I love the B-wing as well, piloting it in Rebel Assault 2 made it all the more memorable. Not to mention the firepower on the B-wing is great and it is a larger more complex almost experimental star fighter. I believe it was added to the Rebel Alliance fleet later on due to it's expense and represented the growing influence and military power of the Alliance as it began to match the Imperial navy. I could be wrong but personally I think the new Jedi Scout Ship (Jedi Hunter) resembles the Hapan Miy'til Starfighter known as the Storm. It is EU based but then so is the E-wing originally and Lego could easily look for obscure EU ships for inspiration. It has similar wing shape and is outfitted with multiple heavy turbo lasers and cannons like the Storm. Check here for info: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Storm_(Miy%27til_starfighter) "The Storm was also much more heavily armed, mounting three laser cannons, two ion cannons, a concussion missile launcher, and two thermal detonator bombing tubes."

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Mahtion replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have two questions. First I got the X-wing starfighter yesterday and it was an inventive and fun build. I was really impressed with how Lego emulated the side plating, created the wing mechanism and used technic frame to form the nose shape. I felt like I was actually building the real X-wing in Incom engineering bay lol. Do any other ship sets other than UCS provide as fun and involved building techniques? My other question is for another set I picked up, General Grevious wheel bike. It's a detailed set but I find the wheel doesn't turn. I tried making it work for over an hour but for some reason it doesn't spin like illustrated on the box or in the instructions. Has anyone else encountered this problem? -
It is true that the movie split had an impact on related merchandise but it still cannot excuse companies like TBD for every blunder. Sadly it seems almost all of the companies have faced setbacks, Games Workshop I have heard has had to cut back on Hobbit offerings due to poor sales. I don't know if it's the selection offered by these companies or the disinterest from fans annoyed by the tonal changes and stylized action that has contributed to this problem. The fact remains that we have seen this trend with multiple if not all Hobbit merchandise companies. Maybe TBD wants to cut it's loses by not producing so many different figures, which is a shame but it is also their own fault for relying too much on multipacks and rehashes to sell. I do not know the predicament with the film replicas but it seems Orcrist is a popular seller. As for Lego, again partly the poor sales (if so) can be attributed to the set choices and catering more for wider target groups like Pirate ship rather than selling to the fan base. We know that different offerings and choices would have easily have generated more interest if the focus was mildly on battles. I live in Tampa Bay Area of Florida and I agree with others that Hobbit sets are mixed in with LOTR wave 2 CoE, Black Gate and Wizard battle more in the middle of the aisle sandwiched between massive room for well stocked Star Wars and other side by old Galaxy Squad sets. I too have only seen DGB at Toysrus. Personally I would have purchased more of LOTR wave 2 but I did not want a Pirate rather Corsair ship. I have picked up all of hobbit wave 2 aside from DGB since I don't have that much room and we still have wave 3.

Your designs are great, good attention to detail. My favorite part is the complex imperial window and the computer raised platforms (not sure what to call them). My only suggestion is to change out the Luke minifig with the Ewok Village exclusive design since that is more film accurate!

Middle-Earth Madness - Minas Morgul vs Fangorn Forest [Week 10]
Mahtion replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Minas Morgul it is! -
I think this information is accurate. Considering we got a $30 army builder in LOTR wave 1, missed one in Hobbit wave 1, then got one in Hobbit wave 2 and missed one in LOTR wave 2. Hobbit wave 3 won't have one but LOTR wave 3 will it seems likely.

Exactly the two style buildings which belong to Dale were mistaken for Laketown. The Laketown set is the second smallest according to Huw from fbtb. There is actually a thread about the toy fair at London where he reviews his recordings which are directly from the Lego rep. Lake town set is a bell tower with Bain, BoFA is a couple buildings with Dain and Erebor is sand green interior with Smaug. It wouldn't make much sense for Laketown to get to two 59.99 sets and Dale which plays a significant part of TABA have only a small army builder. Also the waves seem to skip a $30 army builder meaning wave 3 will likely not have one but like Black Gate, BoFA will be able to represent a battle and feature the respective faction. The reason some attendees were confused was the close proximity of the Laketown bell tower with the two Dale ruined buildings. Dale has some similar architecture to Laketown but has terra cotta colors and white. Since it's in ruins and scorched, part of it will be grey but we shouldn't have another grey ruin. The set should have some interesting colors actually based on the once brilliant bright painted stones mixed with scorched segments. I am really excited about this set and what Lego could give us!

