Airport Theme In the end an airport with one main building, a tower and a plane is more expensive than a one-set airport, but hat way gives you a lot more flexibility for a big airport. LEGO it would be even more modular. Kinda ironic Playmobil uses that concept...
  21. I agree with the upper levels. But I don't like the missing doors. Heck, doors were already here in the early 1980s! So, bring 'em back!
  22. Uh... smaller pics would be nice... please? It may sound weird, but I can't see anything...
  23. Amazing stuff... and somehow disturbing...
  24. That's ok, no one denies you that ;-) I didn't say he lies, I merely meant he twists things the way he needs 'em like everybody else. People like him are needed to sorta keep things in balance, though, or the US would be a dictatorship already ;-) Agreed :-)
  25. Happy birthday, Mr. Knowitallinadvanceandisalwaysright! Hope you foresaw lots of rattling presents for yourself ;-)
