The dark dwarves took on the challenge. "Svartalfar! Let us dispose of these bolsterous eye-witnesses and get back to digging!" "Why are you always so prim and proper, boss? Dark Dwarves have actually been around since the beginning of the Fields of Glory - there's even a location named after them in the Northern Reaches (where you can obviously fight them, too). I liked the idea of them in my old brickcomic "Princess Quest" so much that I transferred them here. Who said the sinking of Mercution didn't have an effect on nearby coasts as well? Of course the sea level rised when a whole continent was destroyed. The wizard-priests of Ennon didn't care about the consequences - their kingdom was protected by tall mountains, after all. In my not-very-scientific mind, Mercution was a small continent (resting on its own continental plate). What is now Moone was it's northern tip, and the Free Islands used to be great mountains on its eastern edge. I'd also imagine the Crystalline Sea isn't very deep. There are several merfolk communities that have formed in the Mercutionian cities that got sunk, that has already been established. I one point thought about doing an underwater quest, but it doesn't quite fit any of my plotlines. So if anyone wants to host one, be my guest! Most of Nu Mercution was buried under the landslides caused by the spell and the ensuing tidal waves, but the Temple of Zoot remained mostly intact because the archdemons were guarding it.

It's been snowing here in Finland for this whole month, so I was probably subconsciously inspired by the mounts of snow we have here.

The arbormancer jolted as he was snapped out of his thoughts. "Huh? Well, I..." At that moment something pushed out of the flowerbed. It was a shovel, followed by the head of a dwarf. And not just any dwarf, but a dark dwarf - a breed of dwarves corrupted by the ancient Mercutionian magics running rampant in the tunnels deep under Uland. "Mole's egg dispenser! We missed our mark! Crafty, Sneaky, get up here!" "H-hey! You're ruining my flowers! Get out of there." Another dwarf popped up after the first, carrying a pickaxe. "Orrik's stony bollocks, Shifty! This ain't the Hinckwell Vault!" "I only followed your calculations, Sneaky! It's your damn fault!" A third dwarf followed suit, this one armed with a double-edged axe and wearing a winged helmet. He was obviously the leader of the trio. "Cut the gravel, you two! Our plot has been uncovered!" The dark dwarven boss pointed his axe at the arbormancer and the heroes. "I've been keeping those flowers alive for a month! You'll pay for this!" The young mage looked at the heroes. "R-right, guys?"

Haha, thanks! I figured that since Flipz is going to host a quest titled "Winter Wrap-Up", there should be at least some depiction of an actual winter in Eubric, too.

"I didn't have much in my possession at that time, but naturally there were servants involved. It was thirty years ago, so I can't possibly remember which ones." "I do give charity concerts from time to time, but I am not aware if I have any actual fans anymore. I am no Carly Swift, after all. I have no reason to believe my family or servants would wish ill for me, but of course the Hinckwells are not without enemies. I personally do not get involved in my husband's businesses, though." Without getting anything further out of Lady Hinckwell, the party headed to the Hanging Gardens. The park was built on the side of Sungold Hill, and it had several paths criss-crossing down the slope. It wasn't long before the party heard the familiar tune, hummed by a young arbormancer gardener tending to a flowerbed - an odd sight in the middle of a particularly cold winter. How would the party approach him?

In the interest of keeping Decamon a simple game that is easily manageable, this is the first suggestion that might actually work well. Something similar was suggested earlier, but only for the first round which seemed arbitrary. Maybe doing away with ties altogether would indeed be the best solution. I was also thinking about Elemental Momentum, meaning that the cards played earlier in the match with the same element would boost the current card with their number. It would give more meaning to hands with a single-element, but of course it wouldn't negate trumping. For example: 1st Round: Magic Carp (Aquatic 1) 2nd Round: Firefly (Fiery 2) 3rd Round: Wishing Starfish (Aquatic 4) +1 from Magic Carp 4th Round: Flamboa (Fiery 5) +2 from Firefly 5th Round: Shy Shell (Aquatic 2) +5 from Magic Carp and Wishing Starfish But I'll have to figure out if it really works or not...

Heroica RPG - Unlimited Quest: Fields of Glory
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
QM Note: Sorry, we had guests over yesterday so I didn't have time to update. I will autoroll the battle when I get back from work. Also note the rule that if one player wants to leave the Fields, the whole party has to do the same. -
Okay, enough with the tech support, please. We don't need to turn this topic into a "what antivirus program everyone is using", do we? On a matter more related to the game, now that the Decamon Tournament is over, what are your thoughts about it? Would you like to play one again in the future? What would you change? What would you keep? Any input is much appreciated!

Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits
Sandy replied to Flipz's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: Or you could just make this a normal battle, like the others have been. I hate to say this before the quest has concluded, but this grid battle seems awfully gimmicky without really adding the fun factor. But that is just my personal opinion.- 506 replies

"Thank you for the compliments, Mr. Bucks. Yes, as I wrote in the quest pitch, I've recently started hearing people hum and sing this same song with these same lyrics at the park and on the streets. I tried asking a few about it, but they just said they learned it from a friend or at a tavern. What comes to Taliesin, he left Uland thirty years ago, swearing he would never want to see my face again. If he still bears grudges thirty years later, then this would be a curious way to show it." "I did indeed sing it to him, but just once, as a way of saying I need to part ways with him. He obviously felt betrayed and sad, but it was so long ago... Surely a man with his looks would have found himself a new lover quickly. Besides, I never gave him the notes, so could he remember the song that precisely after all these decades? I kept them to myself, but when I moved into this house, the notes got lost somewhere. I've tried looking for them these couple of days, but I cannot find them anywhere. 'Tis a big house, I have to admit." Laureline bowed her head. "It would be unbecoming of me to run around the streets aimlessly after a silly old song, so that is where you come into the picture. I've most often heard the tune at the Hanging Gardens, the public park just outside our estate. May I suggest you start your investigation there?"

