  2. "Very well", Bellanotte answered, looking distressed. "Good luck writing the article, I guess..." She still had no idea who the heroes were and what they had actually wanted. Although it was late, the heroes returned to the Hinckwell Villa to bring their findings to Lady Hinckwell. The guards told them she was still up, but when they approached the Music Hall, they heard familiar voices inside. "Blasted! This still isn't the vault!" "Get out of here this instant, you filthy cretins! Guards!" But the heroes were faster than the guards, and upon recognizing the dark dwarf's voice they ran into the room with their blades ready. This time they did not have to face the dwarves alone, for Laureline had her instruments nearby, ready to smite the burglars with her battle songs. PREPARE FOR BATTLE! 3. "Have you given up on your dreams, sir? What a terrifying look on life, whinny... If a vial of Crimson Haze (Causes a weapon to deal the poisoned by 7- and cursed-effects permanently) would restore your hope, I can sell you one for 1400 gold." "Do you take me for a fraud, whinny? I am devastated... Unikitty wants to spread joy and happiness everywhere by making dreams come true, and I want to help her! Honest as a horse, neigh! In any case, one lump of exquisite Raw Meat (+5 max health) would cost you 500 gold."
  4. Oh yes, more quests would definitely be appreciated! I have a follow-up for Quest#100 coming up, but it is for experienced folk. Also, I had spare time this weekend, so I wrote a whole bunch of NPC articles for the Wiki. Head there if you want to familiarize yourself with the characters I've created - there's even some new info thrown in some of them.
  5. Yay! An alchemist at last - and with a beehive hair too! Also, it's an excellent read on Hybros' background story. I merely helped with the pics and the dialogue with Ellaria. We did a fine job together, JimBee! *gives a virtual high five*
  6. Sorry, didn't mean to get snappy at you. You should've just asked the real question in the first place. It means the weapon pierces all barrier-type specials as well, so it is always guaranteed to hit if the roll is successful (and the user is not under any negative effect).
  7. If it would ignore row, it would say so...
  8. QM Note: This has to be a collective decision. You obviously cannot get both reputations, and neither can you get a successful quest unless you tell Laureline the truth. CC, please bold the final choice so I know for sure what it is you have decided to do.
  9. "I beg of you, nobody must know! If people found out my brother has gotten love songs as a gift from a Hinckwell..." Bellanotte gasped again. "What if our father found out?! Please, I'll do anything for you if you just don't release this to the public." QM Note: If you keep Bellanotte's secret, the quest will fail but you will get Shadeaux reputation. If you tell the truth to Laureline, the quest will be successful and you will gain Hinckwell reputation. "Yes, she doubled the beauty of that song...Darnit..." Bellanotte still twisted her hands in despair, waiting for the heroes' answer.
  10. "He is upstairs, but he is probably asleep by now. He likes to get a good night's sleep. But he has zero musical abilities, so even suggesting that he wrote the song is absurd. No, he got it as a gift from his friend, Lyren Hi..." Bellanotte suddenly gasped slapped her hand over her mouth. "Umm, I probably shouldn't have told you that. I promised I wouldn't tell anyone. Oh gods..."
  11. Bellanotte blushed. "Oh, I know it well. It was I who gave the notes for that song to Carly. I got them from my brother, who asked me to play the song for him. I thought it was so beautiful that I wanted Carly to sing it. My feeble voice could not do it justice... Apparently it became an instant hit, but I do not want to take any credit for it. I just want to spread the beauty of that song. Could you please not mention about it on your article?"
  12. QM Note: You are already on the second floor. The unicorn girl blocked Althior's way to the stairs. "I am sorry, whinny, but I cannot let you into the attic. It is too scary up there. The beasts that dwell there... I don't want Lilly to get hurt. Neigh! But listen, there is something else I can do for you. I am here to grant you wishes on behalf of my friend Unikitty. I can only grant one wish per person, though, so consider carefully. Neeeigh!" ~EQUESTRIA'S DREAM SHOPPE BRANCH~ Equestria offers each hero a chance to buy any single pre-existing consumable item they wish. Each hero names the item they want, and Equestria name's the price.
  13. "Are you three from the Eubric Herald? My father said I shouldn't answer interviews for the paper... He says you reporters like to twist words to your own liking. But your question is innocent enough, so my answer would have to be... hmm... oh! I just love 'My White Knight'! It's so romantic!"
