Those are the same reasons why I did not ask Myrddyn to change his name. Darth Nihilus's character was originally going to be called "Eric" as well, and that was changed by my request. Of course I hope that all new players check through the heroes' gallery first to see if the name they are thinking for their character has already been taken, but as long as most people stick to original, fantasy-themed names, there should be no worries about mixing up two characters.

Please read what you quoted. There's your answer.

In this case, since Lord of the Fries has not posted at all despite being online, and the game has only started, I think I will replace him if he doesn't show up. The day will end once someone is convicted, so there might not be much time for him left.

Mafia School: A Bedtime Story - Day One
Sandy replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
It was past lunchtime, and after the residents of the Fairy Tale Castle had gobbled down the last bits of their former porcine neighbor, they returned to the ballroom to cast their first votes. At the end of the day, one of them would be sent into the Looking-Glass from where there was no coming back. They just had to make sure the banished one would turn out to be a villain. As the most enthusiastic ones have noted, the voting has begun, and will last a maximum of 48 hours. Voting must be done in the following format; Vote: Character (Player). Similarly, unvoting is to be done in the format; Unvote: Character (Player). No other format will be accepted. A majority vote is required to lynch a player, meaning that over half of the remaining players must vote for the same player to warrant a lynch. If no one has the majority's votes on them by the end of the time limit, there will be no lynching. Since there are 16 players, it takes 9 votes to form a majority. -
Mafia is not a pure roleplaying game, so the line between in-character and out-of-character is elusive. I would prefer that during the Day topics you address each others by your rolenames and pretend to be in a fairy tale castle rather than posting on a message board, but beyond that it's everyone's own choice how deeply they play their character. On another matter, I want to urge JaseTJ and Lord of the Fries to open their game and post something to the Day-topic. Only about 12 hours has passed, I know, but you already have a lot of catching up to do.

Thanks for the picture, Endgame, now I can finally add your character to the Gallery.

But it's called a hosting duty for a reason. As a QM you have the duty to manage the quest and direct the players. It takes a huge chunk of time and effort (I know that probably better than anyone else here), but I think it's also rewarding to see the players enjoy themselves on your adventure. Anyway, in the end your quest was successful, UMDM, and that's all that matters. Thanks for your contribution!

All players are required to post at least once in each Day-topic, so any absences that do not affect that are allowed. If you fail to make the required one post, you will be removed from the game. Now is everyone's chance to make that post, since Day One is up. If you have any doubt about what to do next, please send a PM my way.

"EEEEK!!!" The scream pierced the somber morning in the Fairy Tale Castle. The residents gathered around the corpse of a slain pig. "Oh no, that's the Pig Who Built His House Out Of Bricks!" someone exclaimed. "He was the last of the three little pigs, too..." another muttered. "How horrible..." "This is outrageous!" "Am I next?" Restlessness grew among the crowd. "But look on the bright side: at least we'll eat well today." Once upon a time the Fairy Tale Castle was a sanctuary to all fairy tale characters whose lives had taken a turn for the worse. There was room for everyone, and everyone's privacy was respected. But all that came to an end when residents started to turn up dead every morning. One by one the number of people dwindled, and the peace of the castle was broken. But now the surviving residents had had enough: the murderer must be caught by any means necessary, or soon there would be no innocent soul left. There was one particular artefact within the castle that could solve their problem: the enchanted Looking-Glass hanging on the wall of the ballroom. The Looking-Glass was a one-way gate to the Mirror World, but it also has the power to reveal the truth about anyone who enters through it. The desperate residents decided to banish one among them into the Mirror World each day until the culprit was found. The banished person could never return even if they were innocent, so the choice could not be taken lightly. It was decided that a majority vote was needed for anyone to get banished. "But let's not make any important decisions on an empty stomach", someone noted. It was agreed that the voting would commence after lunch. Thus the crowd dispersed, everyone eyeing at each other suspiciously. Who would they vote for first? At this point, Nico wakes up. "Gosh, what a nightmare!" the boy gasped as he got up. His big brother's bedtime story had crept into his sleep. Nico couldn't wait to tell Gio all about the strange dream. But his big brother just laughed at him. "Haha, you promised you wouldn't be scared of my story. No more scary stuff for you, kid!" "Oh no, you've got to continue the story tonight! Please please pleeeeease!" Nico begged. "Awright, we'll see..." When Nico left for school, he pondered how the fairy tale folks would end up voting. They mustn't let the bad guys win! They mustn't... PLAYERS: palathadric as Aladdin The_Customizer as the Big Bad Wolf Flipz as Cinderella Darth Nihilus as Goldilocks Piratedave84 as Jack JaseTJ as the Little Mermaid Superficial Username as Mr. Bear Poison Ivy as Pinocchio Jackjonespaw as Prince Charming Dakar A as the Puss-In-Boots RPGer as Rapunzel Lord of the Fries as the Red Riding Hood Chromeknight as the Sleeping Beauty LEGOman273 as Snow White Alex the Great as the White Rabbit Donut as the Wicked Witch RULES: 1. Easy there, guys, the game has not even started yet. But very soon it will, since Day One will be up within the hour.
-
Okay... If that's your attitude towards the hosting duty, you probably should abstain from pitching quests in the future.

