Right?

I mean, what is an explicitly LGBTQ+ figure in a normal Lego set? Could be any of them! several queer characters have appeared as minifigures (Smithers, Patty, Batwoman, Dumbledore ...) in licensed sets. Also real life lesbian Sally Ride in the NASA set. At the same time several characters based on queer actors have also been made (Gandalf, Bard, Master of Laketown, Prof Sprout, JL Flash... ) not an exhaustive list, just an illustration.

Amen, sister 🙌🏼

I hear ya. Thought the same thing about ‘why not one in a wheelchair?’ Then I spiralled into ‘not all disabled people are wheelchair users; what about X Y, Z ..’ ;) ... then I remembered that there’s no reason all of these figures don’t have a disability as it is! I think they have the balance right here. They could have gone with hairless monochrome figures for simplicity, but I think the range of hairpieces is a nice touch. I also think that the ‘correct’ way to include minifigs with disabilities is the way they *are* doing it, randomly across a range of sets. might still put the red wheelchair to use though ;)

Imagine losing your s*** over a 1x1 stylised rainbow flag though? 🤪

And for anyone not paying attention, Lego has made great strides to improve the representative balance in its figures and sets in recent years, including * gender - more and more ‘standard’ sets have balanced male/female coded figures. Standard CMFs are also pretty balanced now * ability - wheelchair users, minifig with hearing aid, minifig with assistance dog... * ethnicity - much better mix and balance of figures in licensed sets recently, with themes like Jurassic World, Superheroes & WW featuring more key and background minifig of colour. Representation matters.

Smithers. Patty Bouvier. Dumbledore. Batwoman. Valkyrie. Black Cat. Sally Ride. Let alone figures based on Ian McKellen, Jim Parsons, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Miriam Margolyes, Ezra Miller, Fiona Shaw... Special mention to Bert & Ernie, Dorothy & her friends, and Rainbow Bear.

If nothing else, this new set is sorting out a lot of megablocks for me So much tsunami of pandering 😱
-
If nothing else, this might cause a few people to think about when they say things and how they say them. *who

*sighs in gay*
-
Ssssshhhh - they’re not supposed to know we have gay credentials.
-
Great. Representation matters.
-
Yeah. That’s not your decision though ... so you don’t really get to say X is only fine if Y happens ...
-
‘Pandering’ doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

Existence is political for some of us.

Indeed. An odd wee treat - wonder where that will show up Seems like that’s at least a colour easy to get all the parts for!

It doesn’t sound like an odd concept at all. It’s a set embracing Pride and Diversity - hence the rainbow 🌈 and the 11 different coloured monochrome figures representing the 11 colours on the progressive Pride flag (which is a combination of this 🏳️🌈(standard six-colour Pride flag) , the transgender Pride flag (pink, white and light blue) and also features black 🖤and brown🤎 for racial diversity. I, for one, am ecstatically surprised and delighted by this, and I’m sure many other LGBTI+ Lego fans and fans-to-be will be too.

This is bewildering.

Maybe it’s just a series where every figure comes with a sheep 🤣

I mean, I *would* expect a tiger to show up again sometime - seems a no brainer since they have the mould. That said, I think they will choose a different colour like dark orange maybe. I dunno, as you know, Lego animals can be a long time a-coming. Maybe best to look out for a decent deal on eBay or bricklink? -
Yep, it’s the Nagini mould, but the colouring and print on the new one is very accurate to an African Rock Python. Totally love that level of detail.

Sorry, I was too busy going on to the other gazillion threads of things I don’t normally engage with to say how I think everything is rubbish and wrong. Did I miss something? -
