I sincerely hope that Lego wouldn't use the new castle dragon for Smaug instead of making a clever brick built version. However some people from the link above were discussing the possibility. Also not much is said about Desolation of Smaug sets other than mentioning their inevitable existence which we all knew regardless.

Exactly I think we will get 2 sets from AuJ to make up for the first wave including preview sets. One will be Rhosgobel with Radagast, sled and attacking Mirkwood spiders and the other may be Wargs vs Elven riders. Other possibilities include a battle in front of Moria set, three trolls (I doubt this one) or maybe another Rivendell set. To be honest there aren't many other scenes which have not been covered. Mainly story progresses with Erebor, Hobbiton, Rhosgobel, Flashback Moria, Trollshaws, Rivendell hidden entrance, Rivendell, Stone giants, Goblintown, Gollum cave, Burning Trees, Eagles Carrock.

How would Kili and Fili fit into a Rhosgobel set? I don't recall them ever being at Radagast's home.

Targaryen army sounds unique and I would love to see a MOC of King's landing or something along those lines. Truth be told I'm disappointed in the revelation about the dragon baddies face print. The concept of vampires was interesting and I wanted to see where Lego could go with the concept. Oh well.

Anyone know if LOTR was at the Nuremburg Toy fair? I hope we see more pics soon, Castle looks okay but it would be nice to see LOTR as well.

I don't think Lego will have issues with production designs because DoS has been filmed for the most part. PJ is just fleshing out scenes, some of which will revolve around the Dol Guldur attack. The design of Dol Guldur is easy to reference so Lego just needs to design the minifig prints. Elrond may be wearing the same armor so no issue there and the others will probably be similar like Galadriel, Saruman and Gandalf. Only the Necromancer really needs to be fleshed out and Lego can have some sketches and designs from Weta. Either way Lego would need to do a Dol Guldur set because it may be a huge action scene and easily draw in interest for the wave. Lego loves spooky set pieces and lots of action play features which Dol Guldur is perfect being a dungeon and ruined structure.

Some great ideas here. I think Lego will have a blended wave which is like the first. Usually it is easy to figure out what Lego will do just based on business and playability. As others have said 6-7 sets for a movie is a good starting place. Here are some ideas to contribute to the brain storming going on: The first set will be small like Riddles or Gandalf arrives or the new Wizard battle. Could be a throwback to AuJ like a Rivendell cavalry vs warg. Another possibility could be Azog vs Thorin. Not sure what this could be. Much of DoS occurs in Mirkwood and Laketown. Another Mirkwood Elf set in the woods may be redundant. A set with Bilbo and the spiders would also seem repetitive. Hall of the Elvenking Thranduil throne room with Thranduil, Bilbo, Thorin, a Mirkwood Elf Guard (maybe 2?) about 200 pieces, a set in size similar to Uruk-hai army or Mirkwood spiders. Beorn's House or Rhosgobel This could work either way, as a throwback to the first movie or part of DoS proper. If it is Radagast we can get his sled and some spiders attacking his home. Otherwise maybe Beorn and some orcs or something. Probably would be a medium size set like Hagrids Hut from HP or similar in size to Weathertop (not so many pieces though). Smaug's descent/Smaug's awakening This set will work in one of two ways. If Smaug dies in DoS this set will be Bard vs Smaug in a burning Laketown. If not Smaug will be on his pile of gold and include Bilbo. Will be the similar in size and piece count to Mines of Moria, Attack of the Wargs or the new Council of Elrond. Assault on Dol Guldur (possible flagship set of wave 2) Includes Necromancer, Saruman, armored Elrond, two orcs, Galadriel and rehash Gandalf, maybe a Ringwraith or two? About between the size and piece count of Helms Deep, Goblin King Battle or the upcoming Black Gate set or upcoming Pirate Corsair ship. Saruman is included because Lego likes to reuse minifigs. Elrond, Galadriel and Necromancer will be new. Structure will be open and curved with broken towers.
-
The only problem with this is how Lego creates sets based on action scenes for the most part. I cannot believe that they would pass up the opportunity to do a Smaug vs Bard in a burning Laketown set. Also Lego prefers to reuse molds and or set pieces so even a brick built Smaug would probably be seen twice, the other in his lair.

Delta your image of Elrond is from the Hobbit not from Fellowship of the Ring council of Elrond scene.