  14. Returning to the shops at the Marketplace after a long while, Ellaria goes to Anwyl first to take out the Amethyst from the Skull Shield (SP:6; immunity to Darkness-elemental damage; suitable to Black Knights only; shield.) for 50 gold. She then proceeds to sell the Skull Shield, Quill Pen (WP:1, retrievable throwing weapon), Spear (WP:6), Halberd (WP:6) and Mace (WP:5) for a total of (30+5+30+30+25=120 gold). (350-50+120=420 gold) She then goes to Fabian and offers Sterile Gloves (immunity to poisoned and bleeding, handwear), Black Bandana (Power +3, pirate lingo; headwear) and Paper Doll (Protects from hexed; accessory) for sale, asking (40+60+20=120 gold) for them. Fabian agrees to the price. (420+120=540 gold) Ellaria then purchases Robe of the Magi and Rubber Gloves from Fabian for (30+300=330 gold). (540-330=210 gold) Finally she returns to Anwyl and upgrades her Wooden Alchemist's Hammer (WP:8 wood-elemental hammer, hollow [-]) - which she had renamed "Geppetto's Hammer" - to WP:10 for (90+100=190 gold). (210-190=20 gold)
  15. "Just away from here", Lilly snapped in defense. "She was being oxnobsious!" Lilly then stormed out of the kitchen and ran up the staircase, and the heroes had little choice but to follow her. On the second floor landing they encountered a curious person. "Equestria! Is it really you? I thought I had lost you forever!" Lilly shouted as she saw the girl dressed in a unicorn suit. "Neeeigh! It is I, Lilly. But I have never left you. I have always been with you, ever since you were a baby." Lilly began to sob and ran to hug the unicorn girl. "There, there... Whinny..." What would the heroes say?
  16. Bellanotte smiled shyly at Bobby's scrambling. "Pleased to meet you, Young Bucks. I am Bellanotte, as you probably know since you came to see me." "Oh yes, as often as I can! But you see, I have this condition... we call it Le Malheur. It prevents me from going out in daylight, so I am pretty much stuck inside this mansion when everyone else are up. But every time Carly performs after sundown, I go see her. Well, except tonight. My father did not let me. Said I needed to study more, because I'm behind my twin brother Nuitan in my studies. At least he got to attend to an actual school... before it vanished and came back in ruins, that is."
  17. It should be just the level you are on. The decimals are only there to calculate your progress towards the next level, they are not part of your level (ie. you can't round your level up based on the decimals).
  18. Bobby's theory turned out to be right when the compass took the party to the other side of the city to Chateau de Shadeaux on top of Crescent Hill. The guard was hesitant to let them in at such late hour, but when they informed they were from Heroica and wanted to meet Miss Shadeaux, he agreed to escort them to her. The pale daughter of Count Shadeaux was currently at the study, solving equations with the aid of her tutor. "Miss Bellanotte, concentrate! I can see your mind wandering when it should be filled with numbers!" "I am sorry, Professor Vesper. It's just that the concert was tonight. I really wanted to go, but father insisted I catch up with my algebra. I don't know what I'm supposed to do with arithmetics if my fate is to rot in this house for the rest of my..." The young woman then noticed they had guests. "Oh! I apologize, gentlemen! I did not see you there." "Hmm, more distractions. We better call it a night, Miss Bellanotte. See you tomorrow." Bellanotte bid farewell to her teacher before turning her attention back to the heroes. "What is it you wanted?" Party: Darksten (Comrade Commander) 35 year old male human Ranger *Party Leader* Level 15 *Immune to poisoned, bleeding, cursed, jinxed and blinded* Power: 19 (15+4) Defense: 2 Health: 21/21 (6+14+1) Gold: 452 Equipment: Spider String Bow (WP:4, darkness-elemental bow), Sand-Worm Hide (SP: 2, bodywear), Tribal Amulet (Wearer is immune to poisoned, bleeding, cursed, jinxed, and blinded; suitable to barbarians, rangers, beast warriors; accessory) Inventory: Weapons: Crossbow (WP:6) Artifacts: Safety Blanket (SP:1, protects from Afraid, backwear), Vampire Cape (Halves damage from undead enemies; backwear) Spell Items: Murder on the Dancefloor (Has 1/6 chance of instantly knocking out each opponent (unless immune to sudden death) when sung; costs 30 ether per round; Battle Song) Consumables: 7x Potion, Health Core, 6x Remedy, Elixir, Phoenix Essence, 4x Mead, 2x Smelling Salts, 2x Nostrum, Soma, Ambrosia, Root Beer (Restores 10 health, or can be used as a bomb against undead enemies for 20 damage. 19. "I already answered this question," Byblos says, growing even more irritated at Quarion. "It ain't my fault if you were not listening to a word I said. Besides, you are not even a member of Heroica. You should not be here to begin with. Will you leave me be now, or shall I summon Bookmark to see you out?"
