  1. I actually have been looking for something like that, thanks!
  2. You are all in the upper years (explanation for this coming in Day One), but your specific year group will not be determined. You can choose yourself, I guess.
  3. Just wait for Day One to begin.
  4. Welcome to the Hog's Head pub in Hogsmeade, where you can sit down, relax get a nice cup of Butterbeer and discuss the Hogwarts Mafia game with your fellow players and other guests. Players should also confirm their participation to this game here. Here are the rules of Hogwarts Mafia: 1. There are two opposing sides in this game, the Death’s Hallowed and the Innocent. The Death’s Hallowed win when they outnumber the others. The Innocent win when they’ve vanquished all of the Death’s Hallowed. 2. Each day, the players will vote out one amongst them with a majority decision. To vote or to draw back your vote, you must use the following sentence in your post: vote: character/player or unvote: character/player. If you want to change your vote, you must first unvote before the second vote is calculated. 3. During days, there is a 24 hour period before anyone can vote. Once the majority decision is reached, you cannot unvote the player in question anymore. 4. Every player will get a short list of items, spells and skills at their disposal. These can be used only at nights. 5. Each night, the players can use one of their items, spells, OR skills by sending the host a PM about it. Some items and skills have an automatic effect, which will be handled by the host. Items can be handed over to another player, but that will cost the giver the night’s action. 6. To give someone else your item, send the host a PM stating the item you wish to give, the name of the player you wish to give it to, and whether you want to remain anonymous or not. Items cannot be exchanged without the host acting as an intermediary. 7. The night abilities have a pre-specified order of effect. If you don’t send your night ability by the time limit I’ve given each day, you will miss your chance to use it. 8. The Day-topics are meant for active players only, so do not post in them if you are already out of the game. The Discussion-topic is open to everybody. 9. Do not edit your posts, because it is considered unfair to other players. 10. Do not directly quote anything I’ve sent to you via PM. Use your own words, please. 11. All out-of-character discussion must be kept in the Discussion-topic. Likewise, all talk about game tactics and roles must be kept in the Day-topics and PMs. 12. Since this game deviates quite a lot from other Mafia-games, please ask any questions or doubts you might have directly from me, and you will be answered. If you are a player, please read the above list thoroughly, even if you are a veteran of Mafia-games. Here are the list of players and the characters they are playing: Hogwarts Faculty: Brigelda Hearth, nurse (WhiteFang) Crudo Alakhazam, teacher of Charms (Big Cam) Eloquence Malleus, teacher of Transfigurations (Shadows) Jingle the House-elf (Dragonator) Neville Longbottom, teacher of Herbology and Head of Gryffindor House (professor flitwick) Oraman Furbad, caretaker (JimButcher) Rhubarb Uxley, teacher of Care of Magical Creatures and Head of Hufflepuff House (Escape the Fate) Sicilia Bathory, teacher of Potions and Head of Ravenclaw House (Eskallon) Stephanie Kingston, librarian (Zepher) Tea Ching, teacher of Divination (Striker iamded) Hogwarts Students: Angela Weasley, Gryffindor (Burman) Brandon Townsend, Hufflepuff (Oky Wan Kenobi) Desiree Jackson, Gryffindor (badboytje88) Francis Rowan, Ravenclaw (ADHO15) Harriet Pewter, Slytherin (YG-49) Jolie Jadis, Slytherin (Lord Arjay) Loki Malfoy, Slytherin (ILikePi) Nene Grandstaff, Hufflepuff (Millacol88) Prion the Centaur, Hufflepuff (Forresto) Rocky Broomwell, Gryffindor (sok117 hewkii9) Sheila Bones, Ravenclaw (Matn) Todd "Bulltoad" Bulstrode, Slytherin (Roncanator) Valerie MacArthur, Ravenclaw (Inconspicuous) Xander Lovegood, Gryffindor (CallMePie) Please note that all these characters were created months ago and that they were randomly assigned (by drawing lots) to the players, so any possible similarities between the players and their characters are purely coincidental. Day One of Hogwarts Mafia will be posted as soon as all the players have confirmed their participation to this game, but on July 1st at the latest. If I don't hear from you by then, you will be replaced by one of the reserves. All players will be getting their PM with details about their character very soon. But now, please discuss the game!
  5. I know, sorry, but you deserved to be in the game so I had to move you to the other group (you were probably among the least experienced in the veteran group). Glad you can swallow your pride and be happy to be in the game. I'll start sending those PMs soon, I just have to recover from this jetlag first.
