  1. Thanks all! Thanks Kai! I'm afraid I kind of went from one extreme to the other here with the busy-ness of the background, but it did work pretty well both times. Glad you like the lighting - as you know, getting that just right was rather a pain! Thanks man! That arch was something I really wanted to fit in! Thank you! The furnace kept growing to accommodate those racks (which were one of my first ideas when starting the build), but I'm glad I stuck it out Thank you Andrew! Thanks man! And never fear - I just meant that this will be it for family member intros for a while (I've already got like 10 ); now I've got to get the story part rolling and do something with them all! I would have done a light brick except that those don't emit nearly enough light to capture when taking pics outside - instead I just stuck a pretty powerful flashlight behind/under the furnace and had it on while taking the pics. The rest of the lighting is all natural light coming through the front and the opening in the roof Thanks Bas, glad to be able to churn out a few builds here to hopefully get us back on the scoreboard! All LEGO scenes can be somewhat more work-intensive, but they definitely pay off!
  2. Very nice shaping on this, Rogue! - I'll echo the others on the boat hulls; the curves throughout and the round windows really give this a neat and distinctive look Glad to get to meet some more members of the Amancio family too, and I'm going to have to remember that use of upside-down vials as lights!
  3. Sweet little home there, Rogue, love the pre-steampunk vibe going on here! I can't make out what that part in the middle is, but it makes a great frame-work for the dwelling Nice work with the balloon and landing pad too!
  4. And, the last of my family intro builds (for now At least, I don't have any more planned until half of these peeps are gone ). Now to get started on entries for the new challenge! (Picture linked to topic)
  5. Enter the de Fiori forge! Only the finest and strongest of Varlyrian blades come out of these furnaces, crafted by the sword-making master of the family, Cioro de Fiori. Along with his children, Bjarke and Gionna, Cioro makes almost all of the daggers and swords which originally gave birth to the rise and fame of the de Fiori's. The fire: Gionna de Fiori: And one last overview of the scene: Well, I think that wraps up my family member vigs for now! Check out the last of the new characters here. HQ and the forge pic that I was basing this off of inspired me to try some scene lighting here - getting it just right for the pictures was definitely a pain, but I'm quite happy with the results! Also another entry to CCCXVI (or whatever number we're on now ) - most just because it happened to fit the interior category. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!
  6. Thanks all! Thanks Rogue, I had a lot of fun recreating all the weapon holders and racks! There's actually a hole in the table to make room for the neck-bracket on the quiver, but it fit in really well, and pretty much covered it all up perfectly The girl was supposed to be standing (I mean, she's supposed to be just that tall) - I was trying to just round off/polish this basic kind of short skirt a bit, since it always just looked a little too blocky to me. (Sorry SK - you're just the latest person to use that technique that I remember seeing ) Thanks man! I was a little tired of the tans (and do you really suppose I've got that much dark tan anyways?? Though I guess most of it didn't show up in the picture ) - might have been a good idea though, since the white does admittedly stand out a bit there. Thanks anyhow, I was really happy with that pose! Thanks mccoyed! Photography was not the easiest (I think I had like 126 pictures to narrow down afterwards ) - but the most complicated thing was honestly trying to avoid excessive glare off the minifigs' faces for the family shots. As I mentioned to Rogue above, kneeling wasn't exactly my intention with the skirt, but I guess it works! Thank you! The grindstone was one of the most complicated details in the build - there are a number of illegal techniques going on right there, I'm afraid! Yep! - I'm looking forward to it!
  7. Hmm... an awful lot of swords going on in the group - we'll see about that! Thanks mate! Now get some more peeps of your own out there for me to get to work with, will you! Thanks man! Do it! (Not referring to the creating time comment, obviously... though if you could do that it'd be nice too )
  8. Lovely! Architecture, roofs, stained glass windows - pretty much everything here is perfect! The trees/grass/bushes (I'm not quite sure given the scale ) give an awesome texture and surrounding as well - fantastic job all around!