  20. Yesh, more Dragon Lands goodness! Taking the fey folk into the equation is a great and very original move - and gives you a whole new color palette to work with. The brick-built golem is an awesome start!
  21. Byblos's eyes widened as he saw the skull float in and call him names. "I shall answer your question with a question: what makes you think I will tell anything to a skull that insults me? I must inform you that I am a Metasimian, not a monkey. I do not throw my feces around. But very well, I will not succumb to your level of degration, so I shall answer you in earnest. If you would have asked me about criminal organizations a couple of years ago, I would have had a short answer for you: there is the Wolfgang, and then there are few other criminals that try not to get in their way. Things have changed since then, as the Wolfgang seems to have turned away from robbery and murder, and rather trying to get some sort of monarchy installed to this city. This has given a new chance to the remnants of the other crime organizations, like the Bloodpaw and the Metasimian Gang - to which I have zero connections with - to get back in the business. In a city without laws, it is not easy to define crime, anyway. There is a common morale that you should not stab random people in broad daylight nor take what isn't yours, but there are no impartial judges to determine who is guilty of what. So if someone offends you, you must either have a personal army or at least a really burly cousin to get back at the perpetrator. You can always try to get the Town Watch to help you, but their competence level is questionable at best. A decade ago, they might have robbed you themselves, but much of the corruption seems to have been eradicated from their ranks. Is that all you wanted to know, random floating skull?"
  22. Come on, now. The quest wasn't horrible. It just wasn't structured in a way that really suited this kind of gaming. This was only your second quest, and if I make similar mistakes on my twentieth quest, you can surely be forgiven. I'm not one to write in-depth analyses, but I can give you my personal pros and cons for this quest. + The ending hit home. Especially once I (almost) figured out what was going on. For me, it was the perfect "oh, that's what's going on!" moment you were probably looking for. + It was thematically sound, with the conflict of alchemy vs. magic carrying throughout the quest. And I finally got the reputation I wanted! + The notes were a nice addition to the quest, even though there were too many of them and they were often too long and obscure to really make sense. + The loot matched the difficulty of the battles. - I feel there were too many battles and locations for the scope of the story. - The battles started to feel repetitive because all we fought was golems - an endless stream of golems, most of which had the same annoying abilities. - That original grid battle... I don't know how you expected us to survive those ranged enemies that could OHKO us long before we could even reach them? Even though Doc hosted a successful quest with that type of battle mechanic, doesn't mean it can be so easily adapted to any other quest as well. - The story had some confusing plotholes. How could we (as golems) talk to the remaining survivors through the airvents, but not when we met them? Until suddenly we could talk to the mayor, after all? And how come even the children in the village packed a mean punch, if they weren't golems after all? - I don't mind rail-roading, but we really didn't have any meaningful choices to make until the ending. No interactable NPCs hurt the quest as well. But yeah, the quest was what it was, and now it is over. It wasn't the most enjoyable, but it wasn't beyond redemption either. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh?
  23. Lilly frowned at Althior. She did not like being blamed. "You're scaring me. Can't we just move on up the stairs?"
  24. QM Note: My apologies, you're right of course. Results of Round Four of the Vampiress Battle: >Bobby vs. Vampire Wannabe - Critical Hit (Wannabe: 9 health-(25/2=13 dmg)=0 health) >Darksten uses Potion on Donna Winter - (Donna: -10 dmg, knocked out) Bobby and Darksten swiftly end the battle when Bobby's whip snaps the wannabe unconscious and Darksten's potion makes the vampire go poof. The unlucky Leofwein is left lying on the ground. THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS! Darksten gains half of a level while Bobby gains a full level! The enemies drop the following items: 14 gold Amethyst (Enables darkness-elemental spells; gem) Murder on the Dancefloor (Has 1/6 chance of instantly knocking out each opponent (unless immune to sudden death) when sung; costs 30 ether per round; Battle Song) Vampire Cape (Halves damage from undead enemies; backwear) Smoke Bomb (Allows the party to escape the battle.)
