I hate to rush it, I love the quest AND your sets AND your pictures AND the party, and HATE rushing things and QMs, but I did just realize recently how long we've been out a few days ago, and three months is by far the longest quest I've been on so far.

I'm going to buy you a new camera, Scuba. Will we be done by Decemberish? We've got a lot of people I really kind of need to take on the Final Wren Quest... and we have been questing for... three months already apparently (that was a bit of a shock... time flies when you're having fun!! ).

OoC: Don't worry, only three more wanted posters to come, and then the Hall shall be quiet from me again. Another Town Watch man filters into the room. He is an officer, and walks with a hobble. It takes a second to realize, but he is missing a leg. He grumbles a greeting to Scheherazade, clearly familiar with the hall to a certain degree. Johnny Everyman slouches down in his chair a little, but the man pays him no heed. He hobbles over to the board and tacks another wanted poster to it. He then walks out of the room quickly. Wanted: Zander, Prince of Power, Member of the Court of Demons

Exactly! Quest 19 remains my favorite party (absolutely NO SLIGHT to any other party I've led, but for whatever reason, I felt 19 had a really good dynamic) so I'm going to try to bring back as many people as I can!

Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
Boomingham scoffs. "I told you I'd get you a slave, didn't I, daughter. I've got too many children today." Boomingham raises his gloved hand. "100! Bid met!" -
Flipz, the description doesn't really read that way, so I'm going to have to say no, sorry.

Okay, after some minor thought/consideration, I have decided to include the clause of perma-KO in the Final Wren Quest. It will, however, only come in to affect a little before half-way, so very worse come to very worse, you will only miss out on a little more than half the battles. That is, again, assuming you're taken out immediately after the rule comes into place.
-
Again, roleplaying would still be there, as would strategy. You simply would not be in the battle order or acting during the battles, but your roleplaying would not be slowed at all (it would actually probably give you more fuel). Does that change how you feel? Or still not appealing? Please, people outside the quest, weigh in too, I want to make sure its fun for everyone, but want to include as many people as possible!
-
Oh, absolutely! There is some risk in it! I want some risk. If you're not scared during a Wren quest, I'm doing something wrong!!
-
That would not allow me to expand the numbers though. The whole idea would be that the number of characters for me to balance would go down. You would still be able to interact with the rest of the party, however! Just would have to sit out battles. And again, I doubt it would come up until later parts of the quest, a total of two weeks out if at all would be my prediction. As for disabilities... those will be occurring in the quest currently anyway. I released the two specials soul sucker and back breaker (perma-sealed and perma-unable to use physical attacks). The hope with this mechanic is raising the stakes AND allowing me to take more players. And there is no protection on Wren Quests! All that being said, thank you for the feedback, I will certainly take everything into account, I don't want to dissuade players who would come. All you'd be losing out on would be exp, really. The interaction element would still be there, and you could still help strategize!
-
That's why I take (almost) all the pictures ahead of time. I actually NEED to get to certain events before I leave again for college. You will all be making choices that effect later parts of the quest... and if I don't have the pictures prepared... well, there are a few variations of WHICH NPCs (both friendlies and enemies) might be alive at certain points, so I need to get up to the point where you've either saved or killed the lot of them, so I know who to include in later pictures and who to not include. That's one opinion in!
-
I will (possibly) be including a new game mechanic in the Final Wren Quest, IF Sandy okay's it (poor dude has got like 4 PMs from me... I get too enthusiastic) AND if players would be interested. This is for everyone, but particularly for those eligible for the final Wren Quest. Heroes who remain KO'd at the end of a battle will be REMOVED from the Quest. They may return to the hall (or continue to roleplay within the quest), but will be too "injured" to go on a quest until the Wren Quest is over. They will still receive the reward for the quest, should it succeed. Would people be interested in this? The benefit would be a) higher stakes, and b) I could take more players. I also doubt ANYONE would be knocked out early in the quest, but rather would be able beaten out in the final stages if at all. I would feel comfortable raising the cap from the current 8 to 10 or 12 if this rule was in place. So... thoughts?

A town watch man, clearly unsure on how Heroica works, walks into the room nervously. He approaches the Quest Board and tacks a sign to it before leaving. There is no quest pitch, just a wanted sign. The heroes ignore it, for the most part, too excited about the Quests they will soon be departing on. Only Johnny Everyman bothers to glance up, but he just shrugs and downs a shot of whiskey. Wanted - Zane, Fool to the Court of Demons

With only four entries waiting to be completed for the Dastan Trilogy, I think I can confidently say that a) we killed BY FAR the most NPCs in those quests, and b) the Battle of Drakencourt was the most participated battle for all NPCs. I think at least 20 NPCs were involved in the battle, with only about half escaping with their lives.

Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job

Boomingham raises an eyebrow. "The map is a concrete lead. The crates were found by the town guard. They haven't done us much use yet." Boomingham glances over at Zoe. "You don't suppose any of these slaves might be Mortimor... do you?" -

"I agree with Ellaria. I don't think I can stomach much more of this. If you all are unwilling to attack, and Zoe doesn't recognize these slaves, we'll head off to that marked spot on the map. No reason to stick around if we're not doing anything of importance here." -

Boomingham spits on the ground. "Should have known you two would let the slavery continue. Fine, I won't do a thing. Let's wait around until one of the men show up, see what background Blackhawk gives about them." -
Druid is hand-downs one of the best classes. I genuinely believe that every party should have one. They can deal with any bad situation. They are by far the most logical leap for healers.

OoC: I'm sorry if we're missing something Scuba. If you're feeling like we aren't getting the objective, you can have Zoe yell at us a little... Boomingham taps Atramor on the shoulder and waits for him to turn around before addressing the two heroes with him. "Listen, we're not making any headway here. This is ridiculous. We can't allow this auction to continue, these could be our men but no one seems willing to talk, and I for one am not going to allow these poor slaves to be bought. Maybe I'm fighting an ailment of a bigger disease, but I plan to fight it anyway. Ellaria, I need you to go tell Skrall to wait for my mark, then you take Rufindel and get out of here. I'm not having you two hurt, and if I get captured or killed, I'd rather have some people unmarked so as to continue to mission. On your way out, tell Zoe to come speak to me here. If she wants me to not do this, she can outline a specific reason why not, and a better solution. Atramor, I'll leave it up to you if you want to stay or not. Same goes for Nyx, if anyone runs into her. If battle starts, I'm sure she'll know if she wants to stand by me or get out of here." Boomingham glanced at the huge Ogre, his eyes screwed up, his eyebrows raised. "Something tells me Skrall will be willing to stand by me, but perhaps not. We shall see. Atramor, if you don't want to stick around, I'll need one of your bombs. I'd like to start this battle with a bang. Point is, unless Zoe makes a very compelling argument along with a real course of action... I'm not standing for this auction any longer." -
I am interested to hear from other knights/paladins. For all my critiques, it is the most played AC, so people must find something appealing in it. Is it just for RP reasons? EDIT: That's what I'm talking about, Rumble! A home-picked team from your previous two quests! Can't wait to see what you've got for us!

I'd like to add my voice to Corny's. Knights are strangely generally a support class, which is weird because they seem like heavy-hitters at first. Paladins hit enemies 1/3 of the time. They also don't have anything interesting. You don't stun enemies, you don't confuse them, they don't power up through-out a quest... they're really flat... Paladin is the only class I can see Boomingham play as (especially now that Barty is around). The same is essentially true for the other Knight ACs. Berserker can pack a punch, but likewise only hits 1/2 of the time, and then after they hit an enemy they can't really strategize. Black Knights are slightly more interesting... but getting a good hit costs too much... AND they don't make money, which is the huge appeal of Rogue hybrid classes. We haven't seen too many Mystic Knights... they sort of intrigue me. Those last two aren't Boomingham at all though, so that won't be happening for a while. Warden is awesome. Also fairly bland, nothing exciting, but super powerful. Backrow, with potential to heal yourself, and still hitting 1/2 of the time, I'm deffers switching to it in the future when it makes sense.

Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job
Zepher replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Er, yeah, well since its your birthday, daddy will get you anything you want, dear," Boomingham says as he circles the stage with her and looks at the slaves. Something feels wrong. Zoe said not to do anything... "This is a message from both your old god and your fake god. We'll discuss that little mistake later. Stop this auction, Lawrence." The voice was quiet, in his head. Boomingham glances around but sees nothing. "Why'd you come back here?!" Boomingham whines. "Because this city is rotten and you can fix it." "Buzz off," Boomingham tells him, and yet he still uncorks a bottle of mead and downs it. He glances over at tall Skrall, and then at Atramor, near-by. Nyx was lost in the crowd. "What have you got for my daughter?" he demands of the slaver. -
Thank you, those were a lot of the buildings I was currently using for inspiration! I will send you a few images later tonight to see if you approve of the general look I've been developing!
