WOW, I'm very impressed!!! Very well done, thumbs up for the Lord of the Rings! -
Very nice and detailed review! It would love to get this set for a reasonable price... @ Hopey: It should be possible to replace some of the new pneumatic cylinders with the old ones, at least at the front bucket. At the rear bucket I think the space is too narrow to replace all pneumatic cylinders of the new type. I'm sure someone else can give you a more detailed answer.

@ Efferman and all others: What do you think about these two possiblities to replace the original panhard rod to stabilize the axle? Thanks again Efferman for this idea! At the front axle I will use your solution with the pin connector. At the rear axle I tend to use 1x2 liftarms (instead of the pin connector) in combination with the studded parts. Could this work or will be there to much movement of the axle when only one spring compresses? I can't get my hands on lego at the moment, so I had to try it with LDD.

Do you mean these ones? I'm sure they would look great but I also think they are even to large and bulky. Furthermore the smaller part of the tail has no pin connector.

Thanks, Efferman! I saw these photos on your Flickr account sometime ago but I can't get a right view to the details. Did you use the L shaped liftarms besides the servo motor to create some kind of a guide rail so the axle can't move sidewards? Is there a limitation when only one spring of the axle compresses?

Great model! I also would like to see some fangs at the front!

Has someone an idea how to stabilize the axles of the Unimog without using the original panhard rod? I thought about the solution the 9398 uses but I found no suitable fixpoints without major modifications.

You're right, with the parts list you can replace the original part completely. If you won't gather any spare parts you have to dissemble the rear part and check which parts you already own. Then you can order just the missing parts. Maybe someone who already built this modification can publish a list with the missing parts. That's the same case like the twin wheel modification for the 8258 he created.

You can find some comparison pictures on Amazon.de. I'm sure they will help you. (Source: Walker Boh) (Source: Walker Boh) -
Thanks for sharing DLuders! I already presented the trailer in this thread. I just updated a few things on Rebrickable (based on the new LDD 4.3.5) and from this time on my MOC is shown as a new MOC although it exists since some month.

Round fenders, great! Would be great if you can implement round fenders at the rear tandem axle as well.

@ Gene: When looking at your avatar picture it looks like you're using third party tires on your Unimog!? Would you mind to post some additional pictures?

The German TRESTON GmbH offers really great opportunities to store your spare parts: http://www.treston.d..._category2=4409 I have never seen better storage systems referring to quality and size but these boxes are quite expensive. Therefore I only own one of "554 ESD" for the bigger parts. That was the time when I thought one of these storage systems is enough for all my spare parts - silly billy... There are really cheaper providers of such storage systems but in most cases as far as I'm concerned the boxes are to small to store 1x15 liftarms.
-
With those 1x2 liftarms you created realistic shapes, really good! I would try to place the rear liftarms at the cab exactly in the middle to devide the rear window into two small ones as it is in real.

That might could be a problem... Here you can check which panels are available in blue: http://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=P&catString=154 Otherwise you have to replace the non existing blue panels with white ones. In the case of this panel it should be possible to replace it with blue liftarms. I think such details have to be checked with the instructions.

I will do this during the next weeks when I have some time to spend on lego. But would be interesting to know if someone already did it. It seems to me that you don't have to gear down the steering in comparison using a M motor because of the limited movement of 90 degrees in each direction. But I'm not sure, I'm still waiting for the 9398.

Thanks brathendl! Well, I never thought about that but these regulations in your link are quite interesting stuff. I missed to mark the rear of the trailer and the warning marks at the side also don't fit the so called " Normflächen". Maybe I have to buy some more sets of 8110 to get enough stickers... I'm glad I did it right at the rear of the Unimog. Edit: If I change the rear technic panels the trailer should be marked correctly. BTW: Fantatstic idea to apply two gears! The low geared drive train is ideal when using attachments.