~A new quest has been posted on the Quest Board (#29 by JimButcher).~

I'm sorry, guys, but the game will start tomorrow. I just couldn't get everything prepared today, and it's too dark now to shoot any pictures in any case. Just try to stay in your pants for another day, if you can.
-
Thanks for being so fast, guys! That's everyone confirmed except Lord of the Fries, but he already replied to the private message so I assume he wants to play. Day 1 will be up later today.
-
For some reason I could not PM you your character information, and now I have to go to bed, so you'll have to wait for tomorrow for that. Hopefully the issue is solved and you can play. Everyone else should've received their PMs by now, so please confirm if you're going to play or not.

Welcome to enjoy Mafia School: A Bedtime Story! This topic is meant for the sixteen chosen players to confirm their participation as well as discussion about the game, but not for playing the game itself. Leave all that for the game topics, thank you. The first day will begin as soon as everyone has confirmed their participation. Play well and learn well!

The sign-ups are now closed. It looks like we managed to scrape up enough of the less experienced players to fill the spots after all, but a big thanks to everyone who showed interest in this game. I hope you'll follow it through from the sidelines, even though you did not make it in this time. Anyway, the 16 chosen players are as follows: 1. Alex the Great 2. Dakar A 3. Darth Nihilus 4. Donut 5. Chromeknight 6. Flipz 7. JackJonespaw 8. JaseTJ 9. LEGOman273 10. Lord of the Fries 11. palathadric 12. Piratedave84 13. Poison Ivy 14. RPGer 15. Superficial Username 16. The_Customizer All of you will shortly get a private message detailing your character and the role you are going to play in this game. I will also set up the Confirmation & Discussion topic where you must confirm your participation before the game can start. Play well and learn well!

There's about 25 sign-ups right now, of which I should be able to choose the final 16 players. I will however give you guys about 24 hours before the sign-ups close to either add or withdraw your own sign up. Remember that if you sign up and are picked to play, you must have time to check the progress of the game daily. If you're going on a vacation or somewhere without an internet connection for the upcoming month or so, please do not sign up, or withdraw your sign up right now. I can't teach anyone who's not around, after all.

xxlrocker and RPGer, after several incidents with you two I'm seriously doubting if you are mature enough for this game. You are ruining the fun for other players by your sloppy and disruptive posts, and if the complaints about you guys continue, I will have no choice but to ask you to leave this game. As a kindergarten teacher I have the patience of a saint, but even I have my limits. Consider this your final warning.
-
There's not quite enough sign-ups yet to fill the sixteen spots. Even though Mafia School games are primarily meant for people who have not played a Mafia game on this forum yet, others can sign-up as well. Here's the specifics: If you have a Mafia Appreciation Tag, you can consider yourself a veteran of the game and you will not be chosen to this game under any circumstances. If you have only played one or two Mafia games here before, or if it's been a really long time since you last played, you can sign up for this game and most likely be chosen. And anyone who falls in-between these two groups (those of you who have recently played more than two games, for example) can sign up to try their luck.

Alright, if you make it so that the book only summons one spider per battle (that can be resummoned if it dies), and it costs 1 ether per summoning, I'm willing to let Pandora keep the item. But my main gripe with the item really was, like swils said, that your description of the item was lacking, making it seem unbalanced. I want to encourage creativity in this game, but I hope everyone understands that the more different mechanics are stacked on this, the more complex it becomes to manage.
-
I think that's a bit much, but on the other hand it's the player's choice whether to use the item or not. And if you make it so that the ether is only consumed by a successful summoning, it might work. You don't want to nerf the item too much so that it becomes useless, anyway. Damn your complex item for making my brain hurt!
