Lego NXT Loom
Front replied to jan295's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very interesting design, very clever. I am all new to Mindstorms NXT, actually got the set unopened after buying it a week or two ago, and am looking foreward to enjoying building robotics. Welcome to EB. -
Thank you for showing pictures of displays and the pictures of EB members. I look foreward to Legoworld in Copenhagen in early 2010, but would really like to go to the Dutch one too some day.

I think it's time to add a few more photos, nothing spectacular though. We are getting close to 2010, and I've get sets hiding away in small boxes, waiting to come out bathing in the spotlights. But for now this thread has to be restricted to 2009 or older sets 49: 8698, Vultraz. 2008, Vehicle set. Vultraz 50: 8693, Chirox & 8949, Kirop. 2008, 1st half, Canister and small set. Chirox, Kirop 51: 8920, Ehlek. 2007, 1st half, Canister set. Ehlek

All four options are fine with me.

I just enjoy AFOL's reviews of sets they haven't built or even seen yet. I guess next year, to avoid being so last year, people will have to share their opinions based on rumoured set numbers and names.

Metallic darth vader and you can make me vote your preferred date. Anyone ?
-
Please only vote if you are planning to attend the meeting in Billund I will definately come, at least to some of the event, but am undecided on which date to vote for. I'm probably ok with all three options.

In a 30 minutes program the Lego company is analysed. This is the first in a series of programs that feature companies that go toward the trend, and actually are doing great in these so called times of crisis. Kriseknuserne on DR2 The analysis done be the journalist is absolutely ridiculous, the same quality could have been achieved by a group of 12 year old kids. But the program is a big commercial for Lego. For the non-Danish viewers, the program has some English-speaking sequences, and features a lot of footage from inside Lego Billund.

I jumped into the thread as the talking was on breaking ball cups. Even if I knew the answers to your questions, it would be highly non-appropiate to answer them. But feel free to ask anytime. Front

I do engineering in the Bionicle core team. Front / Erland

Nice review. I have more or less all Ferrari sets with cars in this size. But this new 2009 set is actually the third set to feature two cars (not only one), here are the two previous (which I have): 8144, Ferrari 248 F1 Team 8672, Ferrari Finish Line
-
I have a very important anouncement: No Ben10 ball cups will break. Not even a single one out of thousands (not taking into account completely wrong moulding parameters, kids putting butter on them and then having their big brother jump on them for hours, etc.).

Nice moc, I've been thinking about doing a moc based on the Vorox head and tan bricks myself. So thank you for some inspiration. I kind of feel that you've made the chest look a bit too bulk, square like. Maybe it would work with a bit more distance to the head, right now there is hardly any neck. The idea about having the co-injected (tan brown) parts running down the back is nice, but they are hard to place smoothly. Front

Lego Racers 2010 are pure win, home runs, bulls eyes. I want some of the bigger sets.

Memory Brick-Lane: Hydronauts Theme
Front replied to ZO6's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thank you ZO6 for showing this theme. I'm not even sure I've seen this theme before your excellent view back on it. I must say that I considered power miners and atlantis colour schemes as strange, now I know what a real strange colour scheme is. But interesting pieces and sets. Front -
I just don't think a western theme will ever work again. It's just too political uncorrect. The biggest set could be named genocide.

I agree 100 % and am in the same situation, with a box waiting. I must say I had no idea that the interior and the wing mechanism woukd be anything as nice as you've just shown. Front

Takadox image is kind of cool yeah, I'm glad you guys like it. This image is the only one that has not been taken recently, it was done back in march 2007, a couple of months after I made contact with the Bionicle world. The technique is still more or less the same, a 25 second exposure and use of flash light in a dark room. But it also includes a shower letting up water on the model. But there is not water on the model all the time, and while there is, the flashlight only streaks fast by several times, lightning up the water very strongly in a short moments. That way you are able to see some of the drops, and still have a clear view of the direction of the water, downwards that is. I still have three Barraki to show, and could do with some more waer splashing. And remember, soon this thread can include 2010 stuff :-) I think what you see is the mirrored leg (well it must be, I'm not that crap at posing toys, lol), he is somehow standing on or in front of a mirror. Don't remember exactly, but back then I played around with mirrors and water while photographing.

The Kongu picture is one exposure, where the character has been moved to different positions. Lights turned away while moving him, to avoid streaks. 46: 8916, Takadox. 2007, 1st half, Canister set. Takadox 47: 8985, Ackar. 2009, 2nd half, Canister set. Ackar 48: 8688, Toa Gali. 2008, 2nd half, Canister set. Toa Gali

Licensed Battle Packs VS. Castle & Pirates ones
Front replied to Oky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I opened a troll battle pack and compared to a random troll. In the light I view them in (artificial), colour appearence was slightly different (sand green), probably way inside tolerances. Shine of head, slight difference, result of mould cavity differences. Brown colour looked very equal. Arm mould is different, the one in the battle pack has cavity no. inside, as all moulds should have. No print on neck in Battle pack troll, but I don't judge quality on useless prints. What about dark red in cafe corner ? Is the colour quality a result of 1st and 2nd edition ? -
Sorry for straying a bit off topic there. I'm not sure how succesfull Ben10 will be, but there surely is some potential for Lego to reach kids that is not their usual consumer. I like to moc with Bionicle parts, and although there is some very cool parts in the 6 Ben10 figures, they sets are not my cup of tea. Most of the parts don't have that many technic or cross axle holes. Bionicle parts usually has a lot of functions (holes etc.) that are never used in any actual set. And the age group dropped a notch, and any Bionicle fan will surely notice some differences when they get their hands on the Ben10 sets. Personally I think the tv series is too violent for Lego. But then again I watched the newest Batman movie, and kind of felt that violence was everywhere in its meanest form.

As I understand it, most of the AFOL I see her on EB, are most concerned about what print minifigure heads have, and how many tiles the can use to completely hide the knobs in their mocs. In that context I don't find it strange that people whish Lego to do bad in 2010.

Licensed Battle Packs VS. Castle & Pirates ones
Front replied to Oky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There is no 1st and 2nd edition of anything. There is good and bad plastic quality, quality regarding colour appearence. I've bought sets where the half of some elements are in nice quality and the other half is of bad quality (gold 2x1 jumper pieces translucency). That does not mean there is 1st edition and 2nd edition sets. It just means that colour accuracy and translucency is not where Lego scores flawless at the moment. -
Piece count to prize ratio is so stupidly irelevant when comparing Lego sets, especially across building systems. Ben 10 is Lego Technic for 5 year old kids. Am I the only one to notice the drop from 6 to 5 years as starting age, compared to Bionicle ?
