That's brilliant. And with the price of GBC-standard balls these days, it's quite apt that Scrooge McDuck has a vault full of them.

Mature Themes We'd Like to See (discussion, rumour, wishful thinking)
MAB replied to legoSDR's topic in LEGO Licensed
Many modern warfare models, kits, toys, etc are sold in toy stores. I doubt that kid cares much about the branding. Is a LEGO Hawker Harrier any worse than an Airfix Hawker Harrier? -
If you use Bricklink to confirm set inventories...
MAB replied to 62Bricks's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yah, I do not understand that change at all. I don't see what the problem was keeping these pieces as extras. Just because they were originally on a sprue with another pat that was used in the set, they are now classed as being a required part of the set even though they are not used. -
Where should the next People at the ____ take place?

Fun at the slaughterhouse. We'd get animals and some interesting minifigure parts, as well as nice bits for butchers' shops. -
The old yellowed Lego returns to shine
MAB replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It is possible to open up a 40 year old sealed set and still get yellowed parts. I believe that heat is more important than light for yellowing. -
That is a really effective way of doing the rice paddies. The torso - is that the one from the goblin, with the green skin? If so, that's a nice way of covering up the green bit!

I can understand the original being popular to see, the form itself is something you'd normally associate with "art" (whatever that is) but made from a kids building block. But after a few sculptures, they get a bit same-y. But the mini one, it doesn't really look like the original in the sense that it has lost its detail. More importantly, it has lost its originality. You have to know what the original is to appreciate this one. If you don't know what the original is, this looks really crap. It is like printing a low res copy of a painting that you downloaded from the internet on your wall. Plus, how will people feel when they are dropping in that 60th 2x1 yellow brick that LEGO have just charged them 10c for. Worse still, if you want to move it or dust it. At least the others have the option of being decent parts packs if they don't sell.

The old yellowed Lego returns to shine

No it cannot. Each time it gets more brittle and eventually they will crack. -
Maybe they only have one slot. I wonder if it is a real vote or if they have already chosen the winner, as it is a secret ballot so they could announce anything and nobody would be any the wiser.

What is your favorite LEGO-related song?

I'm not a fan of the cheesy pop in most LEGO movies, so I'll go with the soft rock of Chima: Day of Glory -
With a colour change, the Loch Guy is a minifigure version of LEGO's own Brickley ...

Mature Themes We'd Like to See (discussion, rumour, wishful thinking)
MAB replied to legoSDR's topic in LEGO Licensed
It is too late now for the license / film tie in, but The Hunger Games. It could have given us some interesting minifigures, possibly the train and some nice forest vignettes. The movie ratings were 12 (at least in the UK), so sets could have been made aimed at teens while not appearing to be too offensive concerning violence. However, the content was fairly mature - I will not allow my kids to watch them even when they are 12. -

It is nothing new, people have been doing this for years. And unfortunately they will re-yellow again. -

There's got to be a haunted lighthouse.

It is quite funny on BL where some minor changes (even with the same mold / element number) get a's and b's and so on to differentiate them, whereas others with different mold numbers get tied to the same BL part number.

LEGO set itself up for inconsistent minifigure quality.
MAB replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The major market - kids - rarely complain about things like this so it is unlikely that they will increase the price of a set just to please people that want to collect the minifigures as display items. There are also other quality issues (rather than design issues) - prints not matching across torso to legs, print broken across torso to legs (clone brands do better here as they print torso and legs in one go), translucent light colour print on dark parts, no inner leg print, not top of foot print even when sides of feet have been printed, etc. The change to dual molded legs really shows off how bad some old figures look. For example, these printed legs look great from the front: But terrible from behind. Compare them to a similar dual molded part and the rear end just looks stupid. So all mine now wear capes to cover this up. Would kids or people that display in a frame care? Probably not. -

For Planet of the Apes, I'd prefer the original series. The latest movies would be lots of apes with straps across their chests. I'd like to see those damned dirty apes in their uniforms of the original movies. -
What Theme Do You Want to See With Lego's Next Biggest Set.
MAB replied to PBRStreetgang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I cannot see it being a good seller though, not as one of LEGO's biggest sets. GBC are usually really well received at conventions, but I doubt the public really wants a single module or two. And the cost and size of a decent set-up at home is prohibitive for most, so even a theme of lots of modules is likely to be out of the question. Also, I like the fact that GBC are owned by the community, rather than by LEGO. It would be awful if LEGO started to make official sets and changed community standards. -
Although this wouldn't need to stop them doing a set. For example, they could (and can) just do a Space Shuttle set. However, there isn't an "explode" play feature included. But if people really want to play with it exploding, then they can do it easily enough. Similarly, lots of scenes in LOTR are fairly scary for kids, but that didn't make the characters out of bounds for LEGO, they just concentrated on other scenes. But nothing stops someone acting out the scary scenes using LEGO if they want to. If there is a good business case for making a set/theme, then I am sure LEGO can normally find something tasteful to concentrate on, even if there is distasteful material in the IP.

For me, the biggest surprise here is how LEGO do the hair. Will they try to emulate those Kreo sets, with the "real" hair attached permanently to a head, or a "hat" with the hair attached, on to a normal minifigure head, or just go with rubberised molded hair, or molded hair attached to a head, or something else. The also know Kreo has done this license before, so presumably think there is a good market for it, like other ones they have taken up from other manufacturers. MB (and other manufacturers?) have done Spiderman and other SH before LEGO got it (back), Doctor Who by Character Building, etc. Also part of their calculations no doubt take into consideration that if they have the Trolls license, then one of the clone companies will not have it. If someone else had it, then whatever juniors style sets LEGO had out at the time would be in competition with the clone brand's Trolls sets.

Isn't this some minifigures playing a practical joke, using an alien mask on a stick pretending there are aliens for the camera.- 991 replies
