No doubt, even one Easterling would have been significantly better than the zero we got. Ideally I would of liked to have seen two or even three in the Black Gate set and no Orcs. That way we could have a small regiment of at least four, or six from buying two BG sets to form a "complete" wall, and buying more beyond that (and selling the bricks and other minifigures besides the Easterlings) would of allowed us to quickly build up a sizable force. Don't get me wrong though, I understand Lego was trying to portray the final battle so they needed an orc or two, it just sucks because the Black Gates are the only place we really see the Easterlings on screen. Sure we know they are at the Battle of Pelennor Fields and other various battles because of the books, but we never actually see them there which makes me worried they might easily be passed up by Lego. I mean where else could they include them besides a battle pack? Including them in the Black Gate set would of made the set cover a few different parts of the movie AND gave us the Easterlings, which personally I think could of been amazing looking minifigs.

I would prefer, if the Mirkwood Elf Army set is real, that it have all generic figures. If Lego MUST include a named figure make it someone generic who could easily look like a common soldier, much like Eomer in the Uruk-hai Battle. I think Thranduil and especially Azog are really distinct looking so I would hope they are in other sets. I hope the Mirkwood Elf Army set has like 2-3 generic elves, a Laketown Guard or two, and then 3 generic orcs or so.

It's a shame Lego didnt put 2 Easterlings in the Black Gate set (and removed one of the Orcs). If they had done this they could of been covering a few Black Gate scenes simultaneously instead of just the end when the battle takes place. It would of also been a perfect time to include some Easterligs since that is really the only time we get a good look at them in the movie. It also would have made the set more appealing to people wanting to buy multiples since Lego was already promoting buying multiples of it anyways for the gate connecting aspect.

I think the Balrog scene would have enough going for it to warrant being made into a set. The Balrog build of course would be unique and really appeal to kids i would imagine. Lego could also add two more Moria Orcs with the cool helm they wear which is pretty distinct and would be brand new. This would help bolster our pathetic Moria Orc numbers. We could also get another Boromir which, while not totally new, might be the only other set we see him in. The only thing that would be really rehashed is yet another Gandalf, but unfortunately he would be pivotal to the set seeing as he is the one dueling the Balrog. Heck, they even would have a great play feature with tipping pillars and break apart stairs and exploding bridge piece in the set. Besides the Balrog I would love to see an Eowyn vs Witch King on Fel Beast set, some big Minas Tirith related set with Denethor, Faramir, and Gothmog, an add on wall piece and army builder similar to the Uruk-hai Army set except with Mordor Orcs and Gondor Soldiers (maybe 2 Gondor Soldiers, Gothmog here instead on brown Warg, and 3 orcs?), a Treebeard set with Merry, Pipping and Grishnak, and lastly a Mumakil possibly with Faramir and his rangers as well as a few Haradrim. That's 6 sets and would pretty much cover all the iconic places and characters we have yet to see be made. Of course there are still a few others I would hope to see such as Sauron, Galadriel, Easterlings, etc. but if we got everything else I listed I could easily do without them (plus some like Galadriel will prolly show up in a Hobbit set eventually).

Well I finally ordered all of the LotR wave 2 sets after waiting what seems like forever for a decent sale. Yoyo currently has 20% off all Lego when you purchase 3 or more sets, plus no taxes and free express shipping. Not quite as good as the 25%+ I was waiting for with Amazon, but still not bad. I picked up: 2x Wizard Battle 2x Council of Elrond 3x Battle at the Black Gates 2x Pirate Ship Ambush Now to wait till double VIP points from Lego and I will order two Towers of Orthanc and finally be all caught up with the LotR Lego sets. Just in time for the next Hobbit wave too!

Ya, before we hope to get a Gondor Soldier as a polybag, it would have to be released in a normal set first. That is unless they do like the Mirkwood Elf poly where they just take existing parts, mix them together and call it a "new" figure. That would be pretty lame though considering the distinct armor and helmets the Gondor soldiers wear, as well as their crest.

True, but we had two or three lists last year and only one was even remotely correct. And even that list was missing most of the sets. The Pirate Ship Ambush was the only one they hit dead on. It had the "Eagle's Nest", which I suppose could have been the Black Gate set, and Frodo and Ringwraith which doesn't even remotely fit any of the sets actually released.

