Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Zepher replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Sorry, that's just my weird wording for "takes any effects/damage associated with special damage". So, no, only whatever special damage outlines. -
Shapes and feel are awesome. No complaints what-so-ever about the Supermobile, I really think you got it right on. The picture, however, needs some of that white swoosh. Don't know how you'd add it, but the picture would be ten times better with it built in. Other than that, superb job.

Could have cheated the presepective a little more. The characters need to be bunched together more, and on different levels (should be black-and-white reporters, then up maybe three bricks, then political dude, then three more bricks, THEN Justice Leauge, and all of that pretty much back to back to back). The picture could also benefit from a downward looking up angle, as in the cover. It would make it more dynamic and fun. HOWEVER, as I said in the other thread, I LOVE your figures, and it looks like you had fun making it!

Those figures are instantly recognizable and look stylized, which is a major pull of comic book art. It looks like you had fun doing it, which is what comics are all about. Way to go!

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Zepher replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
It used to be for the next round, but Sandy preferred to put it into effect that same round. Maybe if there's enough clamor, we can change it. I think it works better for the next round as well, strategizing. It's like a majorly unbuffed guardian angel. The jinxed effect would be far to strong to last for three rounds if given by the miss roll. -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

Well, they thrive in it a bit too. But yes, Regulator sounds better. That has been Sandy's major complaint every time I've shown him the class. The name is not up to Sandy standards. -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Zepher replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Very close to the final version (if not the final version). The third job trait for either side has yet to be approved. Can anyone think of a better name for the class, or anything that you REALLY REALLY think is missing? Feedback would be appreciated (especially since some of you could potentially be playing as it in the near-future). Chaos Defenders * Additional Health: +12 * Job Trait(s): See Below * Battle Style: Chaos Defenders are deeply troubled by the force they are sworn to fight, and so switch between Chaos and Order. *Weapons: Axes, Daggers, Greatswords, Hammers, Longswords, Staves, Shields ORDERED: Job Trait – Order: Deals Light Elemental Damage, Diplomacy: Defenders often times must work with others to stop chaos. Calculating Mind: The Chaos Defender may use 1 item in addition to other actions in the first round of each battle. 1. SHIELD: Internal Conflict – The Chaos Defender goes through inner conflict, changing their battle style. They become Chaotic. While making the change, the Chaos Defender halves their opponent’s current health. 2. RALLY: The Defender attacks the enemy with a power equal to their weapon power added to their level. The party rallies and are safe from free hits the remainder of the round. 3. HIT: The Chaos Defender attacks the target with strength equal to their weapon power added to their level. 4. OPTIMISM: The Chaos Defender is safe from free hits the remainder of the round. 5. DEFENDED DAMAGE: The Defender takes damage equal to the enemy’s level minus the Defender's SP. 6. SPECIAL DAMAGE: The Chaos Defender is struck by its opponent’s special skill and takes damage minus the Defender's SP. CHAOTIC: Job Trait – Order: Deals Darkness Elemental Damage. Intimidation: Chaos Defenders can scare others into helping them to prevent chaos. Wild Mind: The Chaos Defender may deal a free unblock-able hit (equal to WP+Lvl) to one enemy in the first round of each battle in addition to other actions. 1. SHIELD: Internal Conflict – The Chaos Defender goes through inner conflict, changing their battle style. They become Orderly. While making the change, the Chaos Defender brings the opponent to half of their current health. 2. CHAOTIC STRIKE: The Chaos Defender feints and slips past the target to hit a random enemy with strength equal to (WPx3+Level). The random enemy is not considered targeted by the Chaos Defender. 3. CRITICAL HIT: The Chaos Defender attacks the target with strength equal to (WPx2+Level). 4. PESSIMISM: The target is jinxed for the following round. 5. DEFENDED DAMAGE: The Defender takes damage equal to the enemy’s level minus the Defender’s SP. 6. SPECIAL DAMAGE: The Chaos Defender is struck by its opponent’s special skill and takes damage minus the Defender's SP. -
Reminding me of that just made me look back over all the enemies for the final Wren Quest. Hm... got to make sure you don't cripple any of them permanently before they make their mark. Luckily, many of them are immune to insta-kill. On a side note, sign-ups should be up as soon as Sandy gets back. Hopefully. We're still workshopping the Wren Class, but other than that, we're pretty much ready to go. QMs, if I contacted you, consider getting that project done semi-soon if you're still interested. Etzel is the only one to have gotten back to me with it, and it looks stunning, so get your hats in the ring too!

