The main principle is that the target of the PvP attack does not fight back, at least if the question is about confused or hexed effects. This game wasn't designed for all-out PvP battles, so I can't really answer for that...

I'm not sure if they have any real-world differences, since swords have always come in various shapes and sizes, but in my thinking longswords are leaner and lighter, while greatswords are broader and heavier - sometimes even ridiculously large, like this one from Quest#75:

Yes, I agree that taking the recent changes into account, Miracle should heal as many party members as there is ether remaining. Also remember that party members with full health do not consume ether with Miracle, Arc Heal and other AoE healing skills. The scroll descriptions have already been updated. Here's the full list of scrolls from the wiki, and they all have a 50/50 chance of success.

Thanks, guys! Let me tell you that it hasn't been easy keeping track of everything that's going on in the quest, but it seems that this type of campaign-style quests work well in the context of this game, much more so than dungeon crawler-styled ones. Story and pacing may suffer in campaign-style, but you get a much deeper connection with the environment and the NPCs when it's not just walking from A to B to C.