That list doesn't seem very likely to me. A Mirkwood Elf Army set? That seems like it would be better suited for a third wave to coincide with the Battle of the Five Armies in the final film. And two Dol Guldur sets but no Smaug or anything, and the most expensive set is only 70 bucks? Both seem unlikely. There are just too many things that make this list look made up, very little about it makes sense.

Former SAP exec's scheme to get LEGO for cheap
Deathleech replied to Mike S's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Why did he sell the stolen sets on eBay? 30k isn't a lot when this guy was probably making at least 10 times that at his job, especially with all the work he put into it and the risk. At any rate it was Target he did this at and I am sure most employees had no idea the actual price of the Lego sets off hand. He probably just went to the old woman and checked out, though I would think a huge $300 dollar Milennium Falcon only ringing up for 50 bucks might make even the most unaware employees raise an eyebrow. The box alone would make it look like a $100 set minimum. -
That sounds exactly like my stores. I haven't seen a wave 1 LotR set in some time, and when I did it always seemed to be Mines of Moria. I rarely see any Hobbit sets either anymore, usually just a random Warg Attack or Mirkwood Spiders. I think almost all stores have the Riddles for the Ring and Goblin King Battle sets though. Their LotR and Hobbit selection is crap but they have all the Chimera sets taking up half the aisle and an end cap

I haven't checked Wal-Mart, but the local Targets seem hit and miss. One has nothing new and hasn't gotten anything in awhile while another has 1-2 of every set except the council of Elrond. The distribution for this wave seems very spotty at best.

Ya, I would be severely disappointed in Lego if they did not do a Beorn figure. In the books he has a whole chapter devoted to him and a very prominent role in the Battle of the Five Armies at the end of the book. I would guess PJ is adding a ton of his own material to give Beorn even more focus in the story too, much like he did with Radagast. I know Lego can sometimes skip important characters, but even if they didn't make a new mold they could at the very least reuse the existing bear mold and give it a slightly different print job. While not ideal considering Beorn's bear form size, it wouldn't be far off from how much they reduced the eagles.

Yup! It's a little confusing, but Lego has the license through Warner Brothers to create the LotR/Hobbit Lego sets. Anything they make has to be based off things featured in the films, not from the books. If it's not in the movies they can't make it since then they would need the book rights. WB Interactive published the Lego LotR game though and they have the rights to the LotR books so basically anything in the books they could of included in the game, even though it's done in Lego. At least that's how I think it works.

I think Erebor would be more suitable as a TaBA set considering it's where the Battle of Five Armies happens. That, and if Smaug is a huge brick built dragon it might be really hard for Lego to do Erebor justice with a lot of the set just being devoted to building Smaug. The only reason I couldn't see Erebor being a TaBA set is because the action happens more around the outside of the mountain than inside with all the grand halls and such. I really hope Beorn is included in a set eventually. If not this wave, surely they will include him in a Battle of the Five Armies set since he has such a prominent role there. I think a big cool bear mold could really help sell the set to kids. Beorn's house would also make a terrific $70 set similar to Bag End last year. It would look great as a display piece because Lego could actually do the whole house, or at least the entire front. My only concern is Lego didn't make it when the Beorn scenes were in AUJ so that shows they had no intentions of making the set originally back then which is a bit concerning. With that said though, Tom Bombadil is a little different since he wasn't even featured in the movies making it impossible for Lego to make a figure of him even if they wanted to.

I dunno, some parts of the book just seem really vague or silly to me. Gandalf just disappears for several chapters and barely even tells us where he went. All of the dwarves in Thorin's company come off as extremely inept compared to other dwarves we see such as Gimli in LotR. They pretty much are rescued by other characters and Gandalf the entire book. The pacing of the book also seems off where a ton of stuff happens in the first half of the book in quick succession with little detail but then at the end we have a few chapters where the dwarves sit outside Erebor trying to figure out how to get in. I know that's the main part of the story but it just felt like the pacing was off. And without reading the appendices or LotR, the Hobbit by itself just doesn't seem to explain much. I completely agree some of the stuff PJ added could of been done without or done differently though. Azog isn't even in the Hobbit book, he is only referenced in the past, but in the film(s) it appears he is going to have a much more promo any role. Why is that necessary? And why is the Goblin King physically this huge grotesque creature, but he has an extremely flamboyant attitude which is contradictory to how he looks? It's almost like slapstick comedy. These are just a few things I think Jackson could of done differently or handled better.

