  1. Ok, I'll bite. Why is that so entertaining for you? HP was expected. Likewise, I don't think anyone here is expecting a new castle theme this year, regardless of Nexo status.
  2. In the spirit of “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone”, I recently went through all of the fantasy sets, and every one that x105 high lighted is one that I had previously considered too over the top and would not warrant a purchase. Now that we’re years away from quality Kingdoms/middle earth sets, I would love it if something like that were on the shelves now. Still not ideal, but worlds better than 2013/Nexo. funny how a little perspective works.
  3. Forget the colors, it was the design that was lame about 2013. We’ve all talked over and over again about the importance of minifigs to a successful castle theme, and that translates to high quality heraldry, which was not good for 2013. I have no desire to revisit every detail of 2013’s failings, but suffice it to say that following the greatness of Kingdoms, 2013 was a huge let down. Of course, as many others have said since then, compared to Nexo, 2013 was great. I know my perspective has shifted that way.
  4. I’ve been living in a constant state of let down for the last 3-4 years.
  5. LOL Yes. Yes that would.
  6. Knights and castles are more popular here than cowboy stuff. And that means a lot coming from me since I'm in Fort Worth, Texas. I live in the cultural epicenter of cowboy culture and I feel confident in saying (guessing) that if there were a western theme sitting on the shelves next to a castle theme, the castle theme would sell better.
  7. I have to respectfully disagree with the notion that American kids are not interested in castles simply because we have so few. It may be because we have so few that they are inherently fascinating. They are all over our media and source of mystery and intrigue. Either of our opinions is essentially anecdotal, but I have always been interested in them and Lego helped build that interest.
  8. Thanks for posting the high res back of the Mustang box. It’s good to finally see the details. The color choices are a little weird on this, and there are definitely some things I’m going to have to mod to fix some issues. Glad this exists, but I have to give it a B- as far as design and color goes. Edit: also the picture of the real car is a 1967 Mustang. Pretty sloppy. There are easily identifiable details that distinguish them.
  9. Great rant, Jagger. Solid points.
  10. I don't mind at all if panels are part of the equation. Just fun builds with good minifig/heraldry prints and I'm good. That said, panel-free builds like the Kingdom's Joust are delightful. If you guys have that set, you know what I mean. I recently built the back half (with some mods) to make it complete for both sides and it was really fun. So maybe it breaks down like this: GOOD: A few modular style with great (fewer/no panels) build techniques. BETTER: Standard castle theme, full of panels but has good figs/heraldry BEST: Regular theme like Kingdoms with 1 or two special sets that include more detailed build techniques
  11. You guys are killing me with the ambiguity. Is that what you think, or what you know based on your own source or that you know more about what Itaria is talking about?
  12. This is really nice. Your wall colors and techniques are pretty unique.
  13. Wait, what does this mean? They know we want it so they’ll work something in as best they can, or they know we want it and too bad, no castle, period?
  14. That's the dream. I've had fun with the mental exercise of building out the next theme, which would be pretty much that. Knights (lions, falcons, griffins, whatever as long as the heraldry art is good like Kingdoms was), Elves (with Forestmen type builds), Dwarves And for bad guys, Orcs/Trolls, Undead, Wolfpack. You can't tell me that wouldn't sell, but I'm sure TLG has plenty of focus group junk that would say that it needs helicopters and tanks and video games and TV shows to be successful.
  15. Hah, it’s not that fleshies are bad. It’s just that specific to CMF, they’re straying too far from what makes CMFs so wonderful to the point that we’re getting niche stuff that appeals to smaller audiences at the expense of the greatness that comes with a regular series.
  16. When I use it, unless specifically referencing specific themes or sets, that's exactly what I mean. Specific aesthetic and design philosophy. For example: Kingdoms certainly qualifies. Though for the sake of clarity, I think I tend to use the term "traditional castle" rather than "classic" because classic can sound like it's only referring to old stuff.
  17. Ugh. My eyes just rolled so hard, it kind of hurt. Dang it Lego, just focus on making little plastic yellow people!
  18. I agree it's unlikely, but not impossible.
  19. As Aanchir said before you, Playmobil isn't really in the construction toy category so maybe there's a chance? I personally doubt it, but stranger things have happened. Playmobil and Lego Porsche's have been on the shelves at the same time.
  20. If history repeats itself, late February in the US at Toys R Us.
  21. I don’t know. HTTYD is really probably the best fit as far as that goes. You make good points about the tone being more realistic in licensed themes, but I’m really more interested in non-licensed. Look at the crownies from Fantasy as a good example. That dark blue and silver is a great look. Darker and more sophisticated than something like 2013, but still fun and yellow. That’s what I’m looking for.
  22. You were right, Jagger. That does make me happy. Hopefully they've had a regular castle theme at least partially developed and ready for production. Fingers crossed. As for How to Train your Dragon, it wouldn't hurt my feelings in a "better than nothing" kind of way, but true Lego castle would be the real win. Imagery for the new Legoland California Castle Hotel seem to be mixing mostly 2013 Castle and Kingdoms references, though older 80's dragon knights and 90's lions heraldry can be seen too. I don't really expect that to hotel to be too plugged into super-current or future themes, but it's an interesting thought.
  23. I don't. :) I just want the cars to look right. That said, I'm an admirer of your work. You have to be the leading Lego transportation mod/MOC guy there is, so I absolutely respect where you're coming from. At the end of the day, centered driver = fail for me.
  24. This is fantastic. I look forward to other techniques.
  25. Great work on this. Looks nice from the outside but the staircase makes it.