  6. I'm ba-ack! Having just unpacked our luggage filled with Chocolate Frogs, Every Flavor Beans and Pumpkin Juice (and of course, loads of LEGO hoarded from Orlando's LEGO Store), it was the perfect time to go through all your applications and choose the players for Hogwarts Mafia. The sign-ups are now officially closed, and the players and the reserves have been selected. I'd like to tell you about the questions you had to answer. The first question about Mafia-experience helped me divide you into two groups: the veterans and the novices. There were 10 spots open for veteran players and 14 spots for novices, but that's not all. The group you are in also determines whether you'll be playing a member of the faculty (for veterans), or a student in Hogwarts (for novices). Cool, huh? The second question was of course to see how enthusiastic and knowledged you are about the Harry Potter -franchise, and your answers to this question really helped me pick out the most motivated players. So, here's the list of players. In a matter of a day or two, each of you will get a private message detailing your character, and after that you should confirm your participation to the Hogwarts Mafia in the discussion topic that's also opened soon. The veterans (playing the faculty): Big Cam Dragonator Escape The Fate Eskallon JimButcher professor Flitwick Shadows Striker WhiteFang Zepher The novices (playing the students): ADHO15 badboytje88 Burman CallMePie Forresto Inconspicuous ILikePi Lord Arjay Matn Millacol88 Oky Wan Kenobi Roncanator sok117 YG-49 The reserves (you will be notified if you make it to the game): For the veterans: 1. iamded 2. def 3. Quarryman For the novices: 1. hewkii9 2. The crazy one 3. Fugazi 4. cralegoboy 5. jamtf 6. Alex the Great I tried to be as fair and square as possible with this selecting process, so I hope nobody's mad at me. Well, for the 24 chosen players, you're in for a Mafia-game like you've never seen before! Stay tuned for your PMs and the discussion topic. "Day One" of Hogwarts Mafia will start in the 1st of July, if everybody confirms their participation on time. The magic... is happening!
  7. I got this set from Florida's LEGO store during this vacation of mine, as I didn't have any of the three figs previously. The new "teacher" minifig is great, I just wish they would've used the new female head instead of the older one.
  8. Greetings from the sunny/rainy Orlando, Florida! Just checked in to say that there's still a week left for the sign-ups, so please be patient. Once the game starts, it won't stop till it's over. Finally got to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter today, by the way, since the lines were much shorter than on Friday, the Grand Opening day (people lined up for seven hours just to get inside the park then). It was absolutely amazing, and anybody who loves Harry Potter simply must experience it! See you in a week, guys!
  9. The round Harry Potter staircases look very nice, but also take up a lot of space. I built a wizard's tower for the EB Community Castle Build in 2008, in which I used the staircase - and it took up literally the entire "shaft" of the tower. Just see for yourself. The only advice I can tell you is to experiment. Good luck with your project, it sounds like a lot of fun!
  10. Could you please provide an example of this "hawk visor"? I'm not familiar with the term at all. Do you mean the common visored helmet? Because that's still around in Kingdoms as well...
  11. I don't think there's a direct relation between the success of the movie and the success of the LEGO sets. I'd say the sets will do quite well since they're so brilliant.
  12. All will be revealed in two weeks.
  13. Heh, finally found this topic here. I've been following the news of Black & White, hoping that the series will finally be revolutionized. I've got Sapphire and I played some of Red with my cousin when I was younger, but I refuse to buy the same thing over and over again, no matter how good the games are. Digimon did it first, though. I think it's good that Pokémon expand beyond the "kinda like normal animals but not quite"-design they've had for a good while. Remember the first batch where we had floating magnets and bunches of eggs and mimes? Is a gear monster somehow weirder than those? Since when have Pokémon ever been "monster-like" instead of cutesy? Not to mock, but none of them are the least bit terrifying or intimidating. Digimon, on the other hand... Yeah, I was a huge Digimon-fan when I was younger, but Pokémon are fun too.
  14. If these sign-ups would be first come first served, all the 24 spots would be taken right about now. I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm still honored and thankful to all of you who signed up. I also want to emphasize that the sign-ups will stay open for exactly two weeks, so there's no need to hurry. Think about your answers - and especially think about why I asked those specific two questions - and you'll improve your chances in getting into the game. I encourage people to continue to sign-up and write quality answers like so many have done already. Thanks for your interest, guys!
  15. You know what? I totally forgot the Troll Warship even though I own it myself.
  16. Well, the skeletons got a ghost ship of sorts in 2007, and there was a small ship with dragon wings as sails in Knights' Kingdom, but aside from those, ships have been very sparse in the Castle theme. With the Pirates-theme done for, getting ships for Kingdoms is not out of the question. I wouldn't hold my breath, though.