I like Haldor overall. Maybe because I've hosted him twice and he's always been a fun time... but who knows? He's stubborn and opinionated but still noble and strong. He's really into strength, as in it seems to really appeal to him (both moral and physical strength) and I don't think there are enough characters who lust after that (there are those that lust after power, but I'd argue that's different). If you feel like you are slipping (ever, this isn't Haldor related) I advise going back and reading your old quests. It's fun for starters, so there's no reason to not do it, but it will also remind you of character traits. Real people have things (sayings for example) that they drop for a while and then bring back. I think it works for characters well. It will help you take what you have now and reinforce it with what you used to have as a character and sort of merge them. It allows for growth, but also keeps you in check. I reread Boomingham quests often, and also reread all the previous Wren quests before hosting one to make sure I have all plot points and to make sure I remember how characters speak, what they believe, who they worship as deities (that's always a tough one to remember), and who they've met.

Advice to all QM's: READ OTHER QUESTS. Some people have already designed some AWESOME drops/specials. Steal them. The amount of unique drops out there is awesome, but I'm sure no one would complain if another lifestealer popped into existence. Soon it's going to get crazy with the amount of different unique items out there. Reuse the ones you like! Same for specials. I'm finishing off the Wren Quest (still... I keep making it harder ), and shopping around for specials I like. Some QMs already have designed amazing specials. STEAL THEM. People on my quest, for a preview of some of the specials you'll face, read 35, 42, 48 (a lot) and 14... and any other Wren Quest. No reason to not reuse things, especially because you see how they work in battle already and you can judge if you think they were fun/challenging/could have used some sort of complimenting ally/effect.

Jebs is gone though. I think he was displeased that he didn't get to steal a scroll. As for the steak, vampires better not get extra protection. The item was made to kill vampires. There's only one of it. When it encounters a vampire, I want to see it work. It can't be upgradable though... can it? If it is, it's fantastic, because weapons that work for any class are game changers. You can change class willy-nilly with no consequence.

Heartlake Heartbreak - Signup Thread
Zepher replied to Darkdragon's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Previous experience? Lots. Check my profile... but even that doesn't have everything. I have a tag to prove people sometimes like it when I play in their games. I should be able to post every day. Hopefully. Every game day, certainly. Everyday RL... most likely. Being honest. Finals are coming up, but they don't seem impossible. Hopefully someone will knock me off before Wren reappears, but even then this game shouldn't run over that Quest for too long, so we look to be in the clear. Really. Steak. -
"Relatively good, I'd say."

Boomingham swats at the little pest around his head. "Don't know what I did to deserve this little fellow punishing me again, but he's back alright. And the drinks were for Hoke, Atramor and I... though seeing as Hoke has bowed out." Boomingham downs to of the drinks. He belches. "Yes, Nyx and I go way back. I think she may be one of the first people I met here... though I don't know if she was quite as taken with me as she is now." He gave his friend a little wink. "Atramor and I actually quested together on our first quest, but were very recently reunited. What are you folks thinking of doing next? Doesn't seem to be anything on the board. Anyone up for a game of odds or wit or skill?"
-
That was the ruling a while ago (that it came into effect the next round) but it has since changed. Effects come into effect immediately.
-
"Right you are, my boy. I haven't had a drink since our return from Strivvi. Shall we see who can hold their liquor better? Perhaps in some form of contest? Would you like to join, Hoke? A battle of the wills, or minds, or something?" Boomingham held up a hand indicating he wanted three drinks. "Any suggestions for a game in which we drink often in large amounts? Or perhaps something that will get some gold flowing? I have my eyes on some armor."