In the Lego MTV video the rep is asked how many sets will be released and she says 5. She does seems a little unsure through the interview so this may or may not be a definitive answer, but its at least from a somewhat reputable source. Here is the link to the video: http://geek-news.mtv.com/category/lego/

Most likely. I have no idea why or how Lego would of "accidentally" put a prototype Azog in an existing set that uses a Voldemort head and has crudely painted parts. I mean does Lego really have their factory/warehouse anywhere NEAR the design studio where the prototypes would be created? I seriously doubt that. Let alone one just fell into the Warg Attack set...

In all fairness the Hobbit wasn't really full of substance to begin with. I just re-read it last year before AUJ was released and you can tell it's focus was to be more of a children's book. A lot of stuff happens very quickly and in succession without much detail until the end. Heck, other than Thorin most of the dwarves are barely even mentioned specifically beyond their introduction. Of course PJ added a ton of his own stuff and deviated from the main story a lot, some of which could of definitely been done without, but I can understand why he did some of it. As for Thranduil in a DOS set, I would like it, but if we don't get one surely Lego will put him in a Battle of the 5 Armies set. They could also include Beorn in bear form if we don't get a set with him this wave. Of course it could also make an amazing army builder, I could totally imagine some some Laketown Guards, elves, orcs, and another Warg and eagle. Knowing Lego we will probably just get one or two of each though and more Bilbos and Gandalfs *sigh*

Who knows. Everyone assumes the worst and we are only going to get one more wave, or none at all, but wouldn't that be great if this line lasted 5 or even 10 more years? The material is definitely there, it's just a matter of if the sales can support it.

In the designer video they touch on this. The designer says "some of you may be wondering why we wanted to create this model, even though it's only seen in the movies briefly". He then says it's because kids love pirate ships. They apparently wanted a set that appealed to both pirate ship AND LotR fans. While it kind of sucks we got such a minor scene made into a flagship set, if it helps sales and means more new iconic sets later on I am fine with it.

I think Qui Gons hair looks spot on from the top, but Thorins would have been a better fit for the bottom and back. As for the set itself, the figure printing looks amazing but the brick built part leaves something to be desired. Then again it must be based on PJ added footage since no Laketown chase ever happens in the Hobbit book. Hopefully after seeing the movie the set will make more sense. The price is one of the highest for a LotR/Hobbit Lego set at almost 15 cents per piece. I have trouble believing the boat justifies this price because the Attack of the Wargs set had two big molded Wargs and was still $50. Then again maybe last years Hobbit sets were wildly popular so Lego thought they could get away with some higher prices this year like they commonly do on their Star Wars sets. We have had a few LotR/Hobbit sets in the 14-0.16 ppp range with Gandalf Arrives and Weathertop. Lastly I would bet money the Azog figure is only a timed exclusive, or at the very worst a print exclusive. I mean lets look at the facts, it wasn't announced properly like the super hero exclusives much like last years Bilbo wasnt (which was a timed "exclusive"), it has 2 unique, expensive molds Lego will want to reuse and make money off of, AND Azog is a main character that should be made widely available.

I was debating on using spoiler tags, but the part in the book is so minor I decided against it. It's literally mentioned by Gandalf in one or two sentences. It's not exactly a major spoiler in my mind. The movie stuff is all just speculation as Eurolock said.

I would like one for the Balrog model and maybe some extra Moria Orcs (with the cool, unique helm.. probably wishful thinking though), but I agree the inevitable Gandalf it would include would not be welcome in any way. I doubt they would include a Gimli in a Balrog set. I would rather get Gondor themed stuff than a Balrog set, but it would be a shame for Lego to pass up doing such an iconic, epic LotR creature.

Wasn't Thrain locked up in the book, and Gandalf found him right before he died and that's when he was given the key? Though Gandalf mentions Thrain was so out of it he couldn't even remember or tell him his son's (Thorin's) name. What's all this about Gandalf and Thrain fighting? Am I missing something?

Very cool! Reminds me of a cross between Brian Pulido's Purgatori character and the thighs from the female Street Fighter characters, lol...
