Ya, I think 4-5 sets is most likely. I think anymore than 6 for the next Hobbit wave is just wishful thinking.

Exactly! I want to know what's coming ASAP so I can start saving my money and planning my purchases. The first LotR wave and the second were roughly similar in price for the entire waves, but I will be spending WAY more on the first due to the sets that better lend themselves to repeat buys like the Orc Forge and Uruk-hai Army. Plus the history forums have been pretty dead lately. It will be nice to have something new to talk about and stir up some conversation. Sure it will suck seeing the new sets and having to wait so long for them, but the price is worth it.

I believe he mouths it but doesn't actually say anything, as a sort of nod to the fact it is Gwaihir. Treebeard is specifically mentioned multiple times though. I don't see why Lego wouldn't say it is Treebeard if it is indeed suppose to be him. It would only add appeal to the Orthanc set (we get an exclusive Treebeard model instead of a common no named Ent). Naming the eagle as Gwaihir on the other hand wouldn't really add much appeal since I assume most casual fans have no idea who that even is.

I think the upper torso is fine, the legs are just too short and make it look a little out of scale. Other than that great job though!

Ahh, I don't even use those now. I am just so use to just looking at the picture.

The only huge difference, from what I remember, is everything use to come in unmarked bags and now the sets are more organized with numbered bags that have correlating instructions. I wouldn't say this makes things easier so much as less time consuming and frustrating. I dunno about you, but searching 5-10 minutes for one specific little brick in hundreds of pieces wasn't exactly fun for me. Imagine trying to build Orthanc with all those little black pieces and without the pieces being pre-sorted at all! Plus sets seem MUCH larger nowadays than they use to so finding all the pieces to a 2500 piece set would take forever if they weren't divided into numbered bags. Before sets were no where near the size of some we have today.

Building is half the fun for me, so I would rather go slow and enjoy the process longer than rush to finish it.

Very nice! If you don't mind me asking, what was the deal and where did you get the 5 Black Gate sets? I have been checking Amazon almost daily waiting for the inevitable 25% off but haven't seen any good sales on the new wave as of yet. It seems like last year they had a lot more sales by this time.

I agree with andhe, some more details on the roof to hide all the pegs would help a lot I think. Also maybe make the gray roof tan like the others? The gray is kind of glaring in that spot. Here are some great MOCs by other members for some inspiration: http://www.eurobrick...79358&hl=edoras http://www.eurobrick...76877&hl=edoras And here are two of my favorite versions: http://www.eurobrick...69127&hl=edoras http://www.eurobrick...l=+golden +hall

I agree. Thus far the LotR sets seem superior to the Hobbit ones. Keep in mind though, so far we only have had one Hobbit film to draw sets from while we have had three LotR films. Not only that, the Hobbit book was a more child oriented. If we only had The Fellowship of the Ring sets I think the LotR wave might not seem as good either.

Actually that wasn't even entirely legal, was it? I thought the Sun promo was suppose to be one per customer, its just most employees didn't uphold or care about this rule.

Maybe they picked Gandalf so AFOLS aren't as likely to cheat the system and scoop up huge numbers leaving kids and other adults with nothing? I remember reading reports last year how some people were buying 50+ Uruk-hai polybags while other people in the U.K. couldn't even get any since they were all out.

Yes it is, but they cease being the Fellowship at the end of the first film and break off into their own little groups. It seems you are confusing the good vs evil aspect with the forming on the Fellopwship. Read this entry for more clarification. I agree, this is a little off topic though... Pretty cool! It looks like we get a glimpse of Beorn in bear form, some dialogue between Tauriel and Legolas on whether to help the dwarves or not, some extra scenes not in the books (the elves chasing the dwarves as they escape in the barrels), and of course Smaug at the end. I just wish we could of gotten a better glimpse at Smaug, but I am super excited all the same!

The Fellowship pretty much falls apart before the first movie is even finished. Boromir and Gandalf the Grey are dead, Sam and Frodo head off on their own, Pippin and Merry are captured by orcs, and Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn are trying to track them down.

One of the reviews Lego Freaks posted a few days ago. He just mentioned he liked the new box art and image which made me think about them. I have no idea, I was thinking maybe the crown but Minas Tirith could be a likely candidate as well.

I was thinking it was more related to the movie titles. The first film is called The Fellowship of the RING and we got the One Ring on the box art of the first wave. Then for the second wave, we got one of the towers from The Two TOWERS. I do agree Orthanc probably would of made more sense though, since the second movie seems to focus more on Saruman and Orthanc than on Barad-dur. Of course we also get Orthanc that wave (though Orthanc's box art doesn't seem to have any image at the top so I guess technically it's not a part of wave 2?). Maybe it's a stretch, but I just thought it was kind of coincidental both images used so far are from depicting part of the film titles, and they related to the order of the films. Then again the images are pretty iconic so it could be purely coincidental.

In one of the new set reviews, the poster mentioned the new graphic at the top of the box that depicts Barad-dur. Does anyone else see this as yet another sign a third wave is planned? Think about it, the first wave had Sauron's finger and the One ring at the top. The first film centers around the ring specifically and the forming of the Fellowship to get rid of it. The second film is called Two Towers and on the second wave we just so happen to have one of the towers present. Does this mean the box art for the third will have something relating heavily to the Return of the King? Or, am I just looking to much into this? Thoughts?