Poor Barty is just doing what he thinks his job is. Its not his fault that it makes him a total dick. He really believes what he says. That's his redeemable quality. He isn't evil... just... wrong. You got to figure that for an angel, humans do seem to have strangely short life spans. Why should they get to go back and forth between bad and good in such a short span of time?
-
"Of course. We only start the process for them, and then step back. The truly weak don't make it... but those in circumstances that hid their strength emerge-" "Redemption! Pah! You mortals live such short lives, redemption doesn't figure into it. You don't have time to change. Well, dragons perhaps, and certainly some of the longer living elves, but you humans, the U'Kin, the Rito, sprites, fairies, wolves, and even the dwarves, you don't have the capacity for change. Not enough time. You've got to weed the species, not the individual." "Then what are you doing here with me?" Boomingham asks, eyebrow cocked. Barty opens and closes his mouth and for one of the first times since his appearance, looks genuinely confused.

Haldor, as useless in questioning as he is in battle!

Guts is absolutely wonderful. He's a good guy, but also a bad guy. What more could you want? I'd also vote to add Pretzel to that list. He's so sure of himself, and so charismatic (and pretty sassy and clever, in all honesty) but he's also self-rightous. As an example of someone who plays a character who is kind of good and bad, I feel I ought to put some input. First, there is nothing wrong with playing an unlikable character. Everyone has some traits that bother others. Characters from WBD's category will have traits that bother other characters. I don't have a single friend that I like EVERYTHING about. We all disagree on different things. Over-all, we like each other though. That's what you do with your character. There is NOTHING in Boomingham that I find a condemning trait of a person (other than racism, but Boomingham is kind of wishy-washy on that because I like playing with WBD and Corny too much to cut them out of my game ). Over-all, there are traits that I disagree with, and many that I like. That's how you make a compelling character. Pick things you love, mix them with things you don't. I described to Flipz in PM how I came up with Boomingham, and I'll copy it here (anyone else, please share how you thought up your character). It is truly how I build all characters. Wren, my villain, is equally likable to me. She likes Chaos, and she's mentally wrong... but really, she just wants to enjoy beauty forever, and she really honestly believes that people can't change the world, they can just change their place in it. Felton, a hero from the Quest series I host has traits I love and hate as well. He's smart, cunning, sarcastic, respectful, dedicated... I love all of that. He's paranoid, an issue I myself experience. He's stubborn... something I both like and dislike. You can find it in all characters. Skrall is lovable, but also sometimes makes me sad. Cronk is silly and noble and loving, but he is stubborn. Arthur is enthusiastic, but he's a hothead. Docken is quiet and level-headed. That can be good, it can be bad. I'll leave you a few notes from one of my very favorite authors of all time. And I'll add my own advice. Write about things you care about. All my characters are characters I love, and they address issues I love. Chaos is something I believe in and love and appreciate. I am afraid of death. I share those things with Wren. I wish to beat death by being grand. I share that with Boomingham. I really love fun and games and I get excited easily. I share that with Poletad. Sometimes, I just like to let competent people take care of business, and I'll hop in where needed. I share that with Hans. It's easier when characters, while different than you, struggle and address the same issues you struggle and address. Ugh. Hopefully that's not too preachy. I love talking about writing.

Trouble in the Streets of Gotham: Conclusion
Zepher replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Some real fun play, and so real cool superheroes? Was I killed for being a dicky paradox, or did someone target me? I thought you'd make good use of my superhero name, Shadows. -
Yeah. Come on now, Greeks before Ridley Scott. Though I personally loved that movie. Understood why some people didn't, really truly did... but seriously, it really got me. Wrote a paper on it. This is why going to college for film writing is awesome.

People of Quest 52. You could really benefit from reading what your questmates are doing and also thinking a little. Anyone who can assassinate should be fighting Carlo with no questions asked. Backrow is never needed when there is protection, it just weakens attacks. I usually don't comment on current quests' puzzles or battles, but come on people, don't lose this battle. I want to see the rest of the quest. EDIT: Should have known Scuba would catch it. It just bothers me when people don't really read between rounds. It's not a terrible lot to read.

Dysfunctional friendships are always more fun than functional ones. Who wants to see people get along perfectly? I think friendships with competition are the best, because people push each other to be better that way, but maintain a feeling of safety and trust that comes with friendship. It actually is one of the subjects that Boomingham and I agree on. And hopefully your real-life commitments will clear up enough that XX and Nyx can have their reunion!
