How flexible are your cars?
shadowhearth replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually andythenorth is quite right. It's hard to believe, but your every day car has quite a lot of flexibility in its body. That is done for a few reasons, but most important it is for ride quality. A lot of rally or racing cars are getting a lot rewelding done to them to increase its sturdiness. It makes for a lot better driving and handling characteristics, but ride quality suffers a lot. Though we don't know that racing machines are not for comfort ;). I would allow some flexibility in lego technic sets. Obviously I would try to make as solid as possible, but when you work with plastic like this its hard to do fully solid construction. It's not like Otis needed. -
Lego Technic Clones

Yes m8. Top gear ;). You have to take everything they say with a truck of salt, but sometimes they do say interesting stuff. -
hmmm those new technic sets apeared on lego.com i have to say pricing is not that bad! 42006 is 59.99eu. i am not in to bikes ( 42007) at all, but for 29.99eu i might throw it in when i buy some other technic stuff! dont like the small sets at all though. i would not even throw them in for ***** and giggles... btw, whats going to be the story with the winner of 4x4 crawler design? will it be a new set for this year?

9395 Tandem Wheel Option
shadowhearth replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
its a lovely set. its only 59.99eu here and for that price it is a lot of a kit. lots of parts and truck it self is great. What i really love about is how sturd it feels. you know how technic sets can feel a bit wobly and all over the place? well this just feels like a brick! :d i love the mods you did lads, but just keep in mind. the reason some of these changes are not made, because it might increase price of a kit. i am prety sure each kit has its budget in materials and parts, so they cant go too crazy. i bet almost all of lego designers wanted to jam in that V8 in there and double the wheels! -

problem is Lego can sue them as much as they want and nothing will happen. BMW sued chinese manufacturer who made a copy of their BMW X5 and court took knock offs side. why? because these court cases have to be in china, so guess whos side will court take? China is not same country like the bigger part of the world. Its a very deep bag. Lego should do something about. that something should be a system to make identify program they use for normal bricks applied to technic parts too. -
Scammell Crusader Wrecker
shadowhearth replied to Makorol's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That is one lovely truck m8. Looks like a lot of effort went in to it. Just question: you use medium motor for steering. Are servo motored not strong enough? -
Maybe it got 10k votes, but I will eat my hat if it will win. Set has to be universal and be theme which could be close to international buyer. One schools mascot maybe is important for particular school, but it means jack ****, to someone on the other side of the ocean, or even someone in the same country.

Lego Technic Clones
shadowhearth replied to imajor's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Your statement is complete false and you comparing apples to oranges. Apple vs android is a battle between two legitimate companies, who have their own products, their own software, their own identity. Both companies make very unique from each other devices. What we have here is apple vs applA. Comparing iPhone vs ePhone. A legitimate product vs a cheap lower quality knock off, which steals the original design, instead of making its own original device. Your statement would be true if we would compare lego to megablocks. In this case, we are not. If you are happy to buy cheap knock offs with questionable plastic origin, unknown production methods, then fair play to you. Knowing these are Chinese knocks off I am prety sure an army of underaged children were making these sets in ghetto factories. It would be all good and nice, if it would not interfere with legitimate lego users. We buy lego parts and we expect to get leg parts. Instead some sneaky people can mix in fake lego and sell it as legitimate parts. We don't want this. -

just one thing lads. Lego plastic is non toxic. I am prety sure a lot of us, when were children used our moth as a part holder. Not the most hygenic thing to do, but at least you knew the plastic was high quality. Now imagine putting something like fake technic set in to your mouth... i personally thing that you way better off buying a few second hand lego technic sets then going near that fake crap. -
i think you underestimate the gamer. Nobody said that the ones who like lotr and SW love building Lego too. For example i am a gamer, i got 10++ action figures of WoW, got few other game action figures too. All of my gamer friends got some of the gamer stuff too. one of my friends got a frostmourne sword with stand which was way over 1000£. that is just a small group of gamers i play with. We, gamers, buy collectors edition which are double the price, just because it has Big daddies statue, diablo skull etc. Do you really think that nerds like us would resist something like " Stormwind bank" lego? I think minecraft lego would be a great example for this too. It is very popular set and it is just booming in price. NERDS love it! Even if they wont play with it like children doo, they will want it in their nerd collection. I play a lot of minecraft, i would like to get my hands on one of these sets, but i cant justify inflated prices of it and i got a huge list of technic sets to buy . Other thing, arent Lego a bit hypocrites? They shot down portal lego, just because it was first person shooter? in reality they only later realised that it was a puzzle game with minimum violence and put it back in to review! This makes me wonder: WHO THE HELL DOING RESEARCH IN LEGO, WHY ARE THEY EVEN GETTING PAYED?!?! . I Totally agree that some games have too much violence and not too suitable for lego sets, but the ideas still could be taken and made new themes? what about some post apocaliptic theme like fallout? zombie survivor? i agree that fallout might be quite too much stuffed with violence, but it can be toned down for a lego set theme? talking about violence, which lego tries to stay away from. I bought 66383 set for 20eu on sale in local heatons shop. one of the sets in there is named " weapon rack" ( i think ) whole set is just Weapons! I started looking more in to the whole set and realised that even the box outside advertises the amount of different weapons it has!!! So the whole theme is based on violence, weaponary? I am not attacking lego for having violence sets, but i am just saying its a bit hypocritical. I still LOVE lego . Its just food for though. I would really love to see some lego sets dedicated to gaming.

