  1. They just dont sell anymore. Its easier for a parent to buy a whole train set rather than worry about buying each and every thing separately. And besides, if you want more cars, you can build them yourself.
  2. Ive seen dyed lego but with no solvent use. It may be better for the plastic as well to not use solvents but only dye.
  3. Maybe someone with access to molding machines could create something like BBB original design. It was a good design from the varied track idea. Maybe if the metal rails were designed to use railjoiners and flexible rail, we would have a varied track design with only 4 or 5 different molds for the normal rails which could be placed in one overall mould? Though switches are still an issue. Using flexible metal rail and rail joiners would resolve Bens original reason to scrap the first design?
  4. Hes hinting at selling a product without actually saying it. Thats how i read it
  5. Brickshelf gallery isnt yet public. You can post pictures here if you first put them on flickr because flickr gives you the right format for posting pictures in the forum.
  6. Im honestly a little disappointed. As much as the previous design might have been flawed, I did overall like its adaptability. This new one, although the metal looks great, the plastic track just seems like a mod to the existing track. Nothing we havent seen talked about before. No big change like the original design had. And if we are supposed to print all the track ourselves, then that limits the product to those with a 3d printer or access to one. And the rail? Where do you buy just rail? As much as someone will probably come by and accuse me of something as the internet always does, Im a little disappointed at the end result.
  7. The tender seems a little basic. The wheels and underframe just dont look right. But the loco looks nice.
  8. The placement of the gates suits a double track more. If you shortened the gates, it would look a lot better.
  9. Those coaches are amazing, although I much prefer heavyweights. The length is perfect, and I agree, 1stud per foot is what I follow. I do like your technic couplings. Magnets would never hold a few of those.
  10. Maybe adding another turntable in the fiddle yard will allow you to easily turn around the scottsman for return trips?
  11. Thats amazing.
  12. 8 wide is perfectly acceptable as long as you watch clearances on the side of the track. There would be no reason why the train could not be pulled. And many of us build trains in 8 wide anyway, and we see no problems. Only weight issues, but this doesnt seem to be TOO part intensive to be too heavy. Go for it!
  13. Acrylic paints are flexible but getting a thin coat would be hard.
  14. This is the most well known method to converting track. The only downside is it peels after a while.
  15. Actually, If youre looking for traction tires, I found Lionel 3 rail a good source. Though I dont know where you could get those in the UK. Maybe online?
  16. Its a mix between floating track on tiles, twisted turntables in one or two spots, and forcing in a stud or two where they most closely match. Sorry I cant help with pictures, but its not too hard to figure out in practice. Just know you'll never get it perfectly secure like you can with straights. I cant seem to find a how to of that. I know one exists, I tried it.
  17. Ive used banked curves before for Christmas trains under the tree. Banking works as long as the train can still run over it without tipping to the inside.
  18. Why would Chewbacca have a metal. He never received one in the movie.
  19. The best thing Ive seen is dyes. Consistent color and doesnt wear off. Though, brands or types, i dont know
  20. Im no electrics expert, but wouldnt a resistor help limit voltage?
  21. Is trains still considered a theme by lego? Last time i checked it was only a category in the city type line.
  22. Couldnt one of us here reproduce it to see for sure? It seems like a straight forward design.
  23. Are there any pictures as they dont seem to work for me. All I get is an outline.
  24. I saw them at Barnes and Noble before the holidays.
