  1. I went ahead with express shipping. It's already been shipped and should be here by 3 PM tomorrow - thanks for the fast turnaround, LEGO!
  2. I hate to say it, but I think it is just a matter of preference. I own at least one of each of the modulars (except Market Street), and I like and dislike aspects of each. For instance, I really like the overall look of the emporium as well as the escalator and chandelier on the inside, but the rest of the interior is rather empty for an "emporium." Based on the pictures, I love the old Hollywood vibe of the Cinema, but the inside is also rather bland and the car is horrible. As to the Town Hall, it's massive, and has a lot of nice little touches, especially on the inside, but I find the exterior design to be a little underwhelming. Personally, I like the Town Hall least of the three. I would go for the emporium or the cinema and of those two, probably the cinema (but that could also just be because I've been wanting a theater for a long time and its new - hence I may be biased before actually seeing and building it). In all honesty, you really can't go wrong. All of the modulars (except MS, in my opinion) have been great builds and have some great pieces if you ever use them to MOC later (I just display them).
  3. On your first point, I agree. Tiling the whole floor would seem like you said "tile," not carpet. I should have been more specific. I would like to tile the areas around the concession stand and carpet areas away from the tickets and concessions (that's how the Tivoli is). I am not sure how to do it yet. My post was more about brainstorming than exact details. About the stairs to the roof, I totally agree. I am glad the designers put them in (consistent with other modulars). I was just adding things that I would do to modify the inside - not necessarily ideas that they should have done. Lastly, it would be great if they gave us alternate movie posters, but I doubt they will. That's where we can just make our own (?).
  4. So, I was looking forward to a different type of theatre (no, not Starlight's). I thought a more small-town USA theatre would have been a nice fit to the line (in fact, I just drove 400 miles yesterday on the East coast and passed several of these). However, I am not disappointed in the least at the direction they took. I really love the outside of this theater. The stars are a nice touch (especially if the are printed). The doors look great, and I really like the sign and roof line. I hate the idea of stickers, but I will just get over that. The limo: it's not great, but I don't buy the sets for vehicles anyway. However, while I love the outside and will definitely be getting this, I think the inside has got to go (I also think, as somebody has pointed out earlier, that the drabe inside kills some of the enthusiasm in the video). I haven't modified a modular yet, but I will with this one. I often go to the Tivoli - the second oldest movie theatre in the US that housed "talking" movies. Based on this iconic theatre, I will probably add carpeting and a chandelier to the first floor as well as flush out the concession stand (might add a bathroom as well). On the second floor, I will probably remove the stairs to the roof, add a small "fake" stage in front of the screen, make the screen bigger, increase the seat number (still wont be stadium as this wasn't a norm then), and modify the projector area. I know a lot of people have talked about the windows, and while I agree that the windows wouldn't be there in a real theatre, they don't bug me as much because I would rather keep the ability to look inward and keep the overall look on the outside. Overall, I am really happy about getting a theatre, and I think this will be a great addition to my street. I just think they dropped the ball on the interior. It is very inferior to many of the earlier buildings (probably all of them except CC and MS - possibly tied with that of the GE).
  5. I haven't commented on a build for a little while, but I had to with this one. Your details are stunning. I love the angles with the boat and the placement of the minifigures. Despite this being a horrific accident, it is beautiful. Nice build. Ver nice build.
  6. So I had to ask at my local Lego store on the East Coast. At first, (after spending a few minutes on the computer) the member said that there was a new modular coming out (duh), but it has not been confirmed. When I mentioned that it is all but confirmed as a theater, he shook his head and said "yea, but not until summer or fall." I hope he was just guessing about the release date, and I hope he is wrong.
  7. It's great to finally get a picture. I absolutely love the modulars (was going to pick up a third Pet Shop today just because my pocket has been itching to spend more on them and we hadn't received news on the new one for a while). However, I am withholding my opinions for now -- too many questions. Thanks for the info!
  8. I could be dead wrong, but I don't think we can really say that there is any pattern yet. In order for a pattern to appear, you have to have, at the very least, one repetitive sequence. We haven't had that yet. We have had corner, normal x2, corner, normal x? (we can't say two yet because we don't know what the next one is). We simply do not have a pattern yet so the pattern can't speak for itself. For all we know, the pattern could be corner, normal x2, corner, normal x3, corner, normal x4, etc. (that would definitely be a pattern) Anyway, not that it is a big deal - I just don't see a pattern yet - only a potential pattern, especially if this next one is a corner. Then again, as a guy with a math degree, maybe I am just looking at this all too literal. I digress. Moving on...
