Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Nyx, dear, what do you have to say? And Sir Trout?" -
Could have changed hands after that! Sandy responded to it, so perhaps it too happened! It's an interactive game, things like this happen.
-
I'll make sure to take you both along on a quest! I have a quest I think you'd both like!
-
Look, I'm just saying, he drank AT LEAST one bottle of beer in every room of the building, apparently.
-
Is it possible that Mandric drank himself to death?
-
Rumble Strike, if you'd like help balancing enemies (or even running battles) PM me! I'd love to help out, and I won't be doing anything myself until Wren kicks off in over a month (though sign-ups will be going up beginning of December!!).
-
Man, poor little Hybros is just carrying an abundance of weapons from Zoot. Question - will we be hearing more of Hybros' origins soon, JimBee? It featured heavily at first, but has (right-fully) taken a back seat. I'd love to see some of it again soon!

Hey, this is why we change up the Party Leaders! Sometimes getting all that gold is a good thing, but sometimes it makes your party leader hold out on you.

"I was unaware that "Critical Hit" and "Weak Breeze" were synomonous." Those sassy sassy Proggs!

Buckle in, it should take you a few days... but they're worth it, if I do say so myself. My suggestion for enemy balancing... and I've said this before, but make enemies that pack a punch. Make your heroes plan. Enemies with high SP and health work well as support people, but if they have low strength, there's no point, the battle will just take forever. In theory, I think, if your party has two bad rounds in a row, at least one of them should be knocked out. That will keep the battle dynamic. It forces them to scramble to figure out who should use what items and when and in what order. Strong enemies that can floor heroes make them think, and if they can be taken out quickly as well, that's good, because sitting around and beating down the same enemy for a week and a half real time is boring, IF the battle doesn't change in that time.
-
Again, I recommend that you read Dastan. We tried to have heroes fight each other twice, both times when they thought the other side had been duped. They refused to fight the first time, and then fought an incredibly quick and bloody battle that remains one of my favorites in Heroica history. (Using a drop from an enemy to kill an ally).
-
Looks great! Make sure you read over Dastan for parties in the same space - I would be happy to advise you on that front, as I'm sure JimBee or BD would be willing to do. Don't want to help balance too much in case I end up going. What if Nyx headed up the opposite team... or Atramor. Would both be fun for Boomingham to compete with! I suggest that you also allow people to pick their own teams, as I did for Guffington!

Interesting. I guess Boomingham and Guts will have a thing or two more to discuss when they meet again! I've never included any character story in the Quests I host. I wonder if I should or will one day. It's an interesting technique if done in a none intrusive way, such as like this, or as Etzel does with the Paladin Order. Just gives a little hint or flavor of background while standing on it's own as well. EDIT: Ugh, Etzel, stop having such friggin beautiful MOCs!!

OoC: Spread this belief* So many people on this site speak English so well it's hard to remember it's not their first language. I'm lost in the language I studied. Sorry to be nit-picky, just telling you so you know for the future! "You can count Lord Lawrence Boomingham on your side. Your beliefs are the same as mine." -

Boomingham smiles slightly. He paces towards the ghost. "High Priest, hear me. This Pseudos of your's sounds like a being I could like. You say that he was once great, and that he is no longer. He needs a champion? And he believes in the good and just, but not in good and evil. He fights cruelty, not greed, but cruelty. Do I hear you right, Ghost? If this is so, you have found yourself a champion. I've never been one for Gods, but that is only because I believe that we make our own way in the world. This Pseudos sounds like he shares this belief. A shepherd, not a commander. Do I understand correctly?" -
I am also super intrigued by Psuedos. Scuba, when the quest has concluded, we'll have to talk. I would like to make a request to Sandy. Can we include the extra deities in the Library topic, with notes that they are only worshipped in certain parts of the world? Such as Akkaba, and now Psuesdos?