And I though it will be a thread about being afraid of people judgement :D My models in my man cave, which barely gets any sun light at all! My 3 PC screens don't like sunlight :D. So lego does not suffer too. I got blinds up in the room 24/7. It's not like we getup sunlight in Ireland anyway. OP, why not to put a shelf in t the part of room, which gets the least punt of direct sunlight or just get blinds?
-
isee where you coming from. as for amount of people playing, 2-3mil of copies sold to a good franchise is not a problem these days. fallout 3 sold 4.7mil copies in first week, that is not included all pirated versions Skyrim 10 million copies sold and again thats outside the pirated copies. League of legends has 32million active players. monthly! so i dont think the small audience is an issue at all. its a lot bigger then non gamer people imagine. the reason Wow is not doing great that almost no one knows about it. i found out only recently that there are megablocks wow toys. by recently i am saying it was 2 weeks ago... Lets be honest, Megablocks are not even near popularity of lego. Make WoW lego brand, show nerds that it is out there and it will sell as good as starwars Lego! Now yo have a very good point that i did not thought of it at start. Lego might be keeping its name out of 16++ zone. a lot of those games do have violence, so it could be a huge no no. i sometimes forget Lego is not an adult only toy!
-
hey, i am pretty new around here, so dont be mad at me if you had this topic already. I came back to lego as 26 years old adult ( at least i think i am adult, though after this xmas i am not too sure now ). I Love technic Sets and thats what i am reviving my lego skills with. i am big gamer and PC hardware enthusiast on the other side too. I discovered that CUUSOO had an EVE online rifter frigate entry. It was quite an amazing Moc and i am not even saying this as an EVE player! . Now we got in review Portal 2 set and we have minecraft set out for sale too. A lot of Lego fans are gamers too. Gaming is one of the biggest entertainment industry in the world ( if not biggest ), wouldnt that be like a gold mine for lego to introduce some gaming related themes ( and i am talking about theme, not just one off set )? I am pretty sure LEGO is not stupid and they see this market, so there must be something i dont know so? for example there are very huge gaming worlds and themes. I know i sow some World of Warcraft brick sets and Halo, but i cant remember who made them. Though i know i was quite surprised that Lego did not snatched WOW license for Lego. there are around 10million active Wow players and even more of those who are Ex wow players like myself. Thing is i would buy almost any Lego world of warcraft lego set, because it was a huge part of my life once. I love that universe and lore even now, so having it in lego would be just plain awesome! We got such themes like Mass effect, Starcraft, Fallout, Bioshock, League of legends, Dota, Elder scroll, half life? portal, team fortress 2, warhammer 40k? I am pretty sure that even not a lego fan gamers would have that just because of its Nerdiness factor. Surely it would be quite a good thing to developers of these games too?

shadowhearth replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
i think that was the joke! anyway, i am a bit new to the hole H1 and H2 set thing. when can we expect proper releases of H1 stuff and H2? i am looking forward to sink my teeth in to 42000. Then ofc to see proper reviews and pricing of H2 stuff. i am asking, because i want to know if i can put some money in to older sets now and dont be completely money-dry when new sets coming out.- 902 replies

I bought it few days ago and finally built it recently. I loved to build it and I just love it built. It's massive! Looks great! I know it has no crane in a boot, but hey, you can't please everyone ;). I would not mind buying one more for storage or parts. So what is the cheapest anyone found? Europe/Ireland?

Recommend better forums than Eurobricks...?
shadowhearth replied to andythenorth's topic in Community
Well OP, you actually are the biggest whiner then in these forums, because you needed a whole thread dedicated to whining. You made. Thread, which sole porpoise is you whining! Whining is a normal human being reaction. You can't make everyone happy, you never will. If you call opinion that does not agree with yours whining, then you got a problem your self m8. We are humans not robots, we can't love everything that is thrown at us. And this is forum where people discuss topics. So opinions clash and that's how it should be. If we all going to be: "yes, this is lovely, you are amazing and totally not fat", then we will have very boring forum. Healthy criticism is a good thing. If person is lied to its face and being told its perfect, but in reality it is bad, then you destroy opportunity to that person to improve and fix. Same can go with lego new lego sets. I don't know how many forums you have been on OP, but trust me, I am on a lot of different forums. Building pc,gaming, cars, car clubs, lego, pet etc. I have seen some fanboism and whining in my time and trust me, this forum is on lower mark of whining. AMD even if there is a whining, people still give god arguments and they still respect others opinion. Funny how a child's toy forum had a lot more mature behaver then a lot of mature forums. -

Lego Technic 2h 2013
shadowhearth replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
aye, that is true. though why not to make a bit more broader range then? why not to have 2 flagships with 2 totally different themes? one car/4x4/truck and one tractor/excavator/crane/heavy machinery? So far this year the ones who like road going stuff got shafted. waiting for another 1.5 years in a hope to see a new set, which would be good for others is a bit unfair. still though, i got a lot of catching up to do as i only got back to lego this xmas. I got few items on to buy list from olders sets, which i missed out!- 902 replies

Lego Technic 2h 2013
shadowhearth replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
aye m8. i have one more sentence to fisnish that dialog, if you dont mind: "So we need another flagship" "Here, what about big mobile crane" "But, it will be same as 8421" "Yes, but this time will be bigger than any can imagine," "oh my god! are you saying we will make it 2 stud wider, 4stud longer and 3 stud higher!?!?!?!" "yes, we are rolling in a high gear here ladies and gentleman, no more space for playing around!" i would change word "playing", with other word, but i am not sure on age restrictions here. I am sure there are good few fans of mobile cranes here, but i cant see how much more of improvement it will be. in the end of the day its still mobile crane! 42000 F1 was really meh for me, but now it really grew on me. then we got service truck which looks like a the only option for someone who likes road stuff, not all that heavy building equipment. it made me so sad to see monster truck as a small set. i think i was looking forward to it most. .- 902 replies
