Thanks guys You can get the poster here: http://www.posterrevolution.com/poster.cfm/lego-city-panoramic-door-poster-print-21x62 It's only $10 and it does look nice, it's large. I'm going to do more videos from more trains and some off the trains and try to mix them into a video and try to get some detail video of some of the custome stuff like the building under construction. The video does not show the airport either.

Very cool thread, keep it going!

Building a new city/rail layout with bridges and elevated track
kc2dc replied to kc2dc's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks guys. This is all the space I have, so from here out, I'm going to have to get pretty creative just to make room for new stuff. Thinking about building a hill/tunnel on the back side to create more real estate. I also plan to make some videos with POV cameras and from a quad chopper, so that will be interesting. -

Thanks timmy. I guess this display is pretty lame compared to most (based on the little response it gets), I wish it had more custom stuff, but we really enjoy it! -
Building a new city/rail layout with bridges and elevated track

Here is a video of the first time the trains were run on the new bridges. It was a success! -
Thanks for the comments! The bridges are complete and I have started adding minifigs and other details. Here are a few new pics:
-
Thanks guys! Have not added many minifigs yet, they are all still in a box for now. We have run out of space, so I think in order to be able to keep expanding, I will build a hillside/ tunnel over the rail tracks on the back side and place the houses on the hill to free up the lower area for buildings.

Here are some new pics. We moved and so had the opportunity to re-design the city some. It now makes more sense with a harbor, downtown, suburban type area, airport etc, all connected by road and rail systems. Sill working on the bridges and other details. What do you think? Few more pics

Building a new city/rail layout with bridges and elevated track
kc2dc replied to kc2dc's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for the comments, even to say the photos are too big! haha. Below is a photo update Been working hard on a basic road/rail layout. Managed to get the two outside tracks in place with their inclines for the bridges. Used one plate per track. Both the horizon express and masersk (both with dual engines) run fine on the inclines. Once I get the train yard done, I will push those tables against the wall and widen the gap where the bridge will go. There will eventially be a canal there where large ships pass under the bridges. I will also expand the water beyond the tables in a couple of other places. I hope to get to the airport soon and finalize the monorail lines. -
Hi all. We have moved and are rebuilding our city from scratch. I thought I would post some pics as we progress and get ideas and feedback in the process. You can view our old layout here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=523253 It was busy and crowded and really not planned very well, so we are going to try to make this new city much better. We are using the same amount of sq footage, but the set up is different to fit into the room. Below are a few pics. Everything below is temporary. We just laid out a basic idea of what we think will use the space we have the most efficiently. There will eventually be a downtown area, a suburban area, an industrial area, the airport and the harbor. The layout will have two rail lines running along the perimeter a couple of sidings and a single loop in the city area plus two mono rail lines. There will be a truss bridge (about three times as long as the temp one in the photos) that will carry two tracks over the gap and a harbor area. We tested the incline for the bridge as you can see in the photos and the trains do fine on the inclines, but that will all be redone now with the new bridge and new pier structures. We plan to hang some of the airplanes from the ceiling in a depart/approach patter to free up space at the airport. There will be a tunnel/hillside in the back corner behind the suburban houses that will have windmills on top the hillside. Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks! I'll try to get some better pics soon. yea, that is the primary thing I need to add, I thought it wouldn't bother me to leave them out, but it has bugged me and I'm going to add them. Could have done separate modulars, but thought it would take up less space to fit it on one baseplate and I like the more mixed use feel of the building, plus we are out of room!
-
Here are some pics of the new Town Square pizza and bike shop after being converted to a modular building. Still have a few more things to add to the interior, but it's nearly done.
-
Thanks again to everybody. It's neat that people like it! The only problem now is we are out of room. So we must now get creative if we want to add more buildings. Here is a link to some stills: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=523253

Thanks for the comments! Yes, we do have a few custom sets. We are slowly adding them, although they too were originally sets. The pizza place we have is now a modular, but the parts of it came from a little city set. Others are the police station, airport terminal and tower etc, oh and the highrise under construction of course. My son designed a really neat modular school on designer, but we have not figured out a way to get the parts without it costing $500, but maybe someday. Thanks again.

this is awesome!

I thought I would post this video of our city. I'm sure many of you die hards won't be impressed because there it not a lot of custom sets, but we enjoy it.
-
Have any of you built a catenary system? I'm looking for ideas to add one to our horizon express track, but I can't think of anything that would look good and not clutter things up too much.

Hello, I’m trying to add a new wanted list and the option does not show up. All I see is (No Items in Wanted List), but there is nothing under that to add a new list. I have tried this is multiple browsers and PCs and they are all the same. Do you guys know what I may be doing wrong? Thanks in advance. -
Yes and it’s quite the monster. IKEA tables are awesome though! I’m surprised people like our layout on these forums, I figured it would just be chump change compared to what most here have, especially with our layout having so many non custom buildings (although many are custom or modified).

What's wrong with the shuttle? We love the monorail, I think it's the best part of our layout!