  17. Twenty years after the Dark Wizard Voldemort was vanquished for good in the Battle of Hogwarts, the school was attacked again - this time, from the inside. ~'*'~'*'~'*'~'*'~'*'~'*'~'*'~'*'~ Welcome to the sign-ups of the upcoming Hogwarts Mafia game hosted by me, Sandy, here in Eurobricks' games forum. This mafia-game is like no other held here, so the players will have to adjust to a whole new mindset when playing. But it's still a mafia-game at it's core, as players kill and vote out each other until there's only the winning side left. A proper introduction and the rules will be posted once the sign-ups are over. This is because I want to keep you in sadistic suspense for a little while longer... There are 24 player spots open for Hogwarts Mafia, and the sign-ups will be open for exactly two weeks starting today, because I'm going abroad. The game itself will commence at the start of July. By then, we'll know who's playing. To sign-up for this game, you will have to answer two simple questions in as many words as you like. Your answers will help me select a versatile and motivated group of players for this game. I will also need some reserves in case of drop-outs, but I truly hope that you will only sign-up if you have time to play from July onwards. So, please answer these questions in order to apply: 1) What is your experience with mafia games, here and elsewhere? 2) What is your relationship with the Harry Potter -franchise? It's probably needless to say, but if you don't know who's Harry Potter or what Hogwarts is, please do not even think about signing up. For the rest of you, please sign up to the zaniest, most complex mafia-game EB has ever seen. Thank you! PS. I will gladly answer any and all questions you might have about this signing-up process for the next couple of days, but as I said, I'm going away for nearly two weeks next Tuesday, so my time online will be very limited during that time.
  18. I really liked this episode, even though the whole "friends to lovers"-sideplot was horribly clichéd and predictable. The best bits were of course the Doctor trying to act like a human (even though it's odd that he was behaving so much like an alien despite having visited Earth for decades). And only Matt Smith could go to that level of zany, I don't think the previous two Doctors could've achieved that. The "bloke upstairs" was super creepy as well, luring people there by using their "humane weakness" against them. I was pleasantly surprised that it The cat was supercute as well! I kinda felt sorry for Amy, all she had to do in this episode was to wobble and hold onto her dear life. The end shot was sweet, though. Of course, this episode was just the calm before storm, as it seems that the season's two-parter finale is epic beyond belief. I mean, .
  19. I bought this set a few weeks ago, and apart from the light pinkish tint on the barding, I had none of the problems you mentioned (or at least I didn't notice any of them). Sorry that your copy of the magnificent princess was so badly misprinted.
  20. This is what TLG gets for going to the more realistic direction with prints and such. It's called the "uncanny valley", when people are more bothered by things that look almost realistic, but not quite, than things that are outright unrealistic. See, you're not bothered by the fact that the horse's feet don't ever move, and that it can only turn it's head up and down, but it bothers you because the print is missing on top (the bardings and other printed horses have never had printing on top either). My point I guess is that this is an interesting phenomenon: the more realistic and detailed prints TLG makes, the more people are complaining about the imperfections. I agree with you on the black brick, it does look silly, but I believe sand blue is a more expensive color to produce because it's so rare, so the production price of the set would've gone up too much just because of few bricks used in this one set.
  21. Oh my, thank you Fugazi! I don't know what caused you to be so kind (did you already have all the collectable minifigs?), but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. And of course thanks to all of you who voted my entry. With so many great entries I didn't think I would do so well, but I'm glad I was proven wrong. Cheers!
  22. Well, the grammatically correct meaning is Studs Not On Top. But I just wanted to add that SNOT should not be confused with tiles, which are basically just studless pieces. SNOT is when you use a brick or other piece sideways or upside down. As for your lava-problem, Dwarfinator, remember that contrast is your friend when making fire and lava and burning things. Use all warm colors from dark red to yellow, even adding white to the "hottest" places. That's how I'd do it, at least.
  23. Thanks for the pics! I was surprised about the difference in size as well, but I can see that the new castle has clearly sacrificed size in place of details. Even though the piece count isn't that different between the two sets, the new castle has much smaller pieces in average than the King's Castle Siege. On the other side, aside from the roofs and the shields, the two castles have quite a similar colorscheme, so you can easily merge the two into one huge castle if you want to.
  24. I bought the Wizard impulse with this set last week, and I also "decorated" the interior like you did - I only placed the items in a different way. I put the chest with the rat to the small "room" on the left, the barrel with the weapons to the second floor on the right, and the wizard's table and scroll to the alcove on the right. I have to say that even though this set could be much better in terms of design, it offers many great new pieces and minifigs that make it a worthwhile set to buy - even if you do not put it on display.
  25. Well, you don't have to be a fan of the HP-franchise (or a girl either) to appreciate the magnificence of the Harry Potter LEGO sets. As you said, they offer a whole lot of pieces, prints and especially minifig parts that you can't get anywhere else. The downside of collecting HP-sets is that you get dozens upon dozens of Harry's heads and hairpieces, but I think that can be lived with.
