I just started collecting trains recently. Picked up the yellow cargo, red cargo, Emerald Night, and Maersk (x2) recently. This is some really good info as I was scared to get some of the older sets because I didn't know about the compatibility issues. I now have my eyes on the Sante Fe and a few others after reading this thread. Thanks for the info, and nice topic Noahs-Dad.

I am usually not a fan of the mini modulars, but this is really nicely done. I really like the brick in the window and the gutter in the back. As others have already said, this is really nicely detailed, and you really did capture the essence of the haunted house. Nice job.

Looks like my old post got lost. Go Chicago Bears and Illinois Fighting Illini (although they have had a rough decade)! Being from Chicago and having a cousin who played for Notre Dame a long time ago, I'm a quasi-fan of the Fighting Irish as well. Talking about fantasy football, this year has been rough for me. I have finished in the top 4 in roughly a dozen or more leagues going back to '03, but I started 0-8 between my two leagues this year before getting my first win. My wife even has a better record than me, and this is her first year playing ..ugh!

Lego Architecture MOC Great Pyramid of Giza
AncientDayz replied to Hass Kabal's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I already want to build one for my desk! This is really simple but effectively and subpurbly done. It looks like it naturally fits with the line. Nice build! -
I wish I had more than 3 points to give; there really are some good builds. However, in this case, I think simplicity almost says more (or, at least connected with how I felt about the downtime). So, nice job to many, but my points are - 7. Krystel - 1 point 14. Dr_spock_888 - 1 point 22. Etzel - 1 point Thanks everyone for showing us your builds. Like I said, I wish I had more to go around.

I just received the following: Winter Cottage Maersk Train x2 Emerald Night Power Functions & Track

Thanks for the overall pic. Looks good. I changed my Post Office's roof to white so it wouldn't look so out of place.
-
I like the set overall. However, I really don't like the roof. The white on the outside seems like too heavy a snowfall compared to the others, and the inside of the roof looks a little awkward. Yet, I'm still looking forward to putting this together at Christmas with the others. Thanks for the review!

Thank goodness! I have new hope that the official modular will be good (and maybe not yellow)!
-
By the way, here is another example of a theatre like the ones above. This has people going into a theatre, a marquee (although generic), and cars on the street as well as windows between columns and posters in the windows like LegoCityMann seemingly describes.
-
I really don't like the yellow. If that's what they're going with, I actually really might skip my first modular building. I guess I just have to wait to see what Lego actually does.

What's Better? Buying Sets or Individual Pieces?
AncientDayz replied to Brickstarrunner's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wouldn't mind hearing other members' thoughts as well. So far I've built items on the computer and then ordered the pieces individually. I think this way has the potential to save more money (unless you find some tremendous bargains on sets), but I am thinking about changing my approach. There's just something to building and designing with the pieces in hand. I think you get to experiment more and be more creative ...just my thoughts. -
I was about to buy 2 Maersk trains on Monday. I may have to rethink that plan now - I may want two of these instead (what the hay, maybe I can talk the wife into all four).
-
It's pure lime. I was actually hoping for a mixture. Oh well.
-
Great review, I just wish the set was better. I picked it up a while ago, and it has been in a box ever since I opened it the day I picked it up. It's just not all that great (pieces or price). I regret wasting the money on this one.

I forgot about the zombie car offer (I got that when I order the Haunted House on the 1st). That makes more sense now; I can see how some people would rather buy it now rather than waiting. [Come on AncientDayz; put on your thinking cap]

...interesting play by Lego. I'm holding off for seven more days in order to get double VIP points for the purchase. It would be different if they still had free shipping this month, but if I have to pay for shipping either way, I might as well wait a few more days until October.
-
Spot on. This has to look good on your desk. I really like how you incorporated the ropes, and I even like the gold details you put on the bottom - makes it look even better as a ornamental desk piece. Nicely done.

This is a beautiful recreation of the real thing. I think I may have been tempted to replicate the tan a little more by using SNOT, but to be perfectly honest, I like what you did better. It has such a clean finish to it. Really nice - I I love the clean lines. I hope your father enjoys it.

This is absolutely stunning. I love all the texture and how the tower naturally fits into the scene. This is really great! My one suggestion (and this comes from a guy that couldn't do this so don't take this as a negative): I would build up the sides of the creek one or two tiles high with green and brown in order to add some rocks and bubbling water in the creek. The creek area looks a little flat compared to the rest of the beautifully detailed set. Again, that's just a suggestion. Take it for what it's worth. No matter what though, this is an amazing display!

Minifigure marketing; package redesign and other ideas
AncientDayz replied to raiderone's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't think Lego would ever get rid of the blind packaging unless sales dropped horribly (then, they would probably just drop the line altogether). The blind packaging bit works (look at baseball cards, etc.). It's just a few bucks out of pocket for the kids, maybe once in a while at the store. The kid gets a "surprise," but any "disappointment" leads parents to buy another pack until you get that complete set (or the figure the kid wanted). Personally, I haven't had any problems in my area with figures being damaged or over-felt. I could just be lucky. As a collector, I would love to get rid of the blind-packaging to save money, but I think it would definitely hurt Lego's sales. As to a box packaging, that'll just increase price and drive a few more of those extra pocket dollars out of Lego's cashregisters. I don't think there's an answer for collectors that is price/profit-feasible for Lego. This is as good as it will probably be (they probably invested a ton of research into these ideas before the Series 1 release, too). -
Wouldn't a "Like" button improve the forum
AncientDayz replied to Vindicare's topic in Forum Information and Help
I really like this idea (or some form of it). Like another member above eluded, I just feel weird posting in a forum just to say "great." I love leaving feedback when there is a specific detail I like/dislike, but if it's just a nice build and there isn't much more to say, a like button would be perfect (kind of like this post; I didn't say anything new, but the support would still be there for the OP). -
Review: 10228 Haunted House
AncientDayz replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I received mine yesterday and put it together. Today, I put it with my other modulars (have them all except MS), and I was thinking the same thing regarding the size. I still want to modify it to fit, but I am unsure how to do it yet. It is just a matter of time until somebody does (I think). I am curious how they overcome the dimensions (and make it feel like it fits with the line of modulars - something seems to be off as well - too many large smooth pieces? I don't know). -
What's the least important aspect of you of Lego?
AncientDayz replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agreed. I never "play" with them. I usually build what I want and display it. The rest is stored in containers, out of sight. However, unlike you, I definitely played with them as a kid. Some of my fondest memories include the Saturday mornings waking up with Lego stuck all of my body because I ended falling asleep exhausted on my huge pile the night before while building, playing, and watching movies/TV shows.