  9. Lyichir, I think you are dead on. A modular style release of a castle wouldn't work for most, if not for all, of the reasons you mentioned. One of the reasons why I like and buy all of the modulars is because I still have a street inbetween new releases. A new release just adds to an already cool looking street (or cool looking building when there weren't many yet). If I had to wait years and invest 100s on a single castle, I would lose interest pretty quick, especially if the castle looked incomplete during those years until all of the sections came out (tower, gate, wall, etc.), and I would probably fall within their key demographic. The only way I can see them doing some kind of modular style castle release is if they had a large castle as an anchor with several smaller, complete building sets as add-ons (something like the MMV buildings, but modular style). Even then, I think the target audience is too small to risk the releases compared to other themes like City.
  10. I have been waiting for a picture. Now that I see one, I think I probably won't go out of my way for it like last year's sets. It's okay, and it goes well with the other winter sets, but I don't see any wow factor.
  11. BrickLink Orders - about 3,500 pieces for a castle scene that I hope to do.
  12. I really I like this. Despite the size, it's not overbearing. The design and colors of the roof keep it from being too heavy. The lines on the building are simple and clean while still having a big impact, and the use of blue is utilized perfectly (not too much or too little). In addition, the recessed walls keep the front from being too plain. I am not sure how the size would fit with other modulars, but if that isn't a goal of yours, who cares then? Very nicely done.
  13. I have a really bad habit of giving into some of the old sets. I got back into Lego about 15 months ago. Since, I have bought the Green Grocer, Cafe Corner, Emerald Night, etc. on BrickLink at 2 to 3 times the original cost. I usually wouldn't recommend it, but those three especially caught my eye. The vast majority of my purchases (minus loose piece orders for free building) are new sets.
  14. Happy Holloween!
  15. They may have thought that the ship would have been safer at sea ...just like how the Navy sent out dozens of ships from the ports in Virginia. It is safer for the ships to be at sea than riding the waves and surges while slamming into the docks and other ships. Maybe they considered the risks and thought that was safer (?). Anyway, no matter the reason and while the loss of the ship is unfortunate, I hope they find (found) the two missing crew members. My heart goes out to them and their families.
  16. That's a rough one to start today. I don't know how they score in your league, but in our league, Cutler only got 1.5 points (he was on the team I was playing!). At halftime, he had -12 points lol.
  17. My Bears pulled out a close one today. It's still a win though, and I will gladly take it.
  18. Something tells me that I shouldn't have placed 4 orders with Lego this month and should have held one over to use to get this set. I am definitely kicking myself since I collect winter sets. Ugh! Can't wait to see a picture. I may just have to by it on the secondary market like I did with the two last year.
  19. Thanks for the review. I would love to get it, but I am still looking for the right excuse. I have no room, and I have no idea what to do with so many cheese wedges. Give me a little while to be creative. I'll figure something out to tell the wife why I need it ...lol.
  20. I have just been transported back to my childhood. Thank you.
  21. I voted no. Even though I am on my portable devices all of the time, I have yet to get on a mobile website for shopping that I have liked. Plus, with my devices making it so easy to enlarge and shrink pages at a whim, etc. I just prefer to have all the options available. I would consider using an app but only if it was well done.
  22. I placed 4 separate orders with Lego.com this month. I have received 2 of those orders so far, and both have included the "brick or treat" card with a Series 7 minifigure bag. Even though I have too many of those, that was pretty nice of them. By the way, kudos for the honesty!
  23. looking forward to doing my first MOC in castle.

  24. Yep, the one with the skeleton rider. I agree; there's something that just really caught my eye with the knight. That assortment was largely based on recommendations from this site (thanks to everyone). I also just picked up a Helms Deep today for parts. I'm thinking I should pick up another one, but after the 3 Lego binges this month, I should give the wallet a rest. Edit: Just used some Lego dollars to add the Kingdoms Chess Set to my mix (if I am going to do a castle scene, might as well go all in and do it right - right?).
