  1. First, thanks for the great review! You have me even more excited! Second, I have a question that you may or may not be able to answer. After I build the house the first time, I want to change it into a normal 32 stud modular. My question: based on the pieces given in the set, do you think it would be best to get a second set, or is the piece set such that I should just order all of the required extras from BL? I know it depends on my design, etc. etc., but some sets just lend themself better to adjusting (for instance, if the set was mostly 1x6s, you don't have much control as you would if it were mostly 1x4s or 1x2s. Anyway, I was just wondering your (or anybody's) point of view given your careful look at the set. My first house should be on the doorstep soon - can't wait. Thanks, again.
  2. I had the Business Card Holder and Pencil Holder in my cart and then removed them right before checking out. I don't know why I did that [banging head on door].

  4. 10228 Haunted House V39 850486 Rock Band Set 40076 Zombie Car V46 (free) ...and a few random pieces on BL.
  5. Well, I knew I would give into the set. I just purchased one online (I should have picked up an extra one for pieces). I got free shipping and the free (useless) set they threw in this month. I am going to enjoy the build the first time, but (hopefully by Holloween) I am definitely going to shape this into a modular that will fit into my street (this is where the 2nd set would probably be handy). We'll see if I can get it to look decent next to the other buildings (I have yet to complete an entire modular MOC).
  6. I really like the stonework on the tower and the bottom floors of the side buildings/extensions. It works wonderfully with the upper wooden floors. A very nice build, indeed.
  7. This is absolutely stunning. I absolutely wish I could pick this up in a store and add it to my modulars immediately. It's simple but elaborate at the same time. This has a great form with just the right details. Nice work. Very nice.
  8. I am really sorry if this has been brought up (92 pages is a lot to read): I was having a conversation with somebody just a minute ago, and we were debating what nationality best fits the figure with the pretzel (not that I am trying to stereotype the figure or the country). I am assuming that it can probably cross a few: what are your opinions? Thanks in advance.
  9. I totally agree with the image. I think the cliche house that kids want to mess with / are scared of is the exact reason why this is appealing to me even though it is not a modular. I guess I can keep it separate, but then I feel like I would have to separate another building (ex. town hall) in order to break up my linear street more (it may be odd if that was the only separate building). We'll see. Knowing me, even though I am fighting it right now, I will get it and find a place to fit it. I am a sucker for buildings and big sets. If I get the set, I already like the idea.
  10. That's what we do. We plan one day for a local food stop (ex. in Philly we got cheesesteaks; in Boston, lobster; etc.) and a game, and we plan another day to see the city and go to places she likes. It works well. My wife wasn't into baseball either, but after the fourth or fifth stadium, I taught her how to keep a scorecard. Now she loves the games and the cities. Good luck getting to them!
  11. This is a really great idea. You did a wonderful job. I definitely like the mechanic, butcher, and sleepyhead. Now I only wish I had the time, bricks, and space to do this with all of mine. I can't wait to see what you do with the newer sets. Keep building!
  12. As many have said, the snow details are really nice, but above all, I really, really like your tree - very nice indeed.
  13. Well, I am currently working my way through all of the Major League Baseball stadiums. My wife and I have been trying to go to different cities and see a game at a few different stadiums each summer. We would a) probably cross them off our list a lot faster and b) stay at even nicer hotels on our trips. After that, pay for a psychiatrist to help me understand why I gave up this hobby.
  14. For sets that I have displayed a bit too long, I completely take them apart, but I store the sets in their own ziplock bags and label them. This way if I want to put them together again, all of the pieces are there, but if I want to use them later for a moc, they are already completely taken apart. However, I definitely seperate the minifigures from the sets. Each minifigure gets its own tiny bag and a label (name/set name and set number), and I place all the minifigures in one container. This way I know which ones are in which set if I build it again, but I also have all of my minifigures put together and in one place in case I want to use them elsewhere. Anyway, that's what I do ...just a suggestion.