  9. Another build from me! And check out the new family members and their descriptions here. (Picture linked to topic)
  10. De Fiori Armory | Garmadon | Varlyrio Susto and Falco de Fiori | Garmadon | Varlyrio De Fiori Forge | Garmadon | Varlyrio Conzaga Family | Varlyrio | Basiliscus Business is What You Make It | Varlyrio | Andrew Spader Fort Defiance | Varlyrio | Andrew Spader
  11. Weapon makers both by trade and inclination, the de Fiori's armory is always sure to be well-stocked and sharp. Although swords are their field of expertise, they do not confine themselves to them entirely, and their armory is packed full with weapons of all descriptions from the de Fiori forges. A closeup: The chandelier: And a last couple of pics: Hey all! Another Varlyrian build from me, this time a full interior scene of the family's armory. Also an entry to CCC's interior category. And since it ended up a lot larger than an 8x8, I went ahead and used the opportunity to introduce quite a number of my Varlyrian characters. Check them all out here! Just have got a couple of them left and I think I'll have all the living family members covered (except one old lady who I only plan on pulling out if everybody else in the whole family dies ) The scene was inspired by this awesome picture, in case anyone was curious Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  12. Very nice job pulling off this crazy color-scheme Kai! You've managed to get some pretty sweet minifig combos in here too (though a couple are just plain outlandish! ), but my favorite detail is probably the use of white rods to fill up the gaps up top - still trying to wrap my head around the math going on right there
  13. Very nice build, Captain! I'll echo the others about getting so many all-LEGO shots out of it Looking forward to seeing where this story goes too! Oh, and where is the uniform on those liveried attendants from? I feel like I recognize it but can't quite remember where I saw it before. They look fabulous here, though!
  14. Lovely vegetation and great concept and execution with the lift, Elos! The overflowing base is excellent too and makes it feel a lot larger
  15. Really nice and convincing little scene, Kwatchi! I was actually expecting the first picture to be followed by a zoomed out picture showing the whole ship The dark red looks great too, and I'm liking your cannons there
  16. Thanks guys! Thanks Kai! I wanted to keep up the use of curved brown elements in my other builds here, and was really glad with how well that worked out for the doorway! As to dangerousness... Thanks man, glad you liked it! I hope to - expect more to be coming soon! Thanks mate! - I hope to have intrigue getting going here before too long Thanks mccoyed! I've had pretty much my whole (still living) family built and sitting on my desk waiting for me to build them vigs for quite a while Looking forward to seeing that!
  17. Thanks Bas! I'm planning on at least a Cat. C - I may get to enter one of the other two as well (Cat. B sounds like it could be quite neat), but I've got such a quantity of things to build for such a quantity of different things that I'm not entirely sure I'll have time for more than one I do hope to finish up my family vigs pretty soon though! Nice, looking forward to it! Not letting the grass grow under your feet, I see!
  18. Finally got that family vig posted - another and larger one to come in a few days here! (Picture linked to topic)
  19. Thanks everybody! A new family vig from me too (I'll edit the short version into the first post to keep things organized, but plan to post at least my smaller vigs in their own posts in this thread). Susto and Falco de Fiori The two sons of Cadgie de Fiori (nephews of Alesio, the current head of the family), Susto and Falco de Fiori, along with their father, are the muscle of the family. While Alesio's side of the family runs the business and intrigue part, and the younger end does most of the actual sword-making, these guys are more likely to be using the point of the swords than forging them. Their characters are about as fiery and volatile as their hair, but Alesio knows well that they can be absolutely depended upon on "family business." Falco, the younger of the two brothers. Check out the family tree to see exactly where they fall in Figless: Hey y'all! It's been too long since I last posted something, but I actually had this on my desk for quite a while while I was finishing up my next and larger build. That one is now just needed to get photographed one of these days, which ought to get done before the end of the month. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  20. Excellent ship mate, gotta love that stern! Great job with the angle of the sides as well, and those rear lanterns are a great touch!
  21. Looks sweet! Great job integrating the paw into the floor - I think I'm out of critiques
  22. Sweet!! I'd been hoping to try to set up something like this for Captain Nordau through an AMRCA sometime, but these rules seem about perfect! Another great addition - thanks again to the court for their tireless work for this game!
  23. An intriguing business you've taken up here, Andrew, and I can't wait to see more of it! The trees look appropriately wild and untamed, as does the general aspect of the build, but I'm not quite sure I'm buying the blue in the terrain. Clever choice of the expressions for the minifigs though And a thumbsup for filling in the unmounted horse's saddle
  24. Ooh - intriguing backstory and developments, Bas, and very nice builds as well! The gondola and dock in the last one are great - love all the texture the tiles in the wall give! - and the wine is cleverly portrayed as well. You've got some very nice wood-work and furniture going on in the second one too (I might have to steal that reclining couch!); I'm trying to figure out whether that rug is a sticker/print or if you've built it - looks great, anyhow! And is that floor dark brown?? The lighting is great as well, except that (my one nitpick) it would have been nice if you had put a backdrop right behind the wall - not the window, obviously - to prevent the light from seeping through. But I absolutely love the light coming through at the top corner of the arches, though I'm not quite sure why I don't quite understand the shrine on the first build, but I'm really glad that you've added that section to the story - looking forward to figuring out more, both about the past and the future here! And great job with all these freebuilds - reminds me that I oughta get back on the ball!
  25. Sweet! Fantastic shaping on that boar-head statue, and the stairs inside are very clever as well What did you use to build the tusks, though? I can't seem to figure that out
