  1. Yes, a layout can be too big for one speed regulator. And yes, adding speed regulators does help. Unfortunately my electrical skills aren't sufficient enough to explain what the best way is to set it up. I'm just trying myself when I set up my track. There should be topics on lugnet about that, I remember reading something, can't find it right now, though. Also to be taken into consideration: rusty track decreases "range", too. Odd thing, though: I have terribly rusty track that work absolutely fine and like-new track that seem to be a "dent" in the power circle. Guess that's a trial and error thing, too. As for the train motors: the longer (and heavier) the train the more motors you need. A complete Santa Fe (1 locomotive, 5 wagons) is the best test train since it's the heaviest "regular set train". It runs best with 2 motors (although only one is suggested in the instruction manual). I read that unfortunately the new motors (10153) aren't as durable as the old ones (5300). Since I only have new ones and the old ones aren't available anymore I can't compare. But you notice this only after running your trains for quite some time and under heavy stress (exhibitions for example). So, the average hobby train fan shouldn't notice anything too soon. I'll try and dig up some layout setup links. Hope that helped anyways ;-) PS: To answer your question: No, there is no such thing as too much 9V track ;-)
  2. You know what I meant :-P ;-)
  3. I like this news A LOT more than the extension of the SW license *sweet* No offense, but as good as your model is it's too EXO-FORCE-ish. And we have that line already. I hope they stick to what they've released lately design-wise (Castle, City) because that had some "classic spirit" ;-)
  4. I'm with you :-) I didn't know, either, and as I said, for castle walls I like this technique better than the 1x1 round bricks. I think so, too. On the other hand it doesn't look that wide on the picture...
  5. Well, I'm in the D.C./Northern Virginia area from December 23 to January 2. I'm not very mobile, though. Dunno how much the cab charge is to get there. Christmas-ish meeting anyone? :-)
  6. Ah, you mean the small arch. Well, that arch brick "stands out" a little. The wall is bent, the arch brick, of course, isn't. I guess that brick is the longest you could fit in that "radius". It's definitely an "illegal building technique", though ;-)
  7. I think he means the 80s "town scale" (the "small" houses without backs). I know Alex is a fan of the classic spirit ;-)
  8. misterhobbes (7) I don't sell on BL, I look for parts mostly and then I usually wait until I have a lot that I need and see that I get it from one seller to save shipping. Since that takes time and I started to buy only recently my rating's still low (but perfect ;-)).

    Hi

  10. That's because the wall isn't bent where the arch is ;-) I personally like a bent castle wall without 1x1 round bricks better. The round bricks do add structure to a wall, that's true, but on a castle wall they'd look out of place IMHO. This guy's exhibition pictures are from the exhibition I mentioned here, unfortunately I couldn't make it there to take more pics.
  11. What I like is that your layout shows that you don't need that much space to set up something decent. I always think I don't have enough space on my tables for everything I want to do. Thanks for reminding me that I have plenty ;-)
  12. 8-
  13. He probably means if you need the special 12V sleepers or if regular 2x8 plates would suffice. I had 12V, too, and mixed sleepers and regular 2x8 plates. Worked for me.
  14. That truck model looks good, better than the main model. Kinda looks City scale, I could use that :-)
  15. Yeah, I know that feeling. Same here at the moment. I buy lots of Technic sets to build and display, and I buy City sets for my layout, but somehow never get around to build them. Somehow I "need" to have all the new or latest sets. On the other hand I don't consider myself a MOCer. I haven't built anything "freestyle" in a long time and usually get frustrated if things don't turn out the way I want or I can't find a certain brick or piece. So, yeah, right now I'm in a buying frenzy without MOCing intentions. But I don't consider that... umm... "bad". There's people/collectors who do that only and never MOC, so I'm good :-)
  16. I especially like this pic :-D Pic added by Yoda for our lazy souls :-D
  17. Now that's what I call a "cargo train": (clickable thumb) X-D

    My city story

Probably. It's one of the most sought after town sets ;-) It's supposed to connect the town/city with the airport, and since airports are usually quite a bit outside of a city it needs to be grand ;-)
  19. Check here. Enter the set number and you find most of the sets. The forklift instructions can be found here. It seems TLC found out about it and has blocked his IP, so no new sets will be added "until further notice". hth

    My city story

  21. Better. I've changed the thread title accordingly :-) I plan to incorporate Pirates (a shipwrecked SES with Divers, and a modified Eldorado Fortress as a seaside restaurant) into my city. Haven't started yet, though. Also the 4888 Designer set is easily integratable as a Divers station. Then I have a Fort Legorado which I could use as some sort of old town center, will see about that... I used to play with my brother's 6073 and my trains when I was a kid. That wasn't really "integrating" but rather mixing themes. And it worked well, it didn't look "wrong" to me. I've always liked that. I have thought about something similar actually... Nope, it isn't ;-) Since I have Pirates and Western sets I wanted to use Fort Legorado's gate as some sort of "gate through time" where the trains would pass into other timelines. My new layout doesn't fit that setup anymore, though. Maybe if I have a house with more room once... ;-)
  22. Now available at S@H North New World USD 49.99 and CAD 79.99, respectively. Enjoy, it's a beauty ;-)
  23. You should give us something to discuss, though. Your thread reads like "Snow is white, and i made a green spot in it." Umm... yeah, well... On the other hand, we have sort of a discussion now, just not about what you wanted...
  24. I'm against a ranking system here, too. There's sites like mocpages that have that. The [set] tag sounds kinda interesting but I'm sure takes some "hacking into the core". Dunno if that'll be implemented any time soon (if at all)...