Yes! I believe we will get a Thranduil, he has to be quite important to the second movie. Can't wait to see what Lego does for his silver metallic printing and tall golden crown. Also we better see some Mirkwood guards in more heavy leather armor maybe in the Throne room. Tauriel needs female elf hair of course. There should be an easy way to distinguish their gender aside from their printed faces.

Thank you Lego for giving Arwen and Elrond different hair sculpts which they rightly deserve. Now we just need to see a new Thranduil sculpt because no way does his hair or twig crown resemble anything yet made. If Lego does this I will be happy. Sorry to everyone looking for new orcs but give me the Elves! Of course my elves need enemies so eventually I hope with the rest of you that Lego will give the orcs at least new prints. If not we may have to start getting creative and use prints outside the license.

I don't understand how do polybags not violate the no figurines or action figures stance being taken by TLG? In essence are polybags okay but not a smaller set with just three army builder minifigs and some 50-100 bricks? These sets look great but I would like to see more clear images. I like the quality of the Corsair ship and can't wait to see the other sets with this much clarity. Though it's not needed I would just like to say that we have all demanded a lot of Lego as AFOLs. LordoftheBricks is passionate and excited and we should all try to keep civil. Another thread for speculation has been made and I hope the situation has rectified itself.

Has to be Gimli in Council of Elrond set. Gimli is the one who breaks his axe on the ring pedestal as shown on the play action feature.

I can't see the images, even the links directly to Flickr aren't displaying anything. Your MOC sounds great and full of details but I would like to see it.

The Silmarillion is my favorite Tolkien book, much better due to the tragedy and self inflicted downfall of the Noldor and the epic scale of the conflicts. It also captures more of the mythology and fairy tale tone of pre-Christianized European pagan sagas like the Kalevala and the Norse epics.

Thanks for the invitations and compliments! I am so torn between choosing which guild to pick, Kaliphlin or Avalonia?? How do I go about joining one? I would love to finish this but I need lots more bricks and it will be at least a month before I can make another order. The entire wall is supposed to be covered in waterfalls like you see on the balcony and the entire set will sit on water. Also the gatehouse needs a roof which will be triangular and the walls need work. Of course I plan to add scenery aside from water like rockwalls and vegetation. Part of me wants to work on a Rivendell MOC next but this fortress needs attention lol. I looked at the instructions for Hogwarts 4842 and I want to mimic the design with changes to look like one of the buildings in Rivendell. Much cheaper than purchasing the entire Hogwarts castle which I wouldn't use the figs or many of the pieces, though some of the accessories are decent.

This is a great place to share elven MOCs, maybe even make a index thread. I have these from before, not sure if anybody saw these, I have been making only elven designs: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=77153#entry1462454 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76556#entry1447471

The great hall section with the pillars looks great! How did you make the delicate archways off the pillars? It looks like it goes from a 1 brick with a single round 1 x1 brick and then to three bricks wide. I would love to adapt that technique because it would make a perfect addition to Rivendell. I love the shot with the stained glass windows and the floor tiles. The ceiling tiles are a very nice touch. It is ways great to see realistic and unique interiors. How many bricks have you used so far? Edit: Nevermind I just found the inverted 1x3 slope 45 on bricklink. Had no idea this piece even existed. :-)
-
Wizard Battle is still needed if Orthanc is lacking in the interior. Those pillars and the Palantir may be of use but having yet another Gandalf we could all do without.

That's funny I bought 4 forbidden forests sets sans minifigs for $4 bucks a piece on bricklink to increase my Mirkwood Forest. I guess it can go both ways with crossover pieces for each theme. I really want a Hogwarts for the tan pieces but it's a bit expensive. I want to use the great hall section to recreate some buildings from Rivendell. I wish there was a way to buy just that section.

Haha yeah now that you mention it, Lone ranger seems pretty oblivious to everything just pointing guns in the air. I think it follows the comedy of the new adaptation because Tonto is experienced and lone ranger needs guidance.
-
This is great! I'm glad everybody is excited about Forest Ambush as much as I am. It looked so unremarkable but October provided the details to flesh out this set and it makes it all the more special.

Which set is that in the upper left corner behind Adam Brown?
-
Wishing for Lone ranger polybag to include his horse was expecting too much. Not a bad selection for kids and moderate collectors but I wanted a white horse. Guess the overpriced Cavalry set is the way to go with those horses. I even wish the Princess creator set had a white horse instead of a brown one. Oh and it's great that Tonto gets a new tomahawk mold but the Hobbit barely gets any new weapons, not even Orcrist just rehashes from LOTR like Sting and the Hobbit short swords.