And the numbers dwindle! I love it! Great photographs and story! -
Quest # Final Wren Quest has been approved by Sandy. We're ready to go! Question for the interim - What is the best composed party so far? Which Quest had the best party for role playing, power balance, etc. I think it's interesting to think about, and I know I always put parties together in my head that might interest me. Some of my favorites were 28, 19, 6, 4, the one with all the rogues in Triad Park... but that's quite literally off the top of my head.

Boomingham grunts and glances around with his eye narrowed, but sees nothing out of place. He picks up the items left behind by their foes. "Never got to ask them which deadie we bothered. Oh well. Ellaria, your wish is my command, here's that ectoplasm you wanted. Rufindel, Nyx and Atramor, you each get on of these weapons... let's say mace to Nyx, claw to Rufindel, and Sword to Atramor. Those should make up for some gold imbalances from before. Look how shiny they are. Ogre, the hood is yours." -

"I lead the charge, boy. Fall in behind me, you might have a better chance of whacking him while he's got his eyes on me, assuming these monsters have eyes." Battle Order Boomingham Atramor Skrall Ellaria Rufindel Nyx OoC: If Nyx ends up being not injured due to the sealing, as I believe, you can all go ahead and attack. -

I believe that the sealed effect should prevent Nyx from getting banged up in the way she did. As far as enemies goes, bound prevents normal damage, sealed protects against special damage. But, luckily we have Sandy in this quest to make a final ruling. This is what happens when you allow so many QMs to play in your quest. "Thank you, Ellaria. Move on to Nyx. Nyx, you're healing yourself. Rufindel, also heal Nyx. Chances are good that one of you three will heal her. Nyx, if someone heals you before you heal yourself, join Atramor the Ogre and I in putting down our remaining friend." Boomingham whirls towards the Suffering, still holding his Frozen Sabre. -

OoC: Generally people who are revived by phoenix essence get to act, I assume this is the same. If I'm by chance remedied, I'd finish my swing. -
Yeah, its been over half a year since he last pipped up, I figure now was as good as any a time to remind people he exists!

"How are you?" asks a voice in Boomingham's head as he stands frozen, sword raised. Boomingham is unable to respond. He stares ahead as the ghost floats off. "Have you missed me? No... you never really doubted I was gone, did you now Lawrence? Or at least that's what you said. I can sense you, Lawrence. We're connected. I am your angel you know, you old fool. You can't lie to me so easy. You are such a fan of lying. A habit we'll have to break you from, I'm afraid." Boomingham's arm aches in its frozen position. The tittering voice keeps talking. "How are your illusions of grandeur? How goes the life of the once great general Lawrence Boomingham? Frozen by a ghost in a basement in a far off land? What was it that you struck me down for, again? 'You are no King. Your Kingdom is dead. You are forgotten. You have nothing. And you fill it with meaningless nothings. You are nothing. You are a void. You don't matter. You are nothing.' Have you proven me wrong, your lordship? Has your kingdom, your honor, your family, your meaning returned? Have you found it fighting ghosts and running errands? You cling to the past, Lawrence. Let me lead you to your future. There is still greatness out there. You simply seek it the wrong way. You could be champion of light. You slew Bluehood. He offered you greatness, and yet you refused. Why? Who do you champion, Lawrence? What matters to you? What will you be known for, who will you protect? You claw desperately at the world, trying to cling to it. Give up. Serve as a tool for those higher than you, be remembered as a tool of light that shattered the darkness... I can feel you resisting, Lawrence. You doubt me. You wish to grow great another way, though you cannot even see that path. My god orders my return to you soon, though I delay. You are a tiresome charge, Lawrence. Say hello to Nyx for me. Beware that chicken." "Go.......... return when you are ready........ to learn from me........ Barty........" Boomingham manages to hiss out, but the voice offers no response. -
I don't think I'd be wrong in saying that special guard has quite literally never worked for Boomingham. Good luck, party! I'm joining Rufus in the quiet observer group.