Lego has released several LotR and Hobbit sets already that aren't big battles, quests, or all that epic. Gandalf Arrives, Riddles for the Ring, and Bag End are just a few examples. These are quaint little scenes that are more about the touching, memorable moments than huge epic battles. Now I don't think we will see a huge $100+ Lothlorien set anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw something smaller within the next wave (if there is a next wave). Lothlorien may not be memorable by name, but I think you are downplaying people's recollection of it. It's portrayed as a very mystic setting in the films and like was said, it's vastly different from all the castles and structures we see in other sets. While it's true boys and men dominate the LotR sales, there are still plenty of women and girls that are interested in other themes besides just Friends.

Review: 79005 Wizard Battle
Deathleech replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I think this is one of the better, if not the best smaller LotR/Hobbit sets released so far. You get a nice action scene between two main characters who are not easily available in other sets. Saruman and Gandalf with hair are only in the $200 Orthanc set (though the Gandalf hair mold could have been something more suitable). This isnt like Gandalf Arrives or especially Riddles for the Ring where you will easily get the minifigs in another set. The play features are also fantastic and actually true to movie. They really help play out the scene as it happens in the movie. There is no random flipping or flick fire missiles here! On top of all of this the price per piece isn't too bad for a small set at just under 12 cents per piece. All in all this seems like a great little set and what Lego SHOULD use the smallest price point for with a set. -
Review: 79008 Pirate Ship Ambush
Deathleech replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I really wish Lego would of made a bigger difference between the Undead King and Undead Soldier head prints. I also wish they would of included more Corsair and Undead and not even bothered depicting the orc scene. I understand why Lego did it with wanting to cover as many scenes as possible with one set, but the ship is barely in the movie anyways so its kind of like whats the point? IMO this set would of been significantly better if it had Aragorn, Legolas, the Undead King, three Undead Soldiers, and three Corsair. Heck, they maybe could of even ditched the catapult and lowered the price a few bucks? While I understand Lego wanting to make a pirate ship to attract more buyers, I have to wonder how many LotR fans they turned off with a set that has such little film time. Dont get me wrong, the set itself looks decent, its just hard to justify $100 bucks for a ship only seen a few minutes in the film. The selling point definetly seems to be the exclusive minifigs which you can easily BL for half the sets total price right now and they will continue to drop rapidly. This set seems to be the one people are skipping over the most. I probably would too if not for my need to get at least one of every set. Of course I would of skipped the Riddles for the Ring set too and a few others if not for it. -
I asked that same question a few pages back. People said they will have them out on shelves with a note you need to sign up for a VIP card in order to purchase it early.

General Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Questions

Actually it looks like she still has the corset on in that picture, she just has a cloak/robe over it. You can see the brown underneath. I too prefer the minifigure version. -
Results from the quarterly survey time April 2013

That's only a tiny part of it. Look at the U.S. population compared to Australia. The U.S. has almost 314 million people. Australia? Not even 23 million. That means the U.S. has 13.5 times as many potential buyers as Australia. So you say lower prices would make you buy more Lego? Would reducing the price by half (roughly the same as U.S prices then) make you buy at least 13 more of every set? I am guessing you would get twice as much, MAYBE three times as much max. You definitely wouldn't be buying 13 times as much as you currently do. That's what it would take theoretically to get the same prices as the U.S. (yes I realize every one of those 314 million people don't buy Lego, but you get the point). States in the U.S. are much more in line and standardized with each other than different European countries, I imagine, so your example isn't terribly accurate. A better example would be getting a medical procedure done in the Texas vs Mexico.. only a border seperates them yet the price difference is astounding (and one could argue so is the quality, but that's another debate altogether). -
The problem with this logic is no lower priced set can meet your standards unless it's a battlepack, or is a set depicting a small scene, location, or creature (Shelob Attacks, Gandalf Arrives, etc.). Unfortunately Lego can't make every set a huge $200+ set and do them all justice, they have to shrink the sets down to hit lower price points for kids and offer something still iconic and cool from the movies. I am sure if Lego made all sets higher priced expensive ones and did everything closer to scale you would get just as many upset fans, if not more, because the price on every set would be too high and unattainable for most people. Don't get me wrong, I completely agree that sets like the Black Gate suck because Lego goes so far as to promote buying at least 2, but then has the set full of characters you would only want 1 of. Fortunately you can buy them on sites like BL without any minifigures, or buy 2 Black Gate sets and sell the extra Gandalf and Aragorn's on BL. You could also BL some random flesh heads and use Aragorn's Gondor outfit as a standard Gondor soldier, or buy some black heads, arms, and a black hood and make the Mouth into a Nazgul. While not ideal these are all options to help deal with the not ideal set make ups..

Well if we list Orthanc as strictly TTT, and Orc Forge as strictly FotR, the numbers look more like this: FotR - 6 sets Gandalf Arrives Wizard Battle Council of Elrond Orc Forge Attack on Weathertop Mines of Moria TTT - 3 sets Uruk-hai Army Helm's Deep Tower of Orthanc RotK - 3 sets Shelob Attacks Black Gates Pirate Ship Ambush And total cost of sets for each film is: FotR - $236 TTT - $360 RotK - $180 Still not to bad really. RotK is only $56 behind FotR, and that could easily be fixed with a big Minas Tirith flagship set in wave 3. Personally I feel like I think you do and would love to get tons of battle packs like Gondor Soldiers, Rohan Soldiers, Mordor Orcs, Moria Orcs, Easterlings, Ithilien Rangers, Haradrim, etc. In fact a Lothlorien set doesn't interest me at all. I much prefer the action scenes where the good and evil forces are clashing, or army builder sets. With that said though, I know there are tons of people who would buy a set like Lothlorien for the parts alone, or because they are big elf fans (though not necessarily LotR fans). I would much rather see this line last a long time, even if it means we get some sets that I myself don't find particularly interesting.