As the Tournament concludes, the onlookers begin to vanish one by one. Most of them were mildly disappointed to see the Emerald Emperor win the last match. The Receptionist makes a final announcement to those still lingering around. "ATTENTION! You. Have. 24. Hours. To. Trade. Your. Cards. Into. Prizes." ~AFTERMATH~ Once the hall had emptied from visitors, Roland Emeraldo walked to the two people who had helped him organize the event. "By gods it felt good to give that snotty fowlfeeder a good beating in that match! Hmm, do you think anyone noticed that almost all the contestants were from Eubric?" "What does it matter if they did? It was all just one overblown charade to find my sister's murderer, anyway." "Glimda-dear, the whole point was that people are much more susceptible to mind probing while they are focusing on other matters - and what would be a better distraction than my humble little card game?" "Of course you don't mind that your foolish game spreads even further on the side, do you? But enough about that. What have you got for us, Elphaba?" "A little gratitude would be in order. I did all the heavy lifting by controlling the spirits of time and space while scoping the minds of almost a hundred people at the same. If Grimelda had not been my best friend, there would have been no way I would have agreed to this. But yes, I did find out something. I got confirmation that it was the Wolfgang that killed her, just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And behind the Wolfgang is the Eatress - Barbariccia Dellamore." "Then the last thing this Barbariccia will eat is my poisoned blade!" "If Barbariccia was killed as easily as that, I would think she would be dead a thousand times over. It is a crying shame that those treacherous Heroicans destroyed the Tower of Babel. Within we could have discovered what she truly is and how we could defeat her." "Ladies, listen to me. As empowering as your vengefulness must be, you need to be smart about this. And luckily you are in the presence of the cleverest man in Olegaia. Let me organize a meeting with Ulric Wolfkin and talk to him, crime lord to crime lord. I assure you, this Barbariccia will not know what hit her until it is too late. Your Emperor will serve you her head on a platter, just you see." The two others glanced at each other, but said nothing.

On a wintry day, three heroes of Heroica arrived to the Hinckwell Villa. They were escorted to the room where the lady of the house was waiting for them. "So, you are the three gentlemen that answered my call", said Laureline Hinckwell in her soft, melodic voice. "Welcome to the Hinckwell Villa, and more specifically, the Music Hall, where I keep my instruments. Unfortunately I get a chance to play them all too seldom nowadays, for my duties as the wife of the wealthiest merchant in the city keep me busy... But I digress. The song that is in question has never been played under this roof, in any case. It has been almost thirty years since I composed it. I was a silly young girl back then, with my head up in the clouds. His name was Taliesin, fair of hair and blue of eye, and we formed quite a duet when we performed together in various taverns around Uland. However, my dreams were bigger than his. When I was approached by Heinrich to perform in this very house, I couldn't refuse. However, the invitation was for me only. Taliesin was upset, we argued, and later that night I found myself from Heinrich's arms." With a hint of sadness in her smile, Laureline walked to the grand piano standing in the middle of the room. "I chose fame and fortune over my first love. This song I wrote for Taliesin, and I call it Lovebird." Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits
Sandy replied to Flipz's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: Whatever happened to the quirky, fun, little Halloween quest we were supposed to be on? Are the Golem Rangers supposed to be encouraged, too? I can't see how we can even survive one round of this battle, if they all get Free Hits on us just because we can't reach them... "Sylvania have mercy..." Ellaria gasps as she sees the room full of golems they have wandered into. "Alright, I spot nine enemies in sight. The rangers seem to be lethal to just about any one of us. Maybe I can take them down a notch..." Ellaria moves to J25 and tosses a Neutralizer at Golem Skirmisher (Dark Grey) from the back row, praying it will affect the rangers as well. Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Sandy replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
I never said that. The discussion was about the earlier version of the "2" roll, SUBDUED HIT. Shields can be switched without taking a turn, but you cannot attack without a shield and immediately equip a shield back on the same turn. You either have the shield on for the round or you don't. It's the same way nobody can attack with one weapon and immediately equip another weapon within the same turn. -
No, the Trendy Handbag only protects from the effect that was last cast on someone else - ally or enemy. That's the whole point of the artifact; you're following a trend in the battle. Otherwise it would just be an artifact that makes you immune to all effects. Like the rules say, *Immune to Magic* makes you immune to all elements as well as other attacks that consume ether - that includes weapons imbued with elements, scrolls, Battle Songs, enemy Specials that use ether etc. It does not include healing, because it is not an attack (although for balance reasons it probably should). *Immune to Elements* just makes you immune to all elements. *Immune to Physical* makes one immune to non-elemental damage, just like undead enemies are by default.

Looks great - consider it approved! I personally don't have any quests in the plans that could offer it as a reward, but perhaps you do. Btw, there's a few typos at least in the "Battle Style" sentence, besides it being in all italics: "protet" and punishmen".