Thanks floundie for that compiled list, helps that we all have a frame of reference to discuss the sets. While a lot of the information is scattered and not confirmed, we still have ways to make educated guesses. For instance we know that Erebor will feature Smaug for multiple reasons. More reports than not mention Smaug being part of Erebor and one said that it features the end of DoS with the company vs Smaug. Also the price for the largest easily accommodates a very large mold, otherwise the set is too expensive. Now something interesting, BoFA set which is likely the 59.99 set has 30 pieces more than Weathertop and 11 pieces more than Laketown chase. More pieces are good when Lego needs to depict the five armies in a relatively cheaper or smaller set. Just realized Black Gate is 656 pieces, that's almost 200 pieces more! I wonder what could account for this considering Black Gate has a horse mold and an exclusive Eagle along with 5 minifigs. The only way BoFA would have less parts is that it has more molds (helmets) and more minifigs or more large pieces.

Wow I missed it by one day! I was expecting it but I took a week off from Lego. It was BOGO 50 for city and Lego movie sets the week before last and now I think it's just city only.
-
How did the BOGO 50 off at toysrus apply to non city or Lego movie sets? If I had known I would have picked some last week! I got the A wing and Sith Troopers BP but no BOGO 50 was applied....

Is it normal for new Star Wars sets to sell out completely on Lego.com less than five days after they have been made available? Does anyone know about how long it takes for sold out sets to become available again? I think I would be better off going to toyrsus or Walmart. Also I noticed that the BOGO 50 at toyrsus is for city. Have the stores actually started to apply them to Star Wars sets too? If so how long is the sale going on?

Hi everyone! I have loved Star Wars since mid 90s as a kid but fell into my Lego dark age around AOTC. I came back to Lego in 2011 with LOTR. Last week I bought my first Star Wars set, the new A-wing. It was amazing and made me excited about the theme. I want to get a few more sets but wanted some suggestions. I like OT/PT about equal, maybe leaning OT. I have heard great things about the Xwing Starfighter and the most recent TIE. I want a v wing but should I get the current one or wait for the new one this year? Are there any sets I should jump on while they are available or should I wait for May the 4th sales? I also would like a ARC 170 fighter but I guess they are not available. I really like the vehicle component of the Star Wars line and look for well built sets like the A wing. Also a lot of the sets I want are sold out so if I don't wait I will lose out on the VIP points which are nice to have towards bigger sets in the future. Thanks for your responses! I just spent two days reading this entire thread to get a better more informed perspective on Star Wars Lego. -
Exactly, as much as I prefer characters like Thranduil, Bard or Smaug on the cover, this set comes with a legolas poly and coincides with this cover. I wish Lego made a few more exclusives so we have opportunities to collect new characters or variants. Also some new stuff would tie us over until more info gets released.

Middle-Earth Madness - Minas Morgul vs Gray Havens [Week 9]
Mahtion replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Grey havens! It would be the quintessential end of the line set. An exclusive Cirdan and Old Bilbo would be great to have and maybe a white print Elrond and a Galadriel repack. It could have the elvish harbor with some dome building and a terrace. Of course the elvish white ship will be the best part of the set. Overall it could be as big a seller as Bag End. -
Exactly! We already have Dinohunters which was a knockoff of Jurassic Park down to the iconography and concept.

Atreyu, I would be curious which forums these are that you are referencing. It would be nice to see more LOTR/Hobbit lego fan perspectives and information.

Lego Hobbit Video Game Exclusive Minifigure Announced
Mahtion replied to mrfootball's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Agreed. Keep in mind a Dain was reported in the BoFA set of wave 3. This exclusive variant is growing on me but now I want the Target blue coat variant. -
True but the same can be said of Bilbo in his coat. The same level of detail is 'missing' from Thranduil who has an odd color green instead of the metallic like print or Elrond who wears vambraces, shoulder armor, open sleeves and heavy leather gauntlets. I am not saying the Preorder Bilbo will is indicative of future use of arm printing but many other characters deserve the same printing if not more in comparison.

Lego Hobbit Video Game Exclusive Minifigure Announced
Mahtion replied to mrfootball's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I will play this like I did LOTR Lego video game. Never know if we may seem some previews of new molds or figs for wave 3. I wouldn't preorder the game just for a bilbo variant, not that exciting. I would have preferred a new character we may not ever see. -
So in that case promotional items are good for the final Hobbit film. It would be odd to keep the polys for LOTR unless they really wanted to get people excited for its return in 2015.