  15. I would like to expand my street (6 1/2 modulars right now), and I am slowly working on a theater (and I mean slowly). So, as I struggle with this, I was curious: what tips would you veterans give a new custom builder like myself? Even more specifically, should I continue with LDD, or should I grab a lot of loose bricks and design by hand? In addition, what is the best way for a new customizer to acquire bricks for custom builds - buy them with LDD lists, buy quite a few big sets, search for random bulk lots, etc. (while I have roughly 20,000 bricks right now, I don't want to break those sets yet)? What other tips would you give? Thanks in advance (I really enjoy learning from you all). [PS - I am surprised that a topic like this wouldn't be open. If I just demonstrated my rookie status by not using the right search terms while looking for an older, similar topic, I really apologize, and please feel free to move/delete the thread and direct me elsewhere. THANKS.]
  16. Working on a second degree as I assist a professor at my university ...this degree is in mathematics. With some of the hardest (and last four) classes for this degree, my building and designing time is already starting to erode this fall ...ugh!
  17. I am definitely picking up this one to continue the series. I am not a huge fan of the color or larger size, but it will still work. I definitely like the truck. This is the one line of sets that my wife actually likes and actually builds. This is a must for me! I agree. The first thing I did after getting the Post Office was order all white pieces from BL. It looks better with all of the other sets, but I do think that some of the Gazebo's charm is lost with the white. Yea, I am not sure how that thicker roof will look and work with the others. Right now I am not a fan of it. For some reason, the minifigures don't bug me as much with these sets, but those different lamps really bug me! I have to figure out which one I like the most and run with it throughout my town.
  18. So, I found 21 minifigures the other day at TRU. Then, I got 6 more (some football-team building to do) yesterday. Today, I went to TRU, spent 30 minutes searching, and found the last 6 I wanted. I am done with Series 8! Until... Stupid me didn't notice that my wife tied up the six in a shopping bag, and I thought it was garbage. Down they went into the trash compactor. I guess I will spend another 30 minutes and more money on those six again. Would have been cheaper to buy them off eBay at this point ...UGH! At least it wasn't the first group of 21 figures, I guess.
  19. I voted for the football player (one of two votes - ha!), but I know that is my own bias because I love the game. Others are probably better (ex. actor), but I have been waiting for the football player for so long I think I have talked myself into loving it before it even came out - also, the fairy, actor, and bat are the three I have yet to get and see in person. Maybe I will change my mind once I get my hands on the actor.
  20. I am SO torn on this. I am really big on the modulars, and this doesn't quite fit. However, it has a lot of charm, but then if I get it and modify it, I am afraid I will lose a lot of its charm. I am SO on the fence with buying this set.
  21. Well, I was wrong. despite having Series 5, 6, and 7 on the shelves still, my TRU got ONE box this week. I picked up the last 21 figures inside (without feeling them): 1 Football Player 3 DJs 1 Businessman 2 Red Cheerleaders 1 Alien 1 Robot 2 Conquistadors 1 Santa 1 Lederhosen Guy 2 Cowgirls 1 Diver 2 Skiers 3 Pirates They should be getting another truck tomorrow (but the manager hasn't looked at the manifest yet). I will be happy with another businessman, a few more football players, a fairy, and an actor (I could care less about the bat, but maybe I should get one for completion).
  22. Maybe it's because of my layout and I am biased without realizing it, but I really would rather have a normal (not corner) modular again, especially if it is a theatre. I really hope not. I would love to see something more out of the box (even though those are popular requests).
  23. I definitely have my eyes on these for my desk - especially the pencil holder.
  24. Two-Face looks great, I have never modified a minifigure, but this tempts me. Nice job!
  25. I absolutely love this castle. The more I look - the more I enjoy the details. I do have one quick question: are there any arches/supports under the tower that juts away from the building (see picture 3) - I can't tell from the pictures. If not, the weight seems a little off at that point (large masonry overhanging without support). However, I also don't have much experience in the castle arena - maybe they were done like that at times (in such case, I withdraw even my question). Either way, that castle is simply impressive. It would take me weeks and weeks to make a plan (if I even could). I can't believe you built it so quickly without one. Very creative - very nicely done.
