That's what I've decided to do with my latest MOC. All of my previous ideas have been too complicated, even for me at times, and Lego would certainly never make any of them. My F1 Sidecar for instance, started simple and ended up with 3 speed gearbox, brakes and pushrod suspension. It's also rather large. A competition like that sounds like fun though.

Well it's good to know that I have started building something that I don't understand! I've sorted it out now, and the rear wheel turns as well as the lifting of the front wheel, all controlled by the steering wheel. Here's a picture. The 3x3 thin liftarms (pink) pull the grey track rod forwards and backwards causing the rear wheel to turn. Not a great description but I hope you get the idea. Also, thanks Piterx, that wheel and tyre will work a lot better.

I agree with what you're saying. In realty, it would need a motorcycle tyre on the back so allow the vehicle to lean when cornering. When turning, the inside wheel lifts up to cause the vehicle to tilt / lean in the direction you want to go, forcing the vehicle that way. In the photo above, the wheel on the right hand side has been raised, which would cause the vehicle to lean and turn. Another photo where the inside wheel has been lifted to steer the vehicle. The problem is, Lego don't make a rounded tyre the same size as the rear, so my options are... - Use that wheel and not allow the vehicle to function properly. - Position two Wedge Belt Wheels (4185) along side each other, allowing the vehicle to turn properly. Oh, I best upload a photo of the real thing as well.

Recently when searching the web for inspiration I found the Toyota iRoad Concept, and decided I'd give building it a go. The steering was what got me interested in this machine, just because it's a bit different. I've designed a simple chassis for it on LDD which is a long way away from the final design, but before I do anything else, I would like to know if the chassis design would work, however I do not have the sufficient parts so I was wondering if anyone would build it for me, and show it as a built chassis. I've got some pictures of the design and I can upload the LXF file as long as someone can explain how to. Thanks, cgg199

Hotrod
cgg199 replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice design, it's always good to see a hotrod. I'd like to see a bit more information on the gearbox and suspension though, and maybe you could have included them in the video? -

Who needs Power Pullers? It looks great considering I had no idea what it was. I love what you've done with those tyres. -

I have only been alive for half of that length of time, so I found it hard to relate to times with unspecialised parts, however I do understand what you mean by this. Without specialised parts, creations do get over sized and can sometimes be overcomplicated. It adds to the fun! -

Try adding disk brakes to the front wheels once you have got all the suspension geometry correct with camber, caster etc. It's tougher than you think when you start designing. -

The diffs need to be the opposite ways around or because of where the gears are meshing with them. -
